where that discord link

You should find it on the top bar of the guild, the button that says Discord, right between the Users button and the PMs/Subscriptions/etc. panel. We have largely done our preplanning over on the #rp_discussions channel of the official Roleplayer Guild Discord.

Just putting this out there so I'm not spammed with tags later. I do not intend to participate further at this point. I have too many concerns to be comfortable doing as much lore work as I previously intended.

Very well. I can understand something experimental being a bit more volatile than desired for something like what you describe. Perhaps we will meet again later under different circumstances!

I'm actually very interested on this one (especially the experimental, gmless part). Love the settings (I'm a sucker for cyberpunk things).

@The Scotsman
The story options presented remain largely in those we have discussed previously in the Discord, though a few people have voiced a distinct preference towards the plot where we join Lt. Davison in trying to get out of the pile of trouble he'd buried himself in when he acted as a salesman for the gear. The idea of the investigator being hired by a relative (or perhaps even the corporation to make sure things proceed smoothly?) seems good to me!

Bonus points for drama between gangsters who are employed from different gangs, and/or mob members from those Davison did not hire his help from, thinking the man sold out to the other gangs. I might as well make my primary character a gang type of guy.

I like that alternative suggestion too! In the interest of promoting discussion, I'm going to be awkward and vote for Davison's (just realised I've been spelling wrong, apologies) status to be unknown. 1) Greater potential for the plot and the various characters on various leads to track him down through a large number of different avenues. 2) Whether we help him or not, that can be an entire extra plot on the end, so we are doubling our potential longevity here by tracking and then dealing with him. 3) It would be a great exercise in the 'GM-less' concept, by having the players decide the status of Davison once they have found him by looking at the previous stories tying into one and figuring out whether him dead or alive would benefit the preceding succeeding story more. Those are my personal opinions on the matter, anyway.

If we head in that direction, depending on the number of players involved, we might even be able to maintain multiple player groups at once, all doing their own investigations. A bunch of investigators who have the case outsourced to them by the corporate folk, a few of the police and even a couple gangstas just lookin' to see where their stuff guy went. Just a few additional thoughts that popped to my mind.

I also like the sound of his status being unknown, not only does it service the existence of multiple parties, but with his fate unknown it encourages people to only (initially) submit characters interested in the investigation itself. Sort of hard to introduce big cats when the stakes are so nebulous. This should let everyone get a feel for the setting and brainstorm about how they want the world to develop.

On that note, do we have an intended start date, or maybe some templates to work with? As to the latter, if we do not I could whip one up for everyone to use.

Seeing that the idea has progressed to the point some of our characters knew Davison before his disappearance and have motives personal to those who were hired to seek him out, that should settle the issue as much as it can. I imagine it is one of those scenarios where he vanishes from life in every sense, with his corporation the first to note his disappearance given he has vanished from his work. Of course that spurs them to launch their own, possibly second, investigation while some others closer to him are curious where he eloped to, and those outside them are now a tad bit paranoid where their source went off to. I agree that can be worked with.

As far as the start date I would say whenever we really have no more major questions and once we do get some sort of template together, @Terminal. That in mind as a next order of business, what sort of template are we all interested in? I believe the only portion that really needs any blatant detail would be any cyberware or enhancements the individual has and a general description of just what those do.

What do we want in a character sheet...

Well, Cyberware and personal weapons, as well as most of the protective gear should probably be mentioned. Then if they have any important connections, the type of an area they reside in... bit of background is a no-brainer more or less, unless we want our characters to be in the dark about one another. But we all can keep OOC information from interfering IC or we wouldn't be doing this thing, so it is better to just have it there, makes tying them up in the story an easier task.

And we must not forget that cyberpunk, like all the punk genres, is all about style. Appearance has to be pretty detailed, I believe. Or images can be brought in, if not both. That's my two cents on it.

In my own opinion, I think a CS for something such as this requires only a few things. Name, age, appearance (as @Hekazu said, it's about the style so description and/or realistic-ish photo), cybernetics, weapons (the last two I think are a must, to stop any potential OP characters popping out of nowhere), and why their involved with Davison's disappearance (so as to make grouping up easier). I do not agree eighth the concept of personality or background sections in role plays as it restricts the roleplaying that could occur along the line. To say 'X acts like this and dislikes this because of this' means there's no real potential for growth if we're restricting ourselves at the very outset.

My own personal opinion, as stated. Take from it what you will!

Thought I'd share what I have for my character concept as of right now.

As I said earlier, might as well make a gangster. So meet Croaks. Not his real name, but that's what everyone who knows him knows him as. Croaks is part of a riverside gang, operating in one of the many slum zones and making a living out of drowning informants, making strikes at ferries (mostly public transport), hiding evidence, what have you. The Amphibians isn't a large group of people, but they do have a good spot for themselves and they've been entrenched for a good while. Not the least thanks to Lt. Davison's combat supplies.

Now he and his brother from another mother, Ribby, have come across a problem though. No more stuff. And with their little numbers and dwindling ammo counts, that's going to add up to a disaster. So better get a move on.

Which is to say, anyone who might be interested in the role of the other gang guy should bring it up with me. That could be an interesting brainstorm session.

I'm really interested in still playing the PI role if everyone is okay with it, but should the opposing gang member role remain empty I'm happy to either double up or just go with the gangster!

Thinking a whiz-kid techie. Hotshot with a big mouth living in a local chinatown, who makes his living building and fixing tech for the locals- in this case the local Triads. He's been making a killing off buying the high tech from Lt. Davison and reprogramming and re-purposing it for the security systems and drone networks of the Chinatown triads. He's gotten in a bit over his head though- Lt. Davison's supplies have stopped trickling in and he's been caught selling shit to a rival triad, and well, its a big old mess.

Just noting been lurking/interested for a bit. Just waiting until it looks like the details have been decided. (When you do have a CS posted.)

A suggestion I have, is that anything decided by the group that's going to be apart of the general story, theme or otherwise. I'd edit the first post to include everything that's been decided on, for everyone's convenience.

The suggestions for the character creation all seem reasonable enough, but personality and background have their places in the sort of gives precedence for who they are; a guide to follow as to their demeanor. It comes across as, "This person is generally like this." and then of course background is obvious, in that everyone has a story, some just do not share it. Granted it could be intentionally part of the design to leave those things out, I am not one for doing so. They add more to the meta, which is especially important in this game.

Granted we should have no one near suffering from cyberpsychosis, but a rehabilitating teched out fiend might be a good example for this exercise. Having had all of their kit pulled out and off them, alongside some psychiatric treatment, might make them a bit more interesting to know about than say, never mentioning any of that. Of course this is not an elaborate, detailed explanation, but enough that we know sort of the who, what, when, where, why, and how of characters in the greater plot. Relevant to this in the same vein, I believe we should include it so we can draw from all the sheets to create a list of locations, non-characters, corporations, technology, and the like which we can move into one post; a reference source so we all have a living, breathing understanding of the world.

As far as my character goes, I was intending to have a bioware and genemodded solo, essentially a soldier for hire, but take another twist on it. Rather than be a pure combatant, someone who is a hunter; their role is to find people and track them down, either killing them or taking them. Somewhere between bandit and bounty hunter, though obviously corporate in nature and more low-level, low in profile. No less one who can slip generally unnoticed and undetected because of their modifications, rather than the five gun-toting wired reflexes killer, drugged up cyber maniac.
