Personality: With ambition driving his each and every action, Ferguson wants to be on top. He is willing to do anything and everything to get there -- as long as he keeps his word. This stipulation is key to his mental framework, the driving force between each decision he makes. If Ferguson makes a promise or a deal, he will keep it -- even if it results in his own death. Beyond that, he obsesses over problems and issues, as well as goals, driving him nearly to the brink of insanity in order to accomplish it. This drive and focus has caused him to neglect his personal life, leading to the conflict with his ex-wife and his daughter.
Rather impatient, Ferguson is quick to anger if anything is delayed or goes wrong. He refuses to blame himself, instead pushing the blame on other people. Selfish to the core, he may claim that his motives are to benefit someone else, but in the end, they all come back to meet one of his own needs. Able to charm when he needs to, it's helped him become a master salesman, but also a master manipulator. He doesn't care about doing the right thing or the wrong thing -- he cares about what is best for himself.
He isn't trying to be "evil" or a "bad guy." Instead, he's trying to do what makes sense, cutting through and brushing aside whatever he needs to in order to get the job done. To him, the means will always justify the ends.

History
What Brings You to Dunder Mifflin: Ferguson's company was expanding internationally. They had opened a home office practically the middle in Pennsylvania, with Ferguson moving to New Castle. Hating long drives to work, Ferguson offered the position to head the newest branch of Dunder Mifflin instantly. He's been working there ever since Dunder Mifflin New Castle opened its doors.
Life Before You Moved In: Ferguson was born in Edinburgh to a single mother. He never knew who his father was, and each time he'd ask his mother, she would tell a different story. At first, she would tell him that his father went to war--World War II, that is. When he grew old enough to see through the poorly constructed lie, she then told him that his father was a traveling magician, famous and world renowned. He believed this until the advent of the Internet, when a simple search assured him that his father was indeed not a famous magician. It was then, at the age of 21, that his mother admitted that she hadn't the faintest idea who his father was.
He stopped asking questions about it at that point.
His mother raised him the best she could, struggling to make ends meet. Growing up, Ferguson tried not to question why his mother was never home at night, or why people would jeer at her in the street. Preachers were always coming to their tiny flat, informing Ferguson that his mother was going to burn in hell, and he would be alongside her. Terrified of their claims, Ferguson stopped going to church, and grew a hatred/fear of those who speak of the divine.
Growing up in poverty, Ferguson vowed that he would achieve some sort of greatness. In primary school, he would save all of his money up for whatever pencil/eraser was the most popular, purchase them in bulk, and make a steady profit. On a few occasions, his customers would get into a dispute with him, using blows instead of words. On the first few occasions, they injured Ferguson, but only increased his determination. He'd pay the older kids with cash to act as his bodyguards, this habit continuing as he grew up. Erasers turned into concert tickets and make-up, into forgeries on hall passes and sick notes. By the time Ferguson was in college, he knew what he was skilled at: business.
In college, Ferguson was the one to go to in order to get whatever you needed. Given that he attended university in Scotland, he didn't deal alcohol -- it was more adderall, and anything else a college student may have. He eventually ceased his little underground network when he received an opportunity to work with a faculty member, becoming their aid full time. It was likely the only reason Ferguson ended up working honestly -- and not dealing illicit drugs.
By the time he was 24, Ferguson married a waitress named Jean. The two of them had a kid together (Elspeth), but the marriage quickly deteriorated. Jean hated how much Ferguson focused on work, and ended up cheating on him with a co-worker. After just two years of marriage, they divorced, with Jean keeping Elspeth for the school year, and Ferguson only getting to see her during the summers.
Throwing himself into his work, he started fencing in his spare time, as a means to keep up with the stress and heartbreak. Working through his intense emotional issues, Ferguson came to the realization that he was gay, and when his company offered him a position at the new branch in Pennsylvania, Ferguson took the job for a fresh start. The commute was an entire pain, so he switched jobs and began working at Dunder Mifflin, rather than Pharmaceutical Sales.
While the commute is vastly shorter, his life still isn't entirely happy. Behind the cheeky smile at numerous gay bars is a heart broken man. His daughter, Elspeth, has started to detest coming to see him--she calls the visits boring and inane, going as far as to refuse to visit him the next summer. It has been eating away at him, causing him to work harder and harder. His drinking has become a bit of a problem, and he has taken up the habit of smoking cigarettes. While he does enjoy better pay than he did back in Scotland, Ferguson is starting to realize that the lifestyle he lived destroyed any chance of him truly knowing his daughter.

⚜ Eduard Dautrive ⚜
"As long as he doesn't ask me to roleplay a scenario, I don't care what the bloke does."
Despite the general rule that HR and management can never get along, Eduard and Aidan have a good working relationship. As long as Eduard's talks and seminars don't interfere too much with productivity, Aidan tends not to care what Eduard does.
☠ Chris Meyer ☠
"I have tried to fire the bastard eighteen times already. Each time, he wiggles his way out of it!"
If there is someone Aidan despises most in the world, it's Chris. He never stops goofing off and wasting time, and in Aidan's opinion, he isn't that great of a salesman. Constantly distracting the rest of the office and corrupting the interns, Aidan is constantly baffled by the way Chris is able to convince corporate to override Aidan's termination of his employment. One day, though, he's certain he'll succeed. One day.
☮ Gwen Westbrook ☮
"Gwen? She treats me like I'm her father. I'm honored, really."
At first, Aidan had been opposed to getting an intern. They didn't really need anyone, with the office functioning at full capacity. But of course, he quickly grew fond of Gwen. He attempted to be a father to her, constantly ensuring that she was eating her vitamins. He has no idea that she couldn't care less about him.
⚜ Eugene Han ⚜
"My right hand."
Aidan picked Eugene to be Assistant to the Regional Manager easily. Quiet and dedicated, she's the only person he can trust to keep things going smoothly around the office. He knows that she's fluent in English, but decides not to press the matter. As long as she's getting results, everything is fine with him.
☮/§ Declan Farraday ☮/§
"The Robin Hood to my Sheriff of Nottingham...Or perhaps it's the other way around."
Aidan has trouble sometimes deciding whether Declan is amusing or annoying. Half the time, Declan is posing intriguing questions for him to ponder, with nearly endless debates that bore the rest of the office to death. However, he also wastes time constantly--to the extent that Aidan has considered asking Accounting how much money Declan is wasting by goofing off.
☮/⚜ Nana Darling ☮/⚜
"She gets her work done."
Aidan has a slight friendship with Nana, from his point of view. While he does enjoy that she gets her work done, he's more interested in going to her for advice about his daughter. Hardly anyone else in the office knows how to deal with children, but for the most part, Nana has been able to guide him into getting Elspeth to tolerate spending her summers with him. It's a start.

Relation Details
§ Gerald Fischer §
"If he'd shut up for one bloody moment..."
Aidan knows that Fischer is smart. That's why he heads the Accounting Department, but Aidan can't stand the man personally. He's always getting out of his desk and talking to other people, claiming he's trying to help them. To Aidan, he's paying Fischer to do his work. Not someone else's.
⚜ Moe Williamson ⚜
"A poor bastard after my own heart."
He's perhaps the only person in the office with similar attitudes towards business as Aidan. Both of them know it's a dog eat dog world out there, and Aidan respects him for that, along with his hard work. Of course, that doesn't mean that Aidan doesn't keep a close eye on the man. He knows that if Moe could, he'd throw Aidan to the sharks.
§ Rose Peters §
"I wouldn't say she's a waste of space...She's a useful waste."
Aidan disapproves of slackers, quitters, anyone that gives up and wastes time. Unfortunately, ever since he learned that Rose dropped out of school, he has looked down on her. While he begrudgingly admits that Rose is a fine receptionist, that's the most praise he'll give her. At least she's going to try to get back to college, but in his mind, trying doesn't mean much. Accomplishments are what matters.
☯ Sam Foster ☯
"Oh, Sam? Keeps his head down, does his work...Good lad."
Aidan hardly pays any attention to Sam, mostly because Sam never gave him a reason to look twice at him. He did his work, didn't start a fuss, and didn't tend to distract others. As long as it stays that way, Aidan won't have any issues with him.
⚜ Alastair Abbey ⚜
"He's got a good head on his shoulders. Wouldn't be surprised if he replaced Eugene one day."
Aidan has a lot of respect for Alastair, though he more often calls him Abbey. The man is able to get things done, never relenting, and always closing the deal. As far as Aidan is aware, Abbey's one of his best salesmen, and he'd hate to see the day that someone tried to take him away from Dunder Mifflin. Sometimes, he laments that the rest of the office isn't more like Abbey. He's a decent bloke.
⚜ Emily Kessler ⚜
"Without her, people wouldn't be able to faff off on Facebook...Oh, the horror."
Although Aidan might not admit it, he's just tickled that their IT specialist has a masters degree. Of course, in this new day and age, having a functioning company website among other things has become essential for doing business. If Aidan ever started firing people for no reason, she wouldn't be one of them. She's not expendable.
