Ported over my CS, and now I'm gonna judge other ones silently.

... All of them get an OK from me, but Pro's the boss so...

Hey man, every team needs a mascot. That's a fundamental rule of shonen.
But anyway, what are these "actual crew positions" you're on about? Is the idea here just to ape the core One Piece crew? Because if so, I'll be the archeologist. Bam, problem solved.

Uh, no. We don't want any carbon copies, obviously. I'm talking about important jobs that any sailing ship needs in order to function for long voyages. Navigators, cooks, shipwrights, etc.

In that case Horse is the quartermaster.
Easily one of the most vital positions for a sailing vessel.

I mean no offense when I say this, but I'm not exactly comfortable with my skeleton kid taking orders from a fishy horse thing.

Edit: Then again, I'm not a boss or anything. Go for it if you want, it's a free country.

@Spiffyfunny enough, skill wise the character I was making was also a marksman, but almost completely the opposite of Cedric. By that I mean, he is pretty useless unless he has liquor in him. Though he is only like 17 XD

But like, the reversal of drinking. I'm just gonna try and come up with a good mix of skills and abilities and get it up tomorrow lol

@Leaves Your primary rival for the position of doctor has finished their CS. I don't intend to rush you, but do you have an ETA so I can judge them side by side like I planned?

@Shortcake At this point I'm not sure if you're trolling me or not. Horse is a fantastic OP character designed as is, which is as a (albeit intelligent) beast. That's not something that gets an official job title with responsibilities (setting aside how a small pirate vessel with limited crew really doesn't need a quartermaster). You also never addressed the greater concern of mine in approving you for this game. Something like that being ignored is very frustrating. So my previous statement stands. Horse can be approved as is, assuming there's a slot available once all the necessities are covered and you can promise me your dedication. Otherwise you can make a different character that fits the dynamic and plans I was preparing for and try your luck at that.

@Spiffy Let me know as soon as he's totally done and I'll take a gander at him.

Well I mean, Chopper is an animal and he's a doctor. Plus there were all those arena contestants who were presumably part of pirate crews and had proper jobs as well. Big Mom has a magical talking rabbit man on her crew who explicitly isn't a Mink, as well.

That being said, could you go ahead and give me a list of these "necessities" that need to be filled? I mean, from what I've gathered, we're neither sticking to One Piece crew roles nor are we going with actually important real life crew roles. Since I have no idea what you want, I think this would go smoother if you just let me know straight up so I can accommodate you.

Moving on, I don't see why I need to have an arbitrary amount of posts to join a game. I'm primarily a lurker, and I can tell you firsthand that plenty of this site's major flakes have massive post counts, since all they do is chatter in the OOC and then leave. Frankly, it feels a bit like you're reaching for reasons to reject me. I won't speculate as to why, but I would like to point out that putting me on hold like this is a violation of your own "no reservations" policy.

Would you be able to give until 11 pm later tonight? If you're in another time zone, that would fetch me 5 hours.

If I don't submit the character application, go ahead and give it to the other individual seeing as how he did turn his in first. If it does come to that, I may just apply for another position or to become a secondary character.

@Leaves I'll do you one better and give you until next morning, since that's when I planned to do my next round of judging.

@Geyter Sounds good either way. If you hurry you can compete, but a viewer is just as good. :)

@ProPro
Well I mean, Chopper is an animal and he's a doctor. Plus there were all those arena contestants who were presumably part of pirate crews and had proper jobs as well. Big Mom has a magical talking rabbit man on her crew who explicitly isn't a Mink, as well.

Chopper ate the human human fruit. The rabbit had some of a human soul put in it by Big Mom. Both are extreme exceptions with zero correlation to Horse. As you've designed him, he's a beast of burden no more intelligent than other animal companions shown in One Piece. He has far more in common with Shelly or Chouchou than Chopper or that rabbit. I also have no idea what arena contestants you're talking about. The only time I remember an animal fighting in an arena was the Corrida Colosseum tournament for the flare flare fruit, which had the fighting fish and the bull, both of which were natural obstacles for the combatants to deal with. If you have something else you can remember, please cite the specifics and I'll gladly consider the statement.

We do want One Piece crew roles. You previously asked me if we were straight up copying the Straw Hat crew, which is a profoundly different question. After all, a pirate ship does not usually require an archaologist nor a singer. Now to accommodate your request, the positions that are necessary to survive a long voyage are: navigator, doctor, cook, shipwright, and a gunner/sniper/sharpshooter to ensure those ship encounters don't end poorly. Anything after that is not necessary but adds additional flavor to the ship.[/quote]

Moving on, I don't see why I need to have an arbitrary amount of posts to join a game. I'm primarily a lurker, and I can tell you firsthand that plenty of this site's major flakes have massive post counts, since all they do is chatter in the OOC and then leave.

I'm not looking at strictly post count though. It's the ratio of post to time on site, and many of your posts are from 3 months ago. You have to see how this is very concerning. Further, you not addressing this concern of mine before only raised more flags, as it came across as flippant and ignoring what I feel to be a very real potential problem. Yes many of the most flighty members have massive post counts. Believe me, I keep tabs on them, but it isn't about post count alone. It's post count compared to time on the site. Are there exceptions? Yes. That's why I asked you to let me know that you would be one of those exceptions and have the dedication I'm looking for, instead of first ignoring my request then dismissing it as unimportant.

Frankly, it feels a bit like you're reaching for reasons to reject me. I won't speculate as to why, but I would like to point out that putting me on hold like this is a violation of your own "no reservations" policy.

If I were reaching for reasons to deny you, you'd know. I would straight up tell you, "No, I don't like it/you, you cannot play" and that'd be the end of it. Instead I have told you that despite this character not being what I had in mind for this particular game, and therefore something I am completely within my right to outright dismiss, that I like the concept and character so much that I am breaking my reservation policy for this character, as long as all of the major positions are first filled. The ship cannot survive without a doctor. The ship cannot survive without a navigator. It can survive perfectly fine without a pet/mascot. So I compromised and declared that as long as a spot was open once those were filled, this was guaranteed.

This is my bottom line. My original offer stands (and is more likely than not going to work to your benefit). Horse has a spot, provided the next two characters I approve are Spiffy's (navigator and shoot combo), and one of the two competing for a doctor. My original request that you can promise me you will actively participate, both IC and OOC, still holds. I am fine with your statement that you're primarily a lurker. That does not have a negative impact on my decision. I saw a potential problem, and am very direct in confronting, and solving, it.

hello friends.

If you've seen some of the CS's here having similar Jolly Rogers, it's my handiwork as an amateur artist.

If you want me to try and get you a personalized Jolly Roger for the low low price of free, then pm me some details. Hey, I'm getting practice out of it.

Well I dunno if it can survive without a mascot, man. Double Arts didn't have a mascot and it got canned after only one volume.

Fighting Bull was a legitimate gladiator and treated as such. Mistaking him for an arena hazard was a gag at one point, actually- though the fish were hazards, so I can get why you'd get confused. Impel Down also had that goofy lion monster hired as a warden and Oda confirmed recently that the one bird crime boss who showed up at Big Mom's wedding was a regular animal as well. Honestly your justifications for why Randolph and Chopper are different seem, if you'll pardon my saying this, pretty flimsy. Basically what I'm getting here is that under your standards someone has to talk to be considered sapient? I feel this is very offensive to mutes.

But hey, if it's just a matter of jobs we'll say Horse is a gunner. He's basically a gun already, so it's fine.

Also, you never actually asked me to explain why I had a low post count? You just expressed that you didn't like it and gave me some conditions that were contingent on me being accepted anyway. Why would I make a promise to participate in something I wasn't even accepted in? I mean, yeah, had you asked this would be on me, but you can hardly blame me for this looking at the situation.

Hi there, been lurking and writing up my character. Not to be inopportune but

Both the Fighting Bull and the Fighting Lion (different block, beaten by Orlumbus) weren't treated as arena obstacles like the Fighting Fish but as actual contestants and Ucy showed some intelligence despite being there almost entirely to act as Luffy's mount. There's also guys like the Kung Fu Dugongs, who do martial arts and have a code of honor to them and one even formed an all-animal pirate crew in anime filler. An animal having higher intelligence wouldn't really be out of place at all, is what I'm getting at, especially a rare one.

EDIT: Also, for what it's worth, I do like the character. It's pretty unique and different, it's creative and funny and it stands out a lot from the rest of the posted CSes in a good way.

Thank you. I'll start working on it right now. I tend to stay up late so you'll definitely have it in the morning.

@Shortcake@Zero Hex

In regards to your ugly creature, I feel we all need to take a lesson from one of the most intelligent movie franchises of all time.

STAR WARS

I believe it was in episode one when one of the wisest men said something of significance. His name rhymed with cannoli?

Yes, it was Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: "You almost got us killed!! Are you brainless?"
Jar Jark Binks: "I spake."
Obi-Wan Kenobi: "The ability to speak does not make you intelligent. Now get out of here."

Sigh, I love Star Wars.

At this point, there is now less to do with the character itself and your attitude in this whole exchange. It sincerely feels as though you are being argumentative now for the sake of getting your way, when I explicitly stated this wasn't the kind of character I had intended to participate in this game. Even so I have provided a compromise as you clearly put a good deal of effort and thought into Horse. Unfortunately this is not only not good enough for you, but also every response you provide carries an increasing tone of negativity and accusation. I am sorry, but at this time I shall have to completely reject Horse due to your inability to work within the guidelines I had discussed with you, and general disrespect. I sincerely hope you find a game more appropriate to your expectations.
