Drono is not your medical guy. He's our gunner/weapons guy.

Yeah, that too.

I'm counting on stuff like what you described to keep it interesting. Mirage will technically be alone in the bridge, of course, but he's instantly accessible to anyone in the party to communicate with. If people remember that and make use of it, I'll be golden.
And if it does end up being boring, I might send him into the field on the next mission. Who knows.

There's a difference between you controlling a enemy mook and another player controlling another player's enemy. :p

How I imagine this going is that the characters volunteer for particular objectives and form groups (the ones we're outlining in the OOC now) and Mirage a) gives them directions remotely and b) provides virtual overwatch by monitoring comms and hacking into security cameras. Does that sound good to everyone?

I'm failing to see the point of contention here. What you're pushing for is pretty much exactly what I described, where most of the combat is player dictated and acted out. The only enemies that are GM dictated are named characters and major threats that are likely going to require teamwork, think of them as minibosses.
Other than that, I'll generally describe what everyone's up again, add some wrinkles as things go along, and generally just let you guys go have fun. If you want to write combat a certain way, that's fine, but this is typical play by post fight scenes.

Some people see a difference. Even had a GM think I was trying to usurp him because I took control of a NPC then attacked another random player with it, letting us have a fun, back and forward scene. The player and I were enjoying it really.

Exactly what I was thinking. I think Mirage just might be our de facto mission control for every ground run we do.
Also who among the crew has the most experience in Omega?
That's one.
I know Mirage, for another. I think Tia too, if I'm not wrong.
Hazan's worked on the station for several years as a merc, but I won't be surprised if Duuka trumps him in how much he knows since he's lived there. That's kind of a bigger attachment to a place than simply work.
There's Dex too, I think.
Vellios.
Uhh who else am I missing
@Thundercrash Couldn't she wear a disguise, like a hood or a helmet? Unless you're really dead set on her slumming on the USS Hepatitus for what could be quite a while real time, there's ways to get her involved without compromising her identity.
