Well, they really don't have much of a choice but to settle in for a time. Ships all busted to hell. But.... I have an idea regarding temporary employment to purchase a ship to return home or something How would that sound? Using your naval soldiers against a multitude of foes? Maybe hit those pirates back? Just want to bounce some ideas before I commit a post.

When I said its easy to get materials, I meant basic materials that you already know about. It all honesty its not that hard to identify a alloy or material you already know about, I am not talking about special materials that have some weird-ass properties like Eezo from ME. Even then those are probably man-made elements that you are creating your self.

That a Galactic Trade Network is unnecessary as it's easy to get your own materials.

Except for referenconium from the Andromeda RP, because apparently that only exists in supernovae which the Romans apparently completely and absolutely control because of course they do, and every planet which you demand it to be on (Mostly the ones you plan to conquer). You see, what Duck is getting at is the flawed idea that an economy wouldn't exist because stuff we consider valuable is everywhere and cheap. What he fails to understand is that the spices in his damn food were worth their weight in gold, and that economies actually change. There are new materials that are valuable, and the old ones are cheap as shit. He would know this if he was awake during any given World Civ class that involved any mention of Portugal.
That a Galactic Trade Network is unnecessary as it's easy to get your own materials.
Yeah, I'm sure Joe McNormalguy has his own fucking mining outpost and freighter that he uses to get everything he needs, including luxuries. It's not like THIS IS SPACE AND THERE ARE BILLIONS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF PLANTS THAT CAN BE USED FOR FOOD THAT CAN ONLY GROW ON A FEW PLANETS WITHOUT NEEDING BIOSPHERES, and I'm sure NOBODY has any interest whatsoever in anything that involves an alien culture. And I'll also bet that trade only means the transport of raw materials, yeah, nobody ever moves exotic foods ACROSS THE ENTIRE PLANET SO A BUNCH OF FOREIGNERS CAN EAT IT. Art doesn't exist either, and FORGET about technology! Nobody ever bought all of their game consoles exclusively from one country because they were ahead in the field, of course not! Every country also has every industry it needs in enough abundance to be self sufficient!

Economies do change, and spices are worth their weight in gold. However even new materials could still be easily found, or possibly manufactured with enough understanding of physics. Space is pretty big, their is millions of stars in the galaxy. It be fully possible to find new materials easily. Unless it's something only one nation knows how to create somehow, but even then that does not necessitate a galaxy wide trade network, that just necessitates a few freighters and trade deals here and there. I am not saying a economy would not exist, I am just saying it would be vastly different then how we understand them. And no referenconium was actually found on the Roman's homeworld, and most of it is located in their home system.

Well, in this RP, the parts I have control over, do have a trade network. If you do not wish to recognize this, I will not recognize you. Sounds fair.

JESUS CHRIST YOU HAVE WON THE ARGUMENT BUT THERE IS NO NEED TO YELL. STATE YOUR POINTS IN A CLEAR AND CONCISE MANNER WITHOUT USING CAPITALS, IT KINDS OF WEAKENS YOUR ARGUMENT.

You can have your trade network, before keyguy started yelling I was trying to say for most of us it would be unnecessary. And slaves are kind of unnecessary, robots are much cheaper.

Yes, because we all know how perfectly rational you are over Steam. Note to self: Add new rule "Duck can't criticize people using caps".
Economies do change, and spices are (*were) worth their weight in gold. However even new materials could still be easily found, or possibly manufactured with enough understanding of physics. Space is pretty big, their (*there) is (*are) millions of stars in the galaxy. It be (*is) fully possible to find new materials easily. Unless it's something only one nation knows how to create somehow, but even then that does not necessitate a galaxy wide trade network, that just necessitates a few freighters and trade deals here and there. I am not saying a (*an) economy would not exist, I am just saying it would be vastly different then (*than) how we understand them. And no referenconium was actually found on the Roman's homeworld, and most of it is located in their home system. (C- See me after class)
Okay, I'll just go with you radically changing everything you said as well as the fact that you just conveniently put a rare material in your home system and only your home system after specifically saying that anything could be found anywhere easily. Anyways, you're not allowed to call people out on any kind of realism anymore. None of your nations would ever function without mind control technology, AND YOU HAVE FUCKING PONIES, so you have no right to lecture someone on economics. That's going in the OP too: Duck can't call people out on being unrealistic. Besides, what problem do you have with a galactic trade network? You certainly didn't have a problem with it when he first joined.

First off, I never asked, nor need your approval to "have your trade network." Secondly, some times its wise to not type a point that will potentially frustrate others. Why ruin a perfectly good idea because you find it to be flawed. And with slaves.. If you do not want biological slaves, don't buy them! I'm actually starting to wonder if you read what you type before posting. So here is a protip; always look at all sides before being difficult about something. How can ponies be a viable naval power using starships. What if there is a leak or something and no magic unicorn ponies are around. How do they precisely position plates and weld them.. Or turn a wrench etc. Do i argue that? Do I say its impossible? ..no. I roll with it. (I do however find mlp to be a retarded addition but.. Once more, I roll with it.) This is the last I will post regarding this.

I don't have a problem with it at all, its just not going to be as big as he keeps on trying to make it out. And no, I didn't radically change the location of the material, and I have no clue where you are getting the supernova thing from it, and it is actually a disadvantage having it my home system considering most of said system is controlled by the Abh and any battle there would probably result in the destruction. That and notice how I said most of it was inside that one system, you can still find shit tons outside of it.

I suppose it would depend on how common and advanced the robotics tech is that is available to the species I would have thought robots would just be insufficient for some tasks; No one ever said you'd just use slaves for heavy manual labour... And some people could simply be uncomfortable employing robots for certain tasks...

No, because a robot isn't going to become exceptionally inefficient when it's stricken with disease or injured, it can work contentiously without pause (at least for a set duration; mechanical degradation will, eventually, put it into the maintenance shop) and it won't launch rebellions that can potentially bring your empire to the brink of collapse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Servile_Wars). Slavery might be viable as a stop-gap measure for a conquering army that needs to construct a land-side facility of some sort in a hurry, but a faction that relies on slave labor for its production needs will be out-performed by a faction that utilizes extensive automation. In the case of legitimate paid workers, a robot won't go on strike, it won't call off of work for petty reasons and it won't steal company property. You save a gargantuan amount of financial capital by decreasing the human presence in the production area. Read this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automation There's a reason Japan owns 50 percent of the world's factory automatons. Automation is just better.
