They primarily wield mana-ballistic hybrids. They fire mana crystal shards as ammunition which draw ambient mana to become more deadly the further the round travels.

Ah, I see. Ballistic gun development is at that period somewhere during the American Civil War and likwise, 1860s to early 1870s.
Inventor, Innovator, Incognito, Inpressive!
Name:
Winston Wicklowe
Age:
42
Race:
Gnome
Personality:
"Winston Wicklowe, curious clockwork constructor and adept alliteration aficionado! You're honored to meet me. So you must be wondering what you're doing standing at the counter of my humble shop. Why, you're reveling in my brilliance, of course! Yes, I may be tucked away in the far corner of Tyberia, between the kabob stall and the closed chain store of Gears "R" Us, but I tell you that unrecognized genius is simply a side-effect of wickedly wonderful-- uhh-- waterbirds?"
The gnomish engineer is plagued with a history mana mishandling, and is thus considered by the community as the eccentric, yet mostly harmless, neighbor who also happens to enjoy building exo-skeletons. Winston is chatty, but is slow to trust anyone that is outside his inner circle (which consists mainly of the kabob vendor and automatons smaller than he is). Once he is accepted, and he has accepted you, then expect a generous discount on his latest Long Leg Lengtheners™.
Backstory:
Hailing from the gnome-centric Eastern city-state of Eidolon, Winston began his life as an engineer's apprentice and imagined no other life path, not from a lack of creativity or spirit of adventure but rather knew he was literally born and raised to do this. His parents, aides to the early tesla constructs, were methodical and particular about the way that their only son was to learn the world around him. In uncharacteristically series of poor child-proofing their home/workshop, Winston would regularly devise ways to unlock the mana crystal storage units and get his stubby gloveless fingers on those shiny rocks. The number of burns on his hands did little to deter the small creature, and in fact may have only emboldened his resolve to pursue a career in mana crystal-based engineering, if not also leave an obvious effect on his mind.
During his apprenticeship in Eidolon, at the age of 23, he was tasked to personally deliver a crate of mechanisms to a small business in Tyberia. At first the gnome refused, recalling that he is not much of a shrewd negotiator, but he was assured by his Master Engineer Worworth that there is a reason for his being sent to the grand city. So with easy travel, and packed only for a week's stay in Tyberia, he set off to deliver the parts. Upon arrival, however, his carriage was impounded for what he was told "indefinitely." There was a short interrogation but Winston was none the wiser of the circumstances, so he was restricted to his hotel room for an extended stay.
A month rolled by receiving no updates but still not allowed to leave, so he got restless and craved the industry. Bound to the city but not specifically to the hotel, he wandered the workshops until he found an exo-skeleton designer; a shop of units that allow anyone to be fitted with a clockwork spine and any set of tools or limbs to enhance their own work or lives. Every week of sending requests to the police turned into months, and eventually fell into new apprenticeship with the exo-skeleton construction so as to "fill in his time for now." Four months after arriving in Tyberia, Winston finally received notice that he can travel back home, but as if by fate he also received a letter from home.
The Master Engineer Worworth was charged for multiple major criminal acts, including treason to Eidolon's technocracy and smuggling top-secret blueprints and parts. Worried that he may be accused of being an accomplice, he discreetly burned the letter and quietly returned to his work at the shop. Over the next two decades, he regained confidence in his new community and stepped up into the old owner's shoes as he retired. Keeping the name of the shop "Loads of Loads", he became the new proprietor and expanded on its premise with more wild creations, some more unstable than the last.
Like any citizen of Tyberia, Winston was less than satisfied with the surrender of his home to the Asgards and started under-the-table engineering efforts that increase the productivity of the revolutionaries. If one is a regular member of the community, they will know the name Wicklowe and his ongoing bizarre creations.
Skills and Abilities:
Accomplished Engineer: Having worked under several masters and different types of engineering, Winston is now locally-renowned in Tyberia. His constructions are of high-quality, if not unusual, niches. Mana crystals power almost every single thing, no matter how minor.
Professional Merchant: Decades of dealing with clients has granted him a keener eye to the needs of his customers, and will only negotiate for lower prices if he believes someone is truly in need.
Journeyman Gunslinger: Winston may be averse to combat, but that doesn't mean he could never use a personal defense weapon. Even when he had never shot a gun before, he ordered a custom-made revolver. Once it came in, he considered changing his mind on the "no fighting" thing and now goes to the range a few times every month.
Journeyman Cook: Cooking food may be as much science as it is an art, but the real intricacies of spices still elude him. Meanwhile, he can make a mean salamander burger.Equipment:
