My question is, has anyone ever ended a storyline? And I don't just mean "Guys this is dead, abandon ship" type shit. I mean "We just finished a muthafuckin' RP, HELL yeah". Has anyone ever gotten to the climax and ended an RP? Because, I've only been part of something that amazing two times(though I'm not a particularly dedicated RP'er, so that's saying a lot).

I know this might seem like a stupid question, but a lot of RPs wither and die before going anywhere(of what I have seen) or turn into a spam fest, so I am wondering about other people's more successful experiences.

I guess the questions after that, are, what was the ending? Was it truly amazing? Were you proud of what you accomplished? What was the plot you ended? How have you learned from that RP'ing experience? And anything else appropriate to the subject you wouldn't mind sharing.

I have, I honestly don't remember how long it lasted though. It was between 3 - 5 years and it was an Advanced level RP, most of the members went inactive leaving only three people. Those three people being me, the other guy who helped make it, and someone who joined early on.

Granted we ended the RP sooner than it should have ended because we knew the site was pretty much dead, and was probably going to be taken down because of that. But we ended it nonetheless and parted ways sadly.

What was the ending? Everyone died because of God, earth exploded.

Was it truly amazing? Indeed it was.

Were you proud of what you accomplished? Honestly finishing an RP that lasted 3 - 5 years when RPs barely lasted two freaking months....Yeah, I was pretty fucking proud.

What was the plot you ended? That's probably too long to fit here....But hell, I'll give you an idea. Fallen angels, some died, experiments, angel/human hybrids vs angels, death. Guy summons demons, demons help fight angels, demons betray humans. Good fallen angels reveals some shit, fighting Lucifer, god kills Lucifer, god destroys earth from being so holy.

How have you learned from that RP'ing experience? Oh there's allot.....But to keep it short, dedication gets you really fucking far man (Although I haven't found anything to be that dedicated to in a while though, only a Bleach RP that I'm in currently)

There were also a few shorter RPs I've finished, but they weren't really meant to last long anyways.

I've only ever finished tabletop RP campaigns, and the few I have finished have been pretty epic endings.

Online ones, especially on Guild, keep dying because people drop out, or slow to a crawl.

The original Renalta lasted four years before finishing, now there's a sequel. I've finished a couple other RP's and terminated a half a dozen pet projects when the experiment failed.

To be fair brovo the original Renalta didn't get the opportunity to reach its conclusion. It was a casualty of guildfall and the sequel is its Phoenix.

To be fair Gat it did. It just didn't get the explosive ending. It still got one, characters still died, people still got to choose and influence their character epilogues, etc. Had it been further from the end I'd have revived it, but since it was almost over anyway...

Most stuff I launch usually ends up going in such a way there's no ending. It just evolves and changes as it ages and we progress with our history.

Sure, why not? Even though more people have ended those than group RPs, I don't mind hearing about it.

I've completed two roleplays one of which actually 'finished' and wasn't just a hurried rush that makes me embarrassed to say I finished it. However yes I have indeed ended a roleplay before. While two characters didn't actually 'finish' from my knowledge the bulk of the roleplay was finished. The sequel died quickly but for all intents and purposes the roleplay ended on a rather decent end.

This roleplay was about three teams of camp half blood demi-gods all of whom were sent out. Unfortunately due to drop outs the first group and the second group (minus one person) was disbanded (read: killed off by monsters) and the third group (Led by a guy who didn't even want to go but got hand selected at the very last moment) actually managed to come back alive. They failed their quest but there was very little they could do about that. Each person got a decent end to their characters and all around it was a good time when I actually started to become the roleplayer I am today.

I half-did (well not me, the GM of a RP I had been a part of for years). Walking Dead Universe RP on the old site, with the 1st Installation ending with a massive horde battle and all of the characters' fates unknown, likely dead. But that's how we ended it! Like, the thread was done.

Then, we all got nostalgic and created a 2nd installation (a sequel, if you will), set a few months after the first one, with some characters dead, some new ones brought in, and a fresh storyline. However, that one died when the old site did. The 3rd installation died due to inactivity here on the new site.

It was amazing: at least the first installation anyway. We had our periods of inactivity, but at the end of a day it was almost like we were a family. Plus years with the same characters allows you to get really in depth with developing their personalities. I was so into it that I wrote an entire pre-outbreak backstory for my main guy. Didn't post it anywhere, just wrote it to write it.

On another site we ended an RP unexpectedly. (We were spies and Super soldiers.) We set bombs on an oil rig being used as a makeshift base, and they died. I didn't expect anyone to do that. It was a fun RP though.

I did once, a ways back in the beginning of my RP career. After some unfortunate real life occurrences, the moderating team decided to can the site as a whole. So, they organized a massive lava flood of the valley the game was set in. They wrote the volcanoes erupting and raining down, and everyone else played their characters escaping through a tiny mountain pass or dying. I had about seven/eight there and all of them except two passed on. Most died by liquid fire, one broke his leg while trying to escape and was trampled, and the last got out with his best friend. Though it sucked, it was a great closing, reading through the multiple threads was awesome and I don’t think it could’ve been done any better.

Since then, haven’t ended anything officially. xD

Yesh. I finished one arc of a story line with a partner once.

Hope that counts.

It took months & that was relatively fast because we collaborated via skype/google docs every.single.day for hours on end--& also by the help of alcoholic beverages. Actually, when we drank it turned out incomprehensible so we’d have to start over a bit but I digress.

I had a fucking blast & was hyped when it was all said & done.

It was engaging, the ending was suspenseful, & we had planned on the story lasting years.

Learned that it takes a partner you can shoot the shit with to bounce ideas back and forth. Be open, honest, and just have fun.

^Skype and Google Docs do miracles for RPing. It's nice to be able to do joint-posts with people. Makes conversations in RP form look so much more natural.

I've been RPing since 2008 and I still haven't been in a game that formerly finished. I've been in at least a hundred that have died out or have become so slow paced they've become comatose. Really depressing, actually. I still have fun with these games, I just never get that feeling of closure I'd like.

Been doing a couple games with a close knit group of friends. We're moving at an extremely slow pace, but I feel those RPs are the only ones that have a chance. When you actually know who you are RPing with, it definitely makes getting things done a lot easier. As good as anonymous people can be, it's impossible to expect any to be reliable.

Maybe I'll be able to gloat about one I've finished one day. Doubtful, but, hey, I'll try to remain optimistic.
