lol.I'm most interested in a role-play centered around a single squad during Enemy Unknown/Within-era where we focus on personalized character issues as much as the combat; near-psychological horror, etc.

And seeing their best friend--No, brother in arms--Get ripped to shreds by a Chrysallid. They think that they can just avenge him by killing the damn purple menace. But no. Mere moments later, while the squad is holding the defensive, the lost squad member rises up.

And then proceeds to tell them "XCOM BULLSHIT GODDAMN! 97% SHOT MISSED, COME ON!" Then eats them all after turning into a Cryssalid.

YAAAY happy endings.

If you thought I was actually going to write properly, Lel. No.

No problem guys. This is where the casual elements I talk about comes in. Taking a page (or hundreds) from Ernest Hemmingway, indeed, quality matters tye most. I have no quarrels with having a minimum of like two paragraphs as long as it's beefed up with all the goodness that exists in writing, like character interaction, development, a good show of the setting, the emotions. Or some powerful scene that only the lack of words can imply. What I can do is that I can make damn sure that there are no unreasonable rules and attitude that would impede such writing and some of the advantages offered by the casual experience.Edit: Also, our discussion of this has lead me to a crazy idea- the RP could become one of the first, if the first Casual-Advance RP.I could post an interest check in both the casual and advance section. Casual RPers and Advance RPers could then roleplay together in IC. They will abide by the same rules, but expectations will differ.Since neither types of RPers are better than the other obviously, I'll tailor the expectations for each category accordingly.I need input for this idea though, because this is the first time I've ever thought about it.

That could work, I'd clarify to Advanced specifically though that is not a write an essay for a post kind of RP. That it's an RP where two quality paragraphs work.
Although I have been running into more cases lately of Advanced that isn't much different from Casual, those essay Advanced players (who often act better than those who don't write essays) so exist, and posting an Advanced Interest Check risks putting those kinds of people in the RP.

I'll see what I can do. I'd have plenty of time soon, because this is my last week of work in my temporary job.

I actually played that song when I nearly completed the mission.

They were down to just a drone and their sectoid commander.

We had lost two/three folks.

We won.

Then the song got upbeat after the cutscene and the afterwards :3

That's what they all say.

Then the RP dies out because too many people that were involved in a major event went silent.

We'll see.

We'll be in touch, Raven.
And remember; We will be watching.

It helps to keep players in the loop of that stuff, if not for nothing more than to engage them and reassure them the RP is still alive.

Hehehehehe.

I'm partaking in a creativity sandwich in free RP. I have no idea why. But it's fun and tasty.

Mmmm, crossovers.

Oh sorry that I haven't been replying. Yesterday was my real first day not working during the holidays. I was either half-conscious or relaxing/reccing. Anyway, I've spent some time working on the RP. Here's what I've been mulling on.

First thing's first, what I'm going to do is to offer a choice of 3 CS templates. The first would be the hardcore UN sign-up sheet, the second a simplified OOC CS, and the third would be completely freeform. The last option lets you write your CS however way you want it. In all cases, I'm going to make the selection process a little tough, because one mistake I noticed that had been made by plenty o' GMs is that they'd just open the floodgates and let anyone through. Here's the simplified CS:

Furthermore, I've been working on how I should deal with having a mix of both casual and advance players. Here's what I got:

Casual
- Simplified or free-form CS encouraged.
- Occasional lapses in the language allowed.
- Relaxed standard of storytelling.
- Allowed to have up to four characters.
- General guideline for length of post would be one quality paragraph per character minimum. More would be welcome.

Advanced
- Either the use of the detailed or simplified CS encouraged.
- Strict standard of English with little to no mistakes allowed.
- Must have high standard of storytelling, character development, etc.
- Allowed to have one character only; two if the RPer can handle it.
- General guideline for length of post would be two quality paragraphs per character minimum. More would be welcome.

Furthermore, players may jump categories as long as they tell me that they're doing it. For example, casual RPers may want to try their hand at writing Advance-like while Advance RPers might need to relax during times of real life problems or stress.

What do you guys think?

A very interesting proposal, one I find especially peculiar to think about. I've never tried to classify myself into a roleplaying standard before, and as I read the two listed categories I find that I lie somewhere in the middle ground, so conforming to either one will be a rather new sensation.

Leaving my personal standing and quirks aside, I can see how your categorization can help keep the two standards seperate, yet not overly so. It would be simple enough for someone to, per se, 'try their hand' at the Advance style coming up from a 'casual', and equally simple for someone to 'relax' and be a more laid-back casual. The only real stipulation being paragraph limits and tighter grammar restrictions- the character limit is rather superficial.

The simplified character sheet is certainly simpler xD I can definitely see this idea of combining the two 'classes' of roleplayers panning out.

I'm sorry if I comment on something incorrectly or in a strange manner; I am not used to having roleplay categorized in such a manner (based on skill/length... The idea just seems...segregational to me), nor am I used to the forum setting.

DarkRaven, I agree with most things.

However, in the Advanced one, 'only allowed to do English' I believe is a bit worse.

If, let's say, an African X-com Soldier panicked and he knew English as a second language, it's more likely they'd speak their native language.

lol Derpestein :D I'm sorry, but you derped there :D By a good standard of English language I meant the technical writing itself, as in the grammar, tenses and such. Feel free to write about characters speaking in a different language all you want. But I'm not expecting someone to come up with an entire post in Japanese or Russian, so yeah :D

As for the policies I came up with being segregationist... Do you have any ideas on how to make it less so? Because I tried my best not to make it such that one group is marginalised. As for some policies being a bit too strict. I guess what I can do is to insert the key words 'general guidelines', meaning that exceptions can easily be made.

Another way is not to have different expectations for each type of players at all, and instead create one single set of rules for all players, which I'm not sure will work out because it may become too relaxed for some advance players and too harsh for some casual players.

Honestly I'd just suggest letting people post where their comfortable.

Your casual standards being the minimum, but people are free to aim for the Advanced standards as well when the mood suits them. Dividing the players in this RP by skill level groups will only serve to divide the community helping make this RP.
