Legend: The Legend of the Wyrmslayer
He is known across the land as the 'Wyrmslayer', for his deed of killing the mighty Ice Dragon of the Northern Kingdoms, a scourge that had been kidnapping young children throughout the land. One day, the foul creature decided to kidnapp the sister of a young farm boy, who immediately got on the nearest horse and road of after the mighty beast. He rode on for days, through the foothills, up the steep slopes of the mountains, and through the frigid, blizzarding wastes near the peaks, never faltering as he approached the wyrm's lair. The beast was waiting for him, it's shining hide glittering like diamonds in the harsh sunlight as it approached, radiating such an intense aura of freezing cold that it set the boys teeth a chattering with only a glare. And if that wasn't enough to frighten him, the cave was littered with the remains of the dragon's previous challengers, all knights and mages of greater skill and power than a mere farm boy. And yet, even in the face of this adversity, the boy refused to give up, adamant to see his sister safely returned. With a mighty roar, he charged the dragon. And then began his true trial, for the dragon didn't find him a threat in the slightest, and simply bat him away with tail, again and again, sending him soaring into the wall.
With each slam he suffered greater and greater wounds, yet he kept on getting up, through sheer force of will he pressed on. And in time, his efforts were rewarded, and his cleverness tested. It was clwar very soon in the encounter that the beast was much stronger than he ever could be, so the boy used that against the beast strength against it, having it slam him into certain spots in the cave that would loosen the huge icicles above, until finally, on the 15th strike, a hail of icicles fell upon them both. The boy barely avoided being impaled, but the dragon wasn't so lucky. It survived the icy projectiles, but found it's wings and limbs effectively pinned. He summoned all of the strength he had left to bring his battered body over to the head of the beast, staring it in the eyes, before he raised up an icicle from the ground and stabbed it into the beast's eye, effectively purging the scourge of the land from this plane of existance. It is said that the beast corpse burst into IcenFire and swelled into him as a reward for his trual by the gods above, to wield the dragon's breath against his enemies.
However, this legend doesn't end happily. The sister he had come to save had already been devoured long before he reached the cavem the only thung remainung of her beung the iced over bones of her corpse. This left Aiddn a broken soul, and after the knights sent uo to slay the dragon found him and returned him to civilization, he vanished, no one hearing anymore tales of him, but this only served to further his story, leaving the world to speculate and wonder what became of the boy who slayed a dragon.
Appearence Picture:Appearence: Personality: Aiden is a calm, yet sociable guy who enjoys the simpler things in life. He's modest to the point where he always sells himself short, never really feeling like he does enough to earn any form of praise. He can also be a bit depressive at times, often lost in thought about how his life usec to be . . . and how much he wished it coukd be that way again. Aiden lives for others, always willing to lend a hand to those in need, especially the common folk, and never asks for as much as a copper for his deeds.
Skills: Foraging(Journeyman): A skill that he learned during his time on the road, he knows the best places to find nature's bounty, able to live of the land and find ingredients for basic potions and what not.
Hunting(Apprentice): This translate into him being average at tracking most animals, a skill one has to learn when traveling so that they don't go hungry more often than not.
Weave Magic(Expert): Having learned magic first from his father, then through his own study in his travels, Aiden has become a highly skilled user of Weave Magic. He's also very knowledgeable on the subject, able to answer most people's questions about it. His magical stamina has grown to very large through his constant use of it, making it so that he can cast a fair number of spells without tiring to greatly.
Weapon's Mastery(Apprentice): Due to his ability, Aiden is able to become decently skilled with any weapon he comes across within a few days to about a week. This gives him a large arsenal to choose from, but he's found that their are a few weapons that he prefers over others, which will be listed separately from this as they surpass the Apprentice skill level.
Polearm Maestery(Expert): Aiden is very much skilled in using melee weapons that have a fair bit of range to them, his favorite being the Nagianta, though he's also more than capable with spears, tridents, lances, etc.
Dual Shortsword Mastery(Journeyman):For those moments when the enemies are too fast to deal with using his weapon of choice, his use of two short swords makes for a solid defense and an even better attack. While no master of blades, he's still better than the common man, able to lash out with a quick barrage of slashes to deal with most foes.
Throwing Knife Mastery(Journeyman): A skill he picked up quicker than usual, his ability to analyze quickly and without fail makes it so that any enemy that he aims at with one of his numerous throwing blades is definitely going to feel some pain. He aims for weak points, but he isn't yet skilled enough so that he always hit's his mark right where he wants to, only that he always hits his mark.
Endurance(Master): An odd trait for a mage of any caliber to excel at, Aiden has incredible staying power and durability, able to take a beating and keep on kicking long after most people would give into the pain.
Intelligence/Cunning(Master): Aiden is a very smart individual, and it shows through his ability to quickly analyze most situations, in the hopes of turning any information he gathers to his favor. This makes it so that it an be rather hard to hide secrets from him at times when his suspicions are raised.
Riding(Journeyman): As a wandering mage, he has found that it's a lot better to ride to places rather than walk, easier on the feet and whatnot. While he wouldn't make the claim that he's the best rider alive, he's pretty good and is able to fight from the back of any mount with the use of his favored weapon, the Naginata.
Combat Flaws: As a mage, Aiden excels at fighting his enemies at mid-range, and decent enough when facing them at close range. When up against enemies that are able to keep their distance, like archers, he doesn't have much in his arsenal for dealing with them. Mix this in with his inability to dodge pretty much anything unless it moves at the speed of sandwich, and it makes it so that when in a battle against archers, Aiden is not the one that you'd call for to back you up. He can shoot a few bolts of fire and lightning at them, but his aim very much suffers at long distances due to the fact that he has a moderate case of near-sighted ness, hence why he never partakes in use of a bow despite the fact that he could easily become capable of using one.
Personality Flaws: Aiden's main personality problems are a lack of self-worth and his willingness to put help others, even when it severe unwise for him to do so. He sees himself as less than nothing, and yet tries to prove himself to himself by living for others instead of himself, which makes for an unhealthy combination. He also becomes very depressive when ever he's by himself, even to the point of being suicidal at times. He's always focused on things he did wrong and who he couldn't save, instead of what he does right, or the many that he has saved and assisted.
Magic Spells: Icen Fire: Hardly used due to the association with the legend, it is basically fire that freezes instead of burns, yet can still spread like normal fire. The cold is concentrated, making it good for not only for use directly against people, but weakening armors and weapons by causing a rapid shift in temperature that is likely to shatter the metal.
Basic Elemental Spells: Aiden knows a single attack spell for the elements of Lightning, Fire, Water, Wind, Ice, and Earth. Lightning and Fire come in a bolt form that is best used for long distance(his only spells useful in that regard), Water and Wind come in the forms of blades that he launches at his foes, or uses to defend against an attack while unarmed. These are his most used offensive spells. Ice and Earth are best in Close Range combat, as they are spikes that shoot up from the ground, about 2-3 feet in height. Can also be used to make quick cover when need be.
Moderate Healing: A support spell that heals small wounds instantly, moderate wounds over a period of time and not always completely, and fatal wounds can only be stabilized.
Sense Life: A utility spell that can be used like a sort of radar to sense if any living beings are in your immediate area, and can be used to point one in the direction of a specific target if they are with in 3 miles of the user.
Item Repair: A very useful spell, it allows one to repair an item to near pristine condition, almost as good as new.
Weaken disease: As it states, this spell weakens diseases, and while unable to cure them, it makes them more susceptible to medicines and keeps the worst of the symptoms from effecting the afflicted as long as it is applied on a weekly basis.
Wall of Earth: As one who is bad at dealing with ranged type enemies, this is a spell that is definitely very useful, creating a 4-foot by 4 foot tall wall of rock to take cover in.
Abilities: Legendary Endurance: Dragon Hide: Skin becomes as tough as Dragon Scales, making him highly resistant to most forms of damage, his skin being more resilient than that of an ogre. This makes it so that if someone really wants to hurt him, they better but some force into it.
Built for the Cold: Isn't affected by cold weather, magics, or environments.
Legendary Cunning:Instant Analysis: Can analyze something, be it how to use magic or a weapon, and find the weakness in it.
Quick on the uptake: Is able to quickly learn new things to an acceptable level, but mastery takes time
Empathetic Understanding: This ability allows him to connect with people on a emotional level and more easily see things from their point of view.
Backstory: Aiden lived in the northern foothills, eking out a living with his father and sister by farming the land. His father had been a former mage of the royal court of Ziore, a position he lost when he fell in love with Aiden's mother, who was a member of the Fallenrun Royal family and bethrothed to another, so Aiden did have some magical training since childhood, mostly utility spells to make his life easier. However, when he was around 16 years old, his family received a visit from the rumored Frost Dragon. In actuality, it was a griffin, but it's feathers were very scale-like in their appearance, which was probably the source of the confusion. That and the fact that it struck without warning from the skies, jetting off into the sky with it's prey before one can even blink.
The Griffin killed Aiden's father before he could utter any spells by slashing his throat with a claw then took his sister, Melody, into the sky, leaving Aiden by himself with his father dying in his arms. For a second, despair gripped his entire being, leaving him cold, and yet . . .deep within him burned a fire, a call for both vengeance and Determination. Getting on the family horse, he rode off in the direction the griffin had fled. He would ride through the foothills with a wild abandon, his first horse dying from exhaustion after awhile and forcing him to steal another one to go the rest of the way to the mountain range where the dragon was rumored to dwell.
Aiden was armed with nothing but his wits as he faced the mountain, a boy of a mere sixteen years of age facing off against the harrowing climb of the mountains. Despite the challenge presented against him, he still pressed on, nearly freezing to death several times as he climbed higher and higher, making prayers to Silv to give him the strength to avenge his father. His greatest assets on the mountain however, was his cleverness, as he took to following bands of wolves to find the remains of their meals to scavenge off of, using the skins of the beast to provide moderate protection from the cold. In total, the climb to the griffin's lair took him ten days to complete and by the end of it, Aiden felt exhausted and on the verge of collapse, and yet he still pushed onward.
This in turn would help him survive his next trial, as the moment he reached the lair, he was faced with the angered form of the griffin, unleashing a mighty shriek as it charged at him. Thankfully, since the lair was a cave, the beast wasn't able to take flight, allowing Aiden to accurately avoid the beast's charge. What filled next was a game of cat and mouse, as the griffin chased after him through the depths of the cavern, slashing at him with his claws. While he suffered some wounds, none were fatal, almost as if the creature wasn't trying to kill him, only scare him off.
This was where the legend bares some truth, as his mind quickly pieced together the flaws in the ice and, with the assistance of a well placed fire spell, brought a large amount of icicles down on the griffin. The beast managed to avoid enough of them so that it wasn't killed, but it was pretty much crippled in it's legs and suffering from punctures in it's wing.
After felling the beast in this way, Aiden prepared to finish it off with a rusty sword that one of the previous challengers to the beast had wielded, the broken blade still sharp enough to deal with a crippled beast. All the anger and rage filled him up as he raised the blade over his head, when a sharp cry stopped him. Looking towards the source of the sound, he saw that another griffin resided in the cave, this one seeming to be weakened by disease, dulling it's plumage and hobbling it's gait. But it's eyes remained bright as they glared at Aiden, and as Aiden stared into the beast's eyes, he saw himself as it saw him. He was an intruder who had come to murder her mate, who had been bringing her food for months from the foothills to feed her in order to keep her healthy, but it wasn't enough, the sickness was slowly eating her away.
Aiden felt his anger and hatred melt away, no longer finding it in him to kill these creatures. The male that he had fought was only trying to take care of his mate, something he couldn't fault him for. In the end, Aiden set to freeing the male from his entrapment, then using magic to heal him and his mate, though he couldn't do much more than weaken her sickness. After that, he left the lair, seeing the two griffins fly off deeper into the mountains, seeming to decide against further human contact.
He walked down the mountain feeling worse than useless, not being able to save nor even avenge his father and sister, and would've likely died on that mountain if he wasn't found by a group of Analil worshippers. They took care of him for a week as he recuperated from the ordeal, both physically and mentally. While he recovered, he discovered that hi body seemed much more resilient than before, and that he was able to find flaws in everything with remarkable ease. "A gift from Jergal as a testament to you valors" was what one of the worshippers told him when he asked them about it, and while he felt slightly honored, he wished the god could've have given him back his family instead. As soon as he was able, he left the lone monastery where they resided with a new mission in mind. He'd travel the lands and help whoever he could as best he could, in order to atone for his failure. He'd then spent the next nine years traveling the land, helping people in need and doing his best to avoid the legend of the Wyrmslayer, which seemed to spring up over night, though the lack of specifics helped in that regard immensely. He would eventually travel beyond the north, passing through all of the kingdoms at least once in his quest to help the less fortunate, and for his pursuit in learning more magic, as he found that engrossing himself in such things helped him keep his mind of his past.
His current location is somewhere in the central kingdom of Negotia.
