Made a quick post since having free time is rare and wasting today would be a shame. Still, had to rush for a bit since I'm going to work in a while and should probably take a bath before going.
Random comment: Being on duty as a MD sucks. Especially since I ain't being paid.

Alright...a post.

Sorry if it's a little...Meh.

There was just a lot going on and I wasn't entirely sure how to appropriately respond.

I'm writing a post now, and I feel the same way.

@Rune_Alchemist @BurningDaisies No worries. Things are chaotic now, but with my GM-approved little event done with, everyone's free to pursue their own ends at their own pace.

I imagine there will be a little bit of talking among everyone out in front of the wreckage (those who're there so far include my charcters, Revenmar, Selena, Senna, Tania, Lena, and Cain) and then it's off to explore this wonderful world. I've already come up with a few things that I can get up to, but I do have a question for you, @IceHeart. You mentioned this in the OP:

We will be exploring parts of the world barely mentioned or not at all in the Overlord series. Contribute to the story and help develop the world around you.

I take it to mean that we have creative liberty to invent areas, settlements, and all sorts of fun stuff. Would you be interested in starting some sort of list of player-made locations/organizations/etc?

Now that the Beholder is already dead, Crash has posted and the other PCs are getting out from what's left from the guild, I think its time for me to post again.

Will have a post up tomorrow. Both for Yasha and Nyna.
PS: Just reminding you guys, Yasha is really far away from the mountain you guys are, but if someone with an enhanced sight or some magic like distant vision pays enough attention, they might be able to spot her (especially due to the color of her clothes, that deeply contrasts against the mountain)

I think the first thing that needs to be established is groups. There also needs to be guild communication between members. If you do not have travel groups, then you will have those RPers who cannot function role playing with themselves while those already in a clique will continue to selfishly RP and not care. Thus the player drop outs will start. There has to be organization if you are trying to make a non-GM-guided sandbox game. If this is GM-guided, then I rest my case. @IceHeart

Well we can already see some groups forming at this juncture. It will be interesting to see the dynamics between everyone. I can already see my character being someone willing to lead in this new adventure, and he is certainly someone not to care about alignment except when it causes dysfunction. (Especially since he likes working in a crew that operates like a well-oiled machine)

I do agree that solid organization and effective communication will be very key in a large RP like this.

I can't say anything for the other players, but as long as I have something to interact with, be it the world itself or another PC, I'm fine :-)

Emile and Liana would be up for teaming up with another character or two, but chances are they wouldn't want to join a large group or head in the same direction as them. To Emile, too many overpowered characters in one place just screams 'bad idea.'

Hm, I think Sen would head in the direction of civilization too...though, as a demon with no means of otherwise disusing herself that might be a tad bit of a bad idea~

Suppose she'd just have to wear armor all the time.

If you look at my first post in the OOC you will find an Important Locations list, of which I have already put in a few things from the original setting, and was planning to continue to expand upon with locations created by players and of course myself. So I am way ahead of ya on that note.

I think the first thing that needs to be established is groups. There also needs to be guild communication between members. Yes groups is a good idea as it would be too chaotic to have everyone together. Due to the size of this role play this will become more of a sandbox type game, although I do have plans for some GM-guided events. For example I will be taking charge of part of the invasion force by the Beastmen into Dragonic Kingdom territory, so if your characters end up going South there is a possibility of running into the Beastmen. Also if you need some kind of event to happen in your area when you feel like you need something to spice up your roleplay I can happily add some kind of plot point to help you along.

Kallahar wouldn't be picky as far as traveling companions go but likely wouldn't fit well with any strongly good characters.

@IceHeartSo basically, you're telling me that I need to be my own GM and to basically write my own game within your game? If that's the case, then just for me and only concerning how IRL is for me, this won't work. I am in a different timezone than most of the people here. When most of you are asleep, I'm awake and working and I wouldn't want people waiting for me to post when you guys post about 5 times per day. I already GM two big games, and so being in a game where I am basically writing whatever happens for the sake of my own amusement. No; not going to work. I join RPs to experience the GM's idea, storyline and plans not to write my own fanfiction. So I'll make your life a smidge easier and drop out. It will give you less people to worry about.

Question: should NPC's have 'memories' of Yggdrasil? For example, should Lexus realize that the new world is not the same as the Yggdrasil world based on names of countries, geography, etc.?

Yeaaaaah. I don't like the sound of that either. While I don't have the same IRL problems like @Holy Soldier will have, I think it will end up pretty boring when we have to just create everything on our own with you just pitching in here and there. How I look at it is you are the GM, you are basically god that controls all our situations. Just like actual RPs in a Table Top perspective, we are the Mages, Clerics, and Knights. I think we need to setup groups in a fashion with either alignment/Player Chosen/or GM chosen(Woah I know scary. Us not having 100% control of our character in OUR GM's game) being the deciding factor. Then we could organize the posting a bit if we have, lets say three different groups and you could lead us all in three separate instances. Of course we could occasionally interact with the other groups, but for the most part we should just be the group and the GM.

If I were to do it. Id have some event drive players to one area(we basically all are around the mountains if I understand) with one event that splits us. It could be something like, what the players want to do. Some want to figure what is going on and possibly leave, some want to just play the game a bit maybe even establish a kingdom to make this new land theirs, and some have given up and just want live out their new life out in this world. Essentially made three different RPs for the world established. An adventure, A conquest battle heavy, and a tragic slice of life RP. All giving the players direction. But Hey! This is your show! I'm just giving my two cents.

It is true that providing people a pure sandbox with no GM involvement tends to leave people to quit the moment they lose steam. That's been my experience. People can write stuff about the setting any time they want; the promise of something interesting that the GM has in mind for the setting, and experiencing that, is what often keeps people engaged in an RP. To me, it's reminiscent of video games. Games like Minecraft can have an interesting premise, but without any sort of central narrative or real engagement with the world, a lot of people can get bored.

Personally, I find it fun to make stuff up in a sandbox setting, particularly if other people can experience it, but I can see how a hands-off approach be analogous to neglect, @IceHeart. What do you think? Also, you totally got me on the 'important locations' list. I somehow didn't register that it would be for player-made stuff as well.

Come to think of it, if you're looking for a co-GM to help provide more stuff to engage players with, I'd be interested in lending a hand.

Personally...I am perfectly fine with the way things are going. I don't mind heavily GM influenced events, but I was under the impression this was going to be a somewhat sandboxy type thing to begin with, maybe with an overall plot that happens if we decide to engage ourselves in it.

Anyways, Senna heads away from the guild hall and pretty much starts walking in a random direction, and Lena and Tania team up with Vander.

@Hammerman
Might Senna and Selena head to the same area of Civilization by the way? Wouldn't mind them traveling together for a bit if that's cool with ya.

I already have some ideas for events that Selena can go through. Something like a basic monster/bandit invasion. She repels that and that grants her fame to mingle with the court. Maybe she'll be granted land so she can establish a farm once more.

Maybe I'm missing something, but @IceHeart offered to create side plots as needed for those who want more of the GM's influence in their character's individual story. Additionally, it seems he is leaving open the opportunity for people to make their own stories that can occur in parallel to larger story arcs he is planning. From what I gathered, you're not being forced to write your own story, unless you want to.

I can't say I share you're concerns or see how they are entirely justified beyond a faster posting rate for this group than you were expecting (which I've also had problems with in that past).

On a related note:
There's always a variance in how much individual players want to lead the narrative or be lead by the narrative, and it may take some additional effort to strike a balance, but its not out of the question.

Like @Lugubrious, if it would ease the burden, I could help write new content for ongoing plots as well. I have a notebook full of plot ideas and adventures at home I could put to use.
