Day 4 - Reminds Me of Something Sad

There's nothing sadder than knowing you might be letting your life slip past you.

Even a peppy beat can't fix that.

Day 04 - A song that reminds you of something sad

When I was in the 7th grade I met this amazing girl named Tyra. We became very close friends.
She would invite me over to her house almost every week, and she would always have this song blasting in her room. It was her favorite song, and I'd sometimes hear her humming the tune whenever I was with her. We grew apart, though, when we went off to high school. Her family moved to a different house not too far away, so she was in a different school zone. We kept in touch for the first half of 9th grade, calling or texting each other every day. Soon, days turned into weeks, and then months. The last time I'd heard from her was New Years, when she sent me a quick text.

Tyra committed suicide three months ago.

Every time I hear this song, I am reminded of her, and I can't help but tear up. I just wish that I would have been there for her. I still regret not trying to call her more, because now I really miss hearing her voice.

D a y 4 // A song that reminds you of something sad

This is more emotionally connected to my boyfriend who lost his first love through a disease. I wasn't anywhere near him to embrace him through these hard times... this song made me feel exactly what he was going through. If I want to cry, I'll just listen to this and think of the heartache of losing a significant other.

I know, I KNOW, I'll say it for you: "Wow, the Local Emo picked the emoest song? shocking!" But, I swear, it is way more than that to me. Back in 2004/2005 this was my family friend/basically cousin's favorite song. He struggled with depression and mental illness and in the Spring of 2005 he took his own life. The suicide really shook my family, and life isn't the same without him. I can't help but think of him whenever this song comes on. As a side note, if anyone picks on Green Day or this song in particular in front of me, I get pretty triggered, so keep it to yourself.

Day V: A song that Has a New Meaning Every Repeat...

Surprise, surprise.

There's no doubt about it. I've seen multiple interpretations of this Legendary song. A struggling gay man abused in his entire life and brought to dire straits and suffers throughout the afterlife. The fallacy of Heaven and Hell. A small taste of misandry. There's no mistaking it, this song is the epitome of musical mastery and composition.

Day 5 - A Song That Has a New Meaning to You Every Time You Hear It

I'm still trying to fully comprehend...

Day 438; still no idea what the song is talking about, but we're getting there. Food and water running low. Send aid, stat.

In all honesty, I'm fascinated with this song because I really want to know what's going on. If someone has an input, I'd be very grateful! The last time I heard it, having known that the title was something Kurt Cobain's girlfriend mentioned about his perfume/cologne, it seems to be some sort of ballad, but I honestly have no idea.
Not. One.

Day 05 - A song that has a new meaning to you every time you hear it

There is just something haunting about this song, like a memory that allows you to focus on different aspects depending on where you are in your life. When I was younger it meant one thing, as I aged, that meaning changed; then it became a ballad for love. Each time it holds something different and new for me.

DAY FIVE - A song that has a new meaning to you every time you hear it
The second Panic! song in the list and we're not even done yet. This song is... I just can't even describe how much it's confused me. Since I can't be bothered to go through all the different theories I've had about this song, so just listen to it for yourself and see what you come up with.

Day 05 - A Song What Has New Meaning Whenever I Listen To It

I dunno this is a weird one because most songs are pretty fuckin blatant unless they're intentionally bullshit vague or else sung by a mush mouthed fucker - and people already mentioned Bohemian Rhapsody and Smells Like Teen Spirit so natch.

But like I dunno M83 is great and this song sounds kind of happy in the instrumentation but then the lyrics are not happy and then on second listen the music could be seen as melancholy or wistful longing and it's just like whatever. It's open for the individual.

D a y 5 // A song that has a new meaning to you every time you hear it

The main connotation of this song when you first listen to it can be an infatuation with another person. Being trapped with this obsession and knowing that the other person can take advantage of you. But Muse is a smart band and I know there's more than just 'love' involved in this song. Like the controversies that revolve around the government and how they control things like the media to instill a mindset in their citizens. I've always loved this song, but I know it has many meanings behind it. It also inspires ideas in me so there's that <3.

The whole song is just...so weird! Some top-class psychedelic meddling by The Beatles that, imho, was ahead of its time. The lyrics sound like some mad preacher's ramblings and just like with those, you can basically associate infinite meanings to them. You can also play the game of focusing on a different instrument each time you listen - though for me, the drums blow everything else away.

Ringo was always underappreciated.

I've actually never bothered to look up the true meaning of this song and that's probably why it has no solidified meaning to me. What is it even about? Metaphorical demons? Insanity? A tragic background story? Something completely less emo? I have no idea and I don't know if I'll ever look it up (maybe I will now, we'll see), but regardless, I still love this song.

I also used it as a themesong for an OC once. Edgy.

Day 5 }}} A song that has new meaning every time you hear it.

As Fabricant pointed out, most songs are pretty easy to figure out the meaning of. Picking out lyrics and analyzing them for emotion and depth is one of my favorite things to do with music. For me it is always more about the poetry in the words rather than the beat itself when I am trying to find meaning in a song. That being said, Kamelot has fantastically poetic instrumentals. In fact, on their latest album ' Haven' they included an entire second CD with all of their tracks sans vocals (or with very few vocals). Under Grey Skies definitely falls under the category for day 5, as it is packed full of emotion and, depending on how you are feeling that day, it's meaning can change. I think...

Day V: A song that has a different meaning each time you hear it

To put it simply, this song has always confused the fuck out of me. Each time that I thought I had the meaning down, I would listen to it again, and the meaning is completely different. Honestly it was difficult for me today, but I think I chose a good one. Hope you guys enjoy the song as much as I do. <3

Day VI - A Song You can Always Relate to

As a member of the Christian Faith, this song identifies with me. Among the citizens of the world, I am viewed as probably an ego-maniac fanatic who reasonlessly preach about controversial bible verses and philosophies. Like the song quotes; "You should know things aren't always what they seem." Do I believe what the Scriptures says? What the Miracles indicate? "Cause there are things that I've seen I don't believe." I clung to what I know. Diving deeper into the faith-- it practically does put a weight on my shoulders as we're to be the light among the storm and the salt of the earth. To go out and make Disciples. 'til this day--

They've got me on the outside, looking in.
But I can't see at all
With the weight of the world on my shoulders,
They just wanna see me fall.

Day 06 - A Song What I Can Always Relate To

I'm on the record as saying that What's Up, Fatlip has some of the realest lyrics in the genre. Here's a song from a guy who hasn't really made it - he was in the group The Pharcyde but hasn't had much of a solo career - and is putting his thoughts on why he feels like a loser, giving an honest look into his mental and emotional state - which considering the climate is a nice, rare change of pace. It comes off as more honest than, say, Started From the Bottom which is just masturbatory bullshit or one hit wonders talking about their lifestyles and their shitty spending habits.

But the reason I can relate to this is because I've felt the same was as Fatlip has, obviously not to the full extent - I've never been a rapper or anything, but there are lyrics that can and have described my own thoughts on, well, myself.

Over the years seems like I'm gettin' dumber
Reminiscing to a time when I was younger with a hunger
Full of dreams, determination, self-esteem

I remember when I had lofty career goals and this idea that I was gonna be bigger than what I am. I didn't 'settle' as some people see it, but I did have to reign it in and get a healthy dose of reality.

Ain't got no homies that got my back
Yeah I'm a brother, but sometimes I don't feel black

I don't have many actual friends in my life anymore, I've moved on and 'bought in' or whatever the terms that used to be flung around are. I am black but constantly it takes people by surprise because "I don't act it" which always made me feel odd because that's a strange thing to tell someone.

See. I been a loser just about all my life
Type that tryna turn a ho into a housewife
What do you expect, I give respect

Self explanatory, really.

I make myself sick, get on my own nerves
Immature, insecure grown up nerd

It's really that last part that always hits home. I can be fairly immature and while I've dealt with my insecurities, they definitely were an issue in my younger days. And I mean, I'm into science fiction, movies, video games, Korean entertainment, and anime at age twenty nine. I'm a grown up nerd. And you just have to look at my posting history on this board or if you've seen me on Discord to know that I'm plenty immature. Granted, Fatlip is delving into his self esteem and depression issues but I can still relate to him in ways that resonate with me.

What's Up, Fatlip is often too real for me but that's why I think it's great.

Day 06 - A Song That You Can Always Relate To

Time and time again, for inspiration and belief in myself, I've found myself listening to...

The proof is in the pudding, or in this case, the title. I really despise highschool, and I'm quite sure I'll hate it even when I'm gone. xD I'm also convinced the world is just every teenager trying to grow up, act a little more mature, and pretend to know what they're doing. Therefore, I don't quite believe highschool ever ends. You have the pretty faces, the jocks, the nerds, what have you, in all other walks of life too - so don't feel so bad about it!
