House Brune

"We Ask No Gifts"

Seat: Dyre Den
Sworn to King Daeron II

History:
The Brunes have lived and warred in Crackclaw Point since the time of the First Men. Knowing the terrain like no other, the people of Crackclaw Point thwarted Andal invasions, repelled Darklyn kings and fought off all others who thought to control the valleys, pine barrens and bogs of the peninsula. With little in the way of resources other than timber and what could be caught at sea, the Brunes, like their neighbours, were never rich. Castles were built to last, not to impress. Built on a cliff overlooking the sea, the Dyre Den of House Brune has stood for centuries, if not millennia. Its three crooked towers can be seen from far out and even miles away they can be spotted sticking out above the pines.

Around the castle lay the town where many ships can drop anchor in the port between the cliff. The town at the end of the road from Maidenpool has become a bustling place with an extensive market and warehouse district. Dotted along the coast are little fishing villages and a few small towns. Land inwards the people live a more simple life and are spread out over farming communities and towns between the forests and bogs. With little to gain and staunch defenders, Crackclaw Point remained isolated from the rest of Westeros and developed its own set of customs and traditions. Certainly one of these traditions was quarrelling with neighbours over harbours, pastures and grudges whose origin none could remember.

During the War of Conquest House Brune, like all of its neighbours, surrendered peacefully and swore itself to the Targaryens. Having always been loyal to the Targaryens, the Brunes fought by their side in the Dance of the Dragons and more recently in the Blackfyre Rebellion. Their financial and military support, along with the bravery displayed in battle by Lord Balfar on the Battle of the Redgrass Field, earned the House more sway at the royal court.

Though most of the history of Crackclaw Point was one of infighting and isolation, Balfar has managed to create a fragile peace in the region. Along with the Brunes of Brownhollow, Balfar has invested coin and favour to foster better relations with the Pynes, Hardys and Crabbs. In a bid to increase his influence beyond Crackclaw Point, taxes have started trickling down to the Iron Throne where historically few lords could ever be bothered to pay their dues. However, all things are not well as all over the peninsula unused blade hands are starting to itch and the heir to the Dyre Den has run away to Essos. With Balfar’s only son fighting for the Bright Banners in self-imposed exile, there are new pretenders to his seat. His brother Ser Armon could claim rightful succession if Balfar were to pass away but word has spread of a bastard son by the name of Roland Waters who could one day return and demand his birthright.

House Baratheon of Storm’s End
Words: “Ours is the Fury”
Seat: Storm’s End

(All WIP)
Description
House Baratheon is one of the most noble and puissant of Westeros, tracing its pedigree from the mighty Orys Baratheon, one of Aegon the Conqueror’s chiefest generals, and the proud lineage of the Storm Kings of House Durrandon, from whom Orys took his dearest Argella. Since the War of Conquest, House Baratheon has established itself as one of the greatest assets of the crown. Indeed, in the Blackfyre Rebellion, the Baratheons furnished a greater part of the forces which Breakspear led to the resounding triumph of Redgrass Field. The Baratheons are fiercely proud, eternally loyal, and, if crossed, will give no quarter. Their words serve as a stern reminder of their unwavering resolve.

House Baratheon has its seat at Storm’s End, one of the most ancient and impenetrable holdfasts in all of Westeros. Erected in defiance upon a severe cape of Shipbreaker Bay in the eastern horn of the Stormlands, it has never fallen, neither to siege nor subterfuge nor the constant storms which lavish its walls. Like the fist of Durran, the first Storm King who in the Dawn Age swore vengeance upon the gods for disturbing his wedding feast, Storm’s End has weathered all which has been sent against it. Some say that the children of the forest took part in its construction, weaving their magics into its intrepid barbicans, or that Bran the Builder advised Durran during its erection. It will never fall, save for in cowardice or by surrender. As long as a Baratheon remains behind the walls of Storm’s End, it will remain that way.

Houses sworn to the Baratheons:

  • House Buckler of Bronzegate.

  • Ser Albos Trant
A participant in the Battle of Redgrass Field. Still bears a ghastly scar from a Blackfyre lance. Prefers to wield battle axes.

  • Ser Merywn Storm
Another participant in the Battle of Redgrass Field. Bastard who spent his childhood at Stonehelm and squired for Ser Hamon Swann

  • Lysa, Aishelia, and Yona, Corenne’s handmaidens

Tentatively stating my interest.

I'm a bit busy at the moment, but I should be able to get a sheet up sometime soon - I'll just keep a semi-low profile in the first few weeks of the RP so I don't hold anyone up.

Does anyone have any supporting roles that they want filled? Uncles, brothers, bastards? Bannermen, even? I'm easy.

House Bracken

Seat: The castle of Stone Hedge lies east of Riverrun and south of the Red Fork, and therefore between High Heart and the Inn of the Kneeling Man.

Sigil:
They blazon their arms with a red stallion upon a golden escutcheon on brown.

House Words: With Thundering Hooves

Recent Events:
During the Blackfyre Rebellion, Lord Bracken sided with his kinsman Aegor Rivers whom was called Bittersteel. Barba Bracken was Aegon’s mistress until she was replaced by Melissa Blackwood. When Barba joked that Melissa was flat as a board, Aegon had the Teats renamed from Barba's Teats to Missy's Teats to honor his new mistress. While her son Aegor grew up alternating between Stone Hedge and King’s Landing, she remained at Stone Hedge to nurture her grievance.

After Melissa Blackwood’s disfavour with Aegon IV, Barba hoped to regain the king’s favour, only to be passed by for Aegon’s eye had fallen on her younger sister, Bethany Bracken.

When the time of war came, Lord Bracken travelled to Essos to hire mercenaries to aid in Daemon Blackfyre’s bid for the throne. However, he and the contingent of Myrish crossbowmen were delayed by storms, and so did not make it to the Battle of Redgrass Field in time. As such, House Bracken did not suffer too many losses, until the time of reckoning came. Some of the Brackens and knights sworn to Stone Hedge opted to leave with Aegor Rivers to the Free Cities, joining up with the Second Sons and later the Golden Company. Others stayed in Westeros and submitted to the mercy of the Crown.

Pardons were extended, and the Brackens forgiven. Lord Tully functioned as a jugde and conciliator and guided Stone Hedge back into the King’s peace. As the realm calmed down and order was reestablished, Simon Tully, the heir to Riverrun, married the young Helena Bracken, who was no older than thirteen but already shapely.

When in 205 AL Ser Otho Bracken unhorsed and slew Lord Quentyn Blackwood of Raventree, the old rivalry between the two houses reignited. Ser Otho also participated in the tourney at Ashford, and was present when Baelor Breakspear spoke his last.

House Members:
  • Lord Raymund Bracken

  • Ser Otho Bracken, the Brute of Bracken, his son and heir

  • Ser Luthor Bracken, his younger brother, with Aegor in Essos

  • Barba Bracken, fifth mistress of Aegon the Unworthy, mother to Aegor “Bittersteel” Rivers

  • Aegor “Bittersteel” Rivers, in exile in Essos, Commander of the Golden Company

  • Bethany Bracken, seventh mistress of Aegon the Unworthy

  • Helena Bracken, married to Simon Tully the heir to Riverrun

Name: Elyn Tarly
Affiliation: House Tarly of Horn Hill, currently residing at Highgarden
Age: 18

Personality:
Boisterously unladylike, Elyn has never fit in well with her peers, with the highborn ladies she has spent much of her life around. She never attempted to be like them and was well regarded as a nightmare to her mother and the septas charged with her education. More apt to anger than sadness, more likely to bellow her disapproval than sob, she is more likely to take a swing than make use of cutting words. Her mother despaired that she should have been born a man, and a common man at that, to which Elyn never disagreed. Her laughter is loud and unbridled, without care to her company. She will interrupt a conversation without a thought to who is speaking. Rough and uncouth, she has lived her life largely without friends, at least not of the sort her parents would approve of.

History:
Born to Alester Tarly, the master-of-arms in Horn Hill and brother to Lord Alan, and his second wife, Cyrenna Swann, in 191. Elyn was a fat, happy baby who grew into a persistently plump young woman. Alester was nearly an old man when he married Cyrenna, a cousin of the ruling Swanns, in 189. Elyn would be their only child, her mother unable to conceive again. Alester's previous wife had been just as barren, a sore spot for Ser Alester, more so only because she had lived such a long life.

Elyn saw the loveless nature of her parent's union from an early age. They fought often, when they thought she wasn't around hear or that they did so softly enough for her not to notice. But take notice she did, and some of her earliest words were picked up in the things they said to each other. She took refuge amongst the servants of Horn Hill, with the rough and tumble sort of play that made her mother cringe and the septas slap her hands and rear. Nothing could dissuade her though, no matter who tried or what methods attempted could calm her into a genteel, noble sort of girl. She would not pray, refused to learn to sing sweetly, Elyn would instead run from the keep to go down to the local village. As she got older she would sneak away to the stables and entertain the lowborn men with raucous stories and lewd songs. Some whisper, of course, that she entertained them in numerous other ways as well.

There was, quite simply, no hope for the girl. She was quite marriageable, men who met her wouldn't dream of a wife like her, and even those who didn't had heard the rumors of her unsavory behavior. She was a disappointment and shameful to the proud House Tarly and the Lord of Horn Hill gave an ultimatum when she turned 16. She would be wed in two years or she would be sent away, so thoroughly had she found ways to disturb his household and court. Her parents despaired, their fights turned uglier, until Ser Alester died just over a year past. With his death came rumors, whispers that had been kept at bay while the man still lived.

Elyn was not his daughter.

He had been sterile his whole life.

Neither wife pregnant, save for Elyn's birth, no whore or lover ever pregnant by his seed, and he was a known philanderer.

The Lady Cyrenna must have been an adulteress, it was no surprise Elyn was such a vile woman.

As the terms of the ultimatum came to a close, Elyn no closer to marriage than when it had been issued, her mother confessed while in the throes of a bad fever. Racked by guilt and feeling sorrowful over the loss of her daughter, no matter how very different they had been, she told Elyn the truth. Or at least, what Elyn considers to be the truth. The maester tried to tell her otherwise, that the fever had made it so nothing she said could be trusted, but even if that were the case, she chooses to believe it. Lord Vyman Tyrell had bedded her mother, a brief affair that only lasted long enough to put her with child.

Rather than have her future decided for her, she left nearly immediately, for Highgarden. If her mother spoke the truth she was no Tarly anyways, just a Flowers, but a bastard who could claim the Lord of the Reach as a half-brother. She had never been to his court, the bizarre atmosphere and scandals that erupted from it had made it so her father never stepped foot near Highgarden, and barred his family from doing so as well. Her decision did not sit well with her mother or Lord Tarly, but there seemed little to be done if Lord Leos did not wish to turn her out.

Ser Gwayne Corbray
Age: 33
House: Corbray of Heart's Home

House Corbray is only a small knightly house in the Vale oft going unmentioned in the history books, however they were immortalised after the Blackfyre rebellion. Ser Gwayne Corbray, a young knight of the Kings-Guard wielding the Valyrian steel sword Lady Forlorn entered single combat with the pretender Daemon Blackfyre, a duel which would go down in history. Lasting well over an hour the two Valyrian steel swords sparked across each other until only Daemon was left standing, the great-bastard called for one of his captains to take his injured opponent to the rear in order to receive healing; a decision that would ultimately cost him the war, and make Gwayne realise he'd been fighting for the wrong side.

History: Life if not easy for a distant relation to a small and poor house, Gwayne grew up not as small-folk but certainly a far shot from nobility. His father and he were in service to the main Corbray branch at Heart's Home, generally doing menial tasks growing up in the admittedly small shadow the main family, it meant however that Gwayne had access to the training yard.

With a sword in his hand Gwayne could forget all the troubles of his low standing, he could be Serwyn of the Mirror Shield or the Dragonknight, slaying giants and grumpkins. It quickly became apparent that the lad was a natural, he was good with a blade, more than good. Soon the embarrassment of having a distant relation knocking the heir on his arse was outweighed by having a potentially great knight under their name. By the time we won his first tournament Gwayne was welcomed with open arms to the main branch of the family and knighthood soon followed.
Gwayne's first kill came when he was 17, a band of rogue Nights-Watch brothers never knew what hit them. Eventually Gwayne was offered a place within the Kings-guard, a position he eagerly accepted.

The next three years as a white knight were certainly the happiest in Gwayne's life, while he was not one for court life he was content having found an honorable place in the world and to be known throughout Westeros. Everything changed with the war though, Gwaynes strong sense of duty put him steadfast on the side of the loyalists and was one of the fiercest fighters throughout the war. During the climactic battle of the Redgrass field, Ser Gwayne was at the head of the van and fought his way to Daemon himself; the two fought for almost an hour their respect for each other growing as the clashes of their Valyrian steel blades sparked across the field, no other man dared interrupt the two.

At long last Daemon took the upper hand and incapacitated Gwayne, to his great surprise though, the pretender didn't finish his opponent, instead he wasted valuable time sending the Kings-guard to get healing, a more noble act Gwayne had not witnessed. As he recovered Gwayne began to question his own allegiance for the first time in his life, Daemon was not the evil bastard he had been made out to be and Daeron was notably absent from the battle, who he asked himself was the real king?

The question was answered for Gwayne later that day as he learned saving him had cost Daemon both the war and his life. Hailed as a hero by Westeros Gwayne couldn't but feel anything but, feeling personally responsible for the death of a king. He continued on in the KIngs-guard, never voicing his doubts as they ate him up from the inside out.

Name: Ser Baelor Manderly

Age: 24

Appearance:

Baelor has blonde hair of a pale hue which he keeps neat and cut. While his family is prone to excessive weight, the young knight does not suffer this due to his frequent fasting. Baelor is built like a swordsman, broad and quick. His face, in spite of his age, is lined with austerity and worry.

Description:
Born the seventh child of Lord Manderly, his fate was apparently sealed when his father subsequently named him Baelor, after the pious king.

Even as a boy, he rarely laughed or smiled, to the point that his father, Lord Wylfred, would refer to it in a letter before his death and that of his wife, Lady Cassana of House Hornwood. Watching their ship wreck in the Bay of Seals killed what childhood remained for him, and he’s grown into a harsh and bitter man, utterly uncompromising, seeing the world in black and white, where right and wrong is indelible. He found comfort in Faith.

When his eldest brother rose to the position of Lord of White Harbor and Warden of the White Knife, Baelor was only a young lad and studying a lot in the White Sept. However, around the age of thirteen a new interest and idea took shape in the young man’s mind. The Faith was lacking a sword and shield, while it clearly deserved them. He resolved to become a man of piety, a knight who would uphold all oaths and vows sworn.

With the exile of the Manderlys to the North nearly a thousand years ago, and the demise of House Gardener, the Knightly Order of the Green Hand was taken over by Baelor’s house. It was however only a titular entity up to Baelor’s ascension to knighthood. He had studied religion and his house’s history well enough and came to the realisation a lot of its supposed glory was hollow.

He took an active role in reinvigorating the order, and attracted swords and pious knights by his example. Baelor has named himself Shield of the Faith and Defender of the Dispossessed, after two of the titles the Manderlys possess. Baelor commands the Seven’s Seastar, an impressive war-galley.

Recently, he has lead 76 fellow knights south to a pilgrimage to the Quiet Isle, which coincided with an invitation of Lord Jasper Arryn to attend his nameday’s tournament. Baelor recognises in the young Arryn lord a fellow spirit and means to be present and participate in the event, together with the other Seventy-Seven.

The Gulltown Tourney
Who: Any Lords and Ladies of noble birth
What: A grand tourney and feast
Where:The port city of Gulltown, both at the Grafton keep and in the outlying areas
When: To begin at the onset of the IC
Why: To honor Lord Jasper's sixteenth nameday as well as his regency's end

Mechanics:

  • Invitations and notifications would have gone out some months previous, assume your lords and ladies were well aware of this in advance.

  • You need not send any representative if you don't wish to

  • There will be a joust, a melee, and squire subsets of both, in addition to the feasts culminating in the honoring and blessing of the winners

  • The winner of the squire's joust and the squire's melee will be knighted

  • The winner of the knight's joust will be granted a suit of armor

  • The winner of the knight's melee will be granted a new weapon of their choosing

  • Winners will be decided by dice rolls, 1 for skill (weighted) and 1 for luck

  • PC participants must send me a PM of their entrants in addition to a skill #/10, 10 being the best knight in the existence of Westerosi history.

  • That number is then multiplied by a d10 dice roll, ex: 5/10 knight rolls a 6 = 30 points

  • Luck is calculated with a d10, and is added to the weighted skill roll, ex: luck roll gives a 4, knight from the previous example would have 34 points

  • Winners will be the entrants with the highest points

Most importantly, remember that this is a small game in the greater story. It is an IC competition, don't make it an OOC contest. Be honest in your submissions, and have fun with it.

I've almost got my sheet finished - House Redwyne should be up and runnin', soon!

I need some wives/betrothed for Lord Arron's children - the son and heir is already married, but he still has two other sons who are quite eligible, as well as a few nephews. Anyone interested in landing a Redwyne? They're a great catch, I promise. ;)

House Reyne of Castamere

House History

Of all the houses sworn to Casterly Rock, there is no question that the most wealthy and powerful among them are the Reynes, to such a point that no other noble house in the Westerlands can hope to emulate them. The Reynes can trace back their lineage almost as far back as the Lannisters, and there are even stories that claim that the Reynes came into existence as a cadet branch of the Lannisters, much like the Karstarks to the Starks. This could be supported by the fact that both brandish lions on their banners as well as the vast amounts of wealth and power possessed by the Reynes, second only to their golden overlords. Regardless, there is no other evidence that this is true, and many deny it all together, especially the Lannisters, much to the chagrin of the Reynes.

In relation to the Lannisters of Casterly Rock, House Reyne has remained the second most powerful house in the Westerlands, largely due to their large abundance of gold mines, which have made the Reynes great and the Lannisters greater. However, it is no secret that the two lions have been at odds with each other for generations, to such a point there has been a deep rivalry between the two houses that has lasted for years. These tensions finally came to a head during the Blackfyre Rebellion when Ser Quentyn Ball, with the aid of Ser Robb Reyne, delivered disastrous defeats to the Lannisters.

Like the rebellion that they supported, the Battle of Redgrass Field proved disastrous to the Reynes. Lord Randyll Reyne and his brother Ser Richard Reyne would lose their lives in that battle. With another brother, Ser Robb Reyne, a formidable swordsman of much renown, would flee across the Narrow Sea with Bittersteel and many of Daemon's sons. The momentous task of assuming the lordship of Castamere would fall to the youngest brother, who was only a boy of 12 years. His young age possibly allowed Castamere from a worse fate from siding with the rebellion. What resulted was heavy penalties that cut directly into the Reyne wealth and confiscation of some very significant gold mines. Despite this, through through underhanded deals and general ruthlessness, Lord Rory Reyne has reacquired the mines that the Lannisters didn't personally confiscated, and is still seeking to regain those lost assets of House Reyne. Although obviously wounded from the war, House Reyne managed to rise from the conflict like a phoenix from the ashes.

Members and Retainers of House Reyne

Lord Rory Reyne, Lord of Castamere, 25

Lord Randyll Reyne, Previous Lord of Castamere, Slain at the Battle of Redgrass Field, 27

Ser Richard Reyne, Brother to Rory, Robb, and Randyll, also slain at Redgrass, 24

Ser Robb Reyne, Considered one of the greatest knights of his generation, dealt the Lannisters and Tyrells grievous blows whilst campaigning with Ser Quentyn Ball, survived the Battle of Redgrass Field, and fled to Essos with Bittersteel, 36

Renna Reyne, Daughter of Randyll Reyne, 13

Ser Jesper "Crookjaw", Long-serving master-at-arms of Castamere, large and formidable, his jaw was broken during his youth and was never set properly

Here's my sheet; not quite done yet, but I'll get around to it sometime. Lemme know if anything doesn't work, and yeah.

House Redwyne of The Arbor

House Redwyne, one of the most powerful and influential Houses of The Reach, are known throughout Westeros for their ships and the fantastic wine which is produced on the island over which they hold sway. Publicly, the Redwynes are honourable and dutiful, loyal to their Leigelords in Highgarden: especially so, due to the ties of marriage which connect the two Houses. However, aside from the current Lord Redwyne, who is now well into his twilight years and a relic of a bygone era, the rest of the Household (his sons) are extremely ambitious, and only loosely loyal to the lunatic who rules over them from Highgarden. Lord Redwyne’s sons are known for their ambition, and their ruthlessness when it comes to getting what they want - and, as the elderly man spends himself spending more and more time in his private chambers in readiness to hand over the mantle to his eldest son and heir, the position of House Redwyne - and the Arbor - may soon move up in the world of Westerosi Politics.
