Name: Ryuugi Tanizaki.
Age: 18.
Grade (1st/2nd/3rd year): 3rd year.

Disability: Traumatic head injury causing: Tremors in arms and legs/motor difficulties, cognitional difficulties (emotional and intellectual damage), exploding head syndrome, insomnia.

Personality: Ryuugi is the kind of person a good mother would not want to have her little girl interact with. Ever since his disability, he has been on the teachers' list of delinquents. While the persistent teachers might still try to turn him around, a lot of other teachers have always written him off as a lost case, rather focusing on the ones not wasting their time. Simply put, Ryuugi has major issues with authority, something which has brought him close to suspension several times before.

He has a rather cynical view on the world, mostly towards his own future and the inevitable futility of it all. At first sight, he is rude, snide and sarcastic. Often rash and distant, he isn't the type of person to say what is really on his mind, rather choosing to keep strangers at a distance. He has become a bitter person, angered at the unfairness of life, something that Yamaku reminds him of every single day. He cares not for his education or his future, instead wasting his time being a pain in the ass to Yamaku's staff and others.

At his core however, Ryuugi still wishes to help other people, failing to see that he himself is the first person he should help. To his (few) friends, Ryuugi is fiercely loyal and devoted. He would be willing to walk through fire it meant helping them. Once he finds his motivation, he can be extremely passionate and driven toward his goals. Currently however, he is too bitter to be motivated for much. That being said, he puts a lot of value in his own set of morals, as twisted or loose as they might be.
He still loves to joke around with his friends and have fun, rather, that is mostly one of his only goals at the moment.

Background: In his youth, Ryuugi was always diligent student. He wasn't exactly the type to spend all day behind the books to get eh best score, but his talent nonetheless earned him a spot in the top achievers of the the class year after year. Most of his youth up until the end of elementary school was uneventful. One day when returning home from a trip however, the car with his father, mother and younger sister was crashed into by a supposedly drunk driver.

While his injuries were severe, as were those of his parents, after a long time spent in the hospital, Ryuugi emerged with no real permanent injuries. From that day onward, Ryuugi vowed to become a doctor, realizing how close he and his family had gotten to death and who had helped him avoid such a fate. Most of his spare time was now devoted to realizing this goal, hoping to one day pass the heavy tests and enter college and start his doctor's education in earnest.

Fate did not agree with Ryuugi however. Due to the crisis, his father lost his job, subsequently starting drinking. After that, his home became less and less of a desirable place to be as his parents frequently got into fights, and his father was an aggressive drunk. A divorce seemed unavoidable. Most of the time either his mother and father would be arguing, or his father would be passed out drunk somewhere. It's no surprise that he rather sought refuge in the city and his friends, as his parents hardly minded or even noticed his absence during most o the day and evening, solely returning home to eat and sleep.

One night, his father was in a worse state than normal, entering Ryuugi's room to take out his frustrations. In his violent, drunken outburst, Ryuugi's father smashed a bottle on his son's head, causing permanent head trauma. Only after a whole day of close observation in the hospital did Ryuugi regain his consciousness, and did it became clear how severe his injury really was. His recovery took several months, as he had suffered brain damage enough to require him to relearn much of how to talk and how to get his body to more properly again.

Ryuugi would never fully recover, the damage to his head causing motor issues such as tremors often associated with Parkinson's disease and a loss to memorize new information quickly. This meant that he would never see his dream of becoming a doctor fulfilled. The irony that alcohol both gave him the dream of becoming a doctor and snatched it away right from under him, was not lost on Ryuugi.
In addition to his other lasting disabilities, he suffers from exploding head syndrome. At random intervals, he may suddenly suffer an extremely loud noise inside of his head, akin to an explosion or a gun firing. Much of his personality had changed after the injury as well, turning from a cheerful, optimistic young man into a bitter, cynical adolescent. His parents and doctors remain unclear if the change in his personality was a result of his injury, or if the loss of his dream fundamentally changed him.

Unable to make up for the time he lost, Ryuugi was set back a year after being released from the hospital, losing most of his friends in the process. His motivation for studying was completely gone. Instead they would find him skipping classes and even getting into the occasional fight, much to the dismay of his parents and the teachers, whom had never known him to do such. After only just managing to pass his classes and just barely avoiding suspension, his parents came up with the alternative of Yamaku, a school for disabled students.

The primary reason why Ryuugi agreed to said proposition was not because he thought it would help him back on the right track. Rather, he took the chance to live in Yamaku's dorms, away from his parents, and more specifically his father. While his father has since given up drinking and the accident even seemed to have brought him closer to his wife, Ryuugi has obviously not yet forgiven him.
Currently, his time in Yamaku has been as harsh for him as the time before. Ryuugi refuses most help of the staff, continuing his delinquent ways of skipping class and stirring up trouble, already earning him a reputation.

Other Info:
- Despite his delinquent nature, he has a very firm distaste of alcohol.
- He loves to listen to Jazz an classical music.
- He is absolutely terrible with computers and most technology, barely managing to work with a phone.

5'9", slim but slightly fit build.
Name: Maksim Kato
Age: Seventeen
Grade (1st/2nd/3rd year): Third year
Disability: Near-blind. Can see colors and changes in light, somewhat able to make out figures.
Personality: Maksim is and odd and monotone boy. Between his expression typically being blank and his voice having little to no inflection, he can be quite hard to read. Do not take this as disinterest though, he's actually a bit of a people person. There's always something on his mind, and he's often willing to share, whether you can actually figure out what he's trying to say or not... Different story entirely. At heart, Maksim is very empathetic, despite his apathetic appearances. Willing to do just about anything to help one in need, he's a good friend to have, and will treasure any help in return.
Background: Maksim was born 6 weeks prematurely to a Japanese father and a Russian mother. As Maksim grew, his vision depreciated severely. Even with travelling back and forth between Moskow and Osaka, his parents could not find a doctor that understood why the boy's sight was worsening so quickly, just that his eyes may not have properly developed in utero.

Although both parents being fairly stressed by their son's impairment, it didn't seem to bother Maksim. He was always a very level headed child, and he was able to get on fine with a thick pair of glasses. The more years went on, the less Maksim was able to see. It was getting harder and harder for him to make it through public schools and get along with other students. His glasses and constant fumbles made him an easy target, and the constant teasing pushed Maksim to be a bit of a shut-in.

After much discussion, the Katos decided the best thing they could do for their son was to send him to Yamaku. Perhaps the only school that could truly accept Maksim, help him learn to live with what little vision he has left, and prepare him for the inevitable total blindness to follow.
Other Info: Out of all his available senses, touch is Maksim's favorite. Constantly feeling things, he's developed preferences in sensations. This carries over to his current hobby, art. Despite not being able to really see what he's creating, Maksim sculpts clay into shapes that "feel" beautiful. Taste being a close second, he has a weakness for flavored teas and sweets.

Name: Kirihara Hana

Age:15

Grade (1st/2nd/3rd year): 1st Year

Disability: Deaf and Mute

Personality: Hana is a serious yet well-mannered girl. She is not really extroverted enough where she would go out of her way to make new friends, but she will talk to anyone who wishes to talk to her. However, she is often viewed by her peers as insincere or cold. She's confused as to why that is and is trying to work on that so she can make the friends her parents always wanted her to have. She often spends her time in the library, reading and studying, or in her room to take care of her dolls.

Background: When Hana was born, her parents sensed that something was wrong. After a few tests at the hospital, it was discovered that Hana was born deaf much to the dismay of her parents. She was their first and only child and the fact that she was born imperfectly was heartbreaking. While they have showered her with gifts such as cute clothes and dolls and have been exceptionally good parents to her, she could still feel their disappointment but cannot do anything about it. Her parents also learned how to communicate in sign language so they could help teach her how to sign as well. For most of her childhood, she was home schooled after a failed attempt of joining a regular preschool. Eventually when she became old enough, she enrolled into Yamaku Academy to be with others like her. Her parents hope that she will make new friends and have a fulfilled life while Hana only wants to make her parents happy.

Other Info:
Because she was born without her hearing, she values her eyesight. She loves to look at all things beautiful and surround herself with beautiful things.
To help communicate with people who do not know sign language, she carries a white board and marker to write what she wants to communicate with them and allows other to write on it as well.
She owns an extensive doll collections and treasure them as if they were her own children.

Appearance : Link
Name/nickname : Suna Kumoshita
Gender : Male
Grade, age : 1st Year, 16
Disability : Narcolepsy

Personality:
Suna is an easygoing and carefree youth. Despite that, he's quite the hard one to faze, and takes everything in stride with an assuring smile on his face. When it comes to a win-loss situation he is fairly pragmatic, although not completely selfish. He loves high places more than monkeys and has a fascination towards aviation.

Treating his condition as something not worth going to Yamaku for, Suna still feels out of place and disconnected with the more impaired of the students, as well as his general circumstances. It may take a while before he could socialize normally with the other students.

Suna is a bit on the short side, and is quite youthful in appearance, perhaps slightly overly so. Bringing either point into the discussion might put him in a bad mood. Has an odd respect towards old people in general. He has a slight weirdness with the caring types, in which he did not want people to trouble themselves over him; this goes double in Yamaku, where he views that other people have bigger worries than doing him a favor.

Background:
Suna was born with the condition. In his early years the disorder went undiagnosed, and his parents dismissed his daytime sleep attacks as part of normal stages of growth. In elementary school, Suna's narcolepsy put him in an academically bad spot because it was miscontrued as sleeping in the class; this led to him disliking schools in general, which leads to a negative loop of bad grades. It was not until the third year of elementary school when a collapse caused by his condition led him into a traffic accident. After two months in the hospital, Suna was discharged, fortunately without any permanent damage. His condition was also diagnosed and explained to his parents and the school administration.

From then he was leading a fairly normal life, with him treating his disorder as a hindering annoyance. He entered middle school, and got along well with the students there despite his condition. The teachers also tolerated his 'sleeping' in class as long as he made up for it with his grades, which he did. Suna gained a newfound appreciation to learning and art, which his condition doesn't completely botch. Secretly worrying that a similar accident might occur, his parents agree that he was to enter Yamaku after he graduated from middle school. He was kept in the dark until a year before his graduation.

Naturally, Suna was dissapointed upon faced with the one-sided decision. He had wanted to go to the same school as his peers, and being clumped in with the 'disabled' dissatisfied him in more ways than one. But his parents was firm in their decision, and thus his life began at the academy.

Additional Info:

  • Often spends his free time observing his surrounding. He's taken into drawing and try to replicate what he saw. His skills aren't that good but it's one he's fairly satisfied with.
  • Despite having lived a fairly carefree life, Suna has a lot of bad dreams. The doctors said it has something to do with his condition.
  • Strong bursts of emotion can trigger his condition and cause sudden weaknesses or complete collapse. Despite his cheery, easygoing exterior he's quite hard to faze.

Name:
Kitagawa Sayuri

Gender:
Female

Grade/Age:
1st Year/16

Disability:
Spinocerebellar Ataxia

Personality:
Sayuri is a kind girl who is always quick with a smile, however her good-cheer, while mostly genuine, can sometimes be a shield between herself and unpleasant situations. She tends to force optimism rather than confront reality.

Background:
Sayuri was born into a family of musical prodigies. Her father was a talented violinist while her mother was known nationwide as a master concert pianist. Naturally she and her siblings shared their parent's passion for music and even shared their talent. Sayuri was drawn to the piano and, under her mother's proud tutelage, blossomed. At the age of seven she had already won awards for her playing and it was said that she had the potential to surpass even her mother. As Sayuri entered her early teens, however, things began to go wrong. She began to suffer slight losses in motor control, namely in her legs. These quickly spread to her arms and hands as well and affected her ability to play the piano. She was taken to several doctors and was finally diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Ataxia, a degenerative disease that would destroy her ability to move her muscles, further disrupt her motor-control and finally damage her organs. Eventually she would die as her organs shut down, and her dream of playing the piano was all but dead already. Whenever she tried, her weakening fingers would stumble over the keys that she could once make sing. She decided that she would never again touch another piano. As her condition worsened she was eventually bound to a wheelchair, this coincided with her graduation from middle school, and so her family had her enrolled in Yamaku, where she has been since.

Additional Info:
Sayuri was once a musical prodigy who received the best education money could buy resulting in a highly intelligent girl with a great musical aptitude. She is also an excellent singer.

Appearance:

Name/nickname: Sakura Tasabara
Gender: Female
Grade (1st/2nd/3rd year) + age: 2nd year, 16 years.
Disability: Epilepsy.

Personality: Sakura is very energetic, maybe even extremely so. She's willing to face any challenge life dares to throw at her, desiring to overcome it again and again. Her ambitions know few limits, as it is her desire to become the best at whatever she sets her mind to. Most of all, more than being disciplined or following school rules, she values motivation, no matter what the goal of that motivation is. Using any means necessary, she wishes to whip the students of Yamaku into shape and get out of their depressions and lifelessness. To Sakura, the most beautiful thing a person can posses is aspiration and ambition, no matter in which form.

In addition to that, she is a strange mixture of optimistic, perfectionistic and caring. She's used to wielding authority, and will not be afraid to (ab)use it. Her temper is something to be feared as well, as she will not hesitate to raise her voice or even used force when pushed over the edge. She uses people in her plans, unafraid to boss them around when needed. She's relentless and tenacious, which shows in both her academical and athletic abilities.
Background:
As the sole daughter of a somewhat more wealthy family, Sakura had nearly everything she wanted. As such, her youth was somewhat uneventful. The only regret she had in her youth, was never seeing her father much, who always focused on his career rather than his family. This left Sakura without a proper father figure in her youth. To this end, she always acted more dominant than most other females, even described boy'ish when she was young and in kindergarden.

It was around this time that her condition began to show its signs. From muscles behaving erratically to convulsions and collapsing, she was quickly diagnosed with epilepsy. She was able to continue with her normal life for the most part, as long as she took her medication regularly. Not even once did she let her disability get her down, ever the energetic and playful person that she was.

At the end of elementary, her life was drastically influenced by the sudden death of her father in a company accident. From her mother, she learned that her father had always been working himself to near death in order to give Sakura all the chances she would need in life, knowing that she had the talent to become whatever she put her mind to. Despite Sakura not agreeing with his sacrifice, she would not let it be in vain, vowing to live her life to the fullest in his name.

Following that however, Sakura's condition worsened, the medication had less effect and her convulsions returned. Her mother decided that it was best if Sakura continued her education under closer supervision of medical staff, who would be able to deal with Sakura if she was under the effects of another epileptic seizure.

Recently, Sakura managed to win the elections to become Yamaku's new student council president, as well as being class representative. Her outstanding grades, energetic charm, authority and impressive athletic abilities made it easy for her to convince the student body to vote for her. She's willingly taken on this role and instantly attempted to use it to the best of her abilities, seeing plenty wrong with Yamaku as it is now. With such a rigid and vigilant care for the disabled students though, she found it hard to make any drastic changes.

Nonetheless, she does her best to motivate the students of Yamaku into living their lives to their fullest as she does, stirring up their feelings for upcoming events, holding speeches before class or going so far as to make unannounced visits to clubs and classes for inspection or even submitting them to tests to prove their dedication or creativity in extreme situations. This has given her a mixed reputation, from feared and admired among the students to a nuisance and an example among the teachers.

Additional Info:
- Sakura often speaks in a very loud voice, not only to flaunt her authority, but also to reach the students with bad hearing easily (or so she claims).

Amputated right leg

Panic Disorder
A type of anxiety disorder that affects both adults and children, panic disorders lead to several, recurrent panic attacks. Most of these attacks are sudden and are triggered off without any warning. Common symptoms include intense anxiety, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, trembling and a feeling of intense, uncontrollable fear.

History

Rikka was born with a panic disorder making her tremble in fear for the tiniest things, when the panic attacks happened she Just layed down onto the ground and starting to cry of fear. Of course they had solutions for her problem. Well at least to make her problems less. The medications they had for her didn't work very well however, it would mostly stop the panic attacks but it had some nasty side effects that she wouldn't risk it for. Since the medication wasn't perfect she got some others. They gave her some experimental drugs, It worked very well but her brain asked for more and more, she would keep using it till she felt out of this world, what wasn't necessarily the best thing. After her heart almost stopped working twice in the same week they had decided to stop with the experimental medecation.

She got bullied for not attending class much because of her panic disorder. Which made her talk to the principal about a alternative solution. She was placed into a special class on her school were people that weren't exactly normal were kept. The lessons would go slower it would be repeated a lot more and the teachers would keep an eye out for the ones that had their own problems. She however hated this class and didn't want to attend it anymore since it was a little to slow for her taste. So her parent filled in an application for another school where she might be seen more normal.

Walking towards a new life and a new school she got hit by a car accident. She found herself in the hospital with one of her lower legs completely shattered to pieces. It got crushed to pieces by the cars and needed to be amputated right away to attempt to not make it any worse. The amputation was succesfull and she could quickly leave the hospital with a wheelchair. She got used to a wheelchair and not long she tried to learn to walk once again with a brand new high tech prosthetic for replacement, she would wear knee socks everyday just to keep the ugly thing out of sight. After a short while she would attended school again with no luck. Rumors would go around and she got bullied already in the first week. She got transfered again to a special school for disabled children for 24/7 help. Of course she also hoped that she could make some new friends in this school.

Personality

She can be rather cheerful around other but doesn't like to go out onto the streets much because of her accident. She runs sometimes with a special made prosthetic to keep herself healthy. Her panic attacks makes her want to be alone at times making it difficult to interact with certain people in general.

Further Information

You can hear her prosthetics slightly moving because it is computer controlled but it can almost not be seen through her knee socks.
Her Panic attacks occur more frequently when she is near moving traffic
Her prosthetic is highly advanced but her parents still couldn't afford more than possible.

Name:
Hayabusa Kenshi

Age:
15, Second Year

Disability:
Multiple prosaic limbs (left leg, right hand and right kneecap), blind in left eye

Personality:
Kenshi is diligent and very handworking, especially when it comes to kendo. He often appears cold or apathetic to others and as some tsundere tendencies. Prone to rage fits and outbursts, he hates people who insult family or people who are overall jerks. His work as the Disciplinary Chairman only cements his serious attitude and no nonsense demeanor.

He also has a "kinder" side which involves him being a NEET more or less, binge watching anime and playing games. Despite outcry from some teachers and adults, his grades still remain at a good level so he gets away with it.

Biography:
Kenshi's father died to a chronic illness when he was only five, telling him to "be strong and protect your little sister and mom". Taking those words to heart, he decided that kendo would be the best way to protect his mom and little sister, Yui. He maintained good grades as he went to daily lessons at the local dojo and rose to a respectable position in it. When he was 11, he had met Arisaka Touka at the dojo and the two instantly fell in love with each other, training togther in pairs and going out on dates on the weekends.

Unfortuantely, when Kenshi was 14, his good fortune took a change. As he, Touka and Yui were going out to an amusemnt park (his mother was working late and asked the two to keep Yui entertained), they were attack by muggers. Despite bravely defeating them, all three of them were worse for wear. Kenshi took the brunt of the damage, being stabbed multiple times including once in the eye and blacked out. Yui was covered in bruises and had her arm broken but would live. Touka was stabbed at least once and was knocked out cold.

Three days later he would wake up in a hospital, he discovered that his former girlfriend had lost her memory, forgetting who Kenshi was outside of a classmate. Devistated, he mourned as if they had both died, seeing both Touka and Yui as symbols of his failure to protect them. He remembered his father's words and how he had failed him, promising to get stronger no matter what. Since then, he has been living with his uncle and aunt so he doesn't have to face his mother and sister, attending both mental and physical therapy, picking up martial arts along side his kendo and transferring to Yamaku Academy in hopes of starting anew.

Misc Info:
- He spends a huge amount of energy and time on kendo and martial arts, despite the fact he often manages to injure himself as he hasn't quite got his balance or grip with his new limbs.
- He named his Bokkun (wooden kendo sword), "Blade of Hope" as it was a gift from his uncle who gave it to him as to try and cheer him up. Has the family crest stamped into the handle
- Secretly writes a light novel series known as "Watashi wa genjitsu no sekai de tachiōjō fantajī no hīrōdesu" (Watachji Hirodesu), meaning "I'm a fantasy hero stuck in the real world", under the the pen name "Seto Karashi". The story follows a group of fantasy RPG characters who are taken out of their game and force to live in the real world with much of the story them trying to adapt to modern technology and life while trying to get promoted at their work, McJangles. Has a sizable following (Think a combination of The Devil is a Part Timer and a reversed SAO or Log Horizon).
- More to come later.
