@Legion02: I did read it, but I don't feel that it's quite what I was looking for. I thought that it just... was, neither good nor bad. Though I did note one thing that stood out: why did you list both Abilities that Fennekin can have? If you intended for it to have two Abilities, I wouldn't have allowed that.
Hopefully, taking control of the receptionist will be fine as is right now.
That's perfectly fine. He's just there to greet the newcomers and direct them to wait until a larger group (read: all the player-characters) has gathered.
The city of Regala was, as would be expected of the capital of the Sengun region, a hive of activity even in the mid-morning. This was the first impression that Alix Pearce gathered as she walked out of the SailFlight building and onto one of the main streets of the city. All around her, people were stopping off at newspaper stands or cafés, catching up before heading to work, or just generally out and about. There were plenty of Pokémon Trainers nearby as well; Alix could pick out species of all types and sizes. One in particular caught her eye, a graceful Karagrin - a Flying-type Pokémon native to Sengun - sailing the skies.
She was almost immediately bumped aside by the many others who had followed her out of the building to go their separate ways. Kicking herself a little for zoning out, she approached a signpost topped with a sculpture of a sleeping Eevee. She studied the signs for a few seconds before finding the one pointing the way to Ilex Laboratories, and set off.
Five minutes later, she rounded a street corner and found the city's central courtyard. Three magnificent buildings took pride of place, lit up by the morning sun. First, the dominating feature of the vista: the Palace of Regala, home to the ruling King Isaac Paros and seat of Sengun government, bedecked with spires and statuary. Second, the skyscraper, Victory Tower, where the best and strongest Trainers gathered to challenge the Pokémon League. And last, the smallest of the trio, Ilex Laboratories. It would have been like any other research lab, were it not for the enormous oak tree growing from the roof. The effect of seeing the three buildings together was definitely something. No wonder there was a photographer selling snapshots to tourists.
Alix pressed on, taking the road to the Labs. Up close, it was just as impressive as from a distance. Taking a moment to examine her reflection in one of the windows - she had to make a good first impression, and had chosen one of her best outfits for the occasion - she set some stray hairs back into place before making for the double doors, which swooshed open for her.
The Lab reception was a comfortable-looking room, with several seats around the place and a receptionist on duty. "Hey there!" he called out as Alix approached. "You here for registration with the Professors?"
"Yep. Also to pick up a Pokémon I reserved. Name's Alix Pearce, called from Eyria a few days ago."
The receptionist consulted his computer, tapping a few keys. "Ah, there you are, Miss Pearce. Torchic and Pokédex on reserve. I'll give the Professors a heads-up, let them know people are arriving for morning regs. They'll want to wait for more Trainers to get here before seeing you all at once. Take a seat, and I'll let everyone know when they're ready for you."
"Thanks very much." Alix chose a seat and settled in for the wait. Not a minute later, a kid hardly older than fifteen strolled into the Lab with a Mareep in tow. He gave the receptionist a casual wave before reaching the desk. "Morning, Sam. Are the Professors busy right now? I got the samples they wanted."
"Acer might be. I know you like to deliver them yourself, Ato, but morning registrations have started up. Leave 'em with me and I'll be sure to get 'em in the right hands."
The kid, Ato, just sighed and passed a small silver case over the counter. "Works for me, I suppose. C'mon, little guy." He took a seat on the opposite side of the reception, quickly busying himself preparing some form of snack for his Pokémon. Alix had to smile; the Electric-type was rather cute.
Appearance: Standing at exactly six feet in height, Alix shows the clear signs of a young Warrior in training: a reasonably strong physique, fit from years of training and exercise. She tends to dress in white, blue and silver, with several of her shirts decorated with the Pearce family emblem (the stylised head and plumes of an Altaria in mid-flight). Her hair, light brown, long and straight, resembles a hime cut (a common Sengun hairstyle), reaching just past her shoulders at its longest. Her eyes are a plain blue.
Alix can usually be found wearing a T-shirt, lightweight long pants, and solid-looking boots. She carries a large backpack to hold her gear, and wears a smaller satchel for her more frequently used items. A row of six empty catches are attached to the satchel's strap, designed to hold Poké Balls. Lastly, Alix wears a pair of fingerless leather gloves embroidered with a variation of the family emblem on the back; the usual Altaria imagery is backed by a hand-stitched Poké Ball logo in red and white.
Personality: Alix sees a challenge and takes it in her stride. This does not necessarily mean 'head-on' or 'too proud to back down'; learning martial arts exclusively for defensive purposes has instilled a sense of knowing when to pick one's battles. Alix tends to think tactically in the beginning of a match, aiming to either outmatch the opponent's speed or weather blows until she lands a match-winner. Once a plan gets into her head, however, she struggles to adapt if her opponent changes their tactics in response.
Socially, Alix is reasonably capable, but she has issues with the image she portrays; she's extremely attentive to how she looks. Why else would she fuss over her choice of clothing, or make a point of ensuring there's nothing out of place during her travels, as much as she does?
Profession: Alix has just become a Trainer, but is a Warrior first and foremost. Talents: Alix has inherited the skills and abilities of Sengun's Warriors. This means that she can talk to certain species of Pokémon and understand them in the same manner as a Pokémon Empath (a rare type of Trainer who can understand Pokémon). All Warriors have one or two specialty types of Pokémon, and Alix is no exception. The Pokémon that she finds easiest to talk to belong to the Flying and Fighting types: those are her specialties. She has yet to form a Link with a Pokémon, however, and has not chosen a Warrior Skill.
Alix often displays an affinity for Flying or Fighting Pokémon, but it is entirely possible for her to link with Pokémon of most other types. However, she has difficulty approaching and battling Electric or Psychic types, as they are the two with the most direct opposition to her favoured types.
Other than her Warrior teachings, Alix has a solid education in a variety of subjects, and has several years of training in basic defensive martial arts for use in Warrior combat.
Starter Pokémon: Alix does not currently have a Pokémon with her, but she has reserved a Torchic to be collected at the Ilex Laboratories. Torchic's moves are Scratch and Growl, and her ability is Speed Boost.

Hometown: Eyria City, Eyria, Sengun
Biography: The daughter of an Eyrian Warrior and a Trainer from Challena, Alix was quickly found to have inherited her father's Warrior capabilities. She grew up in Eyria's mountains and plateaus, watching bird Pokémon soar from the peaks in the north and treetops in the south, where Platinos' forestry reached into Eyria's lands. The family has an Altaria; the bond between a Pearce and an Altaria or Swablu is a long-running family trait.
From an early age, Alix was enrolled in Eyria's Feather Dance Dojo, where she learned her defensive martial skills over the years and trained in fitness. The Pearce family wasn't one for laziness. Between schoolwork, training and helping around the house, Alix was kept busy and out of trouble.
All Warriors have specialty types, indicating the species with which they work best. Alix didn't find out her own until the age of fourteen, after a sparring match against the family Hitmonchan that ended in a draw. She congratulated her opponent on fighting to a standstill, and was amazed to understand, more or less, the Hitmonchan's response. It was in the Pokémon's own language, of course, but Alix understood it.
Much like her father once described it, it was almost as if a light clicked on in her brain and she could perfectly translate the language. Quickly, Alix's parents introduced the teenager to Pokémon of other types: she found that, despite being a complete stranger, the Karea - a pure Flying-type - was the most receptive to her approach. And so Alix discovered her specialty types as a Warrior, and became eligible, in her parents' eyes, to take on the Pokémon League.
She chose not to begin the challenge, however, believing that she was too young and inexperienced to venture out into Sengun alone. Instead, she began to hone her skills further, doing research in her spare time to understand the abilities of a Warrior. Over the following years, she completed her classes at the Feather Dance Dojo, researched the history of Sengun, and studied the politics of Sengun's Ten Kingdoms, after having the fortune at age nineteen to meet Airryn Hawke, Queen of Eyria, herself.
So having prepared as best she could, Alix put in a call to the Ilex Laboratories a month after her twentieth birthday, reserving a Pokémon for pickup, and boarded an airship to Regala.
Okay, time to get this show on the road. The following characters are accepted into Warriors of Sengun:
Robyn Springs
Shinsuke Yamada
Evie Black
Weston Fields
Liam Hamne
I'm going to get started on the introductory in-character post, to give you an idea of how you should introduce yourselves. Feel free to move your sheets to the Characters tab at your leisure. To everyone else, my apologies and thanks for your interest, but your characters didn't quite make the cut.
I may leave applications open for those who wish to join slightly late. Haven't decided on that yet.
Update: Having reread most of the applications, I'll state which ones I'm accepting and get the RP started either this evening when I get back from work, or tomorrow when I have more spare time. If anyone wants to get any last-minute changes or applications in, now's the time. =)
So, just out of curiosity... With the co-GM back in action, are we slated to start any time soon?
Honestly, I don't know. I was out of commission for most of yesterday; lack of sleep, and small panic episodes, led to a day of doing almost nothing. I'm going to go back over the applications at some point today to re-examine them.
I hate to be the kind of person who doesn't have a straight answer, but I don't have a defined idea of when we'll start up.
first of all, just want to start off by saying thanks for reading the entire thing, and taking the time to make these notes. i agree with some of them, disagree with others, but you're the gm. i've decided not to make submit another character, and hope you guys have a fun and successful rp. ^.^
Thank you for taking it well, and for the well-wishes. I'll be honest, I was thinking your reaction could have been a lot worse than it was. >_<
@c3p-0h: Okay, here we go. - Name: - - Needs a last name. A character without one instantly raises a red flag. Seen that too many times before. - - And surely this person would have had a name before taking the name of her previous master. You don't specify one at all, and that just makes me even more skeptical.
- Appearance: - - A braid that long would be markedly longer if it were loose. That's almost floor-length, and is probably a large weight. Especially in combat. - - The scars indicate, to me at least (and the guys I roped into taking a look at the application), either that she's not that good at fighting - unlikely, given your consistent use of the subject - or that they're there for decoration. - - The tattoos. Much like the scars, you don't specify where, when, why, or how she got them. Moreover, what tattoo artist would allow or perform such extensive work at her age, if not younger? The largest one covers more than half her arm. - - - If no-one knows what one of the tattoos is, she should know - if she doesn't, she has a problem - and you still need to specify what it is. I don't approve of applications that hide details from the GM.
- Personality: Jarring, hostile, brushing off flaws and errors, inclined to deliberately unnerve and irritate... these traits give me the impression this character would not fit into a group of travelling Trainers, and the biography backs this up heavily. As a side note, the first impression I got from reading this section is that the character leans towards the villain side of the spectrum. I'm not looking for villain applications.
- Talents: - - Characters should not be experts in martial artistry, as is mentioned in the template. - - Some of the talents don't show up anywhere else, and as a result I get the impression they don't contribute to the character and are just there because they can be. (See commentary on CallSignCorsair's application.)
- Starter Pokémon: This feels to me like it was thrown in just for the purposes of ticking boxes, making sure the character complies with the requirements of a Pokémon role-play.
- Bio: - - First and foremost: I apologise for not specifying details upfront, but at the same time you need to ask me for information instead of diving headlong into a character that I've already established - even if only in name. None of your use of Master Song is how I envision him to be. - - I might be reading this wrong, or otherwise lacking in general knowledge, but I struggle to understand how a child is born to parents already past their prime. - - I'm disinclined towards the idea of underground fighting as a whole. It's not something that fits in with how I see the setting. As an aside, Sengun is not meant to be as 'dark' or 'gritty' as that.
I'm sorry, but I don't feel I can accept any part of this character, even with rewrites. If you wish to try again, I suggest that you do so with a different character.
Recommendation: Don't try to make your character special. Instead try to be normal for the setting.
If you aren't sure about something, ask me and I should have an answer for you. This goes for everyone, by the way.
It's been a while, hey?
