I haven't played any FF games (for shame, I know!) but I did 13. I found it to be kinda…tedious. The combat was weird and it felt like the entire setting was one long hallway, you know? I dropped it, cause I didn't like having to read the codex for everything lol. That said, I really like Lightning. I think she's pretty cool, and I love the fact that she has no romance in the game. Fuck Snow, though. Like seriously.
This was pretty much my impression of the game. The whole thing's one endless corridor runner. There's no towns, or any diversions from walking forwards, fighting, walking, fighting, walking, cutscene, rinse and repeat. It was just repetitive and boring. The world opens up much, much further in (about 40 hours in) but even then there's nothing to actually
do bar monster hunts which is... more fighting. The actual fighting system itself wasn't too bad but it wasn't exactly fun either, and that took like 20 hours just to properly open up too.
Story's terrible too. Like, really terrible. Unbearably so. Saturday morning anime quality. Really abysmal for an FF. And to even understand what the hell is going on you have to read a codex. Took me a few hours to find that out and the thought of having to read something to actually understand the story being presented is just bad. Characters are also terrible. Lightning was cool enough, and I actually didn't mind her so much, but - Sazh excepted - the rest of the characters are shit. Snow's crap. Hope is gag worthy. Vanille is typical 'anime grunt nonstop'. Just... yeah. It was bad.
Soundtrack was good though. The battle theme's nice.
The FF's I've played are 3 and 4 for the DS, parts of 6 for the GBA, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13 to completion and parts of 14. Looking forward to the 10 remake actually, and I'd love a proper remake of 6. 7 was good, although its aged a bit and the translation is... bad, but even despite how much hype the game gets, it's still pretty damn good. 9's wonderful too.
Just 13 was diabolical.
