Vivian sat alone on a wooden bench surrounded by her parents beautiful flower garden. However even the bright sun, the chirping birds and the nostalgia of this happy place couldn't shake the heavy sorrow resting on her heart.
Her face was streaked with old tears and her head rested in her cupped hands as her shoulders shuddered on sobbing breaths.
Vivian had been home for a whole day now and thanks to her mothers encouragement this was the first time she had left her room. It was then that the same motherly love slipped an arm around Vivian's shoulder and sat beside her with a hug. Vivian wiped away her tears to look up at her mothers caring face. Vivian had been gone over a year and in that time her mother seemed to have accumulated more wrinkles. Her skin was softly tanned from her long hours in the garden beds yet her eyes remained ever the nurturing and gentlest.
Vivian hugged her mum back and slowly a small smile came to her lips. It was good to be home.
After a moments embrace and the exchange of a few grateful caring words Vivian noticed a parcel sitting on the dirty overalls of her mothers lap. Her parents had gone all out and stretched the limit of their contacts and money to try help Vivian cheer up and move on to her next adventure. After carefully opening the decorated wrapper Vivian gasped.
Her very own pokedex and first pokeball.
Vivian's mother had a few flowery and grass Pokemon that helped in the garden but that was the extent of Viv's relationship with Pokemon. Besides that and what she saw on TV. She never really had any passion or desire to be a trainer and was just happy to let them be.
Still, her mum was trying, so Viv graciously accepted her gift. The two spent a few hours talking and catching up, mostly it was Viv's mother reminiscing her own Pokemon encounters.
But the surprises didn't end there...
Vivian was lead to secluded part of the garden where a mural of pretty flowers circled one high standing beautiful white flower. 'A fairy flower' her mother called it. Apparently it was a truly rare flower and what Vivian found even more surprising was the Pokemon living inside it!
"Aww it's sooo cute!" Vivian squealed in a hush whisper as to not startle the Pokemon. Her mood instantly improving. The Flabebe seemed happy to see Viv's mother but not so much Vivian.
"Flabebe" her mother gently called out approaching the Pokemon. Flabebe gave its own excited little squee in response.
"This is my daughter Vivian, I want you to go with her and look after her just like I looked after you and your flower." The little Flabebe crossed its arms and sternly shook its little head. Vivian's heart sank a little. If her mother was shocked she didn't show it, instead she continued to gently try coheres her tiny friend into agreeing. It was clear in the way this Pokemon looked up to the garden keeper that she adored and admired her, perhaps that was the reason it didn't want to leave with anyone else.
"PETALS GO! Stunspore now!" It all happened so fast, flabebe was as shocked as Vivian. In a flash a Vileplume burst from its pokeball and with a flap of its petals released a spray of yellow dust over the entire flower patch including the fairy flower.
"Quick follow it with sleeping powder." Vileplume did, acting instantly. Flabebe couldn't move, slowly it fell asleep.
"Now throw your ball dear." her mum said, returning to her gentle, quiet normal self like nothing had happened. Like for a moment there she didn't just explode into an unknown fierce stranger. Vivian couldn't follow the instructions, she was still in awe at what just happened. She glimpsed a fierce passion and excitement that she had never seen in her mother before, and it was inspiring!
Suddenly she snapped to and fumbled with the poke ball, nearly dropping it as it enlarged. Taking aim with her left hand she pivoted as she stepped and sent the ball flying through the air...
... Into the flower bush, falling short of the sleeping Pokemon. Her mother let out a sigh and the two of them dove into the prickly bushes trying to move quickly and very quietly.
Later that day after a hearty meal and a few hours of ball practise with a very excited father. Vivian set out to find her best friend. Feeling a lot happier she had a skip in her step as she made her way out with a new companion at her side. They eventually recovered the pokeball just as Flabebe was awakening and instead of throwing it, she used a gentle tap.
