The Dark Beyond: Adventures in Candyland (Prequel)

"Ce garçon va me faire devenir gris," Sabrina laughed lightly at her son's dramatic display of pretending to be offended. She watched Thierry lead the trio off the bus before she double-checked the bus to make sure no one forgot anything, including Thierry.

Sometimes, when her husband was focused or excited to get to a dig site, he was absent-minded about little items like his notebooks, or his briefcase. She sighed softly and shook her head as she picked up a hand-sewn, light pink velvet rabbit with a soft red and white floral pattern in its long, floppy ears. It was affectionately named Chignon-chignon. The mother of three had made it for the youngest daughter when they found out Cosette was going to be a girl. She had made Theo a stuffed blue dinosaur, and Aurelia had a patchworked calico kitten when they were young. She grabbed the stuffed creature, dusted it off, and exited the bus.

Sabrina readjusted the straps of the duffle bags on her shoulders, holding Chignon-chignon in her hands as she followed behind her family. She smiled softly at the sight of all the members of the de Viller family together. It was something she had wished for since Thierry had been promoted.

"Cosette," the mother called when Auri was busy snapping photos while Theo was preoccupied with Thierry. She knelt and smiled gently, getting eye level with her youngest. "You must always double-check your surroundings, mon petit amour. I found Chignon-chignon under a bus seat," she gently corrected with a kiss pressed to the girl's forehead. "I know you would have been upset if you had forgotten her," she patted her daughter's mane of dark curls before she stood up.

Sabrina took Cosette's little hand into her warm grasp and scanned the pyramid. This place had an odd aura to it. She couldn't place why she felt that way exactly. However, she knew Thierry was on pins and needles to get here. "Shall we go find our tents?" Sabrina suggested with a soft smile down at her youngest.
