Sounds good. I've been in a constant state of rage since last night - haven't slept.

Yeah. Same here. I'm just now starting to come down from the state of disbelief I was dealing with all night. >. <

WIP
Name: David P. Teller

Age: 57
Gender: Male

Appearance: David has skin like leather. He stands 5'5, with a wiry build. His eyes are dark brown. His black curly hair ends just about the ears.

Class/Faction: Wardens

Background:(I'll get on this last part in a bit, because currently there's a blank ^.^;)

Personality: David is a highly logic individual who does his best to keep his emotions from getting the better of him. That being said, there are a lot of emotions that are always at work trying to get him to do something so stupid so there's a lot of effort in that. It is for this reason he tends to keep others at arm's length. The few people close to him the easier things are. When he can, David tries and buries himself in his studies because magic is simpler than people and the situations they cause.

Magic Type(s):
Kinetomancy
Thaumaturgy

Equipment:
Wizarding staff- David's Primary wizarding instrument. It is a four foot tall staff made of ironwood.
Lightning Rod- A short rod of copper. Its two feet long, and half an inch thick. David uses this to manipulate electricity.

Name: Lady Elizabeth Harris

Age: 143

Gender: Female

Appearance: 5'4, 130 lbs. Blonde hair, brown eyes. Wears glasses.

Faction/Rank: White Council, low ranking Warden

Background: Grew up a minor member of the British aristocracy, learned of her talent at the age of 15. Apprenticed under Thomas Sanders, a now-deceased kinetomancer. Been a (somewhat) well-respected member of the White Council ever since. Got her grey cloak a decade ago. Earned some recognition for driving a small scourge of Black Court vampires out of Liverpool. She went in in full daylight, silver stake at the ready. Cleared out the thralls and Renfields pretty easily, and staked two vamps in the coffins, and a third who woke up a little groggy. She even managed to wound the scourge leader, who then fled and hasn't been heard from since.

Personality: The fact that she's insistent about her title tells you a lot about Elizabeth. Namely, that she's snooty as all get-out. Despite this, she is fiercely loyal to the White Council and hell-bent on seeing Kemmler dead.

Magic types: Evocation, aeromancy. Her magic is more like a sledgehammer than anything else; she doesn't have the patience required for thaumaturgy.

Items: A self-made hickory wand and a pair of glasses enchanted to see through low-level glamours (think a wimpy version of Rashid's ointment).

@shagranoz My only problem with your character is their nearly nonexistent backstory. I don't mind it being really empty but I do mind it when they're 143 years old - something noteworthy has got to have happened to them. Even if not then I'd want to know something about her other than the fact that she's a wizard in the white council, I could have figured that without you saying it.

Working on my char, hasn't really had time alone to concentrate on writing. Still thinking about what kind of magic I want.
Alchemy is set as the primary, thaumaturgy is a pretty solid second and I would like to enchant stuff as well, but then I'd have nothing to use "in the moment" so I'm thinking about some kind of evocation, either earth or water. Water would be good as water is bad for other mages, so it could constitute as one of those practical "combat magics" that the bloke in the kilt talked about.

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

KiltmanBagz Should have figured out gender before my handle

From my understanding of the mechanics of magic it is unlikely that there would be a magical item as generally simple as a ring could do something like a double weight enchantment as a passive effect of the shield. I think mechanically it would be more likely that the ring is a double focus ( Ragen could probably make a tool like that ) Part kenitomance physical shield part terramancy gravity focus. Focus on the shield spell and you get the shield out of it focus on the terramancy spell and you get perhaps a spell that increases the weight of a target as long as you hold the spell in place. I could see it being a handy tool to give to a hard headed puiple who likes to follow their mentor into danger situations. Protect you from monsters or slow them down enough for you to pull out a escape or attack potion or something.

@KiltmanBagz So there is a mechanic to the focus items then? I've only encountered Dresden (staff, rod) and Elaine (rings and bracelets). Dresden had a though about having smaller items, so I sort of wondered "Why doesn't he? Apart from the theme, a smaller item would be better in every way. Or does it have to do with intricacy in some way?

Anyway, double focus seems to make sense. The terramancy would come out as a general spell then? Just point, shoot and run away?

EDIT: Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

most spells used through a focus only work while the wizard is focused on them ( kind of why they are called focuses ) most wizardly spells that are done on the fly or quickly only last as long as their casters power and focus allow. For long lasting things that requires more ritual and time. That is why I feel like this would make more sense. Having both of those spells on one small item would be quite the feat but they way I built Ragen I feel like it could be done. Not easy and she wouldn't have a lot of those sorts of things just laying around, but she could do it.

Small items have advantages and disadvantages. They are less cumbersome, clumsy, and very easily concealed. They are often depicted as quicker to fire up as well, the force rings just go BOOM with a thought where as his shield bracelet takes more time/effort and any workings with his staff takes even more time and effort.

But, on the other hand they are easier to over load ( Like, if you tried using this ring to hold a dragon in place it probably wouldn't be able to handle that kind of strain. Like wise if you had to hold a shield to long against an extra powerful force.) they also tend to be less flexible tools. ( dresden can do all kinds of shit with his staff but his force rings only shoot force, the blasting rod only does blasts, ect )

god I could go on all day about my interpretations of the mechanics of the Dresden world xD

@KiltmanBagzThat does make a lot of sense. Dresden is always going on about his shield bracelet getting hot while he uses it. Smaller items being faster and bigger ones slower, because the bigger they are the more energy you need to pour into them before they start working. Something as small as a ring could only really deal with a very small amount of magic before blowing out... Maybe I should rethink my items now that I have something like this to lean on. A shield in a ring wouldn't be able to stand up to much punishment after all.

@Halvtand I like your character but, I agree - you should take a moment to rethink your items. I'd allow the terramancy effect as a focus, not a passive effect. But you should include another item for it.

@Melkor Great to have a second opinion on it. I am working on the items, slowly. I came up with the pentagram rings as I was writing and kind of like the idea, so I want the shield and focus to be similarly weird and kind of playing with the symbolism of magic. Thanks to that I have a new angle on how to play the character that will hopefully yield some fun roleplaying moments.

I posted and edited the OP a bit, so if you've already looked it over you should give it a second go in-case the bad formatting threw you off or something. I also edited small bits.

So far I like reading him as well. Also, if you guys have any suggestions for how we should proceed, throughout the story, please post them here - I couldn't have thought of everything
