@FrozenEcstasy I kinda hinted at it in the canon section, they're trying to select people who are viable for reproduction which means they are trying to not end up with any gay people onboard simply because it's easier for people to actually y'know, do the nasty rather than artificial insemination. Obviously depending on the characters skills or what he knows (like if he's the smartest man on Earth) they'll be like "Nevermind his sexuality, we need him on board!"

How other characters react is upto the players, I hope that answers your question.

Asking the hard questions, here, I see.

Nah, as someone in the same predicament, I was just about to wonder at the same thing. I'm guessing sperm bank is the most logical answer, however. This far into the future? Science probably progressed enough to give gay couples biological, test tube babies, even. I don't know how that'd work and I'm not a biologist, but, it's not too hard to imagine someone figuring something of that nature out. Eventually, at the very least.

Other than that, I don't see reproductive uselessness being as much of an issue to others if they had other uses on the ship. What's a few people out of thousands? Human reproduction is always going to raise exponentially if there's more than a few hundred willing to procreate. Habitation and resources are more of a factor than "Is this person willing to engage in coitus with the opposite sex?" However, that's only logically speaking. In a situation like this, panic may give way to illogical thinking, which may give way to thinking that homosexuality would be the undoing of mankind. Aha. >_>

Ah okii. So now that he's on the ship they're kinda stuck with him cause it's not like they can just kick him off or kill him, but if he's really skilled then he has a better chance of being better accepted by superiors on the ship?

This is a very rough draft of my android, if anyone is playing a scientist character and would be interested helping make him then that'd be awesome.

@Winter Kitten Indeed that's the thing, usefulness trumps everything in this regard, and as you're unfrozen that means your useful.

I can't speak for other peoples characters, as I said. They may have a negative view on homosexual individuals, I mean there will be a lot of hate, anger, depression and confusion on the ship for a while @FrozenEcstasy

@FrozenEcstasy I can speak for the Captain, he's not gonna have a problem with you.

I also imagine their role plays a factor too. There are people picked specifically to reproduce, right? Staff on board would be far too busy in their jobs trying to make the ship stable, trying to feed numerous people, and a number of other things to really engage in sex and reproduction as frequent as the civilians on board. I'm not being presumptuous by thinking that, right?

However, you're talking about great minds here that likely would be a waste not to attempt to breed through the generations. Would it be illogical to assume the staff were asked to donate sperm and eggs in order to make sure their genes lived on for even more generations before boarding? I assume that'd be a top priority. Last of humanity and you have the equivalent of Albert Einstein on your ship, you want him to work for you, but you also want to make sure he has children. Right?

@Heat

I plan on making a scientist (cause homosexuality haha *cough*) and I wouldn't mind assisting you in those regards! I'm about to get ready for work, but I can talk more there and sparse intervals. If you don't wanna wait for me to PM you, you can send me one and I'll respond whenever I'm able to.

@FrozenEcstasy

ASKING THE HARD QUESTIONS, AGAIN.

That depends on the characters. But secret gay rendezvous for scientific purposes? How could I ever object to that?

@Sep

This bit you are quite correct, those with jobs need to do their jobs. Hence why those picking staff were careful in their selection process, they didn't outright go "Okay no Gay/Trans people. We don't want them."

However, you're talking about great minds here that likely would be a waste not to attempt to breed through the generations. That I shall leave up to the medical personnel (if people apply as them), as remember getting people onto the ship will have been hard as it is. You have the recruitment process, and then you have to try and convince them to leave everything they know and love to go into the unknown, all they will know is that their loved ones will die. Then the ships brand new, gotta get it up to scratch.

Tis a busy time.

That's pretty much what they are, they're useful but only once we make planet fall.

On the topic of babies, test tube babies are a possibility but remember these people have no idea how long they're going to be on the Ark, hence the frozen people. For all they know by the time they make planet fall they may be too old to have babies.

Would you like to have my gay babies? My gaybies?

@Sep

Well, I mean, I was wondering what kind of scientist I'd play. I guess I'm going with the resident physician and genealogist. I'm gonna make all your babies into super humans and generally be maniacal, you feel? Nah, but it'd be interesting to play someone who's willing to splice genes (if that's possible. gonna read the tech more thoroughly in a moment) to see if they can engineer humans to be able to live in semi-hostile environments. It's just a matter of ethics... >_> and how far that someone's willing to go.

All this talk about gay sperm banks gave me inspiration. I never would have known.

@Winter Kitten I am sorry to say @Forsythe is just our resident lurker until late game if I have aliens appear and he gets to play one.

In terms of gene splicing such as it is kind of possible. Though it's an area that hasn't been touched in much, and in these kind of situations it'll likely be very controversial.

On the topic of babies, test tube babies are a possibility but remember these people have no idea how long they're going to be on the Ark, hence the frozen people. For all they know by the time they make planet fall they may be too old to have babies.

I also added this to my last post. Now I don't intend to turn people into breeders, I'm just saying this as these issues will have been thought about pre-departure, I mean the people that created Genesis Protocol would want to ensure Humanity didn't get out and find a new planet just to die out.

Wow, rude. I guess I'll just have to settle for the potential of gay, alien babies later on, if it happens. Boo.

So, the Interstellar Plan B is very much an option in this case? Well, I imagine a giant sperm bank and a room of frozen test tube babies would be like Plan C if the Frozen People didn't work out. I mean, you'd still have it if they did and a boost to the population would probably be a boon.

As for gene splicing. I'm hoping it's controversial. It'd be a wonderful topic of discussion in the IC that might eventually grow into full on conflict. Then there's the matter of interbreeding with alien species and if it's at all possible. I imagine there are supremacists who value their human genetics and what they had back home enough to preserve it aggressively. And then there are people (likely the scientists) who wouldn't mind eschewing ethic codes to prolong human life substantially.

I'm really just getting ahead of myself here. I'm kind of excited to see how events like these would fold out and we haven't established most of our characters yet. Jesus. Anyway, if you welcome more ideas and discussions about the road later on, I'm here for it. However, if you have plans and plot twists you'd like to keep set in stone, I'll stop throwing random ideas out there. XD

@Winter Kitten Yeah the discussions welcome, as for the different plans yes they very are possible. Though what's likely to happen is the sperm etc. will be taken once the IC starts because as I said before, it will have been crazy busy on the ship pre-take off. You are welcome to go around with a test tube.

@Nevix Yes, for any potential battle scenarios (Ships have them IRL as first on the scene kind of thing), but also when we do get to planets and we send away teams. Yes we are going to do peoples favourite Sci-Fi thing with people visiting alien planets (But I'll make sure those left on the ship are entertained).
