@Ruby Kind of but that is lacking in a lot of things and makes people jump around from topic to topic to cover everything. That was the one I looked at to see what was needed and what was missing.

Just curious, what's it missing/needing?

@Ruby Things I have already mentioned plus some others, at least in my opinion - things I ran into that made it more difficult to navigate the forum when I joined. So just putting one together that reads better for me, if it helps people great, if not no skin off my teeth.

Cool, nice work compiling this stuff.

There's definitely a lot to do, but I've made some good progress this weekend. I think some updates I made to the database this morning even addressed the worst of the timeout issues, though it's too soon to wash my hands.

Next, I'd like to focus on some core Guild features again. Your priority list has some good necessities. I'd also like to kill some of our expired / gimmicky features and excess bloat that does nothing anymore but make the code more annoying to work with.

I don't think it would be worth anyone's time for me to do a point-by-point reply to every bullet point. There are enough priorities that we all unanimously agree with to keep me busy. I'm in a good position with my life right now to plunge some more work into the Guild.

I will check in and make some more posts in this thread, but I at least wanted to acknowledge it after reading the first few pages. Back to work, though.

Any time. I'll try to keep this thread alive but since your return it's died off again.

Perhaps in a few months, we'll have new issues and I'll start a new thread. For now I think we're well on our way to a better roleplayerguild. Thanks for everything you did - and continue to do - but I felt like this thread was needed. I hope you took everything as constructive criticism, and not as an attack on you or what you do.

Sometimes calling a spade a spade is the best way forward.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this thread. I can't speak for anyone else here, but the fact that you and the Mods have taken the time to respond to this thread and consider our suggestions is something that I am truly grateful for. It definitely feels like the community has a voice again. And thank you for continuing to update the site!

With that said, I wish you luck with the updates and hope that it hasn't become too much of a strain on your personal life.

I think we need a better way to manage suggestions, bugs, and issues on the Guild.

The downside of github.com/danneu/guild/issues is that there's nobody to talk to. What hangs my progress on implementing simple-sounding features isn't necessarily technical complexity, but rather it's that I'm not sure how it should work. At which point I may query my Dev Journal for feedback, but then forget to actually link it to the Github issue.

The downside of this sort of thread is that its scope is too broad for more focused discussion.

One thing that would help me is a subforum where each thread is its own suggestion, issue, or bug. That way, the discussion can remain narrow and I can collect specific feedback. People can bump things like bugs so that I can get a sense of priority and a better idea of what I should work on next.

This subforum is full of reports/requests, so if I build a report system, it would free up this subforum for that vision.

@Mahz What type of input are you looking like, in terms of 'how it should look'? Looks wise? Function wise? More in depth coding ideas?

Aye. Organizing suggestions is hard. we remember that from when we made this. A subforum sounds like a good idea.
And for that sub-forum, perhaps use a simple copy of the tag system, where the tags are relevant to the sub-forum's purpose?
with tags like:
bug
new feature
feature improvement

could also have tags for complexity of feature?
complex
simple

not sure if it would be wise to have tags for which aspect of the guild it affects?

@Ellri I don't feel like most users have a lot of insight into what constitutes a simple or a complex suggestion. And even then, a solution that strikes me as 'simple' might be a lot harder in Mahz' mind because I have no idea about what he'd need to change to make a suggestion work.

@Mahz If there is anyway possible, could we get the Articles and Guides moved from the bottom of the Off-Topic to the bottom of News and Newcomers? It is an essential section for finding information about not only RP but the forum in general. Thing is, it really gets lost and over looked being so far down on the forum. (I was here months before it actually caught my eye and I decided to have a look.) - If it isn't possible or anything, I understand but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

@Ellri hence the suggestions 'get a new coder' isn't as outlandish. I mean it is and I don't really want us to get a '2nd coder' but for a lot of changes that might be out there right now it'd be very helpful.

The code is open source as far as I know so technically we should be able to do it. But ehhhh... how many of us actually know coding?

indeed.

Maybe Mahz/the 2nd coder (if one comes) could attach labels for complexity?

Feel free to delete/move this if I'm posting in the wrong place.

This is a suggestion for a potential What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editor.

This is a very trivial, quality-of-life suggestion so feel free to ignore it in favor of more pressing issues or if it's simply not feasible. I don't have a background in anything related to computer science, or coding, or website development, so if this seems incredibly ignorant and misguided, I apologize in advance.

I just thought it would be nice to avoid the hassle of coding and edit just the front end.

For example, this type of editor: CKEditor. Or this one: FroalaEditor. Or this one: TinyMCE. (If you follow the links, the websites have a sample editing page up to see some of the text editor's features.)

It's basically more of what we have, and you can edit what is effectively the preview pane.

Barring that, I'd like to suggest letting us edit in the preview pane on the editor we currently have, if that's possible?

Again, just very minor things that would be nice, but not necessary, to have.

And if this has been suggested before, I apologize. I'm simply too lazy to sift through all the previous pages of suggestions and a quick Ctrl + F on the first page for "editor" and "text editor" didn't hit any results.

As always, thank you for upkeeping and improving the site.

I'd probably kill the database first, though,
