Descartes Give her the D

Member Seen 7 yrs ago

Username: Descartes

Character nickname: Descartes

Gender: Male

Appearance: Enigmatic in nature, nobody actually knows the true form Descartes can actually take, many claiming him to be holding back the bulk of his power. He is most comonly seen, however, as looking like the historical figure in which his name derived. That is, he is a short Frenchman. His skin is fair and he is identified by his strong aquiline nose and short mustache. His hair is long and curly. Descartes typically wears a long coat with a white collar sticking out from it.

Personality: At a glance, many would believe Descartes to being incapable of speech. Some may even reject him outright because of how he usually comes off as flippant, or otherwise offensive and uncooperative. In fact, Descartes himself dislikes partaking in public discourse or conjecture, or at least the person in question calling himself Descartes does. When Descartes buckles up and decides to take up the pursuit that is "human interaction", he will do so in a nearly sarcastic manner. Descartes drops in and drops out at untimely intervals.

The character in question, that is, the persona in which the writer usually takes while using the handle of "Descartes" takes the form of an enigmatic man who speaks in riddles and rhymes. His speech will consist of a rhyme scheme that is AABA CCDD. Descartes switches, however, into free verse should he ever become angry. He is known to use innuendo; sometimes subtle, other times not very. Every now and again, he will say something that either makes a lot of sense or doesn't, depending on what perspective a person looks at it from.

Alignment: Neutral

Skills:
Before: Mountain climbing, bush crafting, wrestling, weight lifting, guitar, singing
After: Debate, philosophy, rhyme, rhythm, logic

Powers:
Give the D: If something is used against Descartes, he can protect himself by giving it the D. He can, for instance, if a fireball were thrown at Descartes, he can turn it into a fidreball, thus either negating the object, or turning it into a ball of fidre- whatever fidre means.
D manipulation: In addition to giving anything the D, Descartes can manipulate anything which contains the letter D. He can take control of a dragon, or even fully take control of himself, possessing a D in his own name.
Mind Body Dichotomy: Descartes can use a form of astral projection where his consciousness leaves his physical body, capable of looking around and scouting without being noticed. All the while, the physical body is still controlled, but acts in a primitive manner with slight jerking motions similar to that of a reptile.
D the D: Anytime during Descartes' rhyming, should there be alliteration in which the D sound is repeating, Descartes can create a large barrier shaped like a D or a projectile blade also in the shape of a D.
A crucible piece gained from The Elder Scrolls gave Descartes two powers.
Cognito Ergo Sum: Descartes achieves CHIM, allowing him to manipulate all nonsentient objects at a large scale, but only at a large scale. He can, for instance, change a jungle into a forest; but cannot change the design of a building smaller than three stories.
Muatra: He also acquires a spear which, although possesses a tip, in fact engulfs whatever touches said tip. Anything cut by the spear is sucked into some other space. Descartes can use this spear to drag enemies closer to him by removing the space between them.

Character nickname: Bee

Gender: Male

Appearance: Bee appears as a very lean, pale looking man with a shaggy mess brown hair and the tiniest bit of stubble over his chin and lip. He has bags under his eyes, which are covered by a pair of rectangular glasses. His entire left arm is mechanical; you can hear a faint whir when it moves. Bee constantly wears a black suit and tie with black gloves, concealing the arm rather well. On his hip in a holster lies an ornate Japanese sword, and he carries a heavy attache case at his side.

Personality: During the transformation process, Bee's own ego was strong, and his personality is largely in tact. Moreover, his avatar isn't anything he played so much as an amalgamation of stuff he thinks is cool, regardless or whether it's actually cool. In his world, Bee was a bitter introvert who spent most of his time talking about swords and watching anime. Here, though, he's gained a goal, and a sense of purpose. He has something to do.
Generally speaking, he's actually rather lazy, and if it weren't for the fact that he gets to explore magical worlds of whimsy and adventure he'd probably sit at home watching anime all day. He'd even be content for the chance to just wander endlessly. Despite his aloof nature, his heart melts if he finds something particularly cute.
He possesses a love for spicy foods, and loves showing off.
In combat, he tends to stay aggressive, all the while spewing out terrible one-liners.

Alignment: Protagonist

Skills: Beforehand
-Drawing
-Cooking
-Video games
-A natural affinity for logistics
-A nigh unhealthy love of medieval weaponry
After the switch
-Maximum Swordsmanship. Bee can wield swords in ways no human should. It's less like he's akin to a legendary master, and more like he's drawing directly from the source of inspiration those masters had. He can cut through space to attack from a distance by using iaido that fast. He can parry from impossible angles by using any part of his sword. He's capable of cutting through things swords shouldn't cleave with a focused strike reminiscent of Jigen, and at max speed, his blade can occupy multiple spaces to attack from different angles.

Powers: Bee's most notable augment is his great strength and durability; he's capable of lifting and throwing tanks and similarly heavy objects. On top of this, his left arm is robotic, even more durable than the rest of his body. Its full power requires further augments and modifications to utilize. He can get by well enough just by tanking. Probably.

Equipment: Bee's primary weapon is Korbo, a Japanese O-katana. Its deep red hilt is contrasted nicely by the soft brown color of the ivory-capped scabbard, and the guard depicts falling ringo. The sword is a conceptual manifestation of Bee's own emotions. Its true power yet lies dormant; the seal must be broken by Bee's own love.

I'm interested and making a bio which will likely be done by tomorrow. Just a thing.

I do actually want the newbies to be a bit less powerful than the veterans, simply because they're new.

Well this is a rather loaded statement. I mean, having less/no plot devices or whatever is fine, but giving other players (or, you know, yourself) an advantage just because they (or you) happened to take part in a particular roleplay seems like a pretty terrible idea to me. It’s just generally unfair and against a common sense of party balance and equality, especially for a roleplay like this one which, pardon my language but lets be honest here, seems geared towards powerlevel dickwaving competitions. Just an opinion.

Well, I'm not wanting a huge difference. By "a bit" I meant a single crucible piece, maybe even two. The veterans are also mostly at a point where they struggle to even get more powerful. It's quite common for abilities to add less and less power as the character gains more pieces, if they're even capable of absorbing power from them (I don't believe Omega can, and I know the "real" Kalama is completely incapable of it. Pretty soon Samus's suit will be reaching its maximum possible modules (it's powerful, but does have its limits)).

I truly understand your opinion, it's just that it really won't take long for the veterans to "max out" and I'd rather keep that progression with the newbies intact. If you really want to be at equal power to the veterans, I won't stop you. I was simply saying I would prefer that the newbies start with plenty of progression laid out before them.

There's also really no PVP here, so power progression mainly causes more ease in dealing with the hazards of a world. Some worlds aren't as dangerous (we did go to MLP at one point in the antagonist group, but ended up reducing it to a lifeless rock. That was fun. >:D), while some are extremely dangerous (we went to one of the Metroid games, for instance).

Well, my avatar's a rocket, and I made up my username. So, there it is.
==========================================================
|Username: Sutternalt

|Character nickname: N1-L3

|Gender: Male

|Appearance:

Interactive Graphic

Total Height: 105m
Maximum Diameter: 17m

|Personality: Quick to judge, very forgiving, tends to empathize with people. Likely more curious than is strictly healthy for himself, and generally enjoys puzzling over things. Loves to jump to the extreme, convoluted solutions rather than the simple, tried-and-true methods. Probably has a compulsive need to be different.

|Alignment: Protagonist

|Skills:
+Before: Good at spatial reasoning and math. Can deal with people somewhat effectively. Decent grasp on physics and rudimentary engineering. Probably might be able to write computer code. Can speak a little spanish.

+After: Understands Russian. Zero-g maneuvering, orbital mechanics, control and understanding of N1 equipment all comoe instinctively.

|Powers: Re-fuelling - fuel slowly refills magically in his tanks. It doesn't fill quickly enough for constant firing of rockets, but it does allow unlimited re-firing.
Localized Zero-G field - Stage 4 and up operate as if they were in space - that is, they don't weigh anything, and float in the air if detached from the lower stages.

|Equipment: ...well, he's a rocket. Each stage, below, can be separated from the next with explosive bolts.

Stuff other than engines:
-Cameras for photography and videography aboard the LOK and LK modules.
-Life support systems
-Couple of Orlan spacesuits
-Heatshields and Parachutes
-Digital guidance computer
-Various comms dishes
-Fuel Cells, for power, water, and Oxygen generation
-Altimeter and various avionics

|Other: A gradual inertness and dimming of consciousness happens, as the N1 isn't alive. It's sometimes difficult for him to remember to think.

I mean, I suppose I could go with Black Widow. That's much more reasonable. And perhaps less entertaining.

I will go with Black Widow if, say, the GM says that trying to RP a 105m rocket is unreasonable. Honestly, I was planning on getting rid of all but the LK lander and possibly the LOK orbiter within my first post.

Ok. Going to accept that, just because the idea of a rocket as character intrigues me, though if you feel the need, a Change of avatar can be bestowed with a crucible piece, as an upgrade. So,sutternalt, you are accepted.

Ah, the bane of roleplaying. Responsibilities. Anyway I'm still working on the bio after deciding not to do Derphorse and abandoning a half done Alternity version of a Transformer. Fortress Maximus, in case you were curious, since he's the clear standout from all the cybertronians regularly linked to infinitely less cool flesh and blood characters. Well, him and Scorponok but he's hardly protagonist material.
