"Once we were a thousand separate kingdoms, spread over a hundred magic worlds. We were kings and cobblers. Wizards or woodcarvers. We had our sinners, our saints, and our blatant social climbers. And from our grandest lord to the lowliest peasant girl, we were, for the most part, strangers one to another. It took an invasion to unite us. Beyond the farthest shores of Never, the Adversary lived in a remote kingdom, ignored by other powers as his strength and ambitions grew over the long centuries."

"Some say he was a mere woodland sprite, while others claim he was once a god thrown down from the vast heavens when his corruptions had become too great for his lofty brethren to tolerate. Whatever his true origins, he grew into a dark thing of infinite hunger. And after he'd conquered his own lands, putting each of its former kings to the sword, he turned his unquenchable appetites in our direction."

"When the emerald kingdom fell we tisk-tisked and tut-tutted in our homes sad for the fates of those unfortunate souls, but we weren't tempted to intervene. After all, they were always odd folks, and ever so far away. It wasn't our business. Then the kingdom of the great lion fell, and again we did nothing, because we always found the old lion to be too pompous and holier-than-thou for our tastes. And one by one, our scattered lands fell under the Adversary's dominion, swallowed up into his ever growing empire. Had we banded together early, we might have been able to stop him. By the time we realized that he wasn't merely interested in conquering that land, or those people, that he was coming after all of us, it was too late. He'd grown too powerful."

"Many of us didn't have the chance to run. Some of us survived. Too few. Alone, or in small groups, over the span of many years, of lifetimes, we hid and ran and avoided capture. We lived as outlaws and phantoms. Until we could make our way here, to this dreary mundane place: The one world the Adversary seemed to take no interest in. And here, united by our common enemy, we learned to set aside old grudges. We forgave our many grievances, to make covenant with each other. And now, predator and prey, prince and pauper, we are all of a single community allied in our undying memory of the Homelands, and the unshakable determination that one day we will return to win those lands free of the hated one. Ladies and gentlemen, lift your glasses and join me, please, in the drinking this toast. To the Homelands!"

"Elsewhere throughout the city, tonight, in private homes and treasured public places and in the upstate homes, where our more inhuman members dwell other glasses are raised, by those who couldn't be with us here tonight but are still citizens of Fabletown, and are equally determined never to forget."

The warm, calming voice of a older gentleman filled the extravagant hall, drowning out the silent mummers and shuffling of the other occupants of the room. The origin of the voice was a jolly looking fellow who stood behind a podium that overlooked the mingling crowd. His kind eyes looked over the guests as they applauded the speech he had just finished given, just as they did every year when he gave it, all the way back years upon years ago when he first gave it. For the grey haired, slightly heavy set gentleman was no other than King Cole himself, the very same King Cole who had served as the mayor of the secret community of Fabletown ever since its founding centuries ago. And it was this community that he had the fortune of overseeing this night of their most cherished event Remembrance Day, the day they honored what was lost during the tragic events that lead to the abandoning of their lands.

The evening was in full swing. Men fitted in their finest suits danced with woman dressed so elegantly they look as if they stepped out of a fairytale, which they might as well have. The band played a lively tune, allowing those who wished to dance if they wished to. Servers made their way through the crowd, offering glasses of champagne and appetizers to the guests. The feel of the whole event was simply thrilling, this undoubtedly being the largest social gathering all year. There were smiles and conversations between friends, dances and whispers exchanged between lovers, laughs and cheers over old exploits. All of which only served to add to the joyous feel in the air.

--------------------

In the midst of such a colorful and luminous crowd one figure stood out among the rest do to its sheer contrast from all the other far more spectacular individuals that surrounded it. Dawning simple and quite dull suit that looked like it would be more akin to a funeral rather than such a lively occasion at which it was currently worn the fair skinned fellow that looked so alien in the celebration scanned over the festivities behind a pair of thin lensed glasses as he sipped upon a small glass of champagne. He set his glass aside on the table at which he was seated before he brushed back a strand of his raven black hair that had managed to fall away from its proper place among it brothers. The dreary man was no other than Boogie, the once infamous monster that plagued countless nightmares now a mere party goer. Though the blank and disinterested look that sat upon his face may have suggested that Boogie was displeased with his presence here, but that would be quite untrue. In fact Boogie has having quite the pleasant time, it wasn't often that one would find such a concentration of Fables in one place and Boogie was more than happy to have the chance to analyze... I mean reminisces with his old friends.

The former serial killer was among the crowd seeing the king speaking to the crowd noticing the other Fables. His hands stuffed in the pocket of his dark blue suit jacket nodding a few Fables who noticed him.The Fable was now moving closer towards the king wanting to speak to him about his clothing business.

Although he was appreciative of his current job but he wanted to do something else wanting his own job and be his own boss.

Bunny Man

The Bunny Man was instead of moving towards the crowd he was moving away form the crowd now standing at the back of the crowd. The white haired man was looking around the crowd avoiding eye contact form the other Fables. The tall muscular man had some sort of bad feeling in his body but perhaps it was a premonition that he should be ignoring.

Martin leaned against a wall on the edge of the party. He was dressed in rather simple clothes, and drank the strongest thing he could get hi hands on. He hated these kinds of gatherings, too many people in one spot, all boring as hell. He'd much rather be in his truck, making a delivery run. But, he nobody needed him, so he came here, hoping to find someone interesting.

- Before speech / main event -
Lola had been present at the formal event for quite some time, or the ball as one of royalty would call it. The woman was wearing a crimson dress which hugged her curves and showed slightly more than just her cleavage. It was apparent that the stares which she received were mostly frowned upon by women, but as long as she caught any sort of attention which brought her to the center for all to see--She simply enjoyed it either way. At this point it was still fairly early for the actual event to begin, and the blonde stood there nonchalantly. Whispers were heard, the sort of whispers which spoke unpleasant words about her appearance, but as usual the woman seemed completely unfazed by what she called their wretched behavior. Suddenly her name was called. "Lola!" a female voice beckoned as she heard steps coming her way. Suddenly her hand was grabbed and she instinctively jumped, batting her eyes as she looked up at the brunette woman before her. Man i'm short.... she thought with slight irritation as she clicked her heels around to add emphasis to her own height. It was Beauty, or Belle for that matter and Lola simply raised an eyebrow."Ehh.. What's up your dolly faced majesty?" She asked, taking a step back and bowing exaggeratively.

"God i'm out of breath--Please tell me you don't plan on wearing that in front of the mayor?" Belle pointed, her hand hovering over Lola's choice of outfit. Lola deliberately snorted as she covered her nose, a grin apparent across her face. "Haven't you heard of the term 'dress to impress'?"" Lola rhetorically asked with a satisfied grin across her face as Belle released her wrist. "Besides i'm at the center of attention. It's fun." She uttered looking around and waving at some men. Belle sighed, a stressful sigh as she checked the time on her silver watch."Ok theres still time..." She whispered to herself, grabbing onto Lola's wrist once again."Come with me, I'm going to... Make your dress better." Belle insisted, pulling the rabbit-fable behind her. Lola crinkled her nose."Better..?" She repeated before deliberately causing a scene."WHADDYA THINK YOU'RE DOIN?" Lola shouted as she pulled her weight back, causing belle to drag the woman with embarrassment. The reason for Lola's sudden outburst was because she didn't find it a big deal seeing as the event wasn't fully crowded with other fables yet and the woman began to snicker over her shoulder as belle frustratingly eyed her.

"Alllllright -- I'll do it... But ii'll probably hate myself afterwards!" Lola giggled.

| C U R R E N T |

Returning to the ball after quite some time, Lola seemed more distressed about her new gown which Belle had altered a few hours ago. "You're welcome." Belle commented with a smug look across her face. "Ain't I unimportant for you to do this to me." the blonde responded begrudgingly as she walked away to a server with drinks. "Y'know, If I turn into a rabbit because of this, I'm blaming you!" Lola said to the woman as she held up two glass martinis in her hands. She gulped down one, barely slowing down her pace and shook her head, putting the empty glass cup back on the server's plate. "Ah--That's not my drink." She uttered before swallowing down the other drink in her hand and handing it back to him. The woman looked around for a moment before walking around the ball. Where should she even begin to cause trouble? Lola thought for a moment before stopping where she was currently at and sighing. It was then that Lola had received compliments about her appearance. It was rare for her to dress in classy attire, not that the woman was completely trashy or anything. Soon, The mayor began to say his speech, One which Lola assumed would be very very boring.

"On second thought.. Maybe i'll just be a good little rabbit for once." She said to herself as she held her hands behind her back. The woman then snickered to herself silently as she gave up on her obvious lie. "Man, I crack myself up--Who am I kiddin'?" she said, before spotting an old friend, Boogie. Immediately the blonde quickly walked over to his direction, only to trip in her heels and regain her balance... Before eventually falling on her knees clumsily. "EHH!-- I'm fine! I'm fine! Jeezus, go away! Shoo! Shoo!" The woman irritably waved, flailing her arms about as people stared at her, men keeping their distance as they put their hand up but remained by her side just in case. "Get outta here! Scram! Go on! " Lola had appeared slightly over dramatic, but of course it was something she just tend to do and she eventually made it to her old pal, hopping onto the table as she took her seat there and grabbed his tie.

"What's up doc." She uttered casually just inches from his face. "Ain't this monotonous?" She chuckled, commenting on his outfit and the event in particular before releasing the man known as 'boogey' in scarier fables. As son as he was released she simply stretched her arms up in the air and crossed her legs snickering.

It was quite the impressive night Boogie had to admit, when it came to the Remembrance Day celebration King Cole certainly pulled no punches. The band's lively playing was nearly enough to sway Boogie to joining the rest of the crowd on the dance floor, but only nearly. There were dozens of servers scurrying about the extravagant ball room brandishing trays of varies foods and beverages. There was even an extensive buffet that looked like it was tailored to meet the preference of all those in attendance. "Well almost everyone." Boogie added that last thought as he recalled what, or rather whom, his previous diet consisted of.

Boogie was pulled out of his thoughts when a young lady suddenly claimed his table as a seat as well as grabbed his tie, reeling him in close to her face. If it was anyone else, and Boogie wasn't so socially impaired, he may have been surprised by this sudden occurrence, but given that the person who had taken hold of him was Lola Boogie wouldn't of expected anything less. "Good Evening Miss Aster." Boogie said in a dry tone after Lola had released him, he readjusting his tie as well. "I am finding the evening rather pleasant. The band seems to be quite the hit." He continued as he took his glass back into his hand.

He took a small sip of the champagne before setting the glass back down beside Lola. Boogie had never had any real social graces, so small talk was a bit lost on him but given the occasion he was going to make his best effort at it. "How have you been Miss Aster? I trust you are well."

"Yeah, the band is alright." Shrugged the young lady."I love these types of events. They're pretty swanky, and for once i can peacefully rest, y'know?" she rhetorically asked before eyeing around as if she was scanning the room for something valuable to take for later's earnings. "Well, almost. That is until the event nears it's end." She sighed rather leniently. "How have you been Miss Aster? I trust you are well." said Boogie. Lola looked over at the man and sneered."Partially." She responded before looking back at some people on the dance floor."Business is good. Life as usual, used to it, still stubborn of being afraid. Overall everything is still just a big game to me~" the fable rabbit smoothly said."It's the suspense in -my- life that gets me!" She laughed as she gave the male a slow and lenient shrug before her arms dropped back down on her lap. "What about you -Ehh--, Booger? What's goin' on in your life?" she asked back at her friend. "Also, I bumped into georgie a few weeks back!" Lola suddenly said."Sorry, but it was funny." She shook her head, holding back a mischievous grin.

"How's the business? Any crazy patients yet? Scare anybody in particular?" She inquired, suggesting some topics for the man. "Lighten up, doc. Amuse me, i'm givin' ya a head start here to practice." added Lola nonchalantly in attempt to get the man to talk more. After all, Boogie was never the type to be so expressive with others and his words. Not like Lola or probably the average fable at least.

Martin looked around, searching for anyone who looked interesting. That's when he noticed Lola and Boogey chatting together. He smiled to himself and made his way over towards them. He liked Lola and Boogey, he found them both interesting to say the least. He pushed himself through the crowd, not caring about the people who glared at him, he didn't like them anyway. He finally made his way over to them, and gave a smile to them both, "Boogey, good to see you man." He shook his hand and and turned to Lola, "Ah, how you doing Lola? Still cabling and stealing?" He sat down next to them, "So, how's things for you guys going?"

Boogie had removed his glasses and began to clean them as he listened to Lola go on about what she had been up to recently. He wasn't the bit surprised in the answer she gave him, in all the years Boogie had known Lola she never seemed to have any form of filter when it came to her less than reputable activates. But what did manage to catch his interest was when the young rabbit brought up the name Georgie, just the sound of it bring up a whole slew of unwanted memories. Boogie placed his glasses back upon his face and managed to swallow back his less than pleasant thoughts about Georgie before he spoke. "I have been quite well Miss Aster. Work keeps me busy and satisfied as always, though patients from our own community seem to be in short supply of late." He said, trying his best to avoid the topic of Mr. Porgie seeing as the terms he left with the club owner on were a bit... violent.

Luckily for Boogie a new distraction appeared in the form of the mountain of a man that was Martin. Boogie liked Martin, he was a nice enough fellow and one of the few human Fables that didn't have any obvious fear of Boogie. He shook the large man's hand and allowed him to greet Lola first before he himself spoke. "It is a pleasure as always Mister Krpan. I am quite well at the moment." He said as he picked his drink up from the table and finished the last of it up. "And how are you if I may ask?" Boogie said as he placed his empty glass aside.

Leonard meanwhile just wondering around the room waiting for the king to stop speak so he may speak to the king.Holding a champagne glass filled with the sparkling wine form a person a few blocks away while they were in the bathroom.Noticing Boogieman and Lola speaking to each he wanted to go over and say hello but first he had to down the champagne in his hand.Chugging down the contents in the glass strutting over towards the two,"Hello hello you two are looking good especially you Bog,How are you two today?" He said to Boogieman in a sort of flirty sort of way.

He still had the glass in his hand waving it carefully in his strong looking hands.

Bunny Man

The white haired older looking man was walking around noticing Leonard talking to Boogieman feeling a little angry at seeing Leonard. He had a bit of a rivalry with the younger looking Fable mostly concerning their kill count and how gruesome they killed their victims.Staying far enough form the three watching them like a hawk unintentionally walking into Snow White.

Martin smiled at Boogey, "I've been fine thanks Boogey. And please don't call Mister Krpan, that implies that I'm a gentleman, and I'm just a simple man who does a simple job. And smuggles from time to time." He was about to ask how things at work were for Boogey, when he was interrupted by a young looking Fable he didn't recognise. He turned towards the newcomer and nodded his head in greetings, "Hey there, I don't believe I've met you. My name is Martin, and who may you be?"

Hammond wandered aimlessly at the ball until he happened to wander near the band playing music. The nearest musician flinched and edged away, trying not to let his anxiety interfere with his playing, while several of the ball attendees nearby stood up from their seats. Hammond looked over at them, blinking, noticing some of them with balled up fists. Hammond put his hands up to calm the situation, "Relax. I wouldn't play for you ungrateful lot." The attendees sat back down. Having defused the situation, Hammond was anxious to leave behind the awkwardness and headed in a random direction, finding his way to the bar.

"Pick your poison," the bartender said.

Hammond stiffened. "I am in the business of administering poison, not imbibing it," Hammond said shortly, "Poison is fit only for vermin."

"Well, someone once said that all things are poisons in the right amount," the bartender said with a chuckle.

"...smartass..." Hammond muttered as he headed away from the bar. He glanced at his watch, wondering how early he could leave without seeming rude, though people would probably think him rude regardless if he left early or late. In his preoccupation he walks head first into the Bunny Man. Blinking to reorient himself, he looks at the people gathered, noticing in particular, Benjamin the Bunny Man and Lola the Easter Bunny.

"What do we have here? A rodent infestation?" Hammond notices Booker out of the corner of his eye and wonders why a monster fable has a better reputation than himself.

Lola nodded as the boogeyman spoke to her about what was going on in his life. She was going to ask a question until she was interrupted, not that she mind. "Ah, how you doing Lola? Still cabling and stealing?" asked the familiar voice. Lola looked up to see that it was her friend, Martin and she simply curved her red lips into a sneer. "Stealing? Me..?" Lola sarcastically said before patting the man's chest. "Honey." The woman uttered for his attention. "I am not a thief." She chuckled with consideration, knowing that she was simply telling a sort of small lie. Then another person had entered in on the conversation. "Hello hello you two are looking good especially you Bog,How are you two today?" said a male voice. Lola crinkled her nose as her attention was turned towards another male and she gasped and looked between Martin and Boogie. She had never met this third male personally before, however has heard of his tale.

"What's up.." Lola paused as she rested a gloved hand over her lips. "doc with the hand fetish." the blonde giggled under her gloved hands before looking around nonchalantly. It seemed as though more acquaintances had joined in on their little get-together and Lola merely pouted as she looked over her shoulder at boogie. "Seems like your the popular one all of a sudden now." she whispered before looking back at the group of men, which outnumbered her in this small meeting. She wondered how Boogie would take the social part now with this many people around him and she simply sat there in silence, figuring that perhaps she should stay by his side in order to help him cope with this much socialism. They were opposites quite frankly, and she was more open and active than him to say the least. So it was the best she could do for a close friend.

Boogie listened to what the mountain of a man had to say, taking a mental note that Martin didn't want to be referred to by his last name. "Displaying signs of dislike and or resentment towards formality. Possibly do to unsatisfactory past experiences?" Boogie found himself analyzing almost everyone he met as if they were one of his patients, it was a habit of his. Before he could go any further with his mental analyzes of Martin's character Boogie found his attention being called upon yet another new comer to the small group that had started to form around him. It was Leonard who, like himself, was one of the more infamous Fables in the community. Boogie took note of the tone in the man's voice, it held quite the sultry air to it. "Behavior possibly do to intoxication, further observation is need for confirmation." He thought before he greeted Leonard. "It is good to see you again Mister Smith and I am quite well thank you. May I ask yourself the same question?" Boogie said, it seemed this had become his go to line for the night with all the attention he was calling to himself.

Just as Boogie had thought it to himself Lola pointed out to him how he had, by some work of magic it would seem, become quite the center of attention. "Large group. No alterative motives seen at the moment. Looking to socialize with me? Possible. Looking for therapy? Hopefully. Lack of seating? Most likely." He went through a mental list of reasons why his popularity would of become so high. The only time a large group of Fables willingly gathered around Boogie was during his weekly therapy session up on the farm, so this was quite the different experience for him to say the least.

Martin took a step back as more and more people seemed to gather around the table. It seemed a bit odd for so many people to gather together, but then again they probably didn't know or like many other people. He shrugged and liked over at Boogey, who seemed to be analysing everyone and everything at the moment. Maybe that's how he coped. Martin decided to chat a little bit more with everyone for a little bit longer. "So, how's work been for everyone? I've heard that a lot of Fables are struggling to make ends meet these days, and the prices of glamour a are still rising. I hope that nobody here is struggling, because if they are, it's either the Farm, or Georgie Porgie." He had a bit of a grimace at the name of Georgie, he hated that guy a lot.

"Business is good," Hammond butted in, "This putrid city has an endless supply of...pests." He takes out a handkerchief and neurotically wipes his hands of nonexistent filth. At the mention of Georgie, Hammond visibly flinched. "I'd choose the Farm any day, the man runs a cesspool." He wiped his hands more vigorously, seeing if anyone else wanted to talk about their professions.

Antoinette hauled another crate of beer to the bar. Looking around, she could see that the bar was well stocked, enough to last the rest of the event. She had volunteered to help out at the ball, at least, 'volunteered' in the sense that she had demanded some compensation for her time and effort. Before the ball began, she had been helping with set up, decorating, placing tables and chairs, etc. With her work done until clean up time after the ball was over, Antoinette sat down a bit away from the dance floor. She silently disapproved of the festivities. Many who attended struggled with their daily lives and should be spending their time improving them instead of forgetting their worries. There was also the ever-present threat of the Adversary coming to this world; a ball such as this was indicative of the community's lack of preparedness for such an eventuality. "They're all going to die like that dumb grasshopper," she thought to herself.

The event had gone just as well as one would expect from a gathering of fairy tale characters, practically magical, but like so many things in this world it was coming to an end. The band was packing up, friends were having their last toasts, lovers were sharing final embraces, and many a party goer were less than gracefully stumbling their way out of the ballroom. The Remembrance Day festivities had come to an end and just like every year since its founding the former mystical creatures and legendary characters now had to return to their mundane lives that they had constructed for themselves in this equally drab world.

For Boogie the event was quite enjoyable, it wasn't very often that he got to surround himself with such a large crowd of Fables. The only times he truly found himself in the company of his own kind was during his weekly visits to the Farm in order to hold his anger management counseling group. But as the evening went on Boogie felt it was time for him to call it a night. "It has been a true pleasure." Boogie said as he stood from his seat and looked towards the colorful cast of characters that had gathered around him over the course of the night. "But I do believe that the time has come for me to bid you each a fin fare-thee-well. I wish you each a pleasant and safe evening." He added before he offered the group a slight bow of his head, a dry paper thin line that passed for his smile forming on his face. And with that Boogie made his way from the small social circle and out of the ballroom.

It did not take long for Boogie to make it to the Woodlands and back into his apartment. A sigh content escaped the former monster as he loosened the tie around his neck and removed his jacket, placing it on the rack that hung near the front door. His apartment was rather unassuming, nothing out of the ordinary or too noteworthy. Boogie made his way to a small arm chair that was nestled between two book shelves and took a seat. He grabbed a book that sat beside his seat, it being titled The Lady Hellion, and wasted no time before cracking it open. A small smile came to Boogie's face as he read, this truly was a magical night.

Witching Well Chamber, 12:23 AM

"The hell happened to her doc?" The gruff voice of the former Big Bad Wolf asked the older looking gentleman who was currently hunched over in examination of the deathly pale figure of a girl who was laid upon a stone slab. "She's comatose Bigby, looks like she overdosed. But with what... I can't say." Doctor Swineheart said as he pulled back from the table that the barely clinging to life girl.

"Damn it doc I need something." Bigby said, the agitation clear in his voice though a sorrowful look came over his face as he glanced down at the nearly lifeless form on the table. "Bigby this isn't my field. All I can tell you is that this is something that you will ant to bring up to the thirtieth floor."

"I am good in fact i think i am doing much better then i was yesterday,This party is quite interesting a bit dull but finding the interesting people is quite easy" Leonard said with a big smile on his face. His eyes studying Lola for a moment studying her hands for the most part licking his lips before he kept speaking to Boogie about what he had been doing.

After the party Leonard left to head into the Woodland Apartment opening his door and going inside.Inside he took a seat pulling out a skeleton hand that was preserved in a glass,Taking it out rubbing the back on his cheek giving it a long lick with his tongue.

Bunny Man

The Bunny Man after leaving the party got into his apartment siting down in his bed,He took the phone placing it close to him dialing it and calling Ahab about something he wants to buy.

With nothing to hold his attention, Hammond left the party early to avoid having to interact more than necessary.

Antoinette, on the other hand, stayed well past the end of the ball, though she kept mostly to herself. She stayed late to help with cleanup and set-down. A job well-done was its own reward, though receiving a paycheck afterwards certainly didn't hurt. Afterwards, she went home and went to bed, ready for another industrious day.

The next day

Antoinette sat at her desk in the reception room of Booker Manson's psychiatric clinic. She worked as a secretary for him, but they had previously arranged it so that she could do her other work here as well as long as it didn't impede her job. So as long as she wasn't scheduling appointments or ushering people to see the doctor, she was busy with other projects that she performed remotely, as long as she had spreadsheet software, she was golden. She kept an eye and an ear out for anyone coming in, as well as an eye on the schedule of appointments. If anyone needed to see Booker, they would have to go through her.

*KNOCK* *KNOCK* *KNOCK*

Hammond stood outside of Leonard's room in the Woodlands with a long metal stick with a rubber tip that he used to tap walls, ceiling and furniture for signs of vermin infestation. "Termite inspection!" he called out. Although he said 'termite', he would still look for signs of other pests, but this was his main focus right now. he had been going door to door, inspecting every other room, which was enough to give him an idea of the level of infestation. Hammond had been commissioned by Snow White to perform this inspection every so often to prevent the Woodlands from falling apart more than it already had, but most of the tenants were being difficult and obstructive. They didn't like him rooting around in their apartments or comment on how their untidiness invited pests, yet they had been warned numerous times when the inspection would take place, though most of them were either too forgetful or too lazy to prepare for his coming. He hoped Mr. Smith would be a bit more accommodating.
