On Devil Triggers.

They do "unlock a character's true demonic form", yes. But it's not like Arrancar in Bleach, where it's a form change/stat boost.

In the DMC games, it's sort of a panic button. Healing tends to be far slower than what you lot seem to take it for. There is also a stat boost, but again, the statboost is marginal. The more tangible changes are towards moves; that is, one or two per weapon. For instance: Stinger, which would go through an enemy as opposed to knocking them back as usual. Sometimes, it also prevents knockback which can be pretty useful depending on situation.

I see. Well, we needn't be too stringent, do we? It would make more sense to segregate gameplay from story in this regard, if we feel like it would allow for interesting possibilities.

@Hantu Kongkek
Devil Trigger (often abbreviated as D.T.) is a special power possessed by demons and demonic hybrids which allows them to release their full supernatural potential. While in Devil Trigger, the user will assume their true form. In this form, many of the character's physical and magical attributes are amplified, and the character may have access to upgrades or even additions to their normal abilities like flying or hovering.

Taken directly from the DMC Wiki. Another thing you have to remember is that this RP isn't the game, and continuously healing wounds would be overpowered (at least if you ask me). One big heal to begin with is more balance, as it is a finite amount.

That aside, for Demons the human form is sort of a limiter (if I understood what Lug said as being true), and the DT for full Demons are simply them reverting to their true form and full power. Doesn't really sound like just a marginal "Stat boost" if you ask me. DT might still be a "Panic Button" in this RP, but it's not just for the sake of healing (if at all). The way I see it, at least, DT should be used if the opponent cannot be beaten by any other means. A power-up, so to speak. Not an emergency heal and ability-booster.

Well as an artifical half demon my odd devil trigger is totally excused! Also, Hantu reminded me: apparently i forgot to add minor health regen to Mary's DT. Would you mind if i did that?

Innate magical proficiency means that you're going to be doing cool stuff, don't worry.

@Lugubrious Now that you've brought up Summoning, I'm tempted to make either an Umbra Witch or a completely unaffiliated occultist. What are your thoughts? Do we already have enough characters? Would the plot benefit from either an unaffiliated third party or a witch?

That's only based on gameplay, and that's also only from the player's perspective.

The Devil Trigger acts as many different things, Dante has demonstrated that it can be both your true demon form, or your link to your weapon. In DMC4, Dante demonstrates it as being his true demon form. In DMC3 and DMC1, he demonstrates it as being his link to his weapons, where his form actually changes when he changes weapons in that game. In DMC1, he unlocks a unique one from using the sword Alastor.

For enemies, it's probably more accurately a ramping up power-up. When fighting enemies in Dante Must Die mode, they will Devil Trigger if they are not killed within a certain time limit, giving them higher power, lower rate of stagger, and sometimes additional abilities.

So, DT can be anything really, it's possible to have multiple even. Normally it's unleashing a latent power, or some kind of super form, it doesn't always have to be your true form. It is also only limited to demons, so keep that in mind too.

Next, demons taking human form is just a preferential thing. Most don't take a human form due to pride in their true form and as demons, or they are simply unable to take a human appearance. Powerful magical abilities can allow them to on the other hand. I would assume Lily and Blair are of the same brand of demons as Sparda, who takes a human appearance first before his demonic appearance. Shapeshifters like Trish can change appearance at will, she probably could take a non-human appearance but takes a human one out of preference.

We could use a witch, but I'd not make one just yet. I'd like players to try and keep to one character for awhile before making a new one personally, but I think we can allow multiple characters, just maybe not more than two.

So hold off on the witch for now? Got it. I'm gonna work on her for a little tonight but as the both of you suggested I'm gonna wait until at least the end of the prologue to post her.

Question for any of the GMs. There isn't really a rules section on the first page so I was wondering if there was a minimum requirement of activity? A certain number of posts necessary per week or some other gauge.

Well. I was RPing with a guy who went MIA for a week after posting his character sheet. Now he's MIA again.

I think Sho can attest to the effectiveness of the following system that I use in all of my RPs, the use of which I advocate here:

Expected activity level is multiple posts per week. One is permissible if there's no alternative. If someone isn't going to be able to post for a couple days, notification of such is very much appreciated. If a person doesn't post for one week, and doesn't give any notification, they're subject to a mandatory affirmation call and have a day to respond. If the roll call is failed, the person in question is kicked out.

That might seem strict, but really it's very easy.

I'm a firm believer in two characters per person max, if they're inclined. It can be difficult to get interaction going if a person controls only one character, and if that one gets stuck waiting for someone else, things can get boring quickly, so having another to play off of or have do something else is good. Having a secondary character also allows you to experiment with something different, which can also heighten fun.

Obviously, GMs aren't subject to the character limits. As for introducing a new character now, I'd wait until the battle for the second seal is concluding and Chapter 1 can begin.

Speaking of which, I'm anxious to see what other people are coming up with in response to my last post. We now have a defined convergence point.

Not strict at all. Pretty lax actually. Thanks for addressing my question. I'll be working on getting a character up soon. Not certain if I'll take the open demon hunter or Gilgamesh spot, but I've got my eye on them.

Hmm... Might just be the opinion of someone who usually RP's in Advanced, but I personally find the Minimum requirement and such (from Rug) to be a bit strict. There may be things that happen to force someone away for several days at a time, with no chance to inform the others. In that instance it's not really fair for people to be kicked because of bad luck.

Editing my last post, just a heads up.

EDIT: I lied, I'll just knock out another part that continues from where I left off.
