TOHRU

"His eyes are lonely and sad. They echoe a distant song, a song of fear. His hands covered by gloves, scarred with burns of the past-- a distant war always at the back of his mind."

"She is a bird, a small one. It chirps a soft melody that lures a broken warrior. "

Personality:
Humorous. Good Work Ethic. Charming. Faithful. Blunt. Irrational. Risky.

Biography:
A grandmother raising a grandchild alone was extremely challenging. You can only imagine how hard it was in a world filled with magic and extreme scientific advances. Charlize's grandmother was a tough parent both in personal strength and her strictness. She felt this new advanced technology use was not to be replaced by a good work ethic or a traditional use of magic. However, when Charlize turned eight years old she humored the young girl and got her, her very first gauntlet. Charlie had been begging for it for years after all, and grandma's were always known for spoiling their grandchildren.

Charlize discovered her favorite use of her gauntlet were during sessions of hide and go seek. Her petite frame didn't take up much space as it was but, when she discovered she could direct light in a way to make her practically invisible- well, the kids didn't really want to play with a 'cheater'.

Charlie ended up getting herself in a lot of the wrong groups when she became a preteen. One group of girls would encourage her to use her gauntlet knowledge to shoplift for them. Soon enough this became her outlet for a good time. That was until she realized that they had been using her and not really had been her friends all along. It gave the girl a bias view on magic, despite it running the world around her.

When the world got turned upside down, Charlize's grandmother went on lock-down mode, removing all signs of frivolous magic that the two had. Rinh Fashonti

Age: Seventeen
Gender: Female
Race: Human

Magic: In the traditional sense, Rinh's talents lie within the field of Transmutation. Specifically in the breakdown and reapplication of chemicals and elements. Her magic is performed exclusively through a Gauntlet that has been slightly modified to work with her brand of magic. Her Gauntlet breaks down concoctions and items into their chemical components and through the Gauntlet being a catalyst a reaction, or spell, is produced. An example is having vials containing water, fertilizer, and the roots of certain plants would be broken down to their base and when the Gauntlet is used to cause a reaction, fire is produced. It's a bit more complicated as it goes, and she's not nearly at the level where she's truly getting all chemical, but her affinity lies more in line with science than out and out magic.

Given that her magic is based on science and preparation, she tends to carry around vials for chemical combinations that she's familiar with.

Personality: Rinh is rather studious given that so much of her day-to-day activities involve essentially scientific research. She isn't the type to get absorbed in her studies of chemistry and the elements of the world; as she puts it: 'I'm objective, not obsessive'. Rinh takes failure harshly and personally, seeing every failed bit of chemical magic as a mark against her and her eventual reputation. It isn't uncommon for Rinh to fall into a slump after a series of failures, which is when she knows to step away, get outside, and either wait for inspiration or to socialize - whichever happens first. She is friendly enough, though she can be quite long winded and exhausting to talk to once she starts controlling the flow - but to her credit she realizes when she's doing it for the most part.

Biography: The best thing that happened in Rinh's life was being told 'no'. When she asked her parents to teach her about magic, she was met with a firm no which in turn led to her picking up books. The books didn't really help her with any sort of practical application, but it still instilled her with a drive to do more. To become a magician of note. The problem was with her parents, who weren't the biggest fans of magic despite its numerous helpful applications. Rinh didn't question their reasons, nor did she let that stop her.

Her drive was recognized when, after being found reading magic theory books in the attic, her father relented and explained their opposition. Her family had ancestral ties to nonmagical sorts who were involved in the war long before Rinh's time. Those scars ran deep and the dislike of magic was instilled in the family across generations. Old biases. Old wounds. Rinh didn't believe she had to be bound to the scars of a family she would never know while her father explained his own biases, namely how the use of magic drove the decline of natural resources and that magic itself wasn't some infinite possibility. He feared that people relying overly on magic would be like a child in the event of a magical decline.

That conversation was integral to Rinh's development. She understood, mostly, her father's beliefs but promptly disagreed with them. Still undeterred, her parents pooled some resources and gifted Rinh a gauntlet, thinking it was a fair compromise since really what could a Gauntlet do with someone coming from a bloodline of nonmagic sorts? Rinh saw both opportunity and challenge and rather than immediately start casting rudimentary spells she wanted to see how the Gauntlet worked. And how she could make modifications.

Her goal was simple in idea but far from it in reality. She could likely never use 'real' or 'traditional' magic given the bloodline of her family, so she turned to the other great power of the world: science. What was science but magic of the mind and the world around them? Was it not technically magic when water turned to ice?

Rinh brought forth the idea to her parents or really anyone who would listen of challenging the ideas of magic power. Couldn't someone with a Gauntlet be just as powerful, magically, as someone using traditional magic? Everyone she spoke to told her the same thing. No.

And every time it just made Rinh more determined.

Extra: Just a little fun fact but Rinh, when she isn't trying to break things down into elements, is a fairly decent cook.

Another, less fun fact, is that she never travels without a little notebook which contains chemical formula and compounds and is basically her entire magical diary.

Shuichi Yuuto

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Magic: Griffin Blood – The ancestors of the Yuuto family conducted a forgotten rite that infused their bodies with Griffin blood. This gave them innate access to a range of powerful magic, and Griffin blood flows through all of their descendants’ veins. Shuichi’s abilities have thus far manifested in the form of minor wind elementalism.

Personality: Calm, aloof, and friendly, Shuichi has gotten a reputation for being a daydreamer. He is soft-spoken, though not shy, and is generally welcoming to all kinds of people. He is an intelligent young man, though he’s easily distracted and often goes on fanciful tangents. He is happier to follow than to lead, and is reluctant to take risks or do dangerous things… but can be pressured to do so.

Biography: Shuichi’s parents are both successful businesspeople. His father works in upper management for a major conglomerate, and his mother is the CEO of a major company. Needless to say, Shuichi has never wanted for worldly goods. He was preened and pruned to be a businessman since before elementary school. Academically he did fine. However, his demeanor made him ill-suited to the more aggressive aspects of running a business. His presentations were meandering and unfocused, he was kind to his competitors, and frankly, he was careless with his money; good at spending it, bad at making it.

His parents upped the pressure, of his studies, sending him to lessons and seminars after school, and essentially eliminating any opportunity he had for a social life. This proved ineffective, and his younger sister began to show more promise, so his parents turned their attention more towards her. Shuichi’s time was freed up, but he was a bit of an outcast in high school. Not many people wanted to be friends with the weirdo rich kid who somehow managed to never have money on him. So, he played the roll of a social chameleon; getting along with everyone, but not close to anyone, and so he just wistfully glided through his life.

Race: Human

Magic:

Mantra: Similar to regular mana, this source distributes energy and force throughout the user's body and channels it to becomes something of practicality. However, mantra by comparison is weaker than the other magecrafts, this is due to it's practices centering on body and soul, on the individual, rather than the whole of the other styles of magic, which study its schools in a much broader spectrum. Their channeling time is quicker and their pool of mana is by standards much wider. However they are mostly used for physical combat and are seldom is not rarely used for range combat. Though with a surprising assortment of abilities at their disposal, it is also a dying school of magic. This is due to the physical and spiritual requirements that need to be present for it to be properly channeled. But it is said that the masters of the art are one of their kind.

Personality:

Romaní's demeanor is stern, an individual who’s more than likely to greet with a nod rather than with a smile or handshake. His expressions do most of his speaking, like a raise of the brow would demonstrate his confusion or a frown his discontent. A chuckle his amusement and a sigh could mean anything. Simple gestures that speak little about him, but filter out seamlessly throughout his interactions. Small quirks that if not attentive enough would slip from your grasp not allow you to understand his personality quite well, this has brought a lot of misconceptions. He’s horrible at small talk and terribly sardonic. He would rather be in groups due to the simplicity of their extroversion overpowering his introversion. A thinker, a boy who would see indications and small details easily, ponder on them to use it later. Almost mechanically following certain assertions to come to an adequate conclusion, one mostly for the benefit of everyone or himself depending on the context. Though he prefers to keep to himself, the youth speaks with bluntness. Quick and simple, reactions such as yes and no without much questioning on the matter.

Subjects are simple to grasp for him, but he lacks an understanding for people, though in no way would he classify as someone with anxiety disorder or even fear of exposure or communication. Terribly lazy when it comes to things outside his periphery of interest, odd sense of humor and more over, strangely dedicated. Due to circumstances, or even embarrassment he doesn’t show much affection towards people. This makes it difficult for the other part to feel as if he is able to even reciprocate their feelings of gratitude or caring. And although they are true they are kept mostly in secrecy. He’s not a terribly difficult boy, he likes what he likes and dislike what he dislikes. Incredibly patient and wise beyond his years, reacts naturally to his instincts putting the other before himself. A type of stern individual to hand the last slice of bread out of his grip to give to someone that needs it.

Biography:

An only child, no siblings or uncles to relate to, Romaní has always been a loner, kept to his own devices and interests with very few interactions throughout his life. Though incredibly well-spoken, his intellect and versatility with words are enough to allow a clear understanding of his thoughts or emotions. However, his primary method of communication would more than likely be through expressions of the mien than through actual conversation. He lived plainly, no extraordinary struggles through life or anything extraordinary, after the foundation of his abilities was explain he devoted himself to the understanding of it in a more intricate form. With such, he developed insight and understanding, traits which were already natural to him grew strongly, which later bleed to daily life. With such he managed to ace the grand majority of his test, and grew to become a respectable candidate to become an Mantra apprentice.

His mantra was in fact not the strongest however, unlike his natural leaning towards introversion, he thought it be best suited stance that would be less physical. Through such, he conquered most of his mock-battles with mere presence, ending a fight before it ever began. Automatically earning the win, with such he had neglected much of his training, through years after though he found that his ability was more centered in an invisible force of energy, that by merely adjusting the natural force the mantra gives, he could increment his physical attributes by extending such with a proxy. However, without proper control, the ability could go as far as to disjoint Romaní if not careful, the force itself needs and requires a sturdy awareness of it.

Acknowledging such, he retained himself from pushing farther than what he could normally expect to, however, with such comes the urge of curiosity. Honestly, it was always tempting. But on specific night, he found himself in a predicament.Testing the waters of his limits, he unleashed a side of Mantra that had been warned not to touch, such would break him, and leave the youth unable to fully use Mantra without the aid of a catalyst. A tattoo was ingrained at his right hand, as both a testament of his idiocy leading him to dangerous waters by his superiors in the arts, and as a means to mend his now failing magical circuits.

Extra:

The tattoo is located at the back of his palm.
Can be rather quirky if comfortable enough with the person.
Easy to forgive.
Not so easy to forget.
