In all honesty, Beta had a rather notorious reputation and had been banned on the previous iteration of the Guild prior to Guildfall. I'm sure he saw the new site as an opportunity to come back and to my understanding had not changed a bit.

Oh I don't dispute him being banned. I was just pointing out that they do slap the word "Banned" on people's profiles under certain circumstances.

@Edgey Ah okay. I'm not aware of too many other banned profiles but I was under the assumption it was the norm to get the shame banner.

Assuming we're talking about the same thing, that was hardly harrassment. Posting an extremely controversial, glorifying, and immoral idea such as that, they got what they deserved. The only way I'd consider it "harrassement" would be if they got malicious PMs, which none of us have any way of knowing if they did or not.

Ignoring ethics, it was also against the rules. So.

probably shouldn't continue conversation on the topic but hey it's vague

Bullshit, it was harassment and you could have pm'd one of the admins and I don't give a shit what your morals are you harassed him. I joined this site to roleplay, not to have it turned into tumblr 2.0

... "You", as in me? I never even posted on that thread? Weird way to personalize it. EDIT: Not to instigate an argument, but let's say, for example, I punched someone in the face, would it be harrassment if everyone verbally lashed out at me because hurting others like that is "immoral"? Facing negative reactions for a percieved negative action is how it works. Should everyone have calmly discussed it? Probably, but people don't generally work like that, you being a perfect example. You saw something you disliked and you responded with negative emotion. As I said though, I draw the line when the response gets more personal (as in, malicious PM's or attacking in non-related threads, etc.).

Anyways, here's a pet peeve: when people make a fandom RP but completely misconstrue the lore of said fandom. Like, it's one thing if you're making an AU or something, but if you're trying to adhere to the actual canon and you just get it wrong... yikes.

Acting like that is going to get you in trouble one day. People have been killed and have had their lives ruined over emotional break downs. I say that it is better to keep your feelings under control and try to find a civil way of handling things you don't like because I would personally like to report several people on that thread for harassment

a crapton of awesome nation rp's and they're all advanced and require you to write entire novels each posts. would it kill someone to make a Low-Medium nation rp?. it's hard enough to write in casual rps

I agree with Weird on this one, you can't let your emotions rule you. It's different in a real time situation, but if you're lashing out in writing you have plenty of time to think of how you should respond to something. Peace, love, and understanding are better ways to get people to change than vilifying them. Also there are classy ways of calling someone a twat without calling them a twat.

Edit: While I'm here, maybe I should add a roleplay complaint. People with anime avatars who proceed to make a character based on their favorite anime into a setting that does follow the physics of anime. Then proceed to use their psychorenkinatsu blade slash, destroying a Mithril wall, and someones prized topiary. This has not happened recently, thankfully.

You and Chrononaut make a good point, but I'm not acting like harassment is nothing. If anything, it's the opposite. Branding angry backlash towards a terrible handled gameified version of a tragic historic as harassment, when it has not gone beyond a now locked thread (which, again, I'm assuming there have been no malicious PM's or the sort), is arguably discrediting actual harassment. Bullying, abuse, and so forth are very real issues and present very big problems, but this sort of one-off instance of anger towards someone hardly deserves to be considered in the ranks of those kinds of harassment. Judging by how they wrote their final posts on the thread, the OP seemed calm and collected, stubborn that they were in the right but at least sorta understanding. Nothing about that says "I'm horribly affected by the backlash I've recieved", and in fact, you seem to be defending someone who doesn't need it. Additionally, you can't say that they didn't expect there to be at least some negative reaction. Hell, they even said they did themselves. In conclusion, this is (imo) clearly not a risk-inducing event for the OP, assuming they don't have any mental afflictions that could serve as a catalyst for the kind of break-down you mentioned.

Additionally, let's define harassment in this context. According to Canadian Human Rights Commission:

Harassment occurs when someone:

- makes unwelcome remarks or jokes about your race, religion, sex, age, disability or any other of the 11 grounds of discrimination.
- threatens or intimidates you.
- makes unwelcome physical contact with you, such as touching, patting, pinching or punching, which can also be considered assault.

Obviously there was no physical contact, and looking through the thread there were no mentions of any personal characteristics (sex, age, race, etc.), which rules out personal discrimination. The only one that could really apply is the second one, which also matches with the first definition you get when you google the word. Skimming through the thread, I've seen neither threats nor intimidation. A lot of insults and such (which I don't condone, but I understand), but no threats. No "I'm going to find you and kill you" kind of things. No "I'm going to make your life here hell until you leave the site" (if I missed any, please show me). Just a lot of insults and name-calling. By definition, I believe, it was not harassment. I think a better word would be condemnation.

To close... While I hate to bring personal morals like this into it, I think it's ridiculous you would consider reporting those who responded to the OP rather than the OP itself.

Not to stoke the fire or anything, but... What happened? I mean, I shouldn't draw attention to all this, and it's likely that the answer I get could be biased one way or the other, but having no idea of what you guys are talking about is kind of boiling my bacon. It's cool, though. I understand if it's guild policy not to talk explicitly about deleted things, because in my past experiences that's done nothing but resurrect the whole thing and cast bring bad juju upon us all... But at the same time, I really have to ask, since it's getting pretty specific anyway...

Well... That certainly was... An experience to read. It caused all kinds of emotions to happen in me. It could be my shitty sense of humor, but I feel like the post would've been kind of funny, in a South-Park-ey way, if he hadn't gone to the effort to post an actual picture of the actual event occurring...

I definitely think Mr. Sinatra was right in deducing that this guy was a migrating /pol/ user. If he's trolling, which, in the first stage of grief, I have chosen to believe he is, then there's few other places that commonly breed a user who puts that many paragraphs of effort into his "work" to upset people. If he isn't... Well, he's got that specific vibe of mental disorders and oddly casual hardcore racism that they tend to give off.

Either way, I'm caught somewhere between laughing, growling, temple-rubbing, and pitying this man's state of mind. I would definitely harass him, criminal offense or not. My day's darkened just a little bit. I forgot what I even came here to complain about before reading this! Kind of puts everything I've seen before into a new, horrible perspective, really. I thought I'd seen it all before this point, but in hindsight, every other terrible rp idea I've seen was rather innocent compared to this.

Harassing the user for posting something on the internet, while the thread was stupid, is hardly a good idea. It makes you no better than them. And if they're trolling, you're just feeding them by "harassing" them. I'd rather someone post a troll/offensive thread than harass someone. Harassing is highly malicious, and just because this user trolled or was misguided in posting that thread doesn't mean he needs people to start doxxing him or telling him he should die, etc.

Sorry, I usually don't post in these threads, but trying to see someone justify harassing one dude over a thread he made online, offensive or not, just rubbed off of me the wrong way.

Also Tulpa, I'd dispute the fact that GG conducts massive troll campaigns, but I guess this isn't the place for that.

While that thread was dumb, a few people went a little too far - opposed to just crossing it off as an edgelord thread and leaving it at that.

It might be because most people haven't seen a proper edgelord thread so didn't realize it was actually one.

Oh, I'm really not into that kind of thing. When I "Harass" someone, I just consistently give them a hard time about things in not-necessarily-related things. kind of like what was happened in the thread but with less posting density, volatility, and spread throughout other threads if he did something similar. You can get sued over this flavor, if one party or the other is highly motivated enough. Telling someone to die is an inherently silly thing, and Doxxing is also pretty stupid since it clashes with the victim on a technical level and not on the grounds in which you disagree. I just vocally disapprove of his actions on the internet, and that disapproval will remain on the internet.

Then again, he is just a troll, so it's best the subject is just condescendingly dismissed rather than met with justified salt.

i would say calling someone scum and talking about being a punching bag in a past life sounds like personal attacks which I'm pretty sure is breaking site rules.

As I said I am not defending the roleplay and I agree that it was very inappropriate, but regardless it was wrong for the people to react in such a hostile manner. After all this site isn't meant to be a safe space and we must never treat it as such. This is a community and therefor civility is what makes a community prosper

If you're calling someone a sociopath or whatever you're just being stupid. Especially when it's referring to someones concept for a fictional, note the word fictional, writing setting (based on a historical event). Not that the idea wasn't stupid at all for a public roleplaying forum, but there have been plenty of fictional books based on or set in actual atrocities.
