The Void Lurkers
Dear sir or madam,
You are reading this letter because officials have received word that you have made a link with your affinity. We request that you visit your local military office within 30 days of receiving this letter. If you do not follow through with this visit, officials will be sent to your place of residence in order to provide follow-up questioning.
We thank you for your volunteered participation,
Chief of Recruiting, Zaros Barclay
The letter, while brief, feels oddly compelling. You drop your plans and urge yourself to a military office and sign up for a 12 year contract. Immediately, you are sent off to military training and realize you had no control over yourself while signing your contract. The letter had been enchanted by a magical being to assume control over your mind and force you into this contract. Unfortunately, it is not easy to get out of Espara's military. The only two ways to get out are either through fulfilling your contract, or death. Some do indeed choose death, while others accept their fate and carry out their contract.
Your squadmates were affected by the same enchantment. There is nothing you can do now, so you choose to continue your training, which includes Affinity Link training/strengthening, sparring, practice missions, and physical conditioning, among other things. Once out of training, you are sent to your station among the 1st Infantry Company. You are given various missions, including but not limited to: reconnaissance, border patrol, and something known simply as extermination.
NOTE: I have much more to this than what I wrote here. If monster slaying and/or magical revolutions is your cup of tea, please feel free to stick around for the ride. Trust that if you put in the effort to create great characters, I will try my hardest to provide the best setting I can for you to explore.
Other Notes
- The 1st Infantry Company consists of 4 platoons, each containing 8 squads of x individuals (x = to be determined).
- The number of individuals per squad will depend on how many people express interest as well as what you as the players want. Several smaller squads would allow for healthy competition, multiple storylines, etc. A single larger squad means you'd likely be able to interact with a wider range of characters. If you are interested, please feel free to provide feedback.
- Depending on overall input, we can choose to start in training or already in the field. Again, mostly up to the players.
- Your Affinity Link is what connects you to the deep magic that runs throughout the planet. It is rare that one is able to link with their own unique Affinity, roughly 10% of the population are able to link with their Affinity.
- Each person's link is unique and manifests in different ways, so be original! The more unique, the better.
- While I'm expecting bizarre ideas, I'd prefer to keep the characters mostly human. Try to avoid drastic, permanent physical alterations. If your character rages out when using their Affinity Link and turns into a (wo)man-wolf, that is fine.
- I'll be quite lenient with power levels, but please don't take advantage of that. Be reasonable and use some level of judgement when planning your character. Nobody likes godmode powers.
- As of right now, I am not looking for a specific paragraph/word count on posts. All I ask is that you strive for quality posts with substance behind them. Give people stuff to work off of. That's it.
