The pair of Hayate and Haas entered the cafeteria very quickly, mainly because Haas was still dragging the girl clinging onto him along. And when they entered, they saw... Literally nobody there. They arrived not only before Megan and Camryn did but also before any of the staff did. So shortly put, they couldn't even get any food even if they wanted to. "Oh, come on!" Haas cried out in frustration, almost collapsing due to the dissapointment. But all hope wasn't lost. Alongside the wall was a vending machine, right at the other end of the room. Haas' eyes lit up, seeing snacks being neatly arranged even from that distance. "All right!" he shouted in victory, running over to it. Hayate had let go after being starved and was now collapsed on the floor.
Hayate who was formerly clinging onto Haas now laid on the floor and tried grab something out of her bag. Sadly it was located on her back and she couldn't quite reach it. Hayate uttered "M-My candy..." and looked like she was trying to scratch her back in her futile attempts to grab it. "Haas... Candy~" Hayate brainlessly called out to Haas, slowly crawling towards him despite the fact he ran off.
"Huh?" Haas reflexively reacted to the calling of his name, whipping his head to the back to see Hayate creepily crawling towards him like a zombie. "G-Gah!" he flinched, then tried to remember what she said after his name. 'Candy'. "Don't tell me...! You've turned into a candy zombie?!" Haas looked shocked. Oh no, he'd killed a girl and now they'd come back with a craving for sweets! The boy had to reach that vending machine, and fast. "Don't worry! I'll get you your candy!" Haas made a promise and dashed towards the machine.
The machine looked about ten times bigger now that he was in dire straits, positively towering over him and only grew bigger the longer he waited. The boy rummaged around his pockets for some spare change and quickly threw it into the machine, typing in two numbers. A pack of Jack Atlas themed gummy bears slowly but surely got pushed forward. It took an eternity, but eventually, Haas held it in his hands. "Don't worry! I'll rescue you," he shouted back to Hayate. Haas bolted back towards them, tearing open the pack and tossing a few of the Atlas-bears into Hayate's hands. "Eat these! Save yourself!" The boy pleaded with the candy zombie, hoping this helped.
Hayate quickly took the gummy and munched on it, instantly jumping up on the her feet with starry eyes. "Candy Get! Haas, thine has completed thy quest! You level up!" Hayate called out in response to the candy, making a rather childish joke. "Shall we return to our main quest of obtaining food? Or is nobody here yet?" Hayate asked Haas while checking her bag again for more sweets and pulled out a bag of Gummy Jacks. She wondered a little bit as to why Jack has people eat his own face in gummy form, but they were tasty so it works for her.
"Wait, you had candy in your inventory all along?! I wasted fifty copper!" Haas played along with the joke but let his displeasure be known at the same time. He looked around again, still seeing nobody there. "It seems nobody has logged onto the server yet, and the NPC's are still out of their cycle... We have to make do with the potions in our inventory." Haas shared with Hayate, grabbing a few Atlas-bears from the bag and tossing them into his mouth. The two ate their gummies in the same role-playing fashion, but nobody showed up once they were done. So it seemed their meal consisted of apple, lemon, strawberry and lime flavored Jack Atlas heads.
"Sir Haa-" Hayate cut herself off, coughing once before continuing and changed her tone back to normal. "Before I forget to ask Haas, I've never had an Action Duel before and I was wondering; Do you wanna go for an Action Duel against me? Hayate asked, waiting for a response before continuing the act because she was honestly having a lot of fun joking around.
Haas was looking like he nearly fell asleep standing up, but Hayate opened her mouth at just the right time to snap him out of that before it happened. "Eh? Action Duel? What's that again...?" Haas asked, trying to recall. He slept through each class he got on that, so remembering it was a little hard for him. But then he remembered that absolutely awful duel between Vincent and Leander, realization hitting him about as subtelly as a brick. "Oh! An Action Duel! Yeah, sure! Let's go, then!" Haas said, dashing off again and leaving Hayate in the dust until she chased after him.
The both of them arrived at the arena faster than any human being should, both of them having seen the little running session as a race and thus running at inhuman speeds. It was of such epic proportions that merely describing it was a challenge. Naturally, after such a race, neither of them had much energy left. They decided to rest up for a bit by leaning against the wall of the control office. "I... *huff*, I totally won that!" Haas said, though he really didn't. They both arrived at exactly the same time, so neither was able to win. "Oh... By the way, how are we going to activate that field spell thing?" Haas asked Hayate, figuring she'd know more because it was one of her courses.
Hayate looked at the machine and its various buttons "I remember reading about this. You have this menu where you select a field..." Hayate started a simple explanation while pressing buttons and found a field that reminded her of the cafeteria shenanigans with Haas. "Now how do we get someone to push the start button... I mean, I could be fast enough to beat the button but..." Hayate wondered, then randomly called out the name of a teacher she remembered: "Melchior You here!?" Hayate only remembered since it would be hard to forget that guy.
Almost instantly after Hayate called his name, Melchior dropped in from above. "YYYYYOOOOUUUUU CAAAAAALLLLED?" Melchior asked, nearly shouting it. He looked at the Earth and Wind dorm students, then at where he was. "Oh. You want me to activate the field for you, right?" he asked them, but then grinned. Melchior reached inside of his suit. From the suit he pulled out a wireless microphone. "ALLLLLRIIIIIIIGHT! Under the condition I can commentate, I WILL DO ANYTHING," he excitedly said, plugging in the Microphone's chip into the speakers. Raising the thing to his mouth, he hammed it up again. "DUELISTS! TAKE YOUR STANCE IN THE FIELD!"
Hayate chuckled a little at the random appearance of Melchior and instantly ran to the field, readying her Duel Disk and deck. "Haas You ready to go then?" She asked the boy standing on the other side, who slammed his deck into his Duel Disk too. "You bet I am!" He grinned excitedly. From the speakers in the arena, they could hear Melchior say the following. "Action Field - On! Quest fortress!"
As soon as Melchior pronounced the field's name the Solid Vision underneath the arena started to shine brightly. The field materialized as an 8-bit styled castle heaved Hayate into the air, and a miniature town with a grassy plain surrounded Haas. A bridge connected the village with the castle's domain as a river streamed between. The castle was set in a desolate field with a few towers reaching ofr the sky, and bones of the fallen enemies lay scattered across. Carboard cutouts of people appeared within the castle, inside the river and spread across the town, all about to hold an Action Card once the field launches them.
Haas grinned when he saw the field, remembering the chant needed to set it off. He just hoped Hayate would finish it. "Duelists locked in battle! Kick up the earth and soar in the skies alongside your monsters!" They both chanted, and even Melchior joined in on the fun. "ACTIOOOOOOOOON...!"
"DUEL!"
And when they both finished, the floating ball of shining cards in the sky shattered as Action Cards spread acros the field.
