In relation to some of the earlier posts...when a GM is too polite to let me know when my character is too OP. Underplaying certain character in such and such ways always make them highly out of their original character...I do have other character ideas saved up, I hate being trapped with a character out of design even more!

An RP change from sandbox to fandom...when you signed up fir the sandbox, and know next to nothing of the fandom. You're always left feeling stupid.

As well...when your GM doesn't want you to do something, but skirts around the issue and tries to make it seem like what you're doing with your character is out of character. It's more rude than polite, I know and can take suggestion and criticism, but if you want something done or not done...just let me know! ARGH, please!

Yeah I'll do that, if that was at my rant. Characters quite often work in most my settings, and then they seem to be largely based towards combat. I won't skirt around it I'll go "Look, there won't be a lot of combat" (This is just an example, both Rps I am gming right now have their fair share of combat :L) "You can still fit in quite easily though, but you just need to know that." My problem is when they go "Yeah that's okay" then bitch about it later. It's like.

People who assume things during introductions. Recently I got accused of god modding a character after talking with my co-gm about how we're going to make this character flawed. Then this bloke parades in, throws accusations and ridiculous ideas in a realistic and so far logical rp, and it's only the introduction.

And charcters that do their own thing without sticking to the plot/story line.

People that aggressively try to overtake the OP original plot/story with their own.

this site is really starting to piss me off with it always shutting down like this constantly. It ruins the momentum of rps and I'm sure it has killed some as well.

One, let me apologize for a bump in this thread, but I felt like I should address this cause I have a good two cents about this matter. The thing I see with people who take the plot into their hands/don't follow a certain script can be either a direct result of the GM's not allowing their players to get into the main plot/being more open or indirectly of there not being enough opportunities for the players to get into it/having their own side-plots taking precedence. Not sure if this was what you were meaning, but yeah. If it wasn't, well then just consider that something that annoys me(the part about GMS not allowing people to get in on the main plot by making it so closed up that people have to make up extensive side-plots just to have something to post about).

Well I got something I need to bitch about. I'm gm'ing a fire emblem roleplay right now and a person made a character that lives on a small island, is a mage knight with dark magic basically, and supposively the group the character is from is from a miniature island that is somehow independent from the haildom of ylisse despite having no reason to be. It's just because they're some dark form of mage knights that they're independent. They closed off trade...closed off trade from the main land and have just recently started to reopen trade. So in case my ramblings are confusing the character is basically from a miniture island that has no trade contracts officially with a haildom for no real reason, is there to reopen trade, and the character is supposively an envoy like Emmeryn even needs to negotiate with these people. They offer nothing to the story. They're just there to exist. Likewise it pisses me off that the player accused me of not knowing how to roleplay correctly because I WANTED DIVERSITY...Yeah...I don't see how diversity is bad for a ROLEPLAYING game. And then the person...just leaves and says I'm not a very good gm...yep.

Luckily I haven't experienced this on this site yet, but; It pisses me off when a person derails an RP to chase after pity from others, or starts to incorporate their bad mood into their IC posts. The last RP I ever GM'd before using RPG again, I had the ball running and the OOC lit up with friendly discussion, but one guy was having some emotional issues and we all offered our support, went as far as to start PM'ing him, but he ignored them and told us in the OOC that it was a better place to vent for some reason. Anyway, eventually it became a daily affair to vent at us in OOC and around the same time his posts IC started to take a similar perspective. Suddenly his character become this lone-wolf type who was always unreasonably sad.

I have no personal gripes with the guy and I hope the best for him, but his conduct was quite childish. Especially considering I(and others, I'm sure) offered support away from the RP if all he wanted to do was vent. I honestly do not see the use in forming an association with your problems to a fun hobby such as RP by digging up issues during the time you've set aside for posting in the place that you post.

In my opinion you should always respect the person trying to help you out. Even if they don't get the problem solved they tried to help.

Right now, I have two complaints:

  • People who take their time to comment and complain -- without doing their research or even fully understanding the situation.
  • People who keep pinging you, nudging you or bothering you to start IC or respond AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!

That's about it for right now, otherwise, I'm happy as a bee when it comes to Roleplaying!

When people think Advanced is a place full of elitists when people there are actually quite friendly, just people that can write longer than most of RPG's userbase.

When people won't even look at your 1×1 thread cause you're a Free-Casual writer. I love writing. I wouldn't be here if I didn't. However I feel that a 1×1 RP is at its best when there's more wiggle room for people.

EDIT- Wow I could not have had worse timing with this post...

Another complaint this week, which is surprising, because I hardly find anything that upsets me with Roleplay. Maybe I'm just irritable this week. .

Anyway, I really hate it when certain Roleplayers sign up for your Roleplay and do a crap job and expect you to accept them. Now, I understand that there are very few people in the Roleplay populace who actually do this, but more or less, they sort of lure you in through pity or "I tried so hard!" for you accept them. Rhetorically speaking, you're soft-hearted like me and finally accept them and they either violate basic Roleplay etiquette, break the rules or never even post in the first place.

Also, I can't stand it when I have an OOC filled with people who are astonishing writers, but absolutely horrible with getting along with other members of the group. And I'm not necessarily talking about starting drama or fights, but passively-aggressively poking at each other. If I were to call them out on it, they'd both play innocent and if I were to kick them out, they'd complain to me about being unjust.

Greetings, fellow bitchers!

Posting tonight/this morning to complain about the lack of reliable writers actually searching for a new RP. The more reliable and active members of the guild seem to be occupied, while any who seem to be searching for something new will apply, join, post ONCE, then disappear. I was aware that this is a common problem, but not aware that it was THIS common.

My most recent RP had six people express interest in the interest check. Two of them actually joined the RP. One of them is currently active. Six other players joined through the OOC, and only three of them have posted more than once in four months. Those three people are also in a group together in-game, so all of their posts are collabs, leaving only three people--their group, the first mentioned player, and myself--as the posters. It's getting extremely frustrating trying to keep the RP moving and motivated when there are more people who have abandoned it than there are currently writing.

Well, it has been an extremely long time since I've actually let loose some steam about things that anger me. It was a few months back that I was involved in a roleplay which happened to be about demons who are working as a force for killing other demons. The GM told us he had to left, which is not what I am angry about. But, he told us that another player would be in control until he came back. Of course, we followed his lead and I waited for the replacement to post. About four days later, he finally posted. Yet, what pissed me off was when he yelled at us for not being active when the post he gave us did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to move the plot forward. All he did was make a sort of joke about the fact that demons were working for God and states that the GM's character left. Basically, we were stuck at a stand still because of the fact that he didn't contribute to moving on with the story because NOTHING HAPPENED.

Now, to the next subject. I was in a tabletop roleplay which was actually on the role. The setup was good and the stats system was easy to understand. All was going well and I was talking to one of the GM's who was running it about specialization skills for my character. Then, it all went silent. I heard nothing back from either of the GM's about my character and nobody else heard from them either. What really irked me was the fact that they disappeared right in the middle of a conversation about the roleplay. Nothing was said about them leaving and nothing really indicated that they would have. But, they just went silent and, after about four weeks, I just gave up along with everyone else. Basically, I am only angry because of the fact that they disappeared after having me and seven other people work on a character sheet. It wasn't even a 'We might be gone for a few days because of personal reasons' leaving; they quite simply up and disappeared.

I've joined more than a dozen games now in a few months, between an old site I used and this new one. They all died not because of the players but the GM. It's super frustrating as a player that the main person who created the RP and is supposed to host the game goes AWOL after a few "I will do it soon" or they don't have a good sense of pace and write posts that don't move the plot. I'm a committed player, I let fellow rpers know my posting schedule and roughly stick to it - or throw up a crappy post but at least it gets things going - I never join and leave unless the game gives me reason to, which is always that it's figuratively dying by the side of the road. I'm also not somebody who likes to sit around in character and talk about fillers with other chars; I can do that IRL with small talk; but it looks like plenty of players like that cup of tea.

It's demoralising. I just want a good game, dammit. It's not just in groups; happens in 1x1 too where I'm abandoned without cause or notice.
