PRINCIPALITY OF REMONI - MINISTRY OF DEFENSE
FACELESS SQUADRON 7

Welcome, Faceless pilot. Whether you are fresh out of training or have been flying since the beginning of the Faceless program by the Ministry of Defense, you have been selected for a transfer to Faceless Squadron 7. While in this squadron, you will continue to serve the Principality of Remoni more than you ever have before, protecting her and her people against our enemies, whether they be the extraterrestrial enemies from the Moon that have taken over the Lost Territories, or the treacherous Federation of Satea, which seeks nothing less than world domination. We have trained you, modified you and engineered you to have the highest reflexes, perfect loyalty to our Principality and the best skill whether you specialize in airborne mecha or fighter jets. You will serve or you will die and if you die, our nation dies with you.

I won't act like the world was particularly peaceful before, but things are heating up. The Federation is making bizarre movements of large amounts of troops, even on the Joint Front. The Principality needs you now more than ever. Not that the Principality cares for your opinion, Faceless, she cares for your service.

World Map in 2016, at the beginning of the RP

Synopsis

Heavily inspired by the likes of Muv-Luv Alternative, Code Geass, Ace Combat, Aldnoah Zero and many others, Flight of the Faceless is a spiritual successor to a fighter jet RP on the old Roleplayer Guild, taking place in a fictional world with passing similarities to our own. Following an alien invasion in 1996 of seemingly mindless, man-eating beasts, the world is devastated and divided, but when the Satean Federation makes a critical innovation capable of turning around the conflict, it uses this to establish itself as the world's greatest power and works to take over the world. This innovation is the Combined Arms Unifier, a mech capable of operating in the air and on the ground, with extreme maneuverability allowing it to counter most of the alien forces. The Federation's new power and expansion creates tensions with the neighboring Principality of Remoni, formerly an ally of the Federation in the war against the extraterrestrials.

This prompts the creation of the Faceless by the Remonish conglomerate Kerangal, a new type of soldier, using youths taken from around the world who are modified and trained to be the best pilots possible for the domestic versions of the CAU and jet fighters, still formidable opponents against other fighters and CAU's.

You are a Faceless, brought into a war that might not even be your own against your will, forced into loyalty and obedience towards the Principality of Remoni and her allies. How will you shape the future of this shattered world?

@Shin Okay, time to be judged!

Five (5) Digit MOD Identification Number: 50120

Name: Marcel Marsters

Callsign: 'Hot Plate'

Age: 19

Country of Origin: Grand Tannia

Appearance:

Faceless Type: Type A

Bio: Marcel Marsters was born in the Monarchy of Grand Tannia, and like all young working class men he was enlisted in military school from the age of 10. This was an order passed by the king of Grand Tannia Vespit Rylan XI to secure the border of the the large island nation. Tannia's land is rich in resources but because of the unpredictable nature with the neighboring land of the lost territories, their trade with the mostly friendly Shipan nation is very difficult. The lost territories are home to many bandits, pirates and cultists who frequently sink cargo ships from Tannia, which has forced the proud monarchy to over develop their Naval and Air Forces to allow safe transport. Marcel Marsters was not a particularly special individual. But he has a very high skill level in the air, and sortied at least 120 times before being enlisted as a faceless. He of course has no memory of his life, but knows some topical facts about the North-eastern politics.

Specialization: Fighter Aircraft

Name of Machine: Mikiveli F-60 'Crow Musket'

Profile:

Modifications: This particular Crow Musket has been fitted with state of the art 'Buoyancy Pads' which allow the plane not only to float on the surface of water, but also to take off from it.

Personal Color Scheme: Cold Blue-Grey

Loadout:

3 Multipod Missles (3x10 standard missiles)
2 HACM (High Accuracy Short range missiles)
2 RKTL (Rocket Powered Air to Ground Bombs)
1 Revolver Cannon (High Powered Gun)
1 Gatling Cannon (High Rate of fire Gun)
1x cache of flares

OATH: I, A FACELESS PILOT, SWEAR UNDYING LOYALTY TO THE PRINCIPALITY OF REMONI, I DECLARE THAT I WILL ALWAYS FIGHT FOR HER, HER PEOPLE, HER GOALS, I AM ENSURED CERTAIN RIGHTS AND DUTIES AS A FACELESS PILOT AND I WILL ALWAYS ACCOMPLISH THESE DUTIES WITHOUT QUESTION AND WILL NEVER BREAK MY LOYALTY TO THE PRINCIPALITY. IF I DO BREAK THIS OATH, MAY IT MEAN MY DEATH. MAY THE PRINCIPALITY AND HIS MAJESTY BE BLESSED.

Good morning to everyone!

@KoL I'm looking forward to seeing your character again, the CS you posted in the interest check was just about perfect, though modify what you like.

@Thundercrash The Principality has nothing against it, feel free to change things!

@Dynamo Frokane Looks very good and I like him already, just read through the rules ;)

@Shin

Here's my character again:

I didn't changed much on her, I was just waiting until the OOC was out to see if I'd need to, but I don't think that I missed anything. By the way, while I personally like soft colors, like teal much more, Itsuko... erm, 00017 is obviously more of a Yellow person.

Now that we are set, let me say that I enjoyed that timeline you did, not only it looked like something you'd see at an Ace Combat game, but also the fact that you included some of the background I provided to my character was a pleasant surprise.

Oh, lastly, I have some questions:

- I wonder about to what point my statement about planes having greater strategic value in Close Air Support/Bombing missions is accurate? I can see CAUs turning Attack Helicopters and planes like the A-10 (a serious shame, since this is my favorite ground attacker) very obsolete, but what about their role on bombing?

- Yet on the topic of the A-10, just in case I do a secondary character (which I'm not 100% sure yet), would a CAU be able to pack a GAU-8? A positive reply would seriously make me considerate a mecha pilot as a second character.

- If the above is true, this question is pertinent so, how do CAU's deal with recoil from the humongous guns they pack? I suppose that it's using the same mechanics they use to deal with the obscenely high G-force their polit would be subject because of the CAU's hyper-maneuverability (probably some stuff about their alien organ ignoring momentum as it seems to be able to)? In case this is too much info feel free to answer that it's by videogame Physics. After all, it's not like any fiction pilot could survive a second if the maneuvers they do on their source material were made IRL...

- I supposed fighters have a longer operational range, right? After all CAUs don't seem like the can pack so much fuel, though they obviously seem to have advantages when it comes to refueling be it mid-air, or on the ground because of their ability to hover as well as vertical take off/landing.

- I think this is mostly the last for the time being, but what exactly qualifies as a low-speed dog fight when it comes to fighter vs CAU engagements? Considering that the usual plane's maneuverability drops with increases in speed (the reason why I love my Su-37 is because it defies this) but CAU's remain more or less constant because they can practically ignore momentum when turning? I guess that the key is not on speed but rather on skill, unless it's just about outrunning the enemy, right?

PS: Sorry about this bombardment of questions, but I just want to make sure my character(s) don't accidentally say or do something stupid IC, for lack of info on my part. I hope this isn't a bother.

The character sheet is great, accepted, just drop her in the character bin! Now, to answer your questions, one by one...

-CAU's have great cannon armament, so yes, the A-10 is definitely out for her massive cannon when it comes to CAS, but rocket and missile armaments have a long way to come on CAU's, so helicopters still have some use when it comes to TOW's and the like.

-The standard caliber for assault cannons on CAU's is 36 mm, but a 30 mm GAU-8 adaptation is totally within the realm of possibility. Feel free to practically make a mech version of the A-10, it'd be incredibly interesting to see.

-As for how the mecha handle recoil, part of the weight of ground mecha and older Principality airborne mecha came from heavy systems meant to absorb the shock and recoil. I'm no specialist in mechanics and physics, so I can't tell you what they specifically do, they were just there. The flier core does mitigate a lot of force though, due to its anti-gravity properties, but recoil is still felt and shocks can be had if they're hit. There's reasons for it, but it's safer to assume it's all fantasy physics.

-Fighters definitely carry much more fuel and the range is much greater. Overseas flights are practically impossible for CAU's, but they can refill quite easily, as you said.

-CAU's can build up speed then make a very powerful maneuver, but lose a lot of speed doing it. Basically, I'd say a low-speed fight with CAU's in mind is in the 600 kph area.

Sorry if my answers are a bit short, but the bombardment of questions is actually appreciated, it helps fills in some blanks I had in the OOC.

As for @Thundercrash, Garms are off-limits, but I suppose I can let you have a Sparrow if you have a valid reason to have it, since they self-destruct before they can be captured. It must have been captured extremely recently though.

Thanks for the replies, they'll help me avoid some slips and gauge how far into the Rule of Cool territory I can go, like I said. You don't have to worry about the size of them, it's the contents that matter.

Also, thanks for accepting my character.

I feel really tempted to do a "crossbreed" between an Axe and an A-10, for the ultimate flying tank. As for the different between a 36mm auto cannon shaped like a huge rifle and a 30mm Gatling cannon, I guess it's just a matter of style. Tactically speaking, it would have an insanely higher rate of fire and higher velocity rounds, when compared to CAU standard armament. Stylish and powerful all the same.

@Shin Hey there! I made it! I'm working on rereading the history and information. That way I can make a decent character. However, a few questions about the mechs. Are the pilots in their chests or heads? I'm not familiar with this universe if it's based off of anything nonetheless, I'll learn. Also, will I be able to have a copilot? I know a few aircraft I want to man have a pilot and then a gunner. However, this goes for the mechs as well.

Finally! Want my CS here first or the CS tab?

@Smiter19

Hey, I'm not the GM (or related to them) but I can answer most of this, if you don't mind me trying to help so that you can speed up your CS.

I'm sure that the CAU's are piloted from the chest. They are about the size of a fighter jet, so there's really no other place that can fit a human in. They heads are either a cluster of sensors, decoration, or most likely both.

This RP isn't explicitly based on a single source, instead it draws from a lot of stories to create a unique original fiction. As a matter of fact, a friend of mine from here called this AC vs AC, or Ace Combat versus Armored Core, quick is as accurate as any other comparison.

I don't think that having co-pilots will be a problem, but it's more likely that a Faceless can operate at least a modified version of a two-man crew aircraft alone, just think of how the story of AC games always treats you as being alone on the plane, despite having co-pilots appear on the hangar. In fact on most of them if you look to the side on the cockpit mode, you never see anyone. CAU's seem to have been made with a single pilot in mind, though.

Also, you should post your CS here, it's on the rules section to do so.

Anyway...

@Shin

I was reading the OP again and finally made the connection between the name of the Mk-0 "Garm" and its official designation. Nice bit of trivia there, especially since I based my character on the Demon Lord along with a dash of Yellow 13.

There little things are what usually keeps me more in tune with a RP.

This roleplay, especially the OP, is beautifully detailed and in-depth. As new as I may seem, I would definitely like to give this a try. My favorite anime of all time is Evangelion, and once I saw the word "mecha" I could not resist. I'll be rereading the OP to better understand the RP, and hopefully I can get a character (or at least a rough outline of one) sometime soon.

Question: Are we allowed to modify the mechs, or make our own? I want to create or otherwise have an extremely fast/maneuverable mech with minimal armor, one that could use hit-and-run tactics, to match the character idea/personality I'm currently forming in my head.

@Kobayashi

Hey! First let me welcome you to the Guild.

Now that we are done with the pleasantries, let me say that (just like I stated above) I'm not the GM, but I can answer your questions since they were already asked/addressed before. Hopefully, it'll help you.

- We are allowed to modify the Mechs, but they should meet the specifications of the two available models (the M-13 "Diamond" and M-09 "Axe") and, with a very good reason, the Mk X "Sparrow". You can do pretty much anything to them, as long as the overall performance doesn't go into, or beyond, that of the Mk 0 "Garm", which we are not allowed to have at the beginning, just like we can't use 5th gen fighters yet.

- What you described is par for the course to any CAU, but if you want to go to the extreme, I suggest a modified Diamond, since someone else already seems interested on the Sparrow and they are supposed to be very rare, or try to convince @Shin to let you have a Sparrow as well.

- Be aware that, no matter how good you try to make your CAU, it shouldn't meet a Garm in terms of overall performance, or be able to move at top-speeds than 1,000 km/h, which still put your machine way bellow a fighter plane in term of speed, since all of them are able to break the sound barrier casually. The advantage they have over fighters is being able to do very tight/sharp maneuvers at speeds (~ 600 km/h) that most airplanes cannot, so only a pilot with very high skill, or a very good machine (super maneuverability fighters like the Flanker E and F, F 15 MTD, Eurofighter, etc...) can hope to outmaneuver a CAU.

I hope these have helped you.

@KoL, I cannot thank you enough for answering those questions while I was sleeping. All of your answers were 100% correct, but to add on a bit, @Kobayashi, you can design a mech, so long as you give it some history and it doesn't surpass the Garm, as KoL said.

As for your own questions @Smiter19, CAU's are indeed piloted from the chest, with the head being used for cameras, radar, sensors, etc. For inspiration, this draws a lot from Ace Combat and the original idea I had months ago was in fact Ace Combat with mecha, but I steadily added more influences, with a big one being the Muv-Luv Alternative universe, what with the aliens and all.

As a side note, before the IC starts, I'll definitely write a section in the OP on how mecha are piloted. Believe it or not, KoL, I actually did not intentionally have 0 and Garm be together, I only noticed after writing it. Still, it inspired me to put a fair few more AC references in here. ;3

No worries, these questions were already answered by you in first place, I was just relaying the knowledge.

As for the reference thing, I guess a coincidence is as good as anything, I just have this habit of finding Easter Eggs (as long as I know about a thing), these little surprises are always interesting, be them intentional or not.

@Smiter19, I read through your CS and I have a few things to address:

-First, you should have put it in the OOC first, then the character tab once accepted, but meh, minor detail.

-Where does his skill in the cockpit come from? If you'd like that to be a secret plot, send me a message, but the bio is a tiny bit sparse. If you'd like help with it, I'm more than happy to lend a hand! It'd suck for you to get bogged down on the character sheet and not be able to enjoy the IC when it goes live.

-Laser weaponry is still in development, as I believe I mentioned it in the rules. I know, I could have mentioned it in the CS too, but it makes people read the rules, at least.

-There are way too many weapons. We don't have reloading like Ace Combat in this, so missiles won't magically appear out of nowhere on your wings. Read through the rules and go from there and don't worry, most missions won't be long enough for you to entirely expend your armament and just fly around uselessly and if they are, they'll be ways to pick up more munitions. With MultiPods, you should have more than enough though.

Let's work from here, alright? Otherwise, he does seem like an interesting character and I'd be happy to have him as part of the squadron.

On a different note, @Orion , @Cojemo , @Gohan and @Thundercrash, are you still interested?

I also thought I read a mandatory laser add-on. That's why he had a laser in the first place. The SU-33 isn't equipped with a MG in the first place. Lots of armaments for AA and AG.
