The Wandering Chronos, Various Chambers and Ordo Quarters, Shortly after the Meeting aboard Saints' Chariot

@Wraithblade6

Alexius' cutter landed on one of the several loading docks of The Wandering Chronos, visiting vessels were confined to specific docking bays, but Alexius used a different one. Dismissing his guards, he proceeded alone through the halls of his vast ship, its cramped and dim quarters envloping him in its familiarity. This ship was his home, as it was to all members of the Ordo Chronos. He noted the sparsity of people and servitors as he made his way through, though the former Battleship was understaffed fairly substantially compared to its hey-days, it normally wasn't this lonesome. It probably had to do with whatever Inquisitor Gerion had to inform him of.

After about ten minutes of weaving through corridors, he reached a small sealed door bearing his Ordo's seal upon it. A servo-skull was imbedded in the wall next to it. Taking his Inquisitorial Rosette, he held it to the scanner of the skull, which verified his status and the door quickly snapped open, shutting quickly behind him as he entered. He had entered in through one of the many entrances to the Ordo's Quarters, this among many others required to a Rosette to enter. Security was even tighter in some areas, such as the Ordo Archives, Holding Cells, Armoury and Reliquary, and Alexius' quarters.

This was merely an entrance into the halls of the Ordo, all of which lead to the central meeting room or Conclave Hall of the Ordo Chronos, a fairly imposing and Gothic assembly hall where the Ordo met for discussions, judgements, and ceremonial inductions. He walked around the breadth of the room to the door behind the high seats where he and closest Inquisitors sat, and after showing his rosette, handprint, and retinal scan to a servo-skull at this door, a lock opened the way to his quarters, the quarters of the Master Inquisitor of the Ordo Chronos.

The office was as imposing as the room he had just left, though it featured many of Alexius' personal tastes. He had trophies of various engagements, picts of sectors and planets he particularly enjoyed on his fleet's journey, paper copies of agreements he had made with the various Xenos races he had welcomed into the fleet, and shelves full of personal books were everywhere. Most were journals, others were the works of former Inquisitors and Imperial Judges, he kept what he could manage to recover and took a personal interest in. Inquisitor Gerion was seated reclining in a chair near Alexius' desk. The aging Inquisitor stood as Alexius entered.

"My Lord, your arrival has been anticipated by the Ordo and Captain Lattore of the Relictors . . ."

Alexius waved his hand dismissively as he dropped his hat on his desk and took off his coat, revealing his carapace armour, holster for his Lamarck Thousander, and sheath for his force sword beneath. He draped the coat over his chair as he talked.

"Yes, yes, I know that already Lucius, what did you want to see me about so urgently? And please be brief, I can read the whole reports later if there is much detail to lay out. I'm anxious to not keep the good captain waiting much longer."

Lucius Gerion stammered briefly before catching himself. He was an old and storied Inquisitor with a wealth of knowledge and experience, but was prone to babbling on. Alexius had been working to get the habit out of him with mixed success.

"Master Inquisitor, several weeks ago, the Errant Cohort's cogitator systems were breached in several locations, there is evidence to suggest that almost everything in those data banks was accessed."

Alexius paused in his routine before resuming.

"Did they make it past the Ordo's encryptions, or access our own banks here?"

Gerion shook his head.

"No evidence of that sir, we've put almost everyone aboard on lockdown and have almost the whole Ordo and their retinues at work interrogating everyone, but nothing has turned up yet, and there appear to have been no breaches of any of our data . . . or lack thereof, within the fleet, or a trace of anything aboard our ship here."

Alexius nodded. He would still have to inform Lord Corbec that he would have to contend with potential spies and inner plots to weaken the integrity of the fleet, if the extent of the breach was as extensive as Gerion claimed, but first things first.

"Inform them to hunt through their own retinues as well, we have loose tongues prone to rumour somewhere aboard regardless of infiltrators and spies, and I want them found. After their business is done, have them hunt for any other signs of abnormal behaviours or instances as well, I want to find everything they can on those who did this."

Gerion bowed.

"At once, Master. I shall see to it personally, and have Varius show Captain Lattore in on my way out."

Gerion then made the sign of the Aquila, which Alexius returned as the Inquisitor left, and he returned to making himself comfortable for Captain Lattore. He thought briefly for a moment and drew a decanter of Amasec from his desk and a couple glasses, he poured himself one and took a drink, he wanted to fortify himself for the discussion to come.

Meanwhile, with Inquisitor Malodrax and Captain Lattore, Varius smiled behind his water glass. He admired the Captain's sense of purpose and duty, especially given the reported (though admittedly sporadic)rumoured history of his Chapter. He turned as the door behind him opened with a soft click. An Inquisitor who was noticeably even older than Varius but with the same cloak and rosette stepped through.

"Varius, Master Alexius has returned, and will see the Captain now. Please escort him to the Master' chambers."

Varius nodded and placed his glass down softly by the table before turning to the Astartes, Gerion having done his duty, proceeded briskly out the way which Lattore had come in and further on into the Battleship.

"Very well then, shall we, Captain?"

--------------

Captain of the Relictors had spoken of small victories and of staying together, yet little did his hosts know, this was a stark irony. The Relictors did not have a history of working well with others. Captain Lattore himself, under orders of HIS captain at the time, had slain loyal inquisitors in sheer cold blood. The Relictors were guilty. Leal knew it now. The Space Wolves knew it, and so did the Ordo Malleus. With the Emperor expired and communication and travel broken down, there were few whom the Relictors would ever encounter that were aware of their transgressions or could do anything about it. Leal mentally recounted the events that had led to the excommunication of his chapter, unsettled with the burden of carrying the Relictors's sins to the grave.

The turn for the worse began shortly after the beginning of the 13th Black Crusade. The Relictors were involved in several early battles. They fought valiantly against the Nightlords on Exeltra Minor, slaughtered the Dark Eldar on Xersia, and with their unstoppable daemonweapons, delivered the Emperor's Wrath wherever they passed. As they were battling against the Word Bearers Traitor Legion on Subiac Diablo, one of the bound entities within one of their daemonblades revealed the existence of a relic of terrifying power at Diamedes Archive on Fremas. The bound daemon had successfully been made to translate a series of notes they had collected, all written by servants of the daemon four thousand years ago. From that moment on, securing that artifact with complete secrecy then became the number one priority. Captain Artekus Bardane commanded an immediate departure of the battlefield, ignoring direct orders from the Great Wolf Logan Grimnar, then high commander of the Astartes forces, to remain and support Cadia's defense forces. The Relictors had blatantly abandoned a warzone, leaving their allies in dire need. Little did Captain Bardane know, but Grimnar was so infuriated that he had sent elite Wolf Scouts to follow the Relictors and find out where they were going.

Fremas was an agriworld, one that had suffered and earthquake 500 years prior which had damaged the previously sealed stasis vault, called the Diamedes Archive, at the heart of the mountaintop. The Ordo Malleus had done their best to quickly close off the structure after the earthquake and keep guard ever since. No one except a handful of Adepts on Terra knew what the vault contained.

It only took six Relictors to overcome the Imperial guard stationed at the site. None were left alive, or so they had believed. An inquisitor named Cyarro had survived with critical injuries. The great artifact was found at the heart of the chamber, and the Relictors placed it within a Reliquarius for transport to their star fort to be studied by only the most pure Librarians of the chapter. By the time the wolf scouts arrived, the Relictors were gone, but video surveillance footage revealed the damning details.

As a result of these actions and their conflict with the Inquisition over the use of Chaotic artifacts, the Relictors were declared enemies of the Imperium by unanimous decision of the Ordo Hereticus. They were to be hunted down and destroyed, their gene-seed wiped form the galaxy and all records of their deeds expunged from Imperial history.

After the events at Fremas, the Relictors traveled to recapture the world of Finreht, taking heavy damage to their starfort monastery. With skill and secrecy, their fleet master was able to maneuver them to anchor in the Taeloth system where they could attempt to recover and begin to make use of the knowledge gleaned from the Diamededs Archive. They had already lost a great number of their space marines so far to various battles of the 13th Black Crusade, but they were about to be utterly destroyed. In a cunning ambush by the Ordo Malleus' Chamber Militant, the Grey Knights, under the command of Inquisitor Cyarro, whom the Relictors had left for dead on the Agri-World of Fremas, the assembled Inquisitorial fleet hammered the dying remains of the Relictors' Starfort with concentrated fire from their powerful gun batteries. The inquisition left only after the all traces of the Relictors had been reduced to dust, yet a few hundred survived by evacuating the starfort in ships and heading for the Eye of Terror. In one of these ships was Leal Lattore, who would later return to recover the broken remains of the Imperius Immemorium.

-----------------------------

"Very well then. Shall we, Captain?"

Leal released his hands from behind him and proceeded into the next room.

-----------------------------

Inquisitor Varius Malodrax led Captain Lattore into the inner sanctum of the Ordo Chronos, their steps echoing through the imposing hallways, passing many unmarked doors of various security levels, but which all paths joined at the Ordo's assembly hall. Not a soul was within it, leaving the imposing architecture to speak for itself. Two banks of circular rows of unfurnished seats of black mahogany encircled a small open space wherein various ceremonies or purposes could be utilized. A taller array of seats loomed over the space and the other seats from the northern cardinal point of the room, unfurnished like all the others, but its highest seat was crowned with the unmistakeable seal of their Ordo. A massive chronometer loomed above, its shadow cast down upon the room by a large light behind it, though despite its massive nature its workings were surprisingly quiet, though very noticeable in silence as was the case now. And large banners of the Ordo hung on all the bare walls between the halls leading out of the chamber.

Varius led Captain Lattore around the left side of the room, leading him behind the high seats, where a few steps behind was a sealed door. He knocked twice before Alexius' voice, muffled from behind the door yelled:

"Enter, Varius."

Varius pushed the button on the door to find it open, and Alexius, Master of the Ordo Chronos was standing in front of his desk, his glass of Amasec half drained while the decanter sat behind him. He scratched his head lightly as Varius led Lattore inside, the doors not exactly designed for Astartes heights, but not exactly so short he'd have to crawl in either.

"Master Alexius."

"Varius. Close the door behind the good Captain, unless you have business to attend to, you may stay if you wish and observe our conversation. Nothing may leave this room unless I say so, but you're free to listen and perhaps speak on matters if I ask, you are of similar sympathies to myself, hence why I grant you this privilege."

Varius briefly was taken aback before nodding and moving to seal the door behind Lattore and finding a seat in a chair to the side of the wall where he could observe both Alexius and Lattore.

Alexius focused his attention on Captain Lattore, placing his glass down, his wolfish smile from the council meeting returning.

"Glad that you attended to my request so briskly, Captain. Before we begin, as you may have noticed by what I just said to Varius, this whole conversation is strictly a matter of confidence between us. Nothing of what we discuss will stray beyond this room that we do not desire to have known to seeking ears and curious minds. With that being said, is there anything you'd like to ask me, or tell me in particular before we begin with why I called this meeting?"

------------------------------

The grey-clad relictor straightened up from ducking through the entryway to the private meeting room. The white skull against a black field was clearly recognizable on his shoulder plate. A long glance at Inquisitor Varius searched him for evidence that he could be trusted.

Tentatively accepting Varius as secure, Leal ignored him for the moment and answered. "Yes Inquisitor. First, I must thank you for speaking with me and for the assured secrecy of this meeting. The words we are about to exchange will no doubt put our lives in each other's hands. I must make my intentions clear before you and disclose to you alone information that is highly classified.

This Inquisition must be made aware that the ruinous artifact that was taken from the Diamedes Archive on Fremas still resides aboard the broken remains of our Ramilles Starfort. At this time, the nature of the artifact is so heinous and corruptive that it simply cannot be revealed, even to you. It lies within a stasis field inside a reliquary, hidden within the fortress monastery guarded by our most pure librarian. The only other being in this galaxy that knows of its location, is me."

Leal paused before going on as if pained slightly. "One of our battle brothers has already fallen due to the influence of the Diamedes artifact. It called out to his daemonweapon when he passed too close to the object aboard the ship, causing it to overtake his mind. The brother was given the emperor's peace. This was all only a few months ago." Leal admitted this with great regret, closing his eyes briefly in solemn respect. "It was an isolated case, and steps have been taken to better protect our brothers."

"I myself will not traverse near the artifact, even though it is supposedly dormant. I have command, and my corruption would have far more dire affects. The relics, and even the daemon blades we carry as Relictors, are potent and dangerous, just as we were warned long ago. I have realized that the chaotic forces within reveal to us only crumbs of knowledge littered over a trail of their own design, leading us to wherever THEY will, always in service to the ends of chaos. I remember watching as our former chapter master defied orders and forsook the light to pursue whatever relic supposedly posed a greater threat. He began to place securing the potential weapons of the enemy over the lives he was supposedly protecting from them. Yet I followed him.

Now however, as long as I have command, I swear to never repeat the same course as Arketus Bardane. I vow to place my Emperor and the Imperium before the pursuit of anything chaos deems worthy. This is why I need your help. Inquisitor, I would have the Relictors once more under the watch of the Inquisition's careful eye, never again to be divided and adrift without guidance. We must be the guardians of the knowledge we have acquired and the sole wielders of the weapons we have created. If a chaotic artifact is to be unearthed and contained, let us be the ones sent to it, but let us not operate like an independent band of pirates and mercenaries."

The captain took a breath, calming himself. "As for the Diamedes artifact, there is only one force I would trust to be truly capable of effectively containing it, and they are the Grey Knights. I believe they still exist, and I would like to find any of them to take on this burden. Should we encounter them, of course, I would expect to be immediately attacked, perhaps even ambushed. I must ask you, Alexius, if you find me worthy, give to me an Inquisitorial Rosette... A seal even, as it is the one and only thing that might for a second stay a Grey Knight's blade from my throat long enough for me to speak. It could have no access codes, but it must identify me as its possessor." Captain Lattore was in effect asking to join the Inquisition. "Our pact as master and acolyte would be kept secret until such time, if you wish."

----------------------------

Inquisitor Alexius leaned back throughout Captain Lattore's plea, his smile fading to a more neutral stance, but his eyes never changing in being fixed on the Relictor Captain. He spared a brief glance over to Varius, whom himself exchanged a silent glance, but nothing was said between them.

Looking back at Lattore he began his reply.

"Tis not an easy burden you and your brethren choose to bare, Captain. One which should have broken your chapter long ago and sent it spiralling into Chaos, yet here you and your fellows stand ready to serve once again and ask for a chance to redeem yourselves . . ."

Alexius calmly walked back around to his desk, sitting into his chair as he continued.

"Let me be clear, Captain. I am not the kind of Inquisitor I believe you and your brothers are used to dealing with. I have a more . . . pragmatic view on such matters as these, and see them more as tests of faith and personal resolve than as forbidden matters which dogmatic zealots would have us believe holds no value over faith in our God-Emperor . . . but we all know that God though he may be, he has left us and thrown his Imperium into disorder with his untimely passing, now is not the time for dogmatic cowardice, but to take up bolder measures whilest tempered by our faith and resolve in seeing his vision fulfilled. We know our enemies will not have mercy on those who cannot adapt . . ."

Alexius reached down to his neck and flipped up his rosette to look at it and held it in his hand before looking at Lattore again, his eyes as cold as the void.

"I have my own reasons to seek whatever remains of the Grey Knights as well, Captain. Though how to reach them, not even I am fully certain yet. As for this artifact and your brothers, while I believe you speak from your heart on this, you must understand I require more than words in these times, Captain. I require action. For only through our actions does what we say become true or false.

To this end, I shall take up your desire of putting you and your brothers under the watch of my Ordo. I believe the artifact is best contained within your Starfort for now until such time as more suitable means of containment arises, and until then, you and your brothers will be kept under watch and as you said, our guidance.

As for your second request, I must first ensure that you are truly devout and loyal to our cause. Which you shall have the chance to prove at the Forge-World, potentially. We plan to negotiate for its return into the Imperium, but if negotiations fail, you and your brothers alongside others of your allies, will be the strike force to take the Forge-World in one clean stroke, unspoiled and its Tech-Priests intact. Prove to me that you and your brothers have the resolve to retain yourselves in spite of such powers as you all manipulate and accomplish your role in this task with grace, and I shall grant you an Inquisitorial rosette and your request to be an acolyte. What's more, your chapter will become a new arm of our Ordo, as the Death Watch was to the Ordo Xenos, and the Grey Knights to the Ordo Malleus.

In short, Captain, prove to me what you say is true about the character of you, and your chapter in the upcoming conflict, and your wishes shall be granted.
"

----------------------------

The Relictors of the Ordo Chronos... It made sense. Time-travel, the study of the flow of history, and relic-finding certainly would go hand in hand, or fist into powerglove. It was as if it were meant to be. Leal was nearly moved, so profound was his elation.

"I understand. It will be as we have discussed. You have my deepest gratitude, Inquisitor Alexius." Leal bowed in emphasis of this. "We will follow orders to the utmost, for it is imperative not only for the survival of our chapter but for the nascent Imperium at large. May our deeds make your judgement simple and swift. I will go now to prepare my brothers."

And so it was, another small victory.

Greegori marveled at the size of the Space Hulk. It was like nothing he had ever seen, dwarfing even the mighty Battleships of his fleet. He had received the message and immediately made a return to set up a meeting. But he had not realized he would be dealing with a Space Hulk and attendant fleet until shortly before he had arrived at it. He had long heard the stories and reports of the near mythical amalgamations of hundreds of ships inot single, monstrous cosmic entities. But he had not expected them to be more magnificent than he could ever had imagined. Miles of ship that could support thousands of weapons, engines large enough to propel it the size of strike cruisers and enough hangar space to hold most likely millions of fighters or even smaller capital ships like corvettes. He was speechless at the sight of it, his breath catching in his throat as His battleship approached. It was his retinue that snapped him out of it, Sister superior Alicia clearing her throat to get his attention.

"Embodiment, your Aquila Lander is prepared for you, and the... captain of the ship is ready to receive us.", she said.

Gregori took a deep breath and turned to his bodyguards, a squad of sisters from the Mourning Maidens, he had decided they would make for a more impressive retinue than his Protectorate for this meeting. He nodded and quickly made his way the the chariot's hangar, the sister falling into formation behind him, their armor freshly polished and adorned lavishly. Their metal heels clinked in obedient and ordered step behind their God, all honored that he had chosen them to protect and represent him in the coming encounter aboard the space hulk. Gregori himself had decided to eschew his carapace armor, worried coming in his full battledress may upset his host. Instead he wore his pure white uniform, the short cape lined with gold tilted over his right shoulder, a rich red leather holster containing his ornate laspistol, a peaked white cap atop his head with the aquila at its center proudly displayed. The Aquila lander itself was unique. Its engines and armor had been heavily improved, its proud winged engine tipped in silver and its proud prow shaped into the head of an eagle. Already in the Aquila were several rather important figures of the Imperium Reborn, Arch Magos Mathias Quint, Lord of the Imperium Reborn's Ordo Mechanicus tech-priests. The spidery limbed priest had insisted on accompanying Gregori in order to ensure the frequently tainted nature of Space Hulks was not present upon this... ark. Then there was of course Gregori's personal scribe, long since accustomed to these trips with his master he bowed deeply to him and his sister Guard. It would not be long now, as the board compartment lifted and shut and the Lander's engines roared to life. Gregori remembered reports of hulks filled with alien monstrosities or worse... he hoped such would not be the case and that all this was some sort of ruse... he calmed himself with several deep breaths and smiled, soon it would all be his.

Gregori turned to his pilot in the compartment, "Pilot, hail the... ship. Relay the following; This is the Personal Lander of Gregori Amastov, Emperor of the Imperium Reborn. We have received and are answering your request of a meeting, please relay the location of a suitable hangar to receive us... Ave Imperator.", the pilot nodded and opened his vox to hail the Space Hulk.

Karthis took a deep, long breath after that last message to the trader K'vari. He needed a break from dealing with him, perhaps some other relaxation as well or lessons on controlling his tempers. He wondered if the chapter master or chaplain of the Knights Eternal was available. The apothecary could also work, but he seemed more physical and less mental in terms of specialization; perhaps someone in the Ordo Sororitas could also calm his fiery heart and mind?

"Sir, we're picking up things on the scanners." Karthis's mind snapped back almost immediately, "Fleet approaching, couple of vessels with a battleship flagship called the "Saint's Chariot". I think its the ruler of the this Imperium's personal flagship or something. They don't seem to be hostile... incoming lander and transmission. I suspect that he wants to talk to you."

With a lazy flick of his hand, the Lord Regent ordered the shipman to open up coms and ignore any other communications for the time being from outside of his fleet; Karthis wanted to really focus in on this man and this conversation it seems. With an keyboard in his hand, he personally typed out a reply to this Gregori Amastov, clacking away before sending the message:

::TO GREGORI AMASTOVE::

Greetings honored Gregori Amastov,
This is Ingenis Karthis, Lord Regent of the Ark Imperialis, ruling in place of the Emperor until he returns to mankind once more. Thou have been granted permission to dock in a private dock. Please proceed to hanger F8-33, directions will be sent shortly. A pair of fighter craft have been dispatched to escort you, do not worry. I hope to see you soon, honored guest.
Imperium Aeteurnum.

Looking out into the void, Karthis spotted a pair of modified Thunderbolt fighters blast off leaving a trail of light blue form their void-capable engines. If memory served him right, those fighters came from a marooned carrier that had gotten itself lodged in an especially large chunk of space rock from his father's time. Despite their efforts, they only managed to free half the ship through a combination of blasting charges, cutting teams and ever so gentle voidship-on-voidship ramming. Thankfully the surviving crew was recused as well as most of the material wealth and resources aboard it with the architeks combining various aircraft and void-based strike craft to create additions for the strike fighter wing of the fleet.

"Excuse me now, I must go and get changed now." Karthis pushed the keyboard away and got up, followed by his bodyguard, a pair of Knight Warden Champions, personal honor guards of not just him but other extremely important figures; most others simply had a pair of Guardsmen attend to them or War Maidens if they were part of/affiliated with the Ordo. That said, Karthis was the only one who had two of these extremely prestigious honor guards to escort him everywhere. With the ground shaking as they went, the trio made their way to Karthis's personal chambers and without a word, the Champions stood guard outside as the Lord Regent entered, heading straight for his modest wardrobe, "Hmm... what to wear, what to wear...."

The pilot nodded and turned on the lander's intercom to relay the information to its occupants, "We have been given permission to land as well as a light fighter escort. We will arrive in a matter of minutes my Lord Emperor."

Gregori smiled, happy that they were being received so graciously, perhaps this would go even better than he planned. The modded Lander fell into formation with its escorts and turned to follow them to the designated hangar. The Magos looked out the viewing ports at the escorts and saw little wrong with them... for now, even his enhanced vision unable to pick out the details whilst moving in the void of space. As the ships flew over the surface Gregori planned out his speech and conversation in his head, preparing himself for what could be a difficult bit of negotiation... especially from the way the Arks inhabitants seemed to interpret Imperial creed.

It wasn't much longer until the Lander and its' escorts had arrived at their designated hangar, the Lavish and proud transport carefully setting down in the hangar and its escort along side it. The passenger compartment dropped down, revealing Gregori and his retinue. Surprisingly, Gregori himself was comparably plain. His crisp white uniform had only a badge denoting his 'rank' as Lord General, his short cape which could be described as a ponch had a silver detail in its lining and his peaked cap had only the Aquila for ornament. His Sister's bodyguards wore power armor of the finest quality, having been restored in order to denote gus honor guard. Detailed in gold with purity seals and other glamorous ornaments all the way down to their finely detailed bolters. Grgori scanned the hangar for the man he was meant to meet, or at least a guide to where they would be meeting.

Doors hissing open, the Lord Regent stepped out sporting a new, fresh dress uniform. Its cleaned, ironed fabric, free of both grime and wrinkles; its accents and fittings boasted strikingly fitting crimson and glorious, shinning golden fixtures. The master-crafted laspistol ”Finest Hour was snuggly secured in a holster to his side with Karthis’s power sword, ”Stout Allegiance” flanking his other hip. Carefully tucked under his cloths, his rosarius was pressed against his chest, just in case. Can’t ever be too careful in these treacherous days.

Escorted down the hall, he summoned forth an additional retinue if not just for show. Two squads of the finest Nova Militarum guardsmen would be present at the meeting as would be the Ordo Sororitas’s Canoness Superior with her own retinue of War Maidens. As the increasingly large group mounted a trio of Rhinos, two Tau drones appeared with a pair of scribes and a small gathering of representatives of the Officio Fabricus who piled into an open-topped truck of their own design. The head of the Officio, the Lord Artificer, wasn’t present however, clearly buried in his own work as per usual.

The convoy rumbled down the streets and corridors with a handful of short lift rides. Karthis spent most of the trip musing on how to interact with his space marine guards giving advice and telling antidotes of the encounters previous members of Karthis's lineage had that might help. Nearing the end, Karthis was given a message by one of the Tau drones that the lander had arrived in designated hanger, its escort craft now patrolling the local space around the hanger as their mission was completed. The Lord Regent smiled, as of right now, everything was going smoothly as the convoy pulled outside of the hanger. This one was selected because while it was large and well decorated and clean, it was also a private, separated dock which meant that there was a level of privacy. Its rich decoration had an air of modesty to it, the bright lights and golden trimmings meshing with the polished, utilitarian metal floor and lines of tool racks and terminals, all neatly lined and in pristine condition. As an added bonus of this hanger being isolated from other hanger bays, Karthis knew that not all petty imperiums approved of the work of his architeks and hoped that by not seeing any of the major, noticeable changes, Gregori and his men would be blissfully unaware for the moment.

After some quick planning for an entrance, the hanger door opened as the two squads of guardsmen flooded either side of the room, forming two neat, five-man rows on the polished metal floor as they held their rifles with pride. In unison, they shouted, "Imperium! Aeternum!", heralding the arrival of Karthis who had his two Tau drones floating silently above him. Flanked by the two Knight Eternal Champions, followed by a priest who held a copy of the Libre Imperialias: Book of Truth with a dual line of War Maidens behind her lead by the scribes, Karthis's entrance was almost unusually grand of him. But he knew that first impressions mattered. As the gaggle of architeks filtered in, carefully hidden behind the rest of the blob of retinue, the main man on center stage stretched out a hand, "Lord Regent Karthis of the Ark Imperialis, preserver of the Emperor's will and truth. I welcome thee to my ship."

As the Guardsmen marched in to set up Gregori's Sororitas turned and stood in there own smaller ranks, their Sister Superior's hand strayed to her blade but Gregori lifted a hand to stop her. He could tell this was no more than a display of power and wealth, a common tactic when on ones home turf. His scribe was already jotting down the details of the entrance with his auto-quills, furiously writng as Gregori stood straight and prepared to meet the man himself. 'Lord Regent' Karthis had clearly intended his first appearance dazzle with both his extensive retinueand lavish outfit, which was good. He considered Gregori important enough to bring such an extensive retinue, though he felt the support staff was a bit over-bearing. Magos Mathias scanned for Mechanicum personnel, catching glimpses of the red robes among the retinue.

Gregori stepped forward, and linked his thumbs against his chest, hands outstretched in the sign of the Aquila, before taking his hand. He thought it was a bit... odd to be addressed as 'thee' but brushed it off while shaking Karthis' hand.

"I am Gregori Amastov, Emperor of the Imperium Reborn and Lord General of the first Expansion Crusade. Your ship is... impressive Lord Regent to say the least. I, and especially Honoured Arch Magos Mathias of the Ordo Mechanicus, are excited to see the rest. But, that of course can come later, we must first discuss the new horizons that have opened with your arrival for the both of us.", Gregori smiled as he gestured to his retinue, "Will we meet here or is there another venue intended for our negotiations?"

"We can continue if you wish. Alternatively I can arrange more some more comfortable, fitting arrangements to be made in a more private lounge for discussions." Karthis was glad that this act had proven some effect on the 'Emperor of the Imperium Reborn'. He was also very curious as to what this whole 'first expansion crusade' was about, he had come across plenty of systems embroiled in war but it never failed to peak his interest even if he learned to hide this curiosity well.

"Should you wish to go elsewhere, you may either ride in one of the transports here and get something of a scenic route or I can call for the IMagnum Opus, a Fire Raptor gunship and a sacred relic of the Knights Eternal chapter. Also, please, have a drink." Karthis stepped aside to let a trio of servitors bearing trays with delicate, fancy glass drinking chalices with a sweet, bubbly golden nectar in them that had been stowed away in one of the transports. A glass was given to each member of the Nova Militarum guardsmen , War Maidens and architeks present as well as Gregori and his retinue; the astartes accepted them if only out of duty to keep appearances. Raising the glasses together, Karthis smiled a "Cheers!" and downed his drink as did the rest of his forces present (the astartes just stood their for a second before they decide to again be in unison with everyone else and poured their servings into a canten for later use, dumping an empty chalice over their helmets in a comedic fashion).

"Fyorghan Golden Reserve Sparkling Wine, known for its hints of sweet tassleberry and aged in an exotic wild red orchid wood barrel for two decades." Karthis paraphrased what would obviously be on the back of a bottle, "Found this on an old luxury space yacht whose occupants were in no shape to care what happened to their wine, nor ship for that matter after they decided to let the vacuum of space into their party, courtesy of hull damage. Thought this would be a perfect time to open it up, special occasion."

Handing his glass back to one of the servitors, he realized that none of his guest had taken a sip out of their glasses, "Don't worry they aren't poisoned. We both know of more effective ways of killing guests than this I think." Karthis waved his hand and urged them to take a sip, "Now, how do you wish to arrive to a more befitting conference room?"

"Haha, far from a belief of poison, I simply had to be sure you had offered me an appropriate vintage!", Gregori laughed and downed his own drink. In truth he had more expected to drink it as they went and savor the taste rather than downing the fine drink all at once. He gulped happily before gesturing to his retinue, "The Sisters do not partake, thanks to their own vows, and the Arch magos is quite unable and unwilling to indulge in such.", his scribe quickly downed his own drink before returning to his writing. The sisters politely rfused the drinks and the Arch Magos seemed far more intent on inspecting the floors and walls, simply waving a mechadentrite to suggest the server take such things away.

"I do beleive this... Fire Raptor gunship sounds like the easiest way to have a decent look at the Ark from above, and will most likely get us alot closer to a suitable meeting room. I do believe such a transport is worthy. Please, lead the way.", Gregori said, gesturing from where Karthis came from.

Turning his head around slightly, Karthis quickly spoke into a comm-bead and within minutes a Fire Raptor came into view, gingerly finding a spot to land as the pilot managed not to bump Gregori's lander in a deft display of control and skill. Just outside another pair of fighters preformed the rounds as the Magnum Opus's door hissed open to let few people in. Being a gunship and not a dedicated flying transport meant that some modifications had to be make in order to make room for enough seats but still lacked a enough for the amount. Several architeks couldn't help but smile seeing what they saw as their handiwork in the repair and modification of the craft being shown off more or less and had swelled with pride.

"Greetings milord." a mechanical voice echoed out of the Fire Raptor as well as a much more pompous voice and a harsh female voice was also added to the choir as it was made apparent that a few people were already on board.

"Lord Artificer Kryole, High King Vendric, Canoness Superior Artormis." The Lord Regent named off the three members of his administration he clearly did not expect to see, "Sir Amastov, here are the heads of my Officio Fabricus, the most noble knightly house of Ablnorn and the Ordo Sororitas in that order. Do any of you three know if we'll be expecting anyone else to make a surprise appearance?"

"I fear naught, I believe that the Lord Praetorian Prefect and the Chapter Master of the Knights Eternal have their own duties they must attend to." Canoness Superior Artormis shook her head and shrugged.

"Shame." Karthis sighed before turning to Gregori, "Seeing as there's only but limited room in my transport, would you be comfortable with only allowing you, your major attendants and a few guards on? I myself will be limiting myself to the same requests once we board and conclude this ceremony."

Gregori nodded and gestured for the Arch Magos, His scribe, Sister Superior Alicia and two other Sororitas to join him. Alicia quickly ordered the rest to remain and guard the Lander. Gregori turned back to Karthis with a well practised smile, "My retinue is prepared.", he then set his eyes upon their transportation. Magos Mathias marveled at the pristine Space marine vessel, impressed by this 'Arks' amount of vaunted tech so far, thought he yet remained ever watchful. When the Knight House's name came up his interest was peaked further, excited by the possibility of seeing one of the legendary Knight Titans of old. Gregorio for his part maintained a mask of only general interest, he resolved to remain more aloof from here on out in order to not give the impression of one easily tricked by shiny objects. The scribe, ever dutiful, glanced at it only long enough to record its existence before returning to his work.

The small party wasted no time embarking upon the ship, Gregori sittng across from where he imagined Karthis would sit, The Sister flanking him. He decided now was the perfect time for a few inquiries for Karthis.

"So, you have a sisters order and Space Marine chapter aboard? I have seen few armored sisters though, any reason?"

As the party of leaders piled on into the Fire Raptor, Karthis gave the order for most of his men to file out, their parts played. Leaving in neat lines, the same as the ones they walked coming in, the room was now much more empty. Only a squad of guardsmen remained, half of them in the hanger and the other half just outside as the engines of various vehicles sputtered to life, just in case. They look at their foreign guest with a dutiful face, not wishing to incite anything unnecessary incidents on behalf of their lords. Taking positions along the wall near the door, they saluted farewell to Karthis and Gregori as the door of their transport closed and the craft began its travel into the void.

Artormis was sat the closest to Karthis in her finely repaired suit of power armor, showing only hints of its sororitas origins after so many repairs and modifications; including several small thrusters and boosters located strategically around the suit, all linked up via a bundle of wires to the nape of the Canoness Superior's neck. The armor was in large part black and silver with a few crimson rims but on the insides of her cape was a bright, blood red crimson. Her armor in general just seemed less restricting compared to the power armor worn by the sister superior which Gregori had brought along. It was no doubt a design choice that would not hinder her movement which would be necessary to wield the very exotic looking twin-bladed sword-spear Artormis carried which she called a "War Dancer Lance", carried by more sisters than just her named the "Asrai Bladestorm"

Next to her was a gaudy looking man whose very presence casted a noble, refined aurora as his robes and garments shimmered and shone with fine craftsmanship fit for a High King of Knights such as himself. Two pieces of his regalia that stood out the most was his Oathblade that was strapped to his side and his Guided Crown of Attuning that bounced off even the dim light of the Fire Raptor's interior. Despite all of this, one could tell that there was something just a bit... off about the High King Vendric even if they couldn't quite put their tongue as to why he game off an air of delusion.

Across from the High King was the Lord Artificer of the architeks, Kryole the Tomb Raider, a moniker stemming from a successful raid on a small Necron tomb on some far away moon which granted him his current weapon of choice that crackled with a wonderful green glow, the Axe of Halation. Kryole always had an interest in studying xenos technology (the heretek blood in him being quite strong it would seem), with him almost always being found trying to take apart some old eldar weapon or taking copious amounts of notes on necron wargear. Its said that he alone accounted for a fifth of the ship's total data usage and parchment stocks. He was the most mechanically enhanced of all his brothers of the Officio Fabricus but he still paled in comparison to that of the Arch Magos near him and still looked very much human. An enhanced eye, breathing apparatus, a pair or artificial arms and reinforced legs, and a single mechandrite was all he had to show along with a handful of organs he'd rather not show.

"I guess you could call them an order of battle sisters but that would leave out some details I feel; I believe Canoness Superior Artormis would be able to give a much better explanation. As to why they lack power armor, tis merely because we do not have so many stocks of power armor befitting for normal humans. Only the best and highest ranking are given allowance to such armors although that is not to discount the skill or even equipment of the regular sisters-at-arms for their weapons have been modified by some of my fleet's more exotic crewmen to pack quite a punch. Now, Canoness Superior, you may have your honors."

"Thank you milord." the white haired lady cleared her throat, "We are the Ordo Sororitas, taking lead from the Adepta Sororitas before us, but we follow not the Imperial Cult, but the words of the Emperor himself." Pulling out her copy of the Libre Imperialis, the Canoness Superior displayed it with pride to the guests, "This is the collected works of the Emperor, based on knowledge long since lost but recovered from a holy artifact which the Karthis dynasty has safeguard for centuries: a recording of one of the Emperor's speeches. From his Imperial Truth, we derive our thoughts in a most purest way to preserve his very words of progress and betterment of humanity for the time which he comes to lead us once more. Not the foul beast which now reigns over the Warp as its newest, vile diety, but the true, glorious form of the very pinnacle of what man could be, the real Emperor of Mankind!"

There was a silence in the transport as the sister concluded her zealous speech. While only High King Vendric openly applauded, it was easy to see that the rest of Karthis's party was smiling or showing some other form of subtle agreement and pride.

The Spidery and extremely augmented Arch Magos observed his counterpart within the passenger compartment, and decided to test this 'Tech Priest' by speaking to it in binary, +++Your designation within the Hierarchy of the Cult Mechanicus, I would hear it lesser augmented 'Lord Artificer' Kryole+++, his many mechadentrites scanning and handling the walls of the transport as well as fiddling with assorted gadgets around his person as the mess of green 'eyes' that made up the Magos' face stared down his lesser augmented and smaller 'kin'.

Gregori for his part took in all the new occupants, noting the quirks and details of each. Of all of them only the High King raised any real flags. Gregori assumed he was the Patriarch of the Knight house on board, but he seemed... off in one way or another. Perhaps Knight pilots were simply this way outside of their titans? Gregori was unsure as information on the Knight Houses was scattered at best, after all none had been within any of the nearby systems before the Astronomicons collapse so he had to assume this 'High Kings' house was from farther afield. It was only when the Canoness Superior began preaching that Gregori took note. More because he could feel the rage of Sister Superior Alicia even with her full suit and helmet on. He debated wether or not to tell her to calm down, but realized that eventually the sisters would cause some problem with this seemingly new branch of Imperial faith, better to let them do so when he could intervene if need be.

Upon the completeion of the Canoness' speech Alicia seemed she could hold it in no longer, the clapping hands of the High King silenced as she spoke in a low, almost guttural growl, "Heretics.", she sneered at the canoness and attendants. "How dare you peddle such fowl lies before the Embodiment of his will?! The words of the Emperor are his! Yet you dare to follow the teachings of ancient, decayed recordings?! Lord Emperor Gregori Amaztov is the Emperor's will reborn in human form and yet you claim divinity from naught but echoes?!"

The Sister superior was now nearly shouting, and her attendants sisters seemed to glare even through their helmets at the others present. Gregori seemed unfazed, not smiling nor frowning as his lead bodyguard seemed ready to pull her sword from its sheathe as she continued to rant. "And you would claim to be descendent of the Adepta Sororitas?! You are less than a shadow!", she sneered at the Canoness of the Ordo Sororitas, "The Embodiment of his will stands before you and you have not proclaimed yet your blade?! Perhaps it would be forgivable as you have not the Holiest of Texts from our order, but only if you still worshipped him on his throne, but instead you claim these... these... echoes are worthy to preach?! Lies and Heresy! You wi-", Only now did Gregori intervene.

"Sister Superior Alicia you will do nothing, and they will do nothing you order them too. Sit, you are my Protector not my preacher. Sit and silence before I strip you personally of rank and declare you for the Repentia for disrespecting my presence.", Alicia's face was obsured by her helm, but it went sheet white as she silenced herself and sat back down, trembling ever so slightly from being scolded and threatened by her god. Gregori turned to Karthis and his retinue, "I do apologize. The Mourning Maidens believe I am the Embodiment of the Emperor's will made flesh. It is a faction within the Imperium Reborns Eclesiassrchy that has begun to gain traction without my interference, though I endorse no sect myself.", Gregori admitted. "A certain... freedom of interpretation is needed in this new age, wouldn't you agree Lord Karthis?", Gregori said, hoping he had made his point by letting the sister have her little outburst.

There was a collective, amused sigh from the side of Karthis, clearly they had dealt with many zealots of Alicia's kind and had long gotten over any rage which might rise up to the point it was blunted to more annoyance than anything at this stage, "I would have to agree... Emperor Gregori?" Karthis still wasn't quite sure on how to formally greet his compatriot but Emperor seemed like a decent starting point, "Although there still must be a heavy hand in guidance as well, less the sheep of the Emperor be guided astray from his light unto savage wolves."

Karthis then turned to the Sister Superior and in a calm, almost rehersed voice, explained, "The both of us follow the words of the Emperor from long ago but perhaps have heard different dictions of his vocabulary. However, we do not 'worship' his words as a divine canon but instead look to it as a guidance on our path of life. He is the most perfect incarnation of man, showing that even as a mortal he became something akin to a god. We do not demand that you convert or follow our interpertaions, simply that you acknolweged that we too are but humble servants and followers to the Emperor and not the wickedness of Chaos and do not attempt to force your own ideals on to ours. Live and let live as one might say. That said, I am more than willing to show you the 'echo' which we follow provided you do not immediately declare a fabrication or heresy; tis a recording of one of the Emperor's very speeches of which all of our thinking comes from good Sister Superior."

"Well spoken my lord!" High King Vendric interjected himself with great boasting, "The honorable and noble knights of House Albnorn would never wage glorious battle for anyone but the Emperor!"

Leaning over to Gregori, he whispered in his ear in a low voice, the most noble ramblings of the HIgh King drowning out anyone else who would attempt to hear it, "Please excuse the High King; he and his House have some... interesting self reflections which has only intensified and become the norm since the time of his ancestors. I assure that despite his eccentricities, he is a very loyal servant of the Emperor and a most courageous and respected warrior and honored High King."

As the others spoke in low gothic and the speech about the glory of House Ablnorn faded with some dramatic hand motions and how great their knights where, the Lord Artificer replied to his counterpart in rusty binary, his lack of usage clear as he processed and replied at speeds that would be considered slow by the Arch Magos with minor failings in his speech, +++I no part of the Cult Mechanicus... honored Magos. I am of Officio Fabricus, different than the Cult Mechanicus... Like the thoughts of Lord Regent Karthis.. we too hold Omnissiah in holy... but differ in practical application than normal orthodontist of the Cult Mechanicus... Architeks and Enginseers are two of the same but different... May I asked on... you thoughts on this trip so afar?+++ The Lord Artificer attempted some small talk with honest curiosity, wondering of what the Arch Magos was thinking at this moment.

Sister Superior Alicia seemed to glower at the amused retinues of the Ark and Karthis after her outburst. Gregori Simply nodded as Karthis explained how his ideals and the Sisters could remain... at least neutral to one another. His interest peaked at the mention of a recording of the Emperor himself. "Indeed Lord Karthis? Such a recording would be... quite interesting to hear I must admit. But, I believe we must arrive first at... where will we be meeting Lord Karthis? Exactly?", the young Emperor looked out of the small window near him at the rapidly moving landscape, wondering how much longer this would take.

The Arch Magos could not care less about the arguments or discussions of the others, his many bionic eyes cycled and analyzed this... 'Architec' as his many dentrites cycled about his person. The slow, stunted binary was not earning the strange priest any positive opinion, making the Arch magos suspicious as another burst of binary escaped the vox unit that had long ago supplanted his own vocal chords. "+++Explain Techpriest. Officio Fabricus? My thoughts? Thus far... adequate. No notable heresies... all seems well. But I have yet to see your Knights. You do have them yes?! A Knight house?", if it were possible for chirps of binary to sounds excited then the Arch Magos certainly was.

“We’re heading a private room meant for the meeting of dignitaries which we should be arriving at soon.” A quick word from the pilot over the intercom confirmed Karthis’s words, “At any rate, I will be more than happy to show you one of the copies of the speech. The original has been kept away in hiding and heavily guarded for obvious reasons.”

Separate from the main conversation, Lord Artificer Kryole modified mind attempted to recall as much binary as it could while also carefully trying to construct dialogue which wouldn’t sour the mood, +++Please, do no call me ‘Techpriest’… we Architeks close but to confuse us width… your holy Techpriests, it would be an… disservice… to the both of use. The Officio Fabricus is what one could call thy… Adept Mechanicus of the Ark Imperialis with… again its own differences.+++

With a quite break to refresh himself and his translation efforts, Kryole continued, +++We have no-bell Knights… of the the sort… not that of them… you may think of but still grate… and praiseworthy… still momentous to the Machine God yes.+++

Gregori nodded, understanding the need to protect such a possibly vaunted artifact. "Of course, I impatiently await our coming negotiations, and your re-introduction to the Imperium.", he stated plainly.

The sound of the Magos' eyes cycling signaled the fact he was clearly thinking, and a squeal of machinery that almost sounded dissapointed before he spoak in another burst of binary.

"+++No Bell Knights? I am interested in seeing your... replacements for them, hopefully they will not dissapoint. Not call you tech-priest? Does the Officio Fabricus not intend to dissolve back into the greater machine cult?+++", the Arch Magos asked confused and somewhat discontent.

"+++Your Binary, it is so broken. Are you experiencing difficulty with your vox unit? You seem out of practice 'Architek'", said the Arch Magos somewhat perturbed now.

Soured lips were held well at the sound of "re-introduction into the Imperium" but Karthis hid it well. If only Gregori knew how many other "Emperors" made that same proposal, each proclaiming their claims to be the truest and most divine of all. His mood was shared by everyone on his side of the craft as it came into a landing bay but like him, they hide their discontent well. The air did not change at all as Karthis just smiled while the craft hit the deck with a soft thud.

A burst of air flooded the compartment as pressure equalized and the door opened to a small handful of astartes and war maidens who bowed politely at the the sight of the Lord Regent and his guest. "After you." Karthis got up and gestured out into a richly decorated but utilitarian hanger, not unlike the one which Gregori had arrived on only with more turrets.

Following his comrades, the Lord Architek followed the lead of Karthis and stood up but continued his dicussion in (broken) binary, "+++Too me the Nights will not disappoint... beauty they arts... And yas... my binery is uncommon used... tis not come on spaaking on the Ark... we Architeks speak the come on Gothic... of erryone else...+++"

As Kryole, brushed himself off and got in line to disembark, he thought of how to approach the very trick question regarding the cult mechanicus. To him, there were machine gods and a perfect plan of everything, but was there an Omnissiah and the blessed cogs and gears? If this remnant of the backwards cult of the machine god realized that he and every single architek on the ship, no, in the fleet, was more or less a heretek or the child of one, how would he react? With a deep breath of air filling his enhanced lungs, Kryole turned to the Magos with a confident smile through his mask, his face unblemished by copious wirings and tubing, and said in Gothic, "I believe the real question is, would the greater machine cult allow us to become one with them again?"

With his red robe flowing in the artificial breeze, Kryole turned and marched down the ramp and took his place next to Karthis with the rest of his retinue as they mounted an elevator toward the proper meeting room. It was a largely silent trip but ended with a small "ding" and walk down the hall to a meeting room. It was charming and quaint, a fireplace burned with life as the polish wooden table held papers and dataslates from a previous meeting. Chairs were stuffed and well cared for and were even all made of a uniform piece of fabric with no patch workings. Cogitators and screens were tucked into corners and recessed in the wall, all flashing some form of data that one of the members of Karthis's retinue knew exactly what it was.

Taking a seat in the row of chairs on the far wall, the Lord Regent sat in front of a painting of the Emperor when he lead the Legio Astartes in the Ullanor Crusade, his friends soon followed, "Welcome, Emperor Gregori, to the formal discussion area."

Gregori had been taught to read people long ago. His family had a firm rule regarding its leadership and the Emperor was no exception. Schooled in the arts of diplomacy, negotiation, politicking and subterfuge from the day he was born. Clearly Lord Regent Karthis was good at hiding his true emotions... his fellows not quite as so. Subtle movements, the shifting of eyes and an uncomfortable shuffle of positioning or a misplaced cough and well timed sigh were all Gregori needed to know he was not the first to offer them a return to the Imperium, but he endeavoured to be the last this day. He kept his smile as he walked along next to Lord Regent Karthis and not behind while his guards remained within arms reach.

The Arch Magos was becoming antsy in speaking to this 'Architek', with his broken and dis-used binary, his lack of augmentation, the way he spoke about their supposed 'Knights' it was all putting the Magos off quite a bit. His spidery appendages and many mechadentrites writhing as he exited the ship along with the Architek, taken aback when the Architek spoke to him in gothic, "+++We will have to see..."

Upon reaching the true meeting room Gregori took a seat across from his counterpart and nodded, "Very good, so we may begin the true talks. So Lord Regent Karthis what are your terms? The Imperium Reborn is ready and prepared to accept your re-admittance, providing several things of course but I would like to hear what you expect."

"I am afraid I will have to stop you right there Emperor Gregori." Karthis raise his hand once Gregori had finished, "As of right now, my fleet seek no place to reabsorb as currently there are none which we find... suitable." This wasn't anything against Gregori really but once you saw a few dozen of these petty Imperiums, you've seen them all. And Karthis had seen a few hundred. "You are not the first to offer such a generous proposal and I have no doubts that you will be the last. But surely you must have already seen what kind of conflict would arise should we attempt cohabitation. Our people will... not mesh well shall we say."

An obvious reference to the rather explosive outburst in the transport from earlier, Karthis hoped Gregori would understand. That said, Karthis wasn't above trying to leaverage the situation in his favor. "However, if you are so generous to allow for it, I would like to ask if me and my fleet be able to rest in your space for a time and be given basic supplies such as food and materials. In exchange, I can provide you with fire support from this fleet. Surely that must constitute for something, no?

Gregori laughed. He smiled and gestured to the Sisters as well as his other fellow staff, "Please, do leave us to speak.", Sister Superior Alicia was about to protest when gregori shot another look at her, and she simply about faced and ordered the sisters out of the meeting room, save her. Gregori placed a hand in the way of his scribes auto-quill to get his attention and simply nodded to the door. He then looked back to Karthis and company, "Lord Karthis, if you'll permit me I'd like to speak one man to another, a leader of men to a leader of men free of distraction. Please, give me this courtesy before we decide on any actions or decisions.". he flashed a clean smile at the Lord regent, his eyes looking at Karthis in the same way a hunter would watch difficult prey, analyzing every crease of his opposites face and every quirk he could.

Only fools back down when challenged.

Internally sighing, Karthis motioned for his entourage to leave the room. Even the guards left only to be replaced by a pair of armed security servitor who would be unable to process anything in the conversation, only there to hold guns at Gregori should something unexpected happen. This man was a stubborn one, possibly full of himself too but that wasn't part of the primary matter at hand. The 'Emperor' had his empty chamber to speak with Karthis and Karthis alone, the Lord Regent was curious as to how Gregori would other wise convince him to join. Coercion? Threats? Blackmail? Pleading? Force?

"You have your solidarity Gregori." Karthis flatly stated, clearly unperturbed as he stood up and straightened his back, "Do tell me what you wish to speak with me in such hidden privacy about." A purely redundant question of course for Karthis already knew what this was about as did a few members of his retinue did possibly.

Gregori smiled and stood, drew his laspistol... and placed it on one of the many small tables. He removed his peaked cap, and unclasped his cape as well. Placing both on the chair he had been sitting on. Then, he turned to Lord Regent Karthis, his face was no longer a warm smile, but instead held a look of determination, solidarity, and if one looked close enough perhaps even hope.

"Lord regent Karthis I do not claim to be a god. I am not the Emperor's will embodied, I am not a child of his grace tht once sat on the throne or the Lord of all Humanity. I am Gregori Amastov of the Amastov family line and I did not come here for an alliance, or to offer you allegiance. I came to see what kind of man you are. What kind of Leader you are and how your people live on this Mighty floating wreck. I must say you have lived up to my expectations thus far... in all but one aspect, and that is how very tired you are."

Gregori stood with impeccable posture before the Lord Regent, his voice carrying easily without even coming close to shouting as he stretched his oratory muscles.

"Each time I have mentioned joining the Imperium Reborn, every word you have said to me and the interactions of all your staff have betrayed to me how very tired this place is. How long have you and your family traversed this terrible void? How long have you watched your people struggle day in and day out knowing that each time you move on could be your last? How long have you known that one day you will travel to a doom you cannot escape from? From the looks of it the answer to all these things is quite some time."

Now Gregori walked, sure and measured steps around the room to come before the fire-place into which he now gazed, before taking the nearby poker and jamming it into the middle log, snapping it in half and causing a small blaze to erupt from which he did not shield his eyes. Its main fuel quickly began to burn off, soon only licks of flame escaped the glowing cinders. He looked back at Karthis.

"Your recording... its what has kept you isn't it? I imagine it fuels you yes? His holy words true or not? It is a glimmer, a shard, an echo and a ghost... of hope.", he deftly used the poker to toss a small log on the fire and stirred up the embers, quickly it cauht, but it was not long before it began to wither.

"We need more than a Glimmer Lord Karthis. Us, your people and mine. We need something tangible, and something more permanent. A Glimmer is how all hope starts but the only way to sustain it is with the flame it inspires. In people, in civilians and soldiers, in Gods and in Men, in leaders and the lead. And A glimmer can only feed from so much before it is engulfed and fed upon by the buzzards."

The poker was jammed into the core of a much larger log, which Gregori carefully held in the embers and flame of the withering smaller one, before letting it rest as the flames took their hold.

"Its time to stop relying on a glimmer Lord Karthis. Together we can provide fuel upon which this pilot light can flourish, our bodies and time and resources shall be our sacrifice to Hope. Together, it may be just enough, but you must be willing to give yourself to both our people, and make them one... as must I. It is time to rouse yourself oh tired Lord Regent. It is time to learn you needn't be tired any longer. After all, you and I have far too much work to do to be tired... don't we?"

Gregori turned to him, face full of energy and determination, a rebellious smile on his lips as he let the poker rest, stuck in the thick log. He offered his hand, but did not move. Karthis would need to walk to him in order to accept it.

Following suit with his esteemed guest, Karthis also laid his arms out on the table to show he was not armed. The last thing that needed to happen would be a gunfight. Karthis studied Gregori’s words and actions as he began to prod at the fire place as if he owned it. Karthis put some significant effort to mask his displeasure when Gregori referred to his fleet as a “mighty floating wreck”. It may have lacked the luster of his own gaudy ships, but they carried lives and knowledge innumerable.

“This journey has been long and hard yes, but I do not tire of it yet.” Karthis rebutted Gregori’s words, “For it is the duty of my family and everyone on board this fleet to keep travelling and collecting. We do not tire, you only perceive it as tireness because you do not know what it is like to straing yourself. Look to any scripture from any time period and it will say ‘to struggle is to live, to defy the odds, to defy death. We have traveled for many decades in this age of darkness and we will continue to do so until the Emperor returns to us. It is not an easy nor comfortable task, but when was the last time you truly had a struggle on your hands?”

With his words growing deeper, Karthis reached for his flask and took a sip of water, ignoring the selection of drinks he walked by as he paced around the room in his own little pattern. Gregori practically leaked with the scent of a comfortable, pampered life, his every wish fulfilled and oppulance granting him all he could fesably want.

“Do tell me, ‘Emperor’, when was the last time you starved with your people? When was the last time you gave your food to someone else who needed it while your gut desperately called for nourishment? When was the last time you allowed yourself to be in the dark without power so someone else could see the light? When was the last time you got off your high throne and really took a good at your people? Do you even understand what your people go through? Or have you been blinded by reports beyond count with skewed numbers to please you? Do you even know what a beggar looks like? Or do you have them all ‘removed’?”

With a long stride, Karthis found himself staring into the painting of the Emperor on the eve of his Great Crusade, legion of astartes behind his glorious flaming sword. But his eye were not focused on the master of mankind. Instead, Karthis had his eyes drawn to a tiny sheet of printed metal that spelled out the artist’s name who created the workd, created the retelling of this exact moment in history.

“Your people may need you to stoke their flames in fear the dark will devour them but mine do not. You need something more than a glimmer since you fear not what if it disappears, but what if you are no longer the brightest flame. My people do not need any more because to them, even the faintest sparks gives them hope, each one able to burn like a bonfire. You wish to ally me out of fear because you don’t want to be the first to fall into the abyss. And yes, both of us have many responsibilities that keep us from feeling fatigue, but only one of us is really working.”

Without saying a word, Karthis brought up his Libre Imperialis and pulled out a copy of the recording, spinning on his heels to put it into a slot in the table's side. With a whirring sound, the machine spirit woke up from its slumber and with a flicker, displayed a most noble image. It was that of the Emperor, and even millennia after his passing and in holographic form, he still produced an air about him which no one could pinpoint but could also not deny.

His words echoed and resonated, overflowing in his booming voice and endless charisma as he himself espoused his ideas on how mankind was to be. How man was star bound for greatness, the galaxy for their taking; an endless ocean of twinkling, glimmering stars all to be part of mankind's next evolutionary phase. A manifest destiny one could say. He decried what the damage superstition and religion had done with great zeal and passion that could bring a full grown man to tears. His ever sentence, no every word brought forth hope and fervor to his cause as the background clapping became louder and louder but still muted out by the Emperor's voice. And with a final heroic raise of his sword, the figure of the Emperor exclaimed, "FOR THE IMPERIUM! FOR MANKIND! IMPERIUM AETERNUM!"

With the recording now done, Karthis removed it and returned it to its nest within the pages of his book. Now by the fireplace as well, Karthis pulled out his own, duller poker and shattered the log which Gregori was poking at before dragging a new one on top to take its place, a small, glowing knot of it fall off and onto the fire pit’s stone ground, burning just as brightly as ever.

Walking closer to Gregori, Karthis stuck out his own hand, just a few inches away from his counterpart's; close enough to signify he was willing to work with him, but far enough so that he would have to make the move, "We are all the creation of his holiness and he is our divine father. I do not tire of my duties as is required of me from my people to carry on the legacy of the Old Imperium but I am willing to work where I see opportunity. I am willing to allow the use of my ships and men to carry arms under your banner but serve under my name. I can offer knowledge which my predecessors and I have gathered from our time 'traveling against the path of doom which we will one day no longer be able to out run' in the void. In exchange, I would like supplies and resources and autonomy from your own organizations. I fear that our conflicting views which our respective citizens also have will not be able to mix very well. Are we in agreement... Battle Brother?"

Gregori didn't move. The hands of the men hovered inches from each other, one needed merely nudge his hand forward to complete the shake but neither did. Instead Greogri's other hand rose and grasped Karthis at his wrist, his eyes staring into the Lord Regent's own, all warmth in them gone.

"And so your great struggle continues then Karthis. For it is, so terrible. For you starve with your people and sit with them in the cold, long dark to comfort you. For truly you are a leader who cares. And I will return to ensuring my people don't starve with supplies from my own stockpiles, that our lights remain on by sponsoring the Mechanicus improving our generators and the materials they use. I will return to my waiting armies who I will use to expand in order to no longer need to struggle to feed my planets, or keep their power on or arm my military to defend them."

Gregori's grip tightend in emphasis as he continued, his other hand dropping.

"Karthis, I will not pay for a mercenary company with members who do not fight, for that is what you are asking. That I give you food and supplies that I cannot afford to give you for an army. I have an army Lord Karthis, I do not need a mercenary company who does not fight. I did not come here for that, and if that is all you can offer than I am afraid you will have to move on."

Gregori released Lord Karthis, and straightened his gloves before continuing.

"The point of struggle is to evenetually overcome what it is you struggle against, not eternally rail against it. Say what you wish of money and privilege but it is a universal truth that all struggle Lord Karthis, we simply do not all struggle the same way. In the Imperium Reborn my people are free to worship how or who they please so long as it is not the more... unsavory deities of the warp. Xenos live and work amongst the human race. Some worship me, others do not. Your integration would require but a few things of you. But, so be it. You may tell your people of how I refused to provide help and demonize me as you prepare to leave once more into the warp. But know that I offered a way out, a door away from your myriad struggles and you refused it... this is a chance to do more than just survive! But I cannot force you to anything Lord Regent Karthis."

A moment of silent, a break of pause. And then, laughter. Karthis began to chuckle, doing his best to stifle it. Covering his mouth with his free hand, the Lord Regent soon regained composure, lips formed into a definite smile, “And now the true Gregori Amastov comes out. Nice to finally meet you Emperor Gregori.”

Taking a step back, Karthis mused to himself internally, weighing his mental scales. In his current state, Gregori would be memorable as few chose to go this route. That said, the fear of harsh voices and physical confrontation had long worn off on Karthis. Such things tend to happen when you ship has a chance of being boarded by daemons at regular intervals, such was the life of a migrant fleet.

“Your Imperium sounds quite utopian now. Although I still fear that just because you may be okay with the freedom to express one’s self, I doubt that means the entirety of your populace is in agreement. Even in your own retinue, its clear that even between you and your own Sister of Battle that there are ideological lines.”

Standing back at straight attention and with a more formal voice, the Lord Regent took up his most noble posture and set about to exude and aura of rank and leadership, channeling whatever charisma he had.

“That said, I am willing to integrate into your Imperium so long that I remain in control of some of my assists. I will do my best to share resources with you, whatever my ‘mighty floating junk fleet’ can provide I will attempt to do so. My soldiers shall carry your banners and my people will know your name. However, I would like personal oversight into the integration process, with your in put of course. I believe we both know that its not is not the easiest thing to displace a cruiser full of people somewhere new along with any cultural and theological differences and I do not think that you know this fleet nor its people well enough to handle it from this side.”

Taking a deep breath, Karthi finished his acceptance of integration into this petty Imperium for now.

“And so I will commit my resources to your cause in securing the basic necessities of resources for your people. However, I refuse to levy troops in wars of simple petty power struggles, I must make that clear; I do pray that such a day will never happen.”

Karthis’s mind was sighing; people always wanted more power, more resources, more something. Enough wasn’t ever enough and there was a strong feeling that once Gregori had what he needed, he’d fabricate a claim that he would need something else and this is how Slaaneshi heresy starts, with excess and the need for more. But that was an issue for some other time.

“And on a passing not, we do survive not to live, but survive to protect. As you’ve seen here, we are carrying some items of… notable worth. So, shall we now finally sign the pact?”

Gregori smiled turned away from Karthis, and another into the fold. "Of course. Your requests are sound and easily allowed. We can discuss things more in detail with our full retinues, after all Karthis you are now one of the most powerful men in the system,", he picked up a glass of the fine amasec, pouring a glass for himself and one for Karthis, "You will no longer need to starve, or be stuck in the dark. You and your people now have my full support.", he smiled and offered the glass.

"To an Imperium Reborn!"

Taking the glass of amasec in his hand, he held it up to Gregori's, just a little bit higher than his. With a small "clink" Karthis toasted and took small sips to savor the taste rather than downing the fine drink all at once. Refreshed he began the walk out with Gregori, no doubt to escort him elsewhere or back to his transport after Karthis's last four words in the meeting room faded into the air:

"An Imperium Aeturnum."

"Approaching drop zone," announced the pilot in his calm, collected voice that failed to reflect how grave their flight was. He was a fine pilot, made finer by his unshakeable nerves and willingness to pilot the wolves' suicide missions, which as the chapter grew smaller, they all became.

Askeladd in his terminator armour approached the bay doors as diagnostics on played across his visor, confirming that everything was as it was meant to be. Even if it hadn't been, there were no serfs or tech priests to provide the necessary support. His visor then confirmed that across the board all wolves were prepared for their next battle. Eager, even.

They ship lurched violently and beyond the hull the wolves could hear the firing of only a single fuselage-mounted bolter firing. "Be swift," the lord ordered his pilot. As if Eiryk had read his mind, he manually actiaved the bay door, ehich split open to the display of a field of corpses across which armies still marched. Askeladden was the first to step, dropping the few meters from the slowed, but still moving bird. The bones and gore of the battlefield crunched and squished beneath his armoured feet, freeting the following wolves the same.

He took a moment to survey the battlefield as the wolves around him fell into position, taking a moment to parse out the remaining distance to the Magos. "Magos Fekten, we are approaching on foot. We will be clearinf the way through them, dtraight to the breach and to your men. Keep track of my position and avoid unnecessary crossfire."

Small arms fired pelted their shields and armour, doing little more than scratching the paint in most cases. Rune Priest Canis stepped forth from the formation then and breathed deeply, sucking in all of the air that lingered around him and held it. Then, as the air left his lungs, so had the warmth left the air. Violent winds grew suddenly as clouds began to twist and take shape above them. Hail like jagged blades began to pour, while rosring winds pulled cultist's feet out from under them. "I fear I may be growing old," gasped Canis, now surrounded by the wolves. "I have opened a path, for how long I am uncertain."

"Then we march," commanded Askeladd, crashing his claws together. The wolves chased the storm, only slowing to deliver finishing blows to those who had lost their footing under the winds or that were sticken and bloodied by the falling ice. Blood froze to their weapons, frozen streks splayed across their lord's arms and claws, on their Blood's shields. Gore was caked and frozen to their boots and though their armour was superb, they still felt the chill in their bones from the old rune priest's psychic attack.

Near the breach the blizzard had already begun to die, all in time for the wolves to make thwir final push into the Magos's bulwark. "We have arrived," announced the wolf lord, ever the one to state the obvious.

The Wandering Chronos, Ordo Chronos Quarters, Master Alexius' Chambers, A week after the Meeting Aboard Saint' Chariot

@Hecticlord,@Wraithblade6

Alexius and the Ordo were being swamped. He hadn't had the opportunity to send the full requisition reports to Lord Corbec, he and his Ordo were busy trying to figure out who had infiltrated the Errant Cohort Fleet based on what they'd accumulated aboard the Battleship. Interrogating practically everyone aboard the ship had come up with nothing besides Alexius' suspicions having been proven about some members of his Inquisitors' retinues having loose tongues around others while in service off of the ship when it came to salacious rumours within the Ordo. Suitable disciplinary action had been taken, but it hadn't put Alexius' concerns to rest.

Aside from that, the Ordo was divided on how to proceed with its new role now that the Errant Cohort had been transferred out of their leadership into that of the Lord-Militant's. This freed them up for their true tasks, but between reports of planetside problems on Arexia Prime, their own suspicious infiltration problems, just generally overseeing the massive forces within the new Imperium's growing fleet and armies, they didn't know where to start.

To this end, Alexius had assembled the more senior members of his Ordo, his Lord Inquisitors: Gerion, Faustus, Beatrix, and Xanthous to discuss the matter and arrange their strategy for the Inquisitors under their purviews. Gerion's would follow up this case of infiltration within their fleet, Faustus' would be in charge of dealing with future incidents involving the Imperium's fleet and armies, Beatrix' would help where they were needed on cases involving the civilian aspects of the Imperium, and Xanthous' would for now see to inducting more Inquisitors into the Ordo, since they could benefit from some more numbers in the future.

He dismissed them to begin preparing their Inquisitors for their assigned tasks, while he called privately for Inquisitor Varius Malodrax and began writing his message to Lord Corbec, it was an attachment to the manifests and lists of all forces within the Errant Cohort and all data they had on them. The data told a simple story in its long files, the Errant Cohort was a mess of a military unit. Millions of forces made up its numbers, mostly human but coming from hundreds of different worlds and regiments, many without surviving commanders or impromptu officers who arose out of pure might or wit rather than ability, and many with their own unique sub-cultures that could clash or cohere well with various others. Then there were the Xenos units, though vastly outnumbered by their human counterparts, a couple of Kroot Battlespheres and other Tau exiles had forces within the fleet, a couple tribes of Jokareo were in attendance, and even more unfamiliar Xenos contributed the odd airship to their cause, their allegiances were to Alexius, whom assured they would be fairly treated under the Lord-Militant so long as they showed him the same loyalty as they had him.

As for the personal attachment itself was basically encrypted with a standard Imperial Guard key but labelled for the Lord Militant's eyes only. It read as follows:

+++Decryption Successful+++

Lord Corbec,

As an accompaniment to the data you asked for about my former forces and fleet, I have taken it upon myself to an issue a warning to you. It has come to light that weeks prior, someone accessed this data and in all likelihood even more from the cogitators of the Errant Cohort fleet. While you can be assured my Ordo is working to get to the bottom of WHO did this, I advise you to beware of any suspicious activity among your troops or within the fleet. I fear whoever tried to take this data did not do so with benevolent intentions, and may seek to undermine your authority, or the integrity of said assets to our new Imperium. Be vigilant, and report any suspicious occurrences that could be tied to this matter to myself, or if I cannot be reached, to Lord Inquisitor Ignatius Faustus, as he and his Inquisitors will be in charge of investigating matters regarding your forces and those of the rest of the Imperium.

The Emperor Protects,

Master Alexius Commenus of the Ordo Chronos, and of the Inquisition of the Imperium Reborn

Shortly after, he had finished typing his message, Varius entered.

"You summoned me, Master?"

"Yes, Inquisitor Varius. As of right now, you shall be removed from Lord Inquisitor Gerion' purview and put under Special Assignment to report directly to me."

Inquisitor Varius maintaining his composure but bowing slightly to try and avoid Alexius' gaze, he knew the Master was an excellent judge of a person through their eyes and didn't want him to see his surprise.

"As you wish, sir, and what exactly is my Special Assignment?"

Alexius smiled from behind his desk.

"I believe you already know, Inquisitor. You and your retinue shall be overseeing the Relictors until they have proven themselves and their Captain Lattore has fulfilled his end of the deal we struck which you witnessed. You are the only other aboard who knows of the Artifact they guard besides myself, and the Captain seems to trust you, therefore you are the most well-suited to this task. Observe them, guide them where they seek it as my representative, perform the Emperor's will as is needed and required of you, and do not disappoint me or your Ordo."

Inquisitor Varius made the sign of the Aquila.

"I shall make ready to leave to fulfill this task, Master."

Imperial Guard Headquarters, Arexia Prime, Present day

@TemplarKnight07@ClocktowerEchos

Gabriel swore he could feel the beginning of a headache coming on. In the last week several things had happened that had drastically enlarged his workload. First Inquisitor Alexius had sent over the data on the military forces of the Errant Cohort and to be honest it was a mess. Millions of men in who knew how many regiments and the different cultures that they had developed. Though there were also the xenos troops that Gabriel now found under his command which he found surreal. Not to mention the message that the Inquisitor attached to it that made Gabriel worry even more. Secondly the Space Hulk that had dropped in system that turned out to be occupied by humans, and the fact that they had joined the Imperium. This compounded Gabriel's problems as it turned out they had their own version of the Guard that he needed to try to incorporate into the power structure. Lastly the first reports from the underhive were coming in and some of the things they presented made Gabriel worry.

But even for all the work that Gabriel now had he still worked his way through it. First was the military from the Errant Cohort. In the days following the message from Alexius orders started streaming from the Imperial Guard Headquarters. There were consolidation of regiments into something more standardized, the establishment of a clear chain of command, promotions for those worthy to be officers from his ranks, the PDF, and those among the Errant Cohort, and even demotions for those not worthy of command. Most of the xenos troops were left alone for now except for the orders that they would stay behind in the trip to the Forge Moon. While Gabriel knew that this would throw those forces into chaos for a bit, it needed to be done so that they would be ready if they were needed.

Secondly was the forces of the 'Ark Imperialis' as it was called. Corbec could only hope they took his message well.

Lord Regent Karthis,

Hail to a fellow servant of the Imperium. I am Lord-Militant Gabriel Corbec and I am the man in charge of the Imperial Guard in this Imperium. It has come to my attention that you have your own version of the guard, and while this may seem sudden to you I hope to consolidate our commands. As the Imperial Guard may be needed in the upcoming expansions I wish there to be only one chain of command and not multiple that could contradict each other. While i know that you might be loathe to give up command of your men, I would ask at the very least that I could attach a liaison to your headquarters so that we might more easily cooperate and maybe even begin the discussion of how to incorporate your men into the Imperial Guard.

The Emperor Protects,

Lord-Militant Gabriel Corbec, of the Imperial Guard

Lastly was the reports that were coming out of the underhive. Those necessitated a message to Inquisitor Alexius, this one encrypted.

+++Decryption Successful+++

Inquisitor Alexius,

It worries me that someone was able to infiltrate your fleet and I assure you that I will keep a close eye on my men and the fleet. You also asked me to report any suspicious activity to you, and I have found some in the underhive. First off the gangs are to well equipped. Usually the gangs would be equipped with autoguns with the occasional lasgun, but the lasgun seems to be the standard armament. This means that someone has been supplying them with weaponry. Also something else that is strange is the absence of the drug dealers down there. Evidently they just started disappearing and it seems like someone was attempting to exterminate them. Both of these combined makes it seem to me that someone was making a push down here in the underhive, though for what purpose I do not know. My suspicions lie with K'vari as the xeno seems like one of the few that I know of that could discreetly funnel weapons down here, though I do not have any proof. I hope that you can do more with this information than I can.

The Relictor starfort floated like an ungainly hulk amid the small fleet of the Imperium Reborn toward the Revelius sector, where the forge moon Amatheus awaited in an unknown state between prosperity and destruction. Surroundng it was a cohort of ships, which included those owned by Ishitta, Tyro, Karthis, Corbec, K'Vari, Commenus, and of course Amastov. The fleet definitely needed some organization. Millenia had passed since the last acurrate reports about the forgemoon were had. As far as anyone in the new imperium knew, the Tau probably owned it by now. Without warp navagation, travel would be slow, but the Revelius system was thankfully close enough that Arexia Prime would be capable of defending it. Traveling as swiftly as they dared, not a soul slept without some minutes sacrificed to the anticipation every cycle.

Things aboard the Ramillies starfort were quiet. Captain Lattore sat isolated in contemplation with the relicblade that housed the captive holy spirit of order, a shard of the former Emperor's will. If that's what it was, Leal didn't even know. Since the regrouping and reformation of the Relictor's chapter, Leal had halted all research on the daemonweapons and any chaotic relics that still remained in their posession since their unforgiving decimation at the hands of the Grey Knights and the Emperor's final death. Their focus had been on recovery, repair, and recruitment, and of course to protect and defend any human worlds they came across that were in need of defense that had a chance of survival. But they had been robbed of any relics to speak of by the Ordo Malleus, with the exception of the weapons they had preserved or made during their journey and the secret Diamedes Artifact that remained hidden upon their vessel. The goal had always been of course to return to their unique duties as Relictors in regard to collecting and researching such relics, but in the immediate crisis of the disintegrating Imperium, the risks were far too great. That's how Captain Lattore had seen it.

Psychically, with a soft masculine voice that wasn't even a voice or even a sound at all, the sword spoke to Leal, "You will go to Amatheus, and there, bring the people into the fold. This you will do without bloodshed. Restore peace through order. It is not to be destroyed, for the future of mankind depends on this moon's security..."

It wasn't the first time the sword had spoken to him. In fact, any of their daemonweapons could speak, but listening to them was obviously foolish as they were entities of chaos. This sword though, was unquestionably different. Leal did not answer, but his mind was already made up. He would obey.

Armored footfalls in the hall told of one of his men approaching.

"Captain?" A dark skinned, bald Relictor who appeared to be in his 30's announced his presence.

Leal turned his head and greeted his first lieutenant. "Lieutenant Garwyn." Seeing an anxious expression on the face of his most trusted brother, Leal stood up and became more serious. "What do you have to report?"

Lt. Garwyn entered the room, which was plenty large for a small gathering yet dedicated as a storage room for Lattore's sword. He glanced almost warily at the faintly glowing blade. "I must speak with you sir. I am concerned that you have been spending too much time with the holy sword." Garwyn was pure of heart, courageous, and to the point, which is partly why Lattore relied on him so often. He continued quietly in confidance, his concern sincere. "I must remind you that it is 'daemon,' Leal. Even if it bears the essence of the Emperor of Mankind as you say, it's a warp entity nonetheless." He gave a long look into Leal's eyes, judging him. "And you know what became of the Emperor... Heed me. This is no different, and as your first lieutenant I cannot allow it to continue. I fear you endanger our chapter with this frequent meditation in its presence."

Leal blinked. This is not what he had expected. Coming from Garwyn, the acusation had serious weight, and he had to consider it. "By God... You're right." Leal's grey head turned to glance at the object he had come to consider so reverently. There was no doubt that it had heavily influenced him, but its light had been so benevolent and so powerful in destroying chaos in all its' forms. Had he been right not to question it?

Leal then nodded, his brow furrowed. "Thank you for drawing my attention to this Garwyn. I will hereby remove myself form the sword's presence while aboard the starfort until we can verify the entity's alignment." Leal really hesitated to call it a daemon. "This will of course require reinstatement of our research efforts."

"Thank you captain. And there is one more thing. Some of the men are still loyal to Bardane, and they have been talking. They feel there is no honor to be had in politics, that a space marine's duty is to battle. We Relictors wield a power unmatched by any any other chapter, and any time we spend languishing in disuse is a waste of our strength. Some would even consider it a crime. They long to see us freed from the yolk of this petty imperium and in pursuit of the enemy."

Leal glared at Garwyn. It wasn't his fault, but perpetual return of the sentiments of fools undermined the captain's authority. Artekus Bardane was still haunting him from the grave. Perhaps it was that cursed artifact that Leal had stowed away influencing them, or the daemonweapons. The lust for more power was an easy trap to fall into, especially when excused by the claim to righteous intent. Leal understood it all too clearly. Members of the company felt driven to return to the chapter's old ways, to hunt relics independant of authority, like pirates looking for treasure. They'd fight against the forces of chaos, just as they desired, but in the end, they'd prove insignificant in aiding humanity.

"You must tell them as I have told them before, and perhaps it will sound different coming from you. We are part of the Imperium Reborn now. No, we are not politicians, but there is nothing more effective we can do to aid the restoration of mankind at this moment in history. If this Imperium is to flourish, it needs the might of our weapons, and we need repairs, Garwyn. The forgemoon is home to the mechanicus, there is no better anchor for our starfort. Emperor Amastov will take worlds just as was done in the time of the crusades, and we will grow. He is lenient on development of technology just as he is in permitting the use of our weapons, and I have no doubt that in time, mankind will regain warp travel to be able to defend our empire. But for that to happen, we must remain here, now, while we are needed, guardians of what relics our Imperium will inevitably encounter."

The captain began walking outside into the hall, motioning for Garwyn to approach as he revealed his intentions for their future. "There will come a time when our potential will be maximized as our chapter is assigned specific missions across the galaxy, and we will no longer carry the burden of policing ourselves for corruption alone. These are the times we together long for, but we must be patient. SEE this vision with me, lieutenant. A new and strong Imperium, enlivened with new technology and new understanding of the warp through our careful research." Leal lifted and open hand for emphasis, as if the future were something within reach. He then swept his red cloak behind him and turned to continue walking. "I will not have disobedience and unrest within my chapter..."

Alone in the storage room, the possessed blade glowed softly.

Lord Regent Karthis

@Hecticlord

Having memory of a conversation with someone who wanted him to forfeit all his power and "full integrate" into their petty Imperium fresh in his mind, Karthis was not exactly all too amused when someone else came along and wanted him to basically do the same. Just sign over all of his military assists to some one with a shiny badge to "consolidate power structure" or at least "station a liaison on his ship".

There was plenty of what Karthis deemed to be a personal affront and he felt urges to do something stupid, but he tempered his emotions and preformed a breath exercise. Four breaths in, four breath out, repeat four times to complete one set and do as many times as needed. Cracking his neck and stretching his back, he sent a message back to this "Lord-Militant Gabriel Corbec, of the Imperial Guard". Karthis wondered if it was a title he took for himself or some honorary position that Gregori had slapped onto him to keep him loyal and feeling important.

Lord-Militant Gabriel Corbec, of the Imperial Guard,

I have only recently been preparing for an 'integration' into the petty imperium of Gregori Amastov. I am denying your request to assume complete control over my own forces for reasons that I do not feel like I need to explain. As of right now, they are under my command and only your Emperor Gregori having a position higher than I in the chain of command.

In addition, I will not be accepting any "liaisons" of your own persons on my ship for any business relating to military command or watching my every action. My men are Nova Miliatrum and they are loyal to the fleet first and will remain that way as of right now. You need not worry about coordination for standard military communications should suffice; I fail to see how you need a detachment of your own men aboard my fleet to ensure vox or astropahtic communications.

I have confidence in that in the upcoming battle there should be no need for such detailed and paranoid linkage of observations troop movement and battle plans to the degree which you press unto me unless you truly have such little faith in the abilities of your commanders and officers.

With the division of our two armies, I can assure you that we will have a tactical advantage over our enemy. You see, should we be a single body, any infiltration of our ranks and espionage of our battle plans could potentially destroy us as the enemy will know exactly where the bulk of our forces will be. However, should we have our armies be separate, the enemy will have to exhaust more time and effort in attempts at stealing both of our united battle plans meaning they will only be able to know half of our on goings. In addition, the consolation of such forces will only put a strain on your commanders as they attempt to lead and command forces twice as large as they are used to which will obviously cause issues. Your experience in the Imperial Guard should tell you that it is harder to command large units of troops and assets effectively.

Going beyond that, having troops of two very distinct and different cultures on the eve of a battle will not be doing anyone any favors as culture shocks and social difference would divide the troops at a very base level. Their combat effectiveness will undobutly suffer because of this. In addition, your commanders will not have the respect nor trust of my men and vice versa. Surely you in all of your wisdom as a Lord-Militant and exprience can see reason in this all. As such, in the light of this logic I will not be resigning my own forces to you but fear not, they still fight under the banner of Gregori Amaztov.

'Saint's Chariot', Personal battleship of Emperor Gregori Amastov, Eve of War

Gregori took another deep breath as the lift opened up to the bridge. He stepped forward to the bridge crew all saluting him with the Aquilla. The Captain stood to his attention, eyes resolute the middle aged man waited for his emperor's orders. Gregori nodded to the man simply, who in turn dropped his salute and turned to the bridge crew and started barking orders. Gregori made his way to the command throne, but did not sit. Instead he stepped to the railing in front of it, before what looked like a vox mic. He cleared his throat and once more nodded to the captain.

"Open all vox channels! Tell the Choir to prepare to transmit to all worlds!"

Gregori took one last deep breath, and looked out the bridge window. His fleet, hundreds of ships strong from all over the galaxy. Xeno's and Imperium, it didn't matter. The Grand fleet of the Imperium had gathered here, for this final moment before their transition into the warp. They stood upon the precipice of war, true war, many for the first time. This, was his Crusade. This was his fleet. His Imperium.

"Men and Women of the Imperium Reborn. This day is the beginning of something new."

He spoke into the vox receiver. His words transmitted to every ship in the fleet and the planets they were leaving behind. An Emperor addressed his people one last time before war was entered once again.

"We are the first, the Pioneer's, the vanguard. Today marks the beginning of the return of the Imperium. An end to all the madness risen since its fall. A new beginning, a rebirth, and it begins with us! Soldiers of the Imperium reborn soon we will be in the Warp, and sooner still at places unknown. We do not know who stands against us, their numbers, or their lords. But it does not matter. You are of the Imperium Reborn! Xeno or human, Guardsmen or Adeptus Astartes we are all of us here for one purpose. Today we are not survivors. We are not huddled for warmth in the unknown darkness. We are conquerors, we are the lucky few to see first hand the glorious light of the Imperium Reborn taking its rightful place among the stars! We will be greater than any who have come before us! And you soldiers of the Imperium Reborn will make it so! You will shape this galaxy to better fit your ambitions and hopes! We will all of us be masters and Lords of the Stars! Any who stand in our way, denying the glory of this most momentous occasion, will fall! We will drive them before us as so many pitiful insects! Have no fear Warriors of the Imperium Reborn! Rejoice for it is you who shall own these stars! For it is upon your backs that all our fates are carried! Fight well! Show no fear for ours is the cause of righteousness! Ours is the fury of dead Gods! Forward Soldiers! Onwards for the Imperium Reborn!"

His voice boomed as he spoke, the ending a rallying cry for all to hear. His face showed signs of effort as his hands gripped the rail hard enough that beneath his gloves his knuckles were white. The Bridge crew of the Chariot shouted, chanting, "An Imperium Reborn!", as the vox transmission was ended. Gregori smiled, and walked from the bridge. The Speech over the captain made final preparations, opening the official vox channel between the Captains.

"All Ships, Gellar fields active. Navigators yours is our guide. find the Light which you seek in the tides, guide this blinded flock to its destination. Our fate is yours."

A great rift opened before the fleet, and so the ships surged forth, their journey begun.

Forge Moon Amatheus, Manufactorum Alpha I

The Glory of wolves. They quickly cleared the immediate area, the psychic fury of Fenris ripping through the enemies ranks and scattering the pitiful traitors. Xerxes would have smiled had he a mouth at the approach of the Wolf Lord.

"+So it woulds't seem Wolf Lord. Your arrival is exactly as needed. Our enemy amasses for a final assault on this breach before the cowards break. They rely on reinforcement even now to push this final wave. Even so, without support it would be too much for us. But, a Skitarii Artillery battery has just become free. They shall even these odds for us Wolf Lord. Prepare yourself. the fire's of the Omnissiah shall rain upon them in great white flame. It will be us that the survivors must be broken on however.+"

Even as he finished speaking the great war cry of a thousand, thousand heretics shattered the air. A great Wall of bodies obscured the charge... perhaps a blessing in disguise if any of these warriros knew fear. With great Fervor the enemy poured over this heap of comrades, screaming dark oaths and insane ramblings. Weapons raised and spitting death, they were without number, surely they could not fail?

"++SECTOR 867-HJ2 CLEAR FOR BARRAGE. LOAD SHELLS, WHITE PHOSPHORUS H-E. CLOSE SPLASH FORMATION. RAIN FIRE, OMNISSIAH PROTECTS++"

The sound of screaming shells split the air before dull thuds far behind the enmy lines, followed by great booms. White smoke exploded into the air followed by a thousand, thousand agonized screams. As the cultists poured over the heap their faces no longer held rage, but fear. Soon the cultists who crawled over streamed white smoke and screamed as the Whit phosphorus burned them to the bone. Bodies poured over as they desperately tried to put themselves out... but this was not fire. The white, powder like substance was simply exacerbated by the friction, re-igniting inside of the unfortunate victims. Men screeched and cried and fought to escape the terrible phosphorus as the cloud descended upon them. Some could not be seen through the white smoke that obscured their forms. Thrashing and wailing before falling silent, this story played itself out time and time again before the Dominus and the Wolves. But still the Heretics surged forth, frothing at mouths in rage and fear. A great many had still made it over... but if this charge could be broken there would be no more.

"+Come Wolves. Let us show these fools the fury of the Imperium.+"

His phosphor blaster joined the white smoke of the artillery as he and the servitors opened fire.

Capital world Arexia Prime, underhives, some time before the Eve of the Crusade

The Citzenry of the Lower hives seemed without hope. The vicious gangs, mysteriously rearmed and back at full strength dueled eachother in the open streets. Las weaponry aplenty their brutal wars spilled into civilian centers and manufactorums. The PDF not taken to the crusade fleet seemed ill equipped and had long since retreated. It was chaos. It seemed as if they had been forgotten once more. The Gangs numbers swelled with disenfranchised youth, abandoned by thier goverment they beleived.

All was surely lost...

It was the Guard who would relieve them, and the sisters. New fire hailed from above as the Imperial guard swept through the Lower hives at the behest of Lord Corbec. With Lasgun and flamer they burned out gang after gang, disciplined training prevailing over the ferocity of the unorganized and splintered gangs. To the surprise of the underhivers the Guard brought with it not jsut fury but aid. Way-stations were set up to provide medical aid and relief, recruitment centers for the guard and PDF, and ration distributors. A surge in new recruits was found mere weeks before the Crusade would begin, bright eyed young men signing up with the Guard, or the PDF for the less adventurous. Some Gangs wholeheartedly signed up, rearing for fights elswhere in the galaxy these violent individuals were welcomed and granted amnesty, needing little training to be ready to kill.

The sisters, though few compared to the guard amongst the hives, provided faith. They preached with bolter and voice against the gangs. Happily the citizenry began to accept their ideals, praising them and Gregori with new-found fervour. More than a few young girls begged to join these warrior women in service and zeal, and accepted many were.

When hese forces left for the crusade the under-hive riots had calmed, the gangs were thinned. Perhaps the Utopia Gregori promised was closer than could be imagined, thought the citizens once their saviors ahd departed once more.

Orbit above forge Moon Amatheus, Present Day

"Prepare for re-entry! All crew to stations! Prepare for re-entry into real space! All ships check in!"

Even in the shallow warp it had been a dangerous and tenuous journey as the Navigators had relied on the eddies and shallows, echoes guiding their way to their destination... but it had worked. Real-space rippled and surged, before the fleet burst through, Saint's Chariot at the head. As the view ports could see the true void once more th Captain eyes widened. Ships. Imperial Ships... chaos ships. The eight pointed star glowed on the many ships of the fleet that met the Imperium Reborns', clearly unprepared for the massive number if ships to suddenly emerge they struggled to turn to face this new threat.

"ALL SHIPS EVASIVE MANEUVERS!", shouted the admiral as the Chariot nearly collided with one of the chaos frigates at high speed coming out the warp.

The Battleship listed upwards to avoid smashing into its new enemy with its shields down and unprepared.

"GUNNERY TO STATIONS! ALL BATTERIES PREPARE TO FIRE!"

And so war was met. And the fleets engaged in the first battle of Expansion, the fight for control of the space over the Forge Moon.

Orbit above forge Moon Amatheus, Hours later

The enemy fleet, lesser in number, unprepared, and lesser in strength was swiftly pushed back. The wounded ships panicked, many fleeing from the Imperium Reborns fleet immediately. Others had held their gorund, only to be eviscerated by the macro cannons and lance batteries of the Imperial fleet.

Now Gregori stared out at the graveyard of chaos ships. It had seemed most of them were former merchant or pirate ships. He grimaced, hoping these were invaders rather than the moons owners.

"Captain! Summon my generals and get me a Vox line to that forge Moon! I need to find out what's going on right now."

"Hail, Gregori!" spoke Captain Tyros - being the first one to reach the Chariot. Namely cause his Battle-Barge Black Flame - didn't have many men to transport or prepare. Only himself, which also was aided by the fact - that he had a teleportarium link with the flagship. Being one of the Astartes to possess such an ancient tech and the knowledge to maintain and use it.

Tyros was wearing his usual black armor, the bone spikes coated in a metallic sheen. Namely he was prepared to use any weapon at his disposal to destroy the enemies of Man. Including the Curse, that had once gotten his Chapter almost banished from the Imperium of Mankind in the first place. He was carrying a bolter, as old as he was - yet well maintained and looking no older than few years, due to some scratches on the metal surface. A plasma pistol rested on one hip, while a chainsword was on the other - what was likely more surprising was the fact; that onto his armor was attached three purity seals.

These weren't the immitations of the current Sororitas, or whatever remained of the Ecclesiarchy. Rather these were the older kind, carefully sealed and held in a special box - only worn, incase of an Astartes going to war. These seals were worn, whe the old Imperium had stood - and that had been blessed by the Emperor' Will. Each seal for one purpose of their Chapter - duty, service, loyalty. These were the beliefs that Tyros, and his other three members of their remaining Chapter held onto deeply. It only took one spark to lit illuminate this dark abyss.

Inquisitor Alexius' Cutter departed from one of the newly outfitted Battleships of the Imperium Reborn's Fleet. He had chosen not to arrive aboard The Wandering Chronos and leave it behind in Arexia Prime's system for several reasons. First being that the Battleship itself, formidable though it was, was not fully crewed and therefore not ideal for a protracted battle situation. Second being that the ship was the Ordo Chronos' base of operations, training grounds, and personal abode, he would not risk its destruction or damage in battle at this stage, even if they had overwhelming numbers here. The Ordo's purpose was to serve as the new Inquisition of the Imperium Reborn, and that had to take priority over the current martial situation of the campaign's beginning. Besides, he'd given Lord Corbec almost all of the rest of his fleet and army to command, he felt the Lord-Militant wouldn't begrudge him one Battleship.

Thus, he'd obtained private transport aboard the newly formed Navy. He did his best to keep a low profile about the situation, mostly out of his desire for privacy in thinking about what to do about the negotiations over the Forge-Moon along with all of the other rogue elements that seemed to be cropping up into the Imperium by the week, but also out of caution about who had been spying on his fleet. He had read Lord Corbec's message before making his arrangements to depart, and figured that although he could not pursue the contents now, he thought it wouldn't hurt to be too careful. He'd also sent Inquisitor Varius off on his Special Assignment to the Relictor's Starfort, and under the terms of Special Assignment, he was not to communicate with Alexius via regular, overt channels. Thus, he'd heard nothing of his Inquisitor's reception there, but he wasn't too worried given his discussion with Captain Lattore earlier.

In any case, the burst of conflict immediately following the entry into the Forge-Moon's Orbit surprised him. He didn't expect they would encounter resistance so early. He hoped that whoever it was, the negotiations were not already blown. Once the Cutter crew got the clear to move, they set a course through the fleet to Saint's Chariot.

Entering onto the bridge alone, he saw Gregori already there among his crew, and the Astartes Captain Tyros who towered above everyone else in the room. He entered calmly in and made small conversation, nodding respectfully to the Astartes before turning to the new Emperor.

"Captain Tyros. I come as requested your Imperial Majesty, hopefully that reception outside is not indicative of what the situation of the Forge-Moon is. Though I must admit, I always though Forge-Moons taken by the Archenemy to be not so . . . pristine in nature. If a Forge-Moon can be called pristine."

Prior to the fleet's sendoff into the warp, Inquisitor Malodrax had been received upon the Relictor's fortress monastery. The reception had been a quiet one, with most of the brothers not particularly aware of his presence among the small mortal population aboard. The Relictors had navagators, recruits, scouts, servitors, and a smattering of support staff, many of which were recently acquired. The captain had first lieutenant Garwyn give the guided tour, avoiding any dangerous areas such as still damaged parts of the starfort and of course the locations of any active 'research.' Of course Varius would have wanted to personally inspect everywhere possible, and on a starfort, that took a while. The inquisitor was to be treated with the utmost respect and all his questions answered plainly. Leal's intent was to have complete transparency to the eyes of the Ordo.

During his stay, the captain had also privately confided to Varius his concerns over the brothers' silent unrest. "...It is only their natural desire to serve the Imperium. Our loyal Relictors are frustrated with months of aimless travel through the blackness of space and long to set their blades along the throats of the demonic hordes. We shall see to that soon enough."

---

Finally, the day arrived that the forgemoon Amaltheus was in sight. The massive starfort ripped through an enormous rift into material space moments after the rest of Gregori's fleet had preceeded them to find local space alight with naval battle. Although badly damaged, the Ramillies starfort defenses were still overwhelming, and it dominated the space around itself. However, there was one quarter, the most heavily damaged, which was less capable than the rest, and Lattore worked hard to keep that section as secret as possible. The Relictor captain stood on his command deck with a number of superior officers overseeing the space battle until completion. Inquisitor Malodrax was present as well. In the end, none of the enemy ships were threatening enough to contest the superior ships of the newly arriving fleet, and they were destroyed or vacated quickly.

"Captain Lattore. We're picking up communication from the surface. There's a battle going on down there."

"Can you identify the combatents?" Leal was eager for a status report.

"I'm picking up Skitarri transmission, and unknown, presumably chaos cultists."

Leal nodded. It was predictable. At least the mechanicus still lived on the forgemoon. Those cultists were undoubtedly causing damage however.

"Captain. I'm also detecting... Space Wolves."

Leal quirked en eyebrow. He blinked and stared at the screen. "Hm. This could complicate matters. Bring us into orbit. Jeffri, inform the flagship when we are in position to transport to the surface. We're not engaging without orders while Emperor Amastov flies beside us."

Leal heaved a deep breath. "Locate the Space Wolves' strike cruiser and aim our strongest shields in their direction."

Once the immediate threats in space had been handled, Captain Lattore opened up a channel directly to the Space Wolves' battlebarge. It was only natural that space marine chapters would converse directly with each other, given their history and separate status from mortal forces. Leal had to break the ice before dangerous assumptions might be made.

"Hail esteemed Space Wolf brothers. This is First Captain and Chapter Master Leal Lattore of the Relictors. Our starfort monastery has just entered realspace alongside you. We are escorting the naval fleet of the Imperium Reborn under the new Emperor Amastov..." Leal wasn't sure how the Space Wolves were going to react to all that. He had just identified himself as the core of the previously excommunicated and furthermore declared 'traitor' chapter, The Relictors, and he had flagrantly announced that some mere human, mortal asshole named Amastov had declared himself the new emperor of the Imperium, and they were following him.

Nonetheless, he went on to deliver the important part of his message, which were his intentions. "We have come in peace and intend to provide you with support in the battle on the lunar surface. Please report to us your status and the status of the forgemoon battle below."

Leal released the transmitter and waited with one hand behind his back. There was a 50% chance... no, more like an 80% chance the Space Wolves told them to go fuck themselves, a 10% chance they opened fire, and probably a 10% chance they accepted assistance. Nonetheless, Leal would make sure Gregori received the transcript of the communications.

Hecticlord For the Imperial Guard!

As the fleet traveled through the warp, Gabriel couldn't help but think on the disagreement he had with Lord Karthis. While Gabriel could understand Karthis's reluctance to give up control of his men it was an issue that would have to be addressed. But later, after the Forge Moon had been taken. Though this time he would approach Karthis in a more diplomatic fashion.

---

As the fleet arrived in system and the reports started filtering in Gabriel's eyes hardened. Chaos ships in orbit around the Forge Moon, Gabriel knew his men would probably be needed on the surface below. So Gabriel began issuing orders to the Imperial Guardsmen in the fleet. Make ready for deployment to the Forge Moon below. If the orders to attack came the Imperial Guard would be ready.

As the battle in space progressed Gabriel couldn't help but smile with savage glee. It felt good to be fighting for the Imperium once more, even if the Imperium wasn't exactly the same. He also hoped that everyone understood the significance of this battle. This was hopefully the start of something new. Something that could help bring order to this chaotic mess of a galaxy. If everything went well of course.

By the time Gregori's order to come to his flagship arrived Gabriel was already half way to the hangar on his vessel. He had intended to be ready to deploy with his men, but instead he diverted to the Saint's Chariot. As he entered the meeting room he could only hope that in the coming battles his men would survive. As Gabriel entered he noticed that Captain Tyros and Inquisitor Alexius had arrived before. He nodded to them in greeting before turning and bowing to Gregori before addressing him.
"My Emperor, my men stand ready. We only await your command. If the foul forces of Chaos think they can take this Forge Moon then they are sorely mistaken."

Lord Regent Karthis

"Reentering real space sir!" In accordance with their agreement, Karthis had agreed to assist Gregori in his newest conquest to secure his holdings. From what he had gathered, a large chaos incursion was happening on a Forge World called "Amatheus"; it didn't take a genius to realize what the forces of the fallen could do with the industrial might of such a planet, even if it was but a humble "forge moon".

"All weapon crews are ready on standby!"
"Garrisons have been deployed, ships now in lockdown against boarding actions!"
“Reserves are awaiting tasking!”
"Fighters are warming up, ready for deployment!"
"Automated defense servitors are online!"
“All churches have begun prayer service!”
“Architeks are on stand by for repair and resupply!”
“House Albnorn awaits your command sir!”
“Engines and generates at optimal capacity, power levels stable!”
“Purity seals and wards have been reapplied!”
“Fleet ships report they have entered real space and are at the ready!”
“All systems await your command milord, our will is at your command.”

Karthis smiled, it was showtime, “This is the Lord Regent speaking!” His voice boomed across the Ark, “Ready yourselves, combat is upon us! Imperium Aeturnum!”

~ – ~ – ~ – ~ – ~ – ~ – ~ – ~ – ~ – ~ – ~ – ~ –

With an eldritch blast, the Ark Imperialis burst out of the Warp, perhaps a little too close to the enemy fleet but ready none the less. A sole strike cruiser, foolish enough to be near the space hulk when exited the war found itself torn asunder and shattered upon impact, dwarfed by the might of what was now surely the largest ship in the Imperium Reborn’s fleet.

Taking initiative, Karthis was already sending his ships forward into the fray. It might not have been Gregori’s original plan, but Karthis wasn’t about to let him take all the glory. Besides, the sudden chaos of a space hulk appearing with a supporting fleet had clearly thrown the heretic fleet into disarray, understandably not expecting something of such size attacking them. With any luck, Gregori would have his ships take advantage of this very successful shock attack.

Broadcasting across all open vox channels, Karthis delivered an ultimatum to the Chaos Fleet:

“Attention, slaves of Chaos, you end is nigh! You shall be crushed under the foot of the Ark Imperialis and the holy armada of Emperor Gregori! Breath your last breath, traitors, for your void-bound graves shall give you none! In the name of the Emperor, let none of you survive! In the name of all of mankind, you heretics SHALL be PURGED!”

Aboard Bjorn's Will

"Captain Aristov," Master Gunner yelled over the blaring klaxon as a ship entered realspace within range of the Space Wolf Battlebarge. "An unidentified ship has entered realspace in immediate proximity. They've begun amplifying shields in our direction."

"Re-direct and ready bombardment cannons and await further command," the Captain said, frowning at this news. First there were the swarms of tech-priests making emergency repairs and demanding access to every bit of the ship, then there were the failing engines, and now there was a ship bearing the markings of a lost traitor legion. Having as much as hesitated to open fire on them was likely to gain him all of Tyrfingr's ire, but the only ending they would see from an engagement would end with them being pulled into this Forgemoon's atmosphere to hopefully at least land on some heretics.

Merrill turned to the captain, her face leading him to believe they were being hailed by the traitor legion ship. He held up a hand to the communications officer and went to open the channel himself. Relief washed over the captain at the lack of threats and, if anything, the congenial nature of the captain. "Hail Master Lattore. This is acting captain Imperial Navy captain Aristov, in place of Wolf Lord Askeladden Tyrfingr. We welcome your peace and your support. The Wolves are directly supporting Magos in sector I-z1346 where they're currently finding success in repelling the advancing cultists. My men in sectors I-z1354 through I-z1361 are in need of immediate support. We'll upload the coordinates post-haste. And beware, It's to my understanding the Magos intends to detonate the moon should losing it to the cultists seem inevitable. Best of luck to you, Captain Lattore."

All breaths on the command deck of the starfort were unconsciously held for what slowly became an agonizing test of endurance. Finally, a reply transmission was received. Leal only let his breath go once he had confirmed what he was sure he had heard, an acceptance of assistance. The Space Wolves were locked in battle against chaos forces, cultists of course, but likely also demons. From what the naval captain had said, they seemed assured of an eventual victory. The Aristov's men however, Imperial Guard and mortal, were struggling, which meant they were dying. There was also the threat of the forgemoon itself being blown up in a kind of self-exterminatus initiated by the Magos in charge. Leal had to consider the real possibility that any Relictors he sent to the surface may end up being lost forever, and that mattered when you had 100 brothers alone to choose from.

It was instinctive really, but Leal knew in an instant that he could give Captain Aristov and the Wolf Lord Tryfingr his complete trust. Without first consulting anyone else, he knew exactly what he needed to do. He had all the reason he needed to get his men down to the moon's surface where they could fight the enemy, prevent the moon's detonation, and attempt to preserve the adeptus mechanicus from suffering any more collateral damage potentially incurred by the Space Wolves. He responded back, "Transmission received Captain Aristov. We are sending our gunships to the coordinates of your men. By the light of the Emperor, the Amalthus moon will not be lost." Leal remembered his sworn loyalty to the new emperor and his secret pact with Alexius vividly.

The next few moments involved the chapter master delegating command of the Starfort and the few Relictors that were required to remain aboard to preserve the chapter in the event that the moon was detonated and to of course guard the few known relics therein. The secret of the Diamedes artifact would at least be kept by the Ordo Chronos should the worst come to pass. Updates were relayed to Saint's Chariot on the spur of the moment.

"I'm going down there. Garwyn, you're with me." Leal and his first strode purposefully toward the readied thunderhawks.

----

92 of the Relictors' brothers descended in a steep dive toward forgemoon Amalthus. The two gunships gleemed brightly as their hot metal hulls cut through polluted air in attack protocol, only finally leveling out at the last possible moment before they would have crashed nose-first into the surface. Fires burned and smoke obscured the purveyors of gunfire from each other across a wasteland battlefield littered with strewn wreckage. White skulls grinned all the wider on the paudrons of the Relictors as they poured forth form their ships, the first bolters already going off no sooner than the warriors feet hit the ground. It was as if their rage at having been pent up and denied glory for so long had been explosively released upon the forgemoon, so eagerly did the dark grey warriors actively engage the enemy. Hate and glee mixed together in a satisfying meal for the soul for the Relictors space marines.

But their souls were not the only ones feasting. Demonic, possessed bolter and blade were unleashed upon the enemy with equal alacrity, literally harvesting the souls of their hewn victims. Chaos worshippers, mutant juggernauts, and the occasional unseen demon found themselves taken by surprise against the Relictors' advance. The rounds fired from a daemonic bolter curved weirdly mid-air as they bent their paths around corners to seek their targets. A daemonic axe glowed with a foreign green light as it whisked the essence out of its taget's wounds. The viciousness of chaos in battle was terrifying to behold, even when used against itself.

The pressing incursionists began to find their progress halted as the heavily armored reinforcements to the entrenched Imperial guard joined the field. The merely human fighters looked up only to see shadows of bulky astartes forms advancing beside them, dimming the flashes of lasfire that seared the clouds over their heads. Hope began to flicker and tease their hearts.

Somewhere about sector I-z1355, a different kind of light emminated. It was white, yet off-blue, and cold, like logic. Lattore fought alongside Garwyn who bore no such chaotic taint upon his weapons, having left at least one specimen aboard the orbiting starfort for preservation. The two were taking on another front against the lesser demons and cultists, equating to an army by themselves. Helmet vox links kept them connected with their miniscule chapter. They were the closest to the site of the advancing Space Wolves.

Leal fought like a disconnected machine. Conserving ammo, he fought primarily with the angellic powersword whos bright flashes blinded enemy fighters. Warp magic melted in its presence and with it, he could even parry bullets. Now in battle, he was no longer himself alone, but a willing servant of his weapon, the two acting together seemlessly. Garwyn watched his back. So far, they had no run into anything that could stop them.

Order of Mourning Maidens - Arexia Prime

When the Imperial Guard came to came to finally back them up The Covent Shrine had come under attack. As fire rained from the sky, the sisters protecting the shrine drove the attackers out. Once the Shrine was secure. Sister Iona offered her squad to assist in securing the sector that housed the shrine. As thanks to for assistance Shines commander allowed the Imperial Guard and PDF to make use of the shrine as a supply point and make use the shrines makeshift medical facility. Meanwhile, the sisterhood took in those displaced by the fighting until the situation had stabilised. Young girls orphaned by the fighting quickly found themselves under the care of the order.
When the fighting stop the order took in many girls looking to join them. There they be subjected to the harsh screening process that all seeking to join went thought. Those that passed were allowed to join the order and begin the brutal training that all sisters had to endure. Those that didn’t were told to double their prayers to the emperor and attend sermons held. Then maybe they could join.
Flushed with new recruits. The order plans to grow looked like they’d come sooner then even Ishitta panned. But it did not matter the order would grow and please the Canoness.

When it came time for the crusade to being, those of the order entered into prayer. Praying the will of the emperor would guide and protect the sisters leaving.

Canoness Ishitta Thamus – Aborad the Redeemer of Worlds: Eve of the crusade.

Ishitta had been busy overseeing preparations, making sure the last of the supplies generously given by the embodiment to ensure the Order was fully supplied for the crusade to come. So much so by the time she had learned of what was going on in the lower hives and had her sister ready. The Imperial Guard had already come to the aid of her sisters. Something that enraged her to no end. Put over all she was grateful. So much, so she personally a sent a transmission to thank the Imperial Guard and had ship send a few of the orders best purity seals to them.

When it came time to depart Ishitta made sure she was the bridge of her ship. Waiting for the order to enter the shallow depths of the warp. The atmosphere on the bridge on of excitement of anticipation. As each member of the bridge staff went about their duty. Until the comm officer notified of an incoming transmission, from the embodiments ship.

As the embodiment spoke Ishitta glance around her bridge and saw in those moment he spoke everyone had stopped working. Listening intently to the emperor many nodding in approval of his words. The moment embodiment finished speak a cheer rose up from the Redeemers bridge crew one Ishitta was sure echoed throughout the entire vessel. It brought a smile to Ishitta lips. It was the first time she’d seen her crew so worked up this way. Positive right now she could order them to fly into depths of the warp, and they’d do so in the name of the embodiment.
With his speech over the Redeemers, bridge crew began running of the strand checks before the ship entered the warp. Giving the order to enter the chaotic realm the moment it was time to do so.

Canoness Ishitta Thamus – Aborad the Redeemer of Worlds: Present Day

The month in the warp had been spent in prayer and drills. The sisters who had the honour of coming on this crusade wanting to make sure they were ready for anything. Having no idea what to expect when the ship returned to real space. Weapons and armour were blessed and reblessed and new purity seals made. But as the month of warp travel dragged on the sisters grew restless. They eager to prove themselves to the embodiment.

The first chance came the moment they left the warp, as the fleet reentered the void. In the midst of a Choas fleet. Ishitta ordering her ship engage the moment it was able. To unleash the Redeemers full fury upon the Choas fleet. While staying close to the fleets battleships. Even if Ishitta hated Choas, she was no fool. She knew her ship was powerful and could take on all but the most powerful of warships. She didn’t wish to see her vessel take unneeded damage. In case it was needed, support ground forces on the forge moon.

As the battle drew to close. Ishitta was pleased with the performance of her crew. Watching as what remain of the Choas fleet fled. She wanted to give chase but had not been ordered to do so. So as difficult as it was she ordered the Redeemer into a low orbit of the forge moon and her the entirety of her sisters and the few land vehicles they had to be ready to deploy at a moments notice. Ishitta wanting to send her sisters to the moon to cleanse all chaos forces from the surface of the moon. But she swore the order to the Embodiment so had to wait. Yes, this was a mere test. One her order would pass and surely be rewarded by late god Emperor.

When she was summoned to the Embodiments ship, Ishitta wasted no time in boarding her lander and travelling to the Saint's Chariot. She was alone this time as she marched the battleships halls.
Upon arrival, Ishitta knelt before the Embodiment.
”Embodiment, I come as requested. My sisters stand ready to deploy. You had only given the order. Your will is that of the late god emperor and is our command. We are eager to prove ourselves.” She spoke her head hung low out of respect. Having spoken she rose and took her place. Waiting for the Embodiment to begin whatever he had called them for.

'Saint's Chariot' in Orbit above Forge Moon Amatheus

Amastov paced in his office as he waited to be told his generals were ready... things were not how he had hoped on the moon. In addition to the chaos incursion it seemed the... loyalist faction would be little better. His brother cleared his throat to get the Emperor's attention. "Brother, most of your generals have arrived... they are approaching the bridge now.", Gregori simply nodded and quickly sped towards the large war-room, his brother and two Palace Protectorate in tow. He entered the room shortly before the arrival of the four of his generals who answered his summons; Corbec, Thamus, Tyros and the Lord Inquisitor. Missing both Captain Lattore and Lord Regent Karthis. He would have to start without them.

He nodded to them, "And soon all your troops shall see combat. I bring news of the new front that will heavily impact our... strategies. It seems the Forge Moon has been at war with these foul invaders for some time... and they are losing. 90% of the planet is in the hands of the Archenemy and they have the intent to use it. Luckily, the Moon's hub, Manufactorum alpha, lays yet in the hands of Loyalist Techpriests and their Leigons Skitarii.", he let the good news wash over his generals, before taking in a deep breath to break to them the not so good news.

"In fact, we have received a vox transmission from the Loyalists leader.", with a click of a button a servo skull descended from the ceiling and, with an opening Crackle of static, relayed the message.

"++To the unknown ships in Orbit, this is Magos Dominus Xerxes Fekten, remain in orbit. You are now trespassing in Space owned by the Adeptus Mechanicus and, if loyal Imperium subjects you be, you will respect our laws and protocol. As a sign of good faith we have not opened fire with orbital batteries and have conducted thorough scans of your vessels. Minor anomalies have been found in their machine spirits. A small, lightly armed delegation will be received from you in 07:00 Standard Terran hours or we will assume you to be hostile and you will not be permitted to land. The group may consist of no more than 15 individuals of a specific combination. No more than 10 may be armed guards. You must include 1: Your leader. 2: A military Co-ordinator. 3: A representative of the Imperial Creed and Faith. 4: A representative of the Cult Mechanicus. 5: A final delegate of your choosing. The five delegates may not be armed in any way.

We will discuss your recent involvement in this war, and the anomalies in your ships. Pray to the Omnissiah you are not found wanting.++
'

With that the transmission cut. A stony faced Gregori looked around the table before speaking again, giving them all time to absorb what they had just heard.

"Magos Dominus Xerxes Fekten is... ancient. We are lucky to have records on a Tech priest of his exact name in our records, though if he is indeed the same Fekten he is undeniably ancient beyond recognition, likely sustained by heavy cybernetic enhancement if not genetic-revivification. Xerxes Fekten was noted for his extremely puritanical outlook and opinion on the technology of man, a fanatic in every way to his creed. Unfortunately it is possible that certain parts of our fleet and ground forces could... offend his sensibilities and he would register us as foes alongside the Archenemy. This has become and undeniably delicate political and military situation. If we wish to aquire the forges of this installation in one war rather than two and with minimal casualties and collateral damage we must convince Fekten to join the Imperium Reborn and accept our proffered aid."

He looked around the room, waiting for questions. Once addressed, he moved on.

"As for our true enemy, luckily most of their forces appear to simply be heretical cultists rather than any traitorous Mechanicus element. This leads us to believe that the only reason Xerxes has lost his much ground is due to weight of numbers, but we of course cannot be sure at this stage. Corbec I want you to deploy troops in a defensive ring around this 'Manufactorum Prime' as a sign of trust. I must insist less than a fourth of your forces deploy, lest Xerxes believe we are planning to attack him... or perhaps not... wh-where is Captain Lattore and Regent Karthis?!", he asked angrily, wanting to know why two important figures were not at this meeting.

It would be then that an aide of Lord corbec would hand him a small dataslate, detailing the launch of multiple Astartes gunships from the Relictors Star fort, as well as knowledge of an open Vox transmission from Lord Regent Karthis' ship to the planet below.

Forge Moon Amatheus, Surface

Captain Lattore and his men would be beset on all sides. After the initial confusion of more marines arriving the heretical cults would quickly converge on the exposed Astartes. They were cut down in droves, mutants and traitors falling to daemonic blade and bolter shell leveled at them by the Space Marines in grey. Even so, they would find themselves completely outnumbered, slowly the cults and mutants pushing in, forcing the marines and their vehicles towards Manufactorum Prime. If the Marines refused to pull back they would become surrounded and have to hope for a rescue for even a Marine can be overwhelmed through sheer wait of numbers, and the hordes seemed endless.

What would the Captain decide? He could retreat towards the Manufactorum, where better ground and possible allies were... or enemies. Lattore knew not of Xerxes or his rampant puritan outlook, and the manufactorum was surely a better position. But the pride of an Astarte's is great indeed, perhaps he could indeed hold this position, gaining a beach-head within the enemies front-line for the coming reclamation? His combat starved Astartes fought all the harder now that they could, and against their greatest foe no less. Perhaps his men needed this... perhaps their fury could prevail? Or perhaps assistance was closer than Lattore knew... as bionic eyes crossed the field to find the embattled Astartes from afar, great mechanical legs capable of quick movement...

But Lattore could know not of this. Strategy and safety, or pride and glory. In which direction would the Captain lead? Indulge his men and risk their lives, or embrace superior tactics and earn scowls from marines only whetting their appetite. It was in the hands of the Captain now.

Forge World Amtheus, the Dark manufactorum

The small cabal of Hereteks bickered and argued. Their grating binary filled the air, the transmission of a 'Lord Karthis' and the destruction of the most recent supply fleet upsetting them greatly. Not that Marix cared. His great, power armoured bulk sat across from the dark council as he tapped his finger impatiently, his men standing behind him and scanning the room with their eyes and boltguns. Finally, he decided to end this ridiculous bickering.

"Gentlemen, Gentlemen please... your giving me a headache.", he snarled, instantly quieting the half machine men.

He slouched back in his chair lazily, "This is but a minor annoyance. The supply fleet already disgorged its men, ammunition, food and other supplies before being so easily driven off. This new development shall be handled with ease, I shall attend to these... interlopers personally once they have decided to land. After all, that is what I was hired for, t-"

he was cut off by one of the Dark Heretek Council, "++You were hired to rid us of these cursed Wolves. But you have instead simply supplied them with further fodder! You have done nothing but sit in our Sanctum an-"

in a blur the Marine had hurled his hand over the table, the power claw stoping with its fingers just shy of slicing the offending Heretek's head from his shoulders. The techno monstrosity shivered in fear as the scything blades sat snugly against his tainted flesh, several long and shallow cuts had been torn into his neck, blackened blood tinged with oil and sludge drooling from the open wounds. They stung, but it was the Chaos Space Marines face he most feared.

A learing, predatory smile crossed his lips, his eyes mere pinpoints from his pale face, as if looking at a slab of meat ready to be devoured.

"And I will kill the wolves as ordered when I am ready. Now, my fee will triple if you want me to deal with these interlopers as well... do I make myself clear?", he sneered.

The Heretek nodded fearfully, causing the massive marine to draw back laughing heartily, ending with a sigh as he again slouched back in his chair.

"Good good... now, lets talk just what 'triple' means shall we?"

Sectors I-z1354 through I-z1361 found a brief respite as the waves of enemies slacked. No explanation was immediately visible, and unless there had been communications within the Space Wolves and Skitarri, one might have thought the moon was running out of enemies to throw at them. The Relictors had been the cause, of course, their lust for battle equal to their lust for redemption. The way they had positioned themselves, in the center of the gorge between mountains of ruined mech, had put them in the middle of a wedge of sorts, funneling a great majority of enemies down upon them.

The glut was oppressive however, and even the Relictors were fighting under duress. Even with a number of daemon weapons, the battle was real, and any mistake could very well end in any one of them being mowed down. Each of them were fighting second by second, moment to moment, maintaining their focus and awareness constantly, and it wasn't easy.

Reports from the orbiting ships informed the captain that the battle was far from over. Thousands upon thousands of enemies remained to throw themselves against 92 grey warriors... 91.

"No..." Leal said the word in his mind as he heard a man was down. Vengefully, he turned his head in the direction of the event, narrowing his eyes, as if he could kill the enemy offender with his gaze, but he couldn't. There was no time for deliberation as the fighting was growing more intense.

"Captain!" Garwyn shouted into his vox on their private channel, even though shouting was unnecessary, to grab his attention.

Leal quickly swung his relicblade in one direction as Garwyn simultaneously covered him with his bolter in another. It had been a simultaneous attack from two sides. Leal swore an oath. He couldn't afford to let his attention slip like that again. Dissatisfaction lashed him like a whip, driving him to focus harder, to obey more effectively, and he returned to standing his ground.

"Where are those damn Space Wolves?" Garwyn announced, unable to disguise the irritation in his voice. "Sir, we're going to be overwhelmed at this location. We must pull back to Manufactorum Prime!"

"Mutants and traitors." Leal had so judged them all. The blade in his grasp urged him to keep fighting, to keep cutting them down, but then he remembered, he was a captain. More than that, Leal Lattore was the Relictor chapter master. Thus, he had another duty, and that was to protect. ...how familiar that sounded.

Stepping back and letting his lieutenant hold the line, Leal quickly surveyed his fellows in the immediate area. Nothing bespoke the tide of battle more than the vigor of the combatants themselves. He saw that they were animals, no, they were righteous zelots. With what little psychic persuasion Leal had, he could feel the sublime satisfaction that flowed through his brothers. Battle at last! It was early yet, but none wanted to yield an inch of ground. However, Leal did see that the enemy was beginning to come also from behind them, and a restructuring of their formation was in order if they weren't going to be pinched in a vice.

Leal lifted his white daemonblade high above him and let it cast a brilliant radiance, a beacon to all his brethren that could be seen for miles. "Relictors! Rally on your captain. Unbroken ring!" He called their trained ultimate-defensive formation, and his chapter pulled together without hesitation. He followed with a battlecry he himself had heard so many times before to hearten his men. "Power prevails!"

With just enough space between each other and with the ranged weapons on the inside, the remaining Relictors formed a circle, heavier on the one side that needed it. They would hold this location, using the highwalled cliffs of rubble on their flanks as buffers to stem the rain of enemies to two primary sides. They weren't going to retreat. The mutants and cultists and hereteks and demons would all slay themselves upon the ring as they tried in vain to break through. As with any astartes force, even the best of the best, this valiant defense would eventually come down against a truly endless assault, but Captain Lattore had faith in the Relictors' endurance and an eventual end to the enemy's numbers. Whether or not reinforcements were coming, they would prove their loyalty and unique strength here, and either win, or go down as martyred heroes.

Inquisitor Alexius stood back, watching the others who had followed in their fleets enter and watch the Emperor lay out the transmission and his thoughts on the matter. He silently steepled his fingers and paced over to the window to peer out at the embattled Forge-World. After arranging his thoughts and seeing that Amastov had finished reading the data slate Lord Corbec had handed him, he gave his views on the matter.

"The Magos Dominus must think we're fools, or his age and augmentations have removed something of his practical senses if he thinks only ten armed men are an adequate escort for an Emperor in the heart of a Forge-Moon, no disrespect to the abilities of our forces, but not even the best tactician among us would disagree that serving up the majority of our commanders and leaders up, basically on a platter just begging for us to be taken captive is a ridiculous notion.

He desires leverage, assurances that we are not here to harm him and his machines, but most of all that we're not here to take the power and authority he and his people have away. If he cannot obtain it through negotiation, he will obtain it with hostages.

I do not believe it wise to have the Emperor himself at risk to becoming a hostage, unless his Imperial Majesty is adamant about going. But I wouldn't, not until our forces have established a beach head and would be ready to move in the event of treachery. Last I checked, his forces were the ones on the verge of losing their world, we come to assist them, if they did not see that by the fact we haven't already begun bombarding the Moon and blew their attackers' fleet into scrap, then something must be up with their logic engines.

Just my thoughts on the matter, in any case I volunteer to be the fifth candidate, since they made no mention of a representative of the Imperial Inquisition among the delegation.
