Full Name: Anonymity is crucial in this particular field, and as far as anyone is aware, Doctor Estee's name is actually Doctor Estee. Those that dig deep, deep enough to find birth records, deep enough to know that Estee is protecting their identity, will stumble upon the true identity of the good Doctor. That name, known by Estee and a very tiny amount of trustworthy sorts, is
Atrione Cartier. Known as 'Tree' or 'Tri' to those very, very select few who know the truth and are still living - also known as friends. Close ones. Ones that come around every decade or two.
Age: Age is simply a number, it's meaningless in the grand scheme of things and Doctor Estee has more important things to worry about than growing older. Doctor Estee is ageless. Doctor Estee always has been around, always will be around. Ask anyone who knows anything about the Doctor, they'll tell you. Estee is immortal. Eternal. However, Atrione Cartier
does age, and the age of Atrione Cartier is
twenty-nine. A really, really young looking twenty-nine.
Race: Race, another way to divide the great nation made up of individuals. What does race matter, what makes one stand out from the others? So many put such a stock in race, was race the reason why the Tindrel were enslaved? Is race what makes the Scyvi such a rarity? Race is what caused that terrible war with the Rahtu, isn't it? Race is nothing but a way for everyone to treat each other differently. Doctor Estee isn't about that. Doctor Estee has no face, no discernible features, a real ghost, bound not by race. If someone wants race, look to Atrione Cartier, a shining example of a good
human. And then look to yourself and ask "What does it matter?"
Appearance: A shock to those not in the know, the one known as Doctor Estee, and by association Atrione Cartier, is biologically a female, though the face is always obscured. A hood, some say black, some say white, some say it's glowing neon green - the point is that the hood obscures the face, not even so much as a chin or a strand of hair is visible unless someone gets really close. No one gets that close. They try, but none do. Anonymity is important. The hood is the symbol of Estee, Estee is always in hooded jackets made out of comfortable, breathable leather or similar synthetic material. The clothing doesn't make the woman though Estee is no slouch when it comes to attire. Always adorned in denim pants, boots that put one in a militant mind, and ink lining her right arm - ink that seems to just be silly lines and squiggles to most but whose meaning is deeply personal. The hands, the best tools anyone has, are either covered by fingerless gloves or strapped with material. Bare hands are not the way. Doctor Estee looks like any other person living in the streets of Babylon, indistinguishable from any other. A height of 5'6", medium length brown hair, dark, olive skin, blue eyes. So many fit that description. So many could be Doctor Estee. And that's the entire point.
Personality: If
charisma was a course, Doctor Estee would teach it, she might even run the whole department. It's easy for someone to say they're charismatic, it's another to
be charismatic. Doctor Estee has survived by the sheer power of suggestion present in her voice. Doctor Estee has this way of making people believe that anything is possible, even if every single thing points to the opposite. It'd be a handy trait to have, that silver tongue of hers, if she was leading some kind of rebellion or movement. She isn't, charisma is just a byproduct of the job. Apart from being able to hold attention just with words, Doctor Estee is
outspoken, unafraid to speak out against those who wrong not just her - but the people. It's no sweat from her brow, those who could be in a position to silence her have other things to worry about, and that's without factoring in how none know her identity. Being so charismatic, outspoken, and mysterious has the unfortunate side effect of giving Doctor Estee a
Messiah Complex. Going so long without getting taken down, detected, or de-hooded has given her the belief that the reason this hasn't happened is because it
can't happen. Doctor Estee's words are undeniable fact, Doctor Estee's beliefs are the only proper beliefs, Doctor Estee will never die because Doctor Estee is unable to. Doctor Estee will lead the people into a new future, a savior for the modern man, woman, and child. Some might call it being megalomaniacal or even narcissistic, whichever you choose, Doctor Estee thinks highly of herself. That's the main part.
That aside, Doctor Estee isn't without
empathy. She truly does understand the plight of the people, supposedly, and the intentions, initially, were good. But such is the road to hell.
Occupation: Some people hold office jobs, some work as security. Some work in BESC or in the various Corporations. Some take to stealing, to working menial jobs for minimal reward. But not Doctor Estee. Doctor Estee isn't even a doctor, not in the medical sense, the surgeons and pediatricians of the world. Doctor Estee's job is as the
Voice of the People. An underground, not literally, anonymous voice, running pirate broadcasts to inform the masses of the truth of the world. Hijacking the airwaves for long enough to get the message out there, but short enough to remain undetected by those in power. Doctor Estee is a
disc jockey of a different sort, instead of records, she spins words. The fact that these words are often accompanied by music is just a convenient coincidence.
History: Atrione Cartier wasn't always a pirate broadcaster, believe it or not she used to be one silver away from being a silver spoon child. While not living with the truly wealthy on the rim of Babylon, the Cartier family did live a decent distance away from the Skytower, away from the lower class and the downtrodden. Atrione was the only daughter to Marcus and Valerie Cartier, though she wasn't the only child. Two brothers, Eric and Guilles, rounded out the Cartier clan. Marcus and Valerie were long-time corprocrats, manufacturing some manner of needless item designed for making life easier while costing more than most made in half a year. Sure, Atrione is guilty of living a rather luxurious life for her childhood and early teens, the worst she had to deal with being the annoyance of the construction of the ring wall, but just because she came from wealth, away from the struggle, doesn't make her unable to be supportive of the poorer man.
There comes a part in every kid's life where they start to rebel against their parents. Atrione just took that to the extreme. While Marcus groomed Eric and Guilles to continue to corporate legacy, Atrione refused, not wanting to just continue the family legacy of greed and ignorance all tucked behind fake white pickets. Atrione moved out, more specifically she just up and left, and headed into the beating heart of Babylon, the districts closer to the Skytower, living amongst the actual citizens in the melting pot of the city. She found work at a dive bar frequented by colorful customers of all the races and creeds, people looking to spend their extra money on tonics that'll help them get through the next day's slog.
Where was there voice, Atrione wondered. Who would stick up for them, if not themselves? Maybe she was being naive. Maybe it's because she only knew a sheltered life and didn't understand the lower class and their own pursuits of happiness. It's not quite clear, but somewhere inbetween listening to stories of cramped apartments and losing jobs, Atrione decided that this was no way for anyone to live. Loathe as she was to use the Cartier wealth, it provided a nice little net to get herself going, paying off the right people to hear the true whispers in the streets. Having contacts in her brothers, who remain ignorant of their sister's true whereabouts, certainly helped have an eye on the activities of the wealthy, the corporations, those in power.
It was never intended to be anything other than messages of hope for the downtrodden, but Atrione became invested. She began speaking to the common man directly through anonymity. Doctor Estee, that is S.T. for the Skytower, came to life to offer a voice where there wasn't one before. Atrione, alias Doctor Estee, didn't understand the ramifications of her decision, at first she didn't think anyone would listen, and she wasn't aware, not fully, of similar sentiments elsewhere in Babylon. Doctor Estee was meant to be a voice of hope, but somewhere along the line it became a supporter of rebellions, a voice opposing the ruling class despite using their assets and insider knowledge to hijack the networks.
Though she has no intention of actually participating in any revolution or rebellion, and would just as soon return to being Atrione Cartier, she's in too deep to pull back now. Doctor Estee lives on.
Weaponry: Doctor Estee's
voice is her weapon. Using distortion to hide the gender and identity, the voice is what she uses on a near daily basis. Physical altercations are still something she's never been introduced to, though Atrione Cartier does work out at a gym, and is quite the killer when it comes to the heavy bag. It helps that she keeps her hands wrapped, or so she justifies. So, in a sense, her
fists would also qualify.
Augments: A little known fact about Atrione is that her hearing was impaired as a child. She wasn't deaf, not fully, but her left ear didn't pick up voices or sounds well. The Cartier's, strong supporters of the anti-augmentation parties, had to choose between their beliefs or their daughter. They chose their daughter, taking her to a secret clinic to augment her
ears, enhancing her
hearing. She's kept it secret to this day, but it's worked out to her advantages. It helps being able to hear things from further away than most, and in large crowds. To be the Voice, first you have to Listen.
Other: Doctor Estee can't do this job alone and she has a very small team of similar faceless sorts who serve as makeshift producers, setting up perimeters and equipment for Estee to speak. Estee also has a voiceless little machine companion that she calls Deck. While never arrested, Doctor Estee is seen as a criminal, if for no reason other than the hijacking/hacking she does.
