As the title suggests, this is a question to everyone. It's partially out of my own curiosity and the rest for simply having a discussion about this particular topic.

So, I'll as it officially:

What was the largest amount of RPs you have been in at once? This includes 1x1s and group rps, and pretty much any other kind of RP you think would count.

For myself, my current load has been my max in a few years. I currently have a total of 3 active 1x1s(2 in brainstorming phase) and 4 groups. The last time I had this many was a few years back when I had five 1x1s and 5 groups.

I moderate myself to three at a time. It's been that way for basically all time.

these days, we've got just the one. But we do on occasion delve into multiple. never too many, though. All that ends up with is one or more of them receiving insufficient attention. We tried that once, and learned quickly how it wasn't such a good idea.

Way back in the age of the dinosaurs, when I was in high school, I often had upwards of 15 threads at a time. Roleplaying and art were my only hobbies outside school and work. Being young and invincible, I opted to stay up till the wee hours of the morning almost every night so I could get more writing in.

These days, I max out at around 8--my games run at very different paces, so I am usually able to reply fairly to them.

Well, if I count everything that I haven't given up on yet. I'm currently in 25... Most of them 1x1s, some with the same partner. And admittedly quite a few of them are threads on a single world site, so they aren't long and involved.

If I count only the ones that are definitely active right now, it goes right down to 11. Which is sad. :(

Two are in the plotting stage, and most are at a slow post frequency because rl is demanding.

Three probably? And that very loosely. I'm way too lazy to do that many. Honestly, if you were to average how many I am involved in at any given time, you'd end up with a number like 1.1

I tend to avoid joining more than three - and that's if one starts to slow down. If one RP's good/fast enough, I'm content with one.

3 active with maybe 1 that was close to closing down.

Any more than that and it just becomes too difficult.

My current, as you can see, is 9 (10, I think one's dead).

I've had more. Last month I had 11 going.

I think the max was either 12 or 13. But I cannot recall correctly.

However I once was on 3 separate sites, and each had RPs going. So maybe 15 max?

Any more than that I tend to fall behind.

Give or take 15.

Back in 2010-2014 I Would have 7-9 RP's going on, since 2015 though I have never had anymore then three as someone would drop the ball within one RP, always by my partner though. Basically I can't draw in any serious and dedicated Role players and that is even going back to 2010, it is like impossible.

Honestly I haven't made a high score list or anything, but if I had to wager an informed guess, not ever more than 5 at once. I prefer to hover around 2~3 like a lot of other people in this thread.

I'm not quite sure what my maximum number of roleplays (at any given time) was. As of late it's probably been about 2-4. However when I first got into roleplaying I was easily in 6+. Of course this eventually stressed me out, causing me to take haitus regularly. Now I have much better management skills (thankfully).

A lot of interesting — and diverse — amount of rps everyone has had at the same time.

Here's an additional question for everyone:

Why do you think we, as roleplayers/writers, like to stack our RP plate so high with so many rps? Do you think it has to do with the need to have different kinds of rps. An example of that: Say someone has five Rps they're in — a slice of life roleplay, a fantasy(any kind) roleplay, a sci-fi(Again, any kind) roleplay, a horror/mystery roleplay, and some kind of suspense roleplay — do you think that is the most common approach most unconsciously take when taking on more than 1-2 roleplays? Or do you think that something else contributes to it?

I think it has more to do with wanting instant gratification and signing up for more and more roleplays until we always have something to write for, which of course gets really tiresome really quickly and then people drop out.

I think back when I still have internet at home and I didn't have much to do other than studying and writing stuffs, I could easily take up to 11. Now, I'm content with just 4 (1 group and 3 1x1s) - even so I'm still struggling a bit on top of hectic RL and limited wifi access. Too many things happened in 2015 for me...

As to your additional question, I admit that it's partly due to me preferring to try out different genres - till now I don't exactly have a particular type of genre that I feel I'm best in. The other reason was probably my writing style? While in the past I would give free and casual RPs a shot, nowadays I won't do anything lower than advanced.

37.... Back when I was younger, got sick and was pretty much bed ridden for a while. So I helped admin an Rp forum, hosted my own And helped on three others. It's all I did to pass the time until I was well, lol

Now I try to limit myself to 2 1x1 and 5 groups.

That's probably the truest statement I've seen regarding why people join so many rps. Also, totally love how you, as you just put it, summed up the guild.

I think a lot, if not all, of us were at that level at the get go(free and low casual). I mean, everyone has to start somewhere, right? I mean, not everyone was able to write a chapter at the start. If they were, then it probably wasn't literate. In fact, I'm pretty confident that it was run-ons after run-ons. Of course, the more experience we get as writers by roleplaying, I think the we're able to grasp the essence of writing in a literate way(proper sentence structure, knowing when to use periods, commas, colons, and etc..). I think the same could be applied to touching different genres. We all probably at least attempt different genres to make ourselves well-versed in as many genres as we can. Perhaps getting to a point where we can write for anything(so longs the muse allows us to).

37..? o_o Wow, that's definitely a lot. I mean, that's nowhere close to any amount of rps I have been in at the same time within a year. You definitely went IN for that. All I can say to that is it's mighty impressive.

2-3 is the magic number for me, especially since I am in two games that have been going for 1 and 2 years, respectively.
