Personality: Karkaff is, for all intensive purposes, a sociopath. He lacks general empathy for the plight of his fellow comrades and has symptoms common in antisocial behavior including an innate ability to lie and a gravitation to criminal behavior. A consistent narcissist and egotist, Karkaff is always interested to show his intellectual prowess and ability to one-up opponents. However despite these negative attributes Jackmier has shown an above average intelligence and a strong will to survive and thrive in a cruel world. In addition Jackmier is fueled by high ambitions and a determination for wealth and power, no matter the costs to achieve them.
History: Born to a socialist factory worker and maid for a Bavarian politician, Jackmier was raised in poverty. This poverty fueled the ambitions of a young Jackmier to strive above others and to make financial and social gains no matter the cost. As a child Jackmier was physically weak, but mentally strong. Often avoiding conflict with fellow children by manipulating those who would harm him and pitting his harassers against one another, this ability to deceive would be a valuable asset throughout his education and military career. At the onset of the First World War Jackmier was only a mere fifteen years old, thus able to avoid the majority of the conflict; his father was not so lucky, and would meet his maker after a French artillery barrage obliterated him in the trenches of Verdun. During the war Jackmier became the bread-winner of the family, and worked as the assistant to a craftsman in Munich while his mother fell into a deep depression. In these quiet years Jackmier avoided the draft successfully and spend the meager wages he made on survival for him and his mother as well as saving money in the hopes of reaching higher education at university. However, Jackmier's dream of university never came. In 1918 the war came to an end and Germany fell into revolution, by 1919 the Bavarian Free State formed and the communists his father had praised took power. Within the span of four months war had come to a now adult Jackmier, and this time the draft would not be avoided.
In late April the dream of a free and socialist Bavaria was already crumbling. With no major support and no true military the Bavarian Reds were faultering to the aggressive Freikorps and the German army. Seeing the futility of remaining loyal to the men who had drafted him, Jackmier was quick to turn his rifle on his new 'comrades' and align with the Freikorps who waged war against Munich in a brutal siege. It was in these days of early May that Jackmier first saw true brutality. Women forced upon by armed men, fleeing reds shot down in the streets, buildings burned with occupants still inside. In the chaos, Jackmier ended more than one life in order to survive; and he felt nothing in doing so. Pulling a trigger and seeing a life end, all of the memories and experiences going with it, had no effect on Jackmier. The only death during the raid on Munich that affected him came from the death of his mother; how she died he could not say, but she never returned home.
Now merely 20 years old and without any parental guidance, not that he had any prior, the world was open to Jackmier. Seeing himself with little future in Munich, he joined his new friends in the Freikorps in aligning with the German Worker's Party under Anton Drexler. Drexler's populist sentiments and vehement opinions on communists, jews, and nationalism would inspire not only Jackmier but hundreds of other youths of the Freikorps throughout the turbulent Weimar decade. However, once the party faced reformation under the 'NSDAP' and Adolf Hitler, Jackmier had grown to feel less and less truly nationalist. Seeing the failures of the Beer Hall Putsch and the years of stagnation for the party did not help this lack of morale, but Jackmier remained persistent and a Nazi Party member up until his eventual defection in March of 1940.
During his years of service in the German armed forces, Jackmier found an apperciation for being the support role among his appears. While some men joined in the hopes of seeing a front line, Jackmier had grown to enjoy the tedium of more simple tasks, especially those in military medicine. Perhaps it was because he couldn't relate to the pain his patients suffered, perhaps it was he enjoyed adding to their discomfort, but the task of being a field medic was fulfilling. Sometimes, when alone, Jackmier still misses his former position. However, these illogical memories subside when he remembers that his defection was not pointless. The Wehrmacht offered him nothing after teaching him field medicine and gave him combat training and experience in Poland. Defecting was simply the next step involved in gaining something greater than mere emotional fulfillment.
Shortly after the annexation of Poland in October of 1939 Jackmier made his move. In a fatal swoop he deserted his company stationed in Warsaw and fled to Danzig. Quickly he had earned the punishment of execution, a fate he had no intention of meeting. Thus, he traveled by boat to the then neutral and independent Denmark; and from Denmark to the shores of the United Kingdom. He made it no secret that he had indeed defected from the Wehrmacht and was not surprised to be arrested by the British government shortly after his arrival in Norwich. In return for pardoning of any crimes that he may or may not have committed in Poland he would reveal all secrets he knew and speak of whatever orders his company had been given. Needless to say, the British were quick to agree to the simple demands. How Jackmier came to be associated with MI6 remains a mystery both he and his handlers continue to keep close to the chest, though it his believed that he had been watched from the moment he had been arrested in January of 1940.
