@Hank

Like I said before, a simple preventive maintenance every now and then would avoid this kind of headache from happening so frequently. That can't be asking too much, can it? I know that issues can happen even in the most well kept systems, but the Guild had been slowing down for weeks before this recent "crash".

Anyway, asking us to wait for God knows how much is the only thing you can do. I understand that, yet it grew old long ago.

I'll do as I said on my post above because the Guild isn't really worthy of my support at the moment. I like your site but it's not the most well handled thing in the world, even for a hobby level project.

@KoL Out of curiosity, how many websites do you use daily that have no monetisation model?

(The Guild's ads only cover the hosting costs, no more.)

To be honest, I agree with @Hank. Not to mention that RPGuild's rules are the best.

Why do you think that I leave my adblock inactive on this site? I know this very well and am not bothered at all by the one small ad at the top of every page.

You seem to be misunderstanding the reason for my actions, while trying to use very aggressive ways of talking to someone who's tying to make their point come across as peacefully as possible.

You still wonder why I'm feeling that the administration here isn't worthy of my support these last few days when the best argument you can come up with is the question you issued me?

Reiterating: I'm an avid user of this site and personally like it much more than any of the many other options around the internet. It's pretty in its minimalism, but the neglect —along with passive aggressive behavior— from the administration makes it so that I can't give my support at the moment.

Since the only support that we users can give is allowing the single, non-invasive, ad to run, the only option to taking this support back is turning the adblock on.

It's not a protest against the ad, it never was, it's against the current state of the Guild. I'll turn it off immediately once the site goes back to being usable, hopefully along with a more user friendly staff. However this last point is another issue altogether so I'll drop it here.

Just don't try to derail my argument again, right?

No, I'm not. It was a sincere question.

I personally can't think of any website I use daily that isn't run by some large organisation, be it reddit, Facebook, news websites, etc. Whenever one of those sites is down for an unreasonable amount of time people are also upset - understandably so. If Valve (to which the Guild was compared to earlier) doesn't communicate to the players who buy their games, same thing.

I don't mind that you turned your AdBlocker back on. The point I'm trying to make is that the Guild can't be compared to companies that produce paid content/websites that deliver free content but use their monetisation model to pay their employees a living wage. You're entirely free to express your opinion on the way Mahz chooses to run the Guild, but simultaneously it is my prerogative to react by telling everyone to temper their expectations. Nobody is being paid for any of this, nor is anyone paying, and thus Mahz isn't beholden to any of you to do anything. There is no inherent responsibility one must assume by hosting a public website out of one's own pocket that's free-to-use.

It's good to remember that if and when the Guild is going through a rough patch. Save yourself the emotional trouble.

EDIT: I'm not saying this to be condescending, by the way. I realise it might look like that. I'm just getting tired of people making assumptions about what Mahz must do. He'll fix the Guild's issues because he cares about this place, but not because we're entitled to his time.

I never said I expect the Guild to behave like a business, that's irrelevant for what I was trying to say in regards to the issue at hand (i.e.: the progressive degradation of the site's functionality) and the continuous stream of passive aggressiveness when I'm simply touching on the only possible measure we have to protest is really making me reconsider my opinion abou this site.

I mean, I could be snarking in the sidebar (if I could access my profile, that is) like a good deal of others are. Just because I decided to talk in the thread relating to the issue you don't need to be this defensive. I'm not accusing you or anyone else other than Mahz for his neglect; I know that you can't do anything (which is a whole other can of worms). However, this site being a hobby, or being free, aren't walls that you can keep hiding behind forever, otherwise we will be left with no site to play with when something finally happens.

I'm not trying to sound entitled or demanding, but the truth can't be denied forever.

I think it is people are getting frustrated. The lag issue is on day 9 with no perceived end or idea of a end in sight.

No one has seen Manz, granted he on holiday and on a beach in Mexico but it could disconcert that the seeming fix is not coming. Thr PM system has been nigh on unusable since earlier. It takes multiple goes to probbly even post this.

Hearing, and seeing are two different things, and much as seeing discord screen caps, a post from thr man himself, a message on discord. Just somthing to show people clearly he is about, nothing more than that.

People do not know even when this may end, uncertainty creates tension and tension begins to erode paitence.

Not condoning anything just saying a honest answer to this thread.

Been there, done that, we came back and we're still here.

Don't worry so much, is what really I'm trying to say. Save your outrage for important issues, when it's justified. Nine days of lag on your favorite hobby site isn't worth winding yourself up over to the extent that some people are.

And I'm not (passively) aggressive. Just trying to give everybody some perspective.

Guild can't really be fixed without some solid sit-down time which I can't really afford until I'm back in the city.

I have some pending changes that I want to apply, but they need to be tested. It's just not a good time.

For now I have put the Guild back up so that people can at least try their luck with it, particularly so they can access their material. Just be patient with it.

Looking forward to when the site is 100% back to normal functionality. Thank you for responding while on your vacation time, Mahz, though I did not expect you to do so in all honesty.

@Hank

No issues as yet and most things working fine.
A little slower in places but it's stable and not had any error messages yet.

The engines ticking over at least and not spluttering and stalling.

Yeah, I've had no problems with posting, or my subscriptions, or getting to my profile page. The Guild seems to be all back to normal.
