@agentmanatee, Hmmm. I am actually bored, too. I was thinking of giving her a bit of a wisp. Her R's won't be as audible at the end of sentences, and when at they are at the beginning they may sound more like W's. So, it may sound a bit like what we know as an English accent, but not quite due to the W sound.

Example One: "Wun fastuh!" would translate to, "Run faster!" Spoken quickly, I'd say it's not as noticeable.

Example Two: "Aight, evy'one, let's get our shit togethuh," would translate to, "Alright, everyone, let's get our shit together."

Does that sound alright? Or is that too confusing?

@Briza that sounds great! Sort of a French and mainland Europe mix accent, I like it!

Now... what else should we talk about? I guess I could look more into speech impediments... see if I can do more than just have him stutter really badly when shot hits the fan...

Geeze I didn't realize how many different kinds of speech impediments there were... hmmmm...

Let's say when under anxiety and without meds in addition to his stutter getting much worse, he also has Dysprosody messing with cadence, tone, intensity, timing, rhythm and other bits of speech... @Briza gonna be a bitch to write But I imagine it won't get that serious to often... goodd idea?

Well, you folks got me thinking on how I can make the good SSgt a more in depth/dysfunctional fellow, so off to the internet I go for more in depth reading. Probably play off PTSD considering it was implied in his biography.

@Eisenhorn, oooooh. Interesting. How does his PTSD react with his personality? Or is that something we have to find out through role playing with him?

@Briza If he wasn't the outsider I dare say I would enlighten some folks on it, but how his own trauma is going to affect how he is as a person and how he acts with others, well, that is something folks are going to have to feel out in the story. Let's just say he has, what he sees at least, a very good reason for his active dislike and distrust of rookies and greenhorns. He has been doing this for far too long without a break between warzones, after all.

@Eisenhorn, Hmmm. I think PFC Rose is going to take an interest in his standoff, male behavior. Don't worry. She won't follow him around.

@Briza By all means, she is free to take interest, but he will be throwing himself into work and won't take kindly to interruption. Especially since, considering the grasp I hvae on the material conditions of NO-36, the SSgt is going to be mighty busy rigging the place to be as defensible as possible. Definitely a lot of looting the dead between bursts of combat, which won't do his condition any good.

@Eisenhorn, no no, she won't bother him. She knows far too well not to bother a man due to childhood rearing. Her father was a priest, after all. I think she'll find him manly, and that in itself would intrigue her.

@Briza By all means, then, and considering the (to me, at least) surprising balance of genders so far and the other rookie guys so far, relative manliness would be up there, I suppose. I hadn't even given that a thought at all, really.

@Eisenhorn, PFC Rose grew up in a very patriarchist household and doesn't have as much respect for authoritative women (ironic--since she is trying to break the mold), which will be interesting considering she shall be working with some very strong minded women in NO-36. Due to nurture, she tends to mind the man over the woman (that's not to say she's unruly). From reading Staff Sergeant Jacobson's personality and biography, PFC Rose will pay close attention to him.

@agentmanatee, he better not die so easily.

PFC Kane O'Connor

5' 10"

167 lbs

24 years old

Gear
Primary

- The Hyperion model Gauss rifle is a magnetically powered rail gun, capable of launching its rounds through light or medium armour from as far as a mile away. Single shot, semi-automatic. Scope has integrated vision modes, capable of switching between normal, night vision and infra red.

Secondary

- The M23 machine pistol is a simple, compact machine pistol. Twenty round magazine, integrated silencer.

Melee

- Seated within the right bracer of his EHCS is a single blade, nanoweave. Able to cut through most light armour and flesh.

EHCS: Nemesis Class Scout Armour
The Nemesis is a take on a lighter form of the original EHCS frame. Intended for recon and scout units, the frame comes with lightweight armour, flexible and durable. The frame's helmet contains a varied amount of vision modes including infra-red, magnetic, low light and magnifications of up to 4x. Each individual lens is keyed into a central HUD system that displays information directly into the user's pupils.

Personality: Chipper and headstrong, O'Connor is more or less the smartass of the squad. If he isn't providing tactical coverage with his rifle, he's busy chatting up a storm and annoying everyone's ears off. He likes to make himself known, and isn't above noisy, loud partying or making really really bad jokes to try and lighten a serious situation.

Bio: Being the second youngest in the squad isn't lost on O'Connor. His experience in the Interum army was, safe to say, merciless, and being one of the top graduates from scout school has given him a little chip on his shoulder.

Before he enlisted, he was a runner. An athlete. Training hard for his high school's track team to maybe, just maybe, run a gold medal to bring up his ailing study scores. His stamina was amongst the best the school had to offer, though his speed was sadly lacking. He made up for it by training every day, keeping himself cheerful by listening to music or cracking jokes to his fellow athletes.

Then when his two best friends decided to enlist upon graduating, where else could he go? O'Connor followed right in their footsteps, and proved himself physically to be a pretty good navigator and marksman. After his basic training was through, he was selected to undergo specialist training as a scout and reconnaissance trooper. Obviously he did well in the physical department, but the mental stress slowly made him crack. The task of having to not only plan out a route but navigate it back and forth for one lone patrol, then sit there for roughly ten hours on watch while a friendly squad moved through wasn't something he could handle. Eventually he went AWOL, and was only found a week later, drunk off of cheap booze and spouting nasties to whoever got within range.

That was how he ended up at RO-36. A scout nobody wanted, with training that was woefully inadequate for the region. His verdict? Hopefully he'd annoy everyone here so much that he'd end up being sent home. The military life wasn't what he'd expected it to be.

@agentmanatee Hah, don't worry, the Staff Sergeant isn't insubordinate, to the point of courts martial that is. But he will make himself very clear and there will be no disillusion as to how he sees things going and what 'recommendations' he has for forward courses of actions, in regards to the engineering works that need to get done to keep NO-36 in one piece. I kind of designed him to fill an NCO role, provide that experience buffer between junior officer and junior enlisted, so he will help the poor guy out. Just don't expect him to be nice or like it.

@Briza Internal struggles of patriarchal versus matriarchal due to upbringing will create an interesting situation, considering the Second in Command is a woman as well as the medic, who gets unique say in regards to medical conditions. Jacobson will tend to probably task her with helping with rigging mines once they loot some/break out any that might be stored away, considering the demolition/heavy weapon role she fills, whenever he spots her paying too close of attention.

@DJAtomika The insubordinate scout sniper, nice. Definitely going to be clashing with folks, I can already imagine.
