Sophia von Einzbern

New Base, Shinto Outskirts, Shit-Hitting-The-Fan (Maybe)

Wait. New information coming in from her maid at the hotsprings? Hmm...wait, yes. And the network was sending her messages from familiars headed toward the cave area. Oh no. OH NO. She had to adjust her plans to this, right now. Maids and other homunculi were instantly called back, before they had even left the grounds proper of her new base. They were using materials that had been brought here, as well as magecraft, to form sudden fortifications. Sophia herself and the Lesser Grail were being fortified in their position at the center of this new "base". Familiars were in place, guards dogs put in place, and other advantages being leveraged to reinforce her position.

All because she had no idea what these things could do.

As for her servant-

'Ilya, get back to my side this instant with all of your speed. Enemies inbound to my location. We have to stop them before we continue on, and i need you right next to me in case they attack me directly.'

-she had messages him before too much ground would likely be covered to prevent his timely return.

The first instant possible, with information in tow, Sophia had sent that message to her servant. She needed him back. NOW. Reinforce their position, deal with the enemy, then move on. Drat, she couldn't even get her husband to her location at this time probably. But if the Grail, yes the grail. She didn't know what was going on. It didn't have any souls in it so far, which was impossible by normal standards, and she didn't know if whatever had "awakened" and probably caused all in the city to feel its presence wanted it. For whatever reasons it could, she didn't know.

Really, in regards to the Grail all she knew was that the Grail was important, and it was a strong habit around this time to keep at least the Lesser Grail safe with her at this time. Ugh. More than that she wanted Hideyoshi to remain alive, safe even, but at least that maid was there with the others. Yes, that would work nicely.

Cute Meido #102

Main Lobby, DDD Hotsprings, Foreigner's Lowlands

In reality the maid stopped the instant she had begun to get to the front door, before turning around and going back to Hideyoshi again promptly. It was odd, cold movement, sudden like a machine, and yet for this maid this was a normal as breathing air. Or rather, one could say it didn't care about how it looked as long as it happened.

Then there was that other man who gave everyone sunglasses, and going along with her mistress' orders to "assist the masters" she had put on her pair of sunglasses too. In fact, with her calm expression, she looked really cool and kinda "badass" if she herself had any thoguhts about the matter. Wait, personal thoughts? She would have to report those to her mistress later, but if she had a grasp of her mistress' character then it wasn't perhaps a bad thing. Yes, that would be nice.

"Master Hideyoshi, your wife is under attack. She is reinforcing her position now, rather than the prior announced plan. She says to tell you to 'be safe no matter what you super-baka....wait, don't you dare tell him that last part!', and that she will be fine until you arrive home again. End message," the maid relayed to Hideyoshi, before walking off toward Gin and looking up at him, "I shall assist the best i can. My mistress wishes to tell you that you have her support as well once she is free of her own attackers."

Jack
Riverside

Racing alongside the riverbank, Jack gave his legs a burst of speed, unhesitating and sure of where to head. His connection to Fran was something that went beyond even the bond of a Master and a Servant, it was the connection of a piece of one’s soul to the whole. As his Noble Phantasm, Fran was something he could locate and run towards.

Make it in time.

He had to make it.

Faster.

Faster!

Fran
Riverside

She was running.

Why wouldn’t she be running? The world was coming to an end around her.

Make it to the port. Make it there, and she could leave. Leave this hellhole and get to a new life.

So why?

Why was she hesitating?

FRAN!

Ah.

Yes.

Looking back, she saw the figure of Jack approaching at rapid speeds. Calling out to her as he ran with a desperation she’d never seen or felt from him before.

Jack. Her lover. Her savior.
Murderer. Thief.

But in the end, someone who made a promise to her. A promise that she would call on now, to escape, to run away together-

Her voice caught in her throat. His hands. What had happened to his hands?

Stopping in front of her, Jack moved and wrapped her up in a hug, strong and desperate and full of panic. The hug was brief, as Jack moved back and looked her straight in the eye and spoke.

“Fran. We can’t run. If we run, we’ll escape for a short while- but it won’t mean we’ll be safe. What happens after this place falls? The rest of the world follows.” Jack’s face looked like he had just been forced to swallow a bitter pill, and had been told it would have decent odds of killing him as much as it did curing any ails he had.

“Which means we’ve only got one option. We have to stand here, stand now and help the others who remain here to take it on. It’s the best option we have. If I could get us out of here safely, trust me, I’d wish for nothing more than to ensure you’d be safe. But in this case, that means stopping this threat. Here. We’d never be safe if we ran.”

“We’d never be able to settle down.”

His words stung at her. When he’d promised to make her happy, he’d known. He’d known what happened, what he’d done. And now, he was here, telling him she couldn’t run away, had to fight this-

“I love you Fran.”

She-

“I love you, and this threat won’t take you away from me.”

He turned on his heel, facing the gathered monsters that were approaching them. A blade materialized, blade pointed into the ground, hilt facing the sky. Jack reached out- winced and flinched. His hands. He’d forgotten-

Jack grit his teeth. He leaned down, picking up the blade with his teeth. Desperation. But the look in his eyes, it said he would not stop. He would not back down.

For her.

Jack must have noticed her doubts. He gave her a smile.

-

Enough.

She stepped forward.

He was right.

It was time to stop running. Time to show she had faith in him.

Time to show the world what she was.

Who they were.

She put her hands on where his hands formerly were. She breathed, and knew he would understand.

A pull.

And the world changed.

The crackle and burst of lightning, followed by the crash of thunder.

Spheres of electricity pooled at his stumps, forming globes of energy. Raw, untamed thunder.

The light of the Human Order burned bright.

“I am Lightning, the Thief transformed.”

“I shall obliterate the obstacles that stand between me and the dream of a more peaceful world.”

Kosara
Vietnam Swamp, Southern Moor

@BlueHelix

There was only one way to properly describe the current situation.

A complete and utter clusterfuck.

The information she had heard from her fox that was still at the meeting had solidified her understanding that everything was currently going to hell right now.

Damnit. Her purpose here had been to come and observe- simply to learn and try and understand what the function of the Summoning Ritual was like.

But now, everyone was under siege. Everyone was under fire, and they couldn’t be expected to give aid to all others in there state.

Damnit.

“If anyone is able to spare forces for the Swamp in the Southern Moor, then it is possible that my Servant, combining forces with others, could hold off greater forces using the advantage of our own terrain and territory.” She grimaced as she prepared for the next part.

“We are one of the pairs closest to ground zero. Once a method to properly deal with the enemies has been discovered and applied, the territory can be moved to the surrounding area in Shinto in order to buy as much time for people who will work on bolstering the seal while close to it. With more forces, we could likely hold off more. As for now, we will be holding our own here. End Communications.”

There was no time.

“Rider, you know what to do. Defend.”

The oni she had made would be assisting him. She doubted it would be enough.

But she prayed that it would be.

"...I see. You simply don't understand...no, you can't understand. You can't see their wishes or their karma, you can't see what they pray for, and so you assume they are the same as you. You assume that is what they live for."

Tesla's body tensed as he began to move to the side, Disengaging from the conflict entirely as his armor focused on speeding up his movement as much as possible.

"A genius cannot understand ordinary men. I do not blame you, Nikola Tesla, as that would simply be to blame what you are, but I cannot accept it. I cannot accept a world that causes them to suffer, and neither can they. Those who have lost their homes and loved ones, those broken by meaningless tragedy, those who rage at death and scream at life, I cannot ignore their prayers."

Every one of his attacks hit, but Tesla could tell. He knew it wouldn't be enough, he just needed the distraction to get away.

"You are indeed a Star of humanity, but are you not aware? Monsters kill humans. Heroes kill monsters. Humans kill heroes."

A fact Tesla was all too aware of. Vines burst from the ground where Tesla once was, but he was no longer there. He was now completely focused on Disengaging from this futile conflict, he would need to regroup with Darius at the Church if they were to fight off these men.

"And in this moment, I stand beside humans."

And that is why you will fall. Because just as men slay heroes and heroes slay monsters, monsters slay men. And Tesla held within his fortress the most powerful poison created by a monster.

The time was now. A wave of primal madness swept over them, but it was nullified by the Charisma that strange man with the glasses gave off. Altera put on her own pair with little fanfare, they were merely another tool after all. She then calmly walked out the door, closed it behind her, and drew the Sword of Mars.

"As my Master said. Chop chop." Mana was channeled into her legs via the Crest of the Stars, increasing her speed immensely as she scanned the Lyaeus before her. These Beasts while threatening, were nothing compared to the monster she had faced down in the bar. Only a few were in her line of sight, but those few would be destroyed. It was her purpose after all, she was a killing machine. It would be very embarrassing if the machine failed at it's first job.

Her eyes locked onto the one warping space, with a single step she was already halfway to him. The second step had her spinning in a circle, her sword extending outwards like a whip to cut anyone coming towards her in half. The third step was to control her momentum, stopping in front of the Lyaeus and redirecting her momentum into a single punch to the face. The mana to her legs was cut and redirected to her arms, that fist coming in at mach speeds.

"Crumble to dust."

Her fist slammed into the Lyaeus's face, sending it flying backwards as Altera cut off the flow of mana to her arms. She turned to the next one, the sun reflecting off her sunglasses as she prepared for the real fight to begin.

HMS Dreadnought
4 miles off the Coast of Fuyuki

@Paradox Witch@floodtalon

Admiral Fisher's small fleet had just consolidated their position and had begun to form up further off the coast when the sounds of gunfire echoed from the shoreline. The Servant snapped her eyes landward and brought up her binoculars; other watch officers, likewise, did the same, searching for any sign of the interlopers.

The flare and spatter of muzzle-flash caught her eyes and the Servant felt her lips twist up in revulsion. The mysterious trio had progressed far faster then she anticipated and were, even now, showing little signs of slowing down. Despite many of the Marines maintaining their firing lines in the buildings and thoroughfares - placing well-aimed Lee-Enfield rifle and Lewis and Vickers machine-gun fire on-target - the enemy showed little sign of being wounded. One Marine jumped from a sandbagged firing line his section was ensconced behind, bayonet fixed to his Mk. I SLR, and charged one of the creatures. Though the blade struck home, the creature didn't appear to have been wounded; the unfortunate Englishman was now on the receiving end of potentially being torn to pieces.

Strategist lowered her glasses and turned away from the engagement, her eyes momentarily downcast. She hated this; she knew that in war, she'd have to make calls that would result in men being sent to their deaths, but still, she hated having to make such a call. She took a moment to compose herself, then turned her mind back to the grisly task at hand.

"CTN Bacon!" Fisher called to her 2IC. "Signal to all ships: 'Engage at will'!"

As Strategist's order rang out across inter-ship Morse transmitters and via 'Dreadnought's signal lamps, the fleet - continuing to sail at reduced speed West along the coast - acted. The screening destroyers readied their two-apiece 4-inch and twin 12-pounder guns, while the Invincible adjusted its main guns' elevation. All of them would be shelling the outer Harbour area; at best, it was hoped that they could slow the oncoming Laeus' and allow the last of the ship-building by the docks' piers to be completed - not, however, without cost. The submarine E21 lurked at periscope depth beneath the darkened waters nearby, ready to surface and add its small compliment of surface firepower (or to evacuate anyone stranded on land) when called for.

Dreadnought, however, had trained its broadside elsewhere; acting on earlier intelligence, Fisher had deduced that the co-ordinates Tesla had supplied indicated that either the source of this infestation - or other survivors - had been gathered at those coordinates. As such, she ordered Dreadnought to drop a continuing salvo of 12-inch High Explosive shells away from that position - if pulled off, this will likely take the pressure off anyone fighting in the area.

'At least,' she reflected as she took her leave from the bridge, 'That is the theory.'

Arriving on the bow deck and perched by the jack's unadorned pole, the Admiral stood at ease and placed her gloved hands behind her back as her eyes fell on Fuyuki. She quietly surveyed the all-but-condemned city - briefly wondering to herself if this was how the gods of war felt and saw Man when the latter flailed at itself in their self-destructive throes - before she puffed up her chest.

"FOR KING, COUNTRY AND THE PEOPLE OF FUYUKI, COMMENCE FIRING!!"

Fisher remained unfazed at the thunder-claps and heat waves eminating meters behind her back, as for the second time in that hellish week in Fuyuki's history...

The sky above the Sea of Japan shattered.

Prydwyn

@Paradox Witch

Prydwyn had relocated to another residence, buying this one flat out as he had done the previous. He'd figured he was in for some spending, if his goal was the Grail. Winning it meant everything, the money was inconsequential and insubstantial, less than worthless compared to the Grail. He was monitoring everything Lucius saw, taking in the sight of... whatever it was that his Servant was engaging. Their existence was unreasonable. He watched Saber score hit after hit, Hell, he felt it cutting through material. But the things just didn't go down, would not die. That was troubling.

In an instant that connection was severed, abruptly and ruthlessly.

An intense feeling of dread washed over him. There was no way. It was not possible. He had the strongest Servant. He had to. Calm down, Prydwyn. They couldn't have killed him that easily. Something is off here. He looked out of the window and saw them. The inexplicable beings his Servant was fighting. He grit his teeth to stop them from chattering and sharpened his focus. These things were at the level of a Servant. Combat was out of the question. Plan B.

He spun around and activated his Tracing magic, boosting his physicality by several times. At the same time, he activated the hardening Ehwaz rune in his shirt. With a tuck of his head, and a forward lurch, he shoulder-charged through the wall, running as fast as his legs would take him. As he went, he repeatedly sent little pings of mana through the connection, hoping beyond hope that if he got far enough away, his connection to his Servant would be resumed.

It was his only chance.

Ilya Muromets

@Crusader Lord

Ilya's heart swelled and his warrior's spirit surged as a good number of the enemy... beings stood before him in opposition. He rose his sword hand, changing his posture from a charge to readying a sweeping slash. His target was simple; every single one of these creatures that he could hit with this swing. His fist clenched and arm muscles twitched in anticipation of the first strike, when the link between himself and his Master tore open with a screamed order, one dripping with intense urgency.

His Master was in danger.

Within a single, fluid motion, Karushka slid to a halt, pivoted one-hundred and eighty degrees, and tore back into a full sprint, carrying Ilya back in the direction of Sophia. The enemy creatures rose to stop him. They
would fall before him just the same. As he rose to the sky, they rose with him. His response was a bestial roar that screamed a clear message.

You will not stop me.

With a sharp tug of the reins, Ilya ordered Karushka straight up, and she complied with all of her speed. Forgive me, Master, I am coming for you with all possible haste. Once Karushka reached the apex of her jump, she pointed herself directly toward the foes. "Begone! You lack the honor to call yourselves my enemy!" Karushka's visage damn near skewed as she tore toward the ground, ripping the wind before her neatly in half. Ilya's sword arm matched her speed, and his sword began to blur in a silver light as it danced between his enemies. He was fighting to force an opening, but that was hardly discernible. Each strike carried the force, malice, and intent of a blow meant to kill.

More than that, a blow meant to crush.

’Lancer Prime’

DDD Hotsprings, Exterior

@Paradox Witch

Eight. Annoying, but not insurmountable, particularly if more Servants other than him started to make a stand — the bronze skinned woman had already begun, from the looks of it. To begin with, the top priority was to stop the one attempting the spatial quarantine, but that was already being handled, so it left him with other potential targets.

Mental interference was shut down and ignored — even without the new equipment he had acquired and the force of personality that guy could exert for those left within such as the Masters, Achilles was a Servant holding the highest Rank in Bravery.

Rather, at this point, one could say that “being the target of mental interference” worked to the sprinter’s advantage, considering the unfair characteristics of his armor. Therefore, he would place his faith on those within the meeting room for just a second longer and ignore the issue.

That left him with six potential targets, though only one could be called a “priority”. The one that stood, forming “something” in his hand is the one that would have to be interrupted and go down first.

He looked down at the spear held in his hand. For all it could be called “crude” compared to the gift from his father and Chiron, there was an unarguable sense of beauty in it — but there was something missing.

“. . .You need a name.” He declared, as though it were a matter of course. “The weapon of a hero deserves a name.”

A weapon that had been crafted by a human of this era, that nonetheless surpassed the craft of this era. Indeed, despite the arrogance in the act, it could be called a “necessity” at this point.

The issue was, then, what would he call it. He had never been particularly good at naming things. But, at the same time, that was not a matter to worry about for now — the flash of inspiration would come, surely, but first. . .

“Let’s see what you can do.”

He couldn’t afford to quip, deliberately hold back or play around anymore. He couldn’t afford to take this anything less than seriously. So observe the enemy, learn and overcome.

The hero named Achilles had always lived like a gale that cared little for the circumstances surrounding him, and many people dear to him had paid the price for it. His underlings, his dearest friend, his own cousin — Achilles would accept that blame and take all those sins on his back.

But now, right at this moment, that “gale” had two things it wished to protect, and both were within reach. That was why, no matter what. . .this time would be different. If the hero named Achilles is meant to always lose what he cares for the most, then he will just correct that tale with his own hands.

Therefore, move even faster, push yourself beyond the limit and overcome your own legend. For the sake of what you have already lost, for the sake of what you still have.

This time—

“—I won’t let anything slip away anymore.”

The swiftest hero in the world did what he did best — he ran forward with his divine speed, reaching the enemy with the intention of at worst interrupt, ideally skewer, bringing about his full-powered sprint with the tip of his spear aimed right at the enemy's heart. It was the thrust that had gouged the hearts of many men — many heroes — in the beaches of Troy.

So...Teodor wanted to save the world? to lead every living being to salvation? hmmm, that sounded like something Raikou would want to do; if only slightly. To save the world would mean saving oneself, and if anything, Raikou wanted that.

Her thought process was cut short however, by an ominous presence appearing in their vicinity. It was something that took hold of her tiny heart, and tried to tear it out with incredibly gruesome power...However, something like that would probably threaten this world; the world which her master seemed to want to protect and save more than anything; something that Raikou would want to save.

So as Teodor took hold of his gun, so too, did Raikou draw her sword and coat it in poison, for this entity would not threaten the world without opposition.

She was focused on the enemy, which drew closer with every second. her finger was itching from grasping the blade so tightly; her mind was filling with adrenaline as she got ready for the battle, so it took her by surprise when her master called out to their original prey. Of course she hadn’t forgotten about them, but in the presence of this thing, their existence seemed trivial.

Teodor’s suggestion did make sense though; strength in numbers seemed the only option to fight these beings...and yet Raikou was reaching out for her master, to take him under her arms and run away, leaving the others behind for the sole purpose of delaying the enemy. It wasn’t like she didn’t approve of this alliance, but if her master was to survive, she somehow felt like sacrifices would have to be made. However, that idea was already vanishing as the lyaeus’ took their position surrounding the four, and their words shocked her.

“To make the world beautiful…” If you really thought about it, it wasn’t that much different from saving the world, so perhaps they could work together after all...but no, there was a memory, words from people from ancient times where oni still roamed the streets. Raikou was often called a “natural beauty” and yet those words never made Raikou feel loved, for that beauty was tied to her being, which was one of conflict and chaos.

“It doesn’t so bad, but-” While her words hopefully distracted the Lyaeus, and without leaving a split-second to spare, Raikou tapped into that conflict, chaos, and rage to release her inner-oni. Simultaneously, she used her now strengthened lightning prana burst to move at incredible speed towards Teodor, and pushed his head to the ground in a single swift yet careful movement.

But she wasn’t done though, for as this all happened with her left arm, her right arm had already drawn her trusty blade, with which she released a deadly swing of lightning in a complete circle around her, hitting every Lyaeus...as well as her new friends, if they didn’t dodge.

“I’d really rather save the world, than make it beautiful!”

Once more, she smashed the ground in front of her, creating a giant screen of smoke, rubble, and sand, making sure to not let any debris hit Teodor. It was a simple yet effective move to impair your opponents vision.

Lastly, under cover of the smokescreen, she grabbed Teodor, released a final lighting burst towards one Lyaeus, and jumped over it into the dense forest, hoping that their alliance would delay at least some of the enemies.

Servant Berserker, Gilles de Rais
Foreigner's Lowlands.

For a moment, he looked stunned, his men bursting into pools of blood, the sheer number of them bursting at the same time, turning the land into what seemed to be a lake of blood.

"You..."

An offered hand, that soldier too young to be holding a sword, the blonde maiden that lead them.

"You you you you!"

A smile, that maiden's smile, the warmth of that circle, the men that followed.

"YOU YOU YOU! YOU DEMON! CUR! POXY FLEAS UPON THE BACKSIDE OF A DOG!" Gilles bellowed, veins popping out on his temple from sheer rage, tears streaming down his face. "UNFORGIVABLE! SUCH VILLAINY SHALL NOT GO UNANSWERED! THE LIVES OF MY MEN SHALL BE AVENGED!"

Droning, fluttering of pages, chanting deep within even as he acted.

Cthugha, embrace mine skin...

Gilles' cloak started sporting a shining point, moving into a shining line, before flames appeared, more and more of those shining points appearing, burning away his cloak. Fire, cloaking his body in stead of the purple cloth, swirled around him, levitating him but for a few inches off the ground. A flame unnatural, even watching the cloak sent twangs of pain through one's mind, as if clawing one's very thoughts. The price of this was readily apparent, for it did not fully protect the wearer from its own effect, as it seemed to burn Gilles' skin. Though he seemed to be constantly regenerating, the pain was still there. Magic, abilities from a side almost incomprehensible, operating under a different law.

While not even close to the speed Achilles reached, Gilles was, by no means, slow, but the cloak of fire seemed to accelerate him far beyond his normal abilities as he charged screaming at the two monsters, swinging his weapon wildly.

The Beautiful Land
@Sageage@Paradox Witch

The field was quiet. Even before they arrived it was quiet. Peaceful. An idyllic sight amidst all the carnage of the world. The petals began to fall from the flowers, and caught on the breeze. Catching in the air and circling about like a halo before they dispersed. But there was nothing from Roland. Nor his master. No word on the battle that went on between them, their souls colliding. Striking with such a force that the foundation of who they were may as well cracked.

It wasn't until they arrived that anything happened. All six of the Lyaeus did only one thing. They ruined the mood.

Roland stood, that horse mask still resting on his head. He reached up, and pulled the mask back. Hiding his face from behind, and exposing only his face. There was no reply... Not yet at least as he flicked his wrist, and a pair of shades clicked loudly into an unfolded state. The glitter of light caught the lens, and if the monsters could die from presence alone, Roland was the coolest motherfucker in a hundred miles. With the shades resting on the bridge of his nose, the hero spoke.

"You know... Here's my thought process. What you said sounds good. But then, I got stuck on that last bit. Meaningless deaths. Meaningless deaths. Meaningless Deaths." Roland's foot tapped against the ground, as if each time he said those words there was something fundamentally wrong with how it came off. As if each time he said it, he became more and more disgusted with every syllable. "What gives you that right to judge the meaning of something you've never understood. It's simply disgusting. You see... Was my death meaningless? I had to think on that long and hard since I arrived in this war. When I dead, I didn't think so. But when I lost my arm, it sure felt like I was leading towards a meaningless end. But no. You see. Death is just a thing. It SUCKS! But you know what. I died for a reason. Olivier died for a reason. Everybody dies for a reason. It's not easy. People suffer. But get this... People are not stagnant. We change. This arm changes. I change. I adapt. I grow. And me? I'm 100% human. From my bones, to my heart, and beyond."

"So... After that thought, I had another." He turned, and as he did so he pulled on the horsemask. It fluttered through the air, landing uselessly on the floor. But then came a shock of realization. Roland had changed. The shades could do little to hide the blood red eyes, and his hair. Glorious blonde hair had turned white. White as could possibly be. Then, the mark on his cheek.

"There are six of you! That means... I've got you scared. Because right now, I'm running at 5000%, and that number... IS ONLY RISING FROM HERE!"

Durandal was drawn in a moment as he sized each of them up, as if soaking in the moment. "Now, why don't you all do me a favor and tell me your weakness! That way I don't have to hack you all into little pieces to figure it out!"

His hand swished through the air, and the front line was attacked. Quills from the boar. Like daggers they struck at them, as if baiting out a defense. Or for them to scatter and try to get around him. But Roland didn't wait for that. No, he was a reckless hero he charged forth with full force. The air exploded, filling in the place where he had just been standing. If they blocked, that was perfect for Roland. His blade, Durandal, the blade of miracles came in a full arc. As if aiming to slice clean through the nearest two. That demon arm though, it wasn't an arm.

Instead, it was like a chain. Lashing about, teeth forming as the head of this chain became the head of a boar. Teeth snapping like blades, as if seeking to devour the flesh of those who stood before the hero Roland. That arm, ready to feast not on magic, but curses, divinity, or whatever these creatures had to offer.

"I am a hero of the people! And I will not tolerate the idea of meaningless deaths! Not from you! Not from a god!"

"Thank you for joining, Miss Matou." Xerxes said as Reiki joined him, and soon enough a few others did. It felt good to be honest, not just walking out alone. His familiars had already begun to spread out, checking the route ahead of them, but already they could spy on the group gathering. The creatures. He could tell these were the things Tesla had warned them all about.

His familiars spread out, looking for the creatures, and steadily making their way towards the now revealed greater grail. It was important that if things were going south, that the greater grail's existence be secured at the very least. No doubt he expected some of these creatures to already be swarming.

"Miss Matou, you and the other three families understand the grail best. It is important that you secure and protect it. When it properly materializes, you have to use a wish. Use that wish to help us fight this... Whatever it is. Do you understand?" Xerxes was thinking a hundred miles and hour, unsure what exactly should be done. He directed part of this to the Maid, so that the Einzbern master could be aware. Should she survive, her use in protecting the grail would be invaluable.

It was then that standing outside, he noticed them. The creatures and the things they were creating. "Berserker, get Tesla and get here immediately!" He shouted, already feeling their power come in. Shades snapped around his eyes, and he fought against the crushing insanity. He was Xerxes Kaveh. He had cheated death for over three hundred years. He was born in a cave and grew up to be an influential man. He possessed the ability to make men into slaves. He was, the coolest thing others could think about. Well, at least he thought he was cool.

Gin Yoshiyaki

DDD Hotsprings

[@hot spring boyos]@Paradox Witch

Gin smiled proudly as he had managed to rally everyone to his cause. Immense stores of coolness surged through his body as he seemed more imposing than before. Indeed, to lead such a large group of heroes filled Gin with so much cool power, it was almost overwhelming. He wasn't too far from reaching maximum levels of cool. If Chiron were here, Gin was sure his sensei would be proud of what he has accomplished...

When the Lyaeus arrived, however, Gin's smile had began to falter.

"Donnie... it's you?"

Before he awaited a reply, however, the air within the hot springs began to grow rather heavy. The Lyaeus casting its mental interference into the spring had begun to drive everyone within mad, as if regressing them to their more primal nature. Another began to shift the world around the springs as Gin felt a feeling of separation from the world. And another was doing... something worth noting. Ah, at least another one of Chiron's students- Gin wouldn't dare call himself this man's peer just yet- was taking care of that.

Still, however, the madness being cast on the inhabitants of the spring would prevent everyone whose minds aren't as steeled as Lancer from acting at all, at best. At worst, it would result in... something unpleasant, probably. Gin felt it, as well, a sort of pressure forcing him to rave like a crazed beast. Of course, acting without control, with reckless abandon, was something Gin wasn't too keen on; to him, the idea sounded very lame.

And when it comes to things as lame as this, there was only one thing Gin could do. Gritting his teeth and clenching his fists, a single phrase seethed from the Yakuza boss's teeth, one that one of this spring's occupants was very familiar with.

"R-rule sixteen... s-struggle."

And so Gin began to struggle, wrestling over the control of his own mind. This mental interference was great, but his own presence was even greater. The only thing keeping him from going mad is the idea that he was cooler than this regression. Gin began to force himself to be at his coolest possible as a means of fighting off this madness. Of course, that meant that he needed to strike an imposing stance. This meant he needed to do one of the coolest things he could, at the moment; Gin needed to flex.

Flexing with all his might, Gin growled with much intensity. The very idea of him fighting back against this maddening spell out of pure willpower, alone, was pretty damn cool, cool enough to empower him even further. The seams of his sleeves began to slowly pop off as his coat struggled to contain Gin's continuously growing physique. His muscles were filled with Gin's latent power, with his own coolness, which was too much to contain. With a mighty war cry, the Gang-star flexed as hard as he could ever imagine, his massive arms popping out from the prison that was his coat sleeves, giving him a much cooler appearance, further empowering the mob boss. Biceps, triceps, deltoids, all exploding outward, glistening with the sweat attained from this man's own struggles. If anything, Gin made it look like he wasn't even struggling at all, as if it were second nature...

... and it's all because it was part of his training.

Taking a deep breath, Gin began to shout an order to all his bespectacled allies. It was a simple one, but it still carried the weight of a Yakuza boss's command.

Dido

Queen of Carthage
Remnants of Troy

Dido didn't know exactly what they were or how they were able to create that light, but she didn't care. It was trouble, but not so much trouble that she was scared, more that it felt a nuisance, a speed bump really in her quest for revenge. Her hatred was turned on these things, the monsters that would bar her path and try to prevent her from reaching her goal. She couldn't allow that.

Dido pushed her master aside, fairly gently actually, so that he wouldn't die from something like a fall. With her arms free again, she would be able to defend them in a fight.

She didn't need her arms for what she did next though. Dido glowered at the monsters, but concentrated on her words. Her mouth worked at an incredible speed as she chanted the encantation and manifested her magic. Alongside her several points of light appeared inside a series of six circles, charging with magic as she chanted. While it wasn't instantaneous as it would be with one better versed in the magic of their time, Dido felt it was fast enough. As she finished the points of light streaked away as lasers, beams of condensed light, aimed directly at the monsters standing before her.

Lilith(Hotaru Fujikawa)

Outside Workshop, Near "Newly" Occupied House, Southern Moor

It seemed like the blink of an eye, but in what seemed like it must have been less than a second, Lilith saw her potential allies fleeing from the creatures that had just approached them. Not only that, it seemed their parting gift, meant for the beasts that had run up to them was also going to hit her.

Lilith began to turn, shouting at the other magi to "get down." They might make it. They were further away. She knew she wouldn't be fast enough though. She was too close, and the lightning was too fast. Lilith would be fried here unless she was saved.

No it, wouldn't end. She had a potential out. A servant could easily move faster than a human ever could, possibly even fast enough to dodge lightning. Across her link she urgently sent a request for help, Assassin, help me. With luck, they would all survive this, and they could deal with the beasts, maybe even talk to them, after.

"No longer coated in the color of red I see. You call yourself Percival, but you wear not the trappings of a fool, nor the make-play arms of a knight. What then are you if you strip away that little boy? Hardly anything if you take away all known about you, and all that you’ve been. No, what stands before me is a little boy who thinks he’s made something of himself.”

A scoffing laugh rattled out of the red knight’s helmet as he swung his morning star on top of his shoulder while rising to his feet. The tree they met under shook, the grass rustling as though whispering about this meeting as the two confronted each other.

“In the end if you wish to prove yourself a knight then do so with your arm. Is that not how you did it the first time? With a throw like a hunting bumpkin? This time such tricks shant work on me. So let us see what comes of you in an actual fight.”

Wordlessly Percival raised his spear into the air, firing a blast of light that shone as a small shooting star, painting the sky for a moment. As it burned up their fight began, a knight of red and a simple youth charging into each other.

The powerful swings of a spear that held such great strength were beaten back, redirected or met with a shield. In raw power even now the youth exceeded the knight with that strength that boggled the mind as to how such a child could hold such a thing.

He stepped in, his wooden lance scraping at the wind with its multiple growths, almost like a trident, or rather a claw that hungered for the flesh of Ither. A brutal offense that shone brilliantly as the feelings of Percival pushed him further, and further. The voice that demanded victory, that guided his every step was only his own heart’s whispers. The skill at arms that pressed the Red Knight so far despite his advantage in his ability to take stock of a duel, and his own skill as a warrior was one that reached the realm of the famed Arthurian knights. A far cry from his undisciplined strikes at the beginning of the war. This metamorphosis was without a doubt a mixture of his mentality and the result of him coming closer to that end point.

Yet the Percival that stood before him did not reach towards becoming simply a knight.

Further, further, further. The world cried out, and humanity asked for a ruinous salvation.

He advanced, the claws of his spear descending upon Ither’s chest-

A shield slammed into his side, the red knight stepping in with trust in the armor that held a close relation to both fighters. Magical energy turned into red steel was rended, but the wound to the man beyond was light. Percival was rebuffed with that sacrificial wound, chased away by that blow and given a parting word as the youth ground his feet into the dirt, uprooting and carving a groove into the grasslands that carried him meters.

"You're less a sight that makes for sore eyes than before. But is that all then? You're hardly a match for your peers. Borrowed strength, borrowed titles. What end came of you is all inherited as well. Come, show me what passes for the strength of the man known as Percival. If you’ve ever truly become one!”

The words were spoken and woven in a way that went beyond words. With a motion of his sword-arm he flung some of the blood that dripped from his chest onto the face of Percival, egging him on and inviting him to charge back into where he was a moment ago.

The youth sprung forth, with a cry, spear first. Ither slowly raised the morning star. The motion that would bring a great clash in turn revealed an opening. His right side’s defense uncovered. Even with the guiding voice silenced, it was noticeable to Percival.

But.

The youth pushed on straight for the clash rather than going for that weakness presented by Ither’s own prepared offense, his spear met the morningstar, catching Ither’s weapon in its myriad branches like a makeshift fork. Prongs snapped, and the wood was sheared off, yet the spear held with the prodigal strength of Percival overwhelming the red knight, wrestling away the mace.

Ah, so he didn’t fall for it. Or perhaps it was that he didn’t notice? Impossible with his skill of revelation. To ignore his skill... Was it because of his incitement driving the fool into a frenzy, or his own stubbornness?

No matter, even if that strength had its roots in ignorance, the fool showed what was his, and his alone indeed.

Under his helmet, as the youth let go of his spear as their weapons clattered to the ground, Ither smiled. The morningstar dematerialized and reappeared in his hand, but Percival’s fist was already there.

It smashed through metal that could match a great legendary arm, the defense that would stand up to a great knight’s strike cratering under the blow. Combined with his nature, the power of his life in the glen merging with his curse and the anecdote of the intersection of his lives it was a mighty blow that was enough to end a legend.

“I’ve got this strength, but I need more. Simply being able to fight others, simply being able to heal those who are lucky enough to survive. I can stop some of the problems, I can fix what’s left after disaster. But that’s not enough, not for what’s coming, nor for preventing the tragedy in the first. I’ve been a knight, I’ve been a king. But what I need to be is a hero to save the world, Ither!”

It missed the spiritual core, and the damage that would’ve ripped apart the body of a servant was met with the red armor. Red metal gave way to a stream of blood. A ruinous blow, but not fatal. Even as the impact shredded his body, the ultimate adversary would not stop his struggle, would not open the path for a hero until the very end.

Neither relented in their battle even as the birth of a calamity came.

In their world (That which is precious to them) they could only see each other.

“A javelin’s thorn, the slam of a fist. Both are brutish. I’ll admit your growth, but you’re still the young boy who saw only dreams in a suit of armor even when it was wrapped in a cadaver! Nonetheless, it’s a strength I admit.”

His body was shaken, his energy bleeding away from the hefty wound. But that wouldn’t stop him. Gritting his teeth, planting his feet against the ground, Ither completed his swing despite the blow. The morningstar slammed into the boy’s back and the lancer fell to the ground from the blow. Blow and stomp rained down, barely able to be repelled by Percival as he struggled to get back up. There was no time to collect himself, the blows raining where he could not see, cornering him.

Shattered arm. A stomp that drove it through the dirt, filling a newly born hole with blood that oozed out like a zit of the land. Tears across his clothing and body from the spikes of the morning star that shredded the boy’s flesh from glancing blows. The grass was painted scarlet from their wounds, the many of Percival, and the one gaping hole of Ither.

Rising up the spear met again with the mace. Broken off shards of bark were replaced, and the shorn away tip grew again and again. The spear continued to grow as Percival struck again and again at the world that was slowly getting smaller. His mind rattled, his body screaming. But that simply made it easier to focus. Cut away the worries, cut away the memories, cut away all that restrained him. The weight of the feelings that drove him disappeared, while the drive they instilled within him clamped down and pushed him further and further.

He should be better, he was indeed better. Even with him reaching so close to that point, even reaching the realm of one of the round with his arms he was not enough to stand up to the Red Knight as a warrior. Yet through the sheer force of his power the little make-believe knight was fending him off and cornering him again. The rising lancer’s blows kept on coming.

Again, again, again. He blocks the first with his shield, he deflects the second strike with the swipe of his morningstar. The third is maneuvered around as he pushes in. Pushing forward simply for defense, the two had a dance that left Ither numb as he took blow after blow with his arms. Never direct was the clash, but despite the wounds taking their toll he could never close in to strike him down. Vexing, how very vexing. If it came to stubbornness and tenacity then he could match any hero. But this strength that should have long left him with his leaking body only grew.

The spear that continued to grow as it thrust again and again not only repelled Ither but struck true with its bite. A thrust shattered part of his armor, another thrust rended his leg. The swing of the shaft crashed against his side, hobbling him in combination with the wound on his leg.

The spear fell to the ground and began to shine.

Ah, of course.

The foe that stood against a hero was a show of the evils and terrors of that land and time. Yet it was also in having a foe that a hero could show the strengths and virtues of their time. That was the reason why the dragon was one of the greatest obstacles and greatest lauded triumphs in many legends. The great beast that represented evil and sin, yet it also held another meaning. A dragon was one whose lungs carried the breath of the world, life and energy born from the simple act of breathing.

To face the dragon was to face the ultimate calamity, to face the world. Man fought beast and the planet and reached this stage.

Consequently when man defeated such a beast they were transformed.

Gaining wisdom, gaining invincible bodies, gaining a new perspective that devoured their own humanity.

When one conquered their calamity they were raised beyond man. Both in the proof of their prowess through the deed itself, and as a consequence for the act.

He was no dragon, yet in essence he too carried the same element in his tale.

A growing boy stood against a being who brought forth the unclaimed, untainted wild nature that opposed mankind. A beautiful grassfield was enveloped in strife. One who fought to protect man, one who fought to protect that which is beautiful.

In a sense the two were completely opposed. Hero and Anti-Hero. One who sided with humans, and one who sided with nature.

In a sense the two were completely the same. The knight who wore red.

But now was the time for change. When legend would be rewritten and exceeded.

So naturally he fell.

Percival dashed forth, taking the chance that was presented, his fist readied once more. That special something that embodied his life in the glen, that overcame the hero among heroes known as Hercules shone in that clenched fist. It would burn out, this would be the last of it.

When that fist landed, Ither would die and the Red Knight's torch would be passed once more.

That would not do.

His moment of weakness was no lie. Nor was his ability to read the battle so omnipotent with how the blows of that youth shook the waves again and again, like a giant throwing boulders into the ocean that forced back the waves and disrupted the tides. But everything in the world snapped into place, like the discovery of the final missing puzzle piece.

Facing the strength of his current resolve in the present. Facing the strength of one ignorant to the works of man in his legend, and his death. The understanding of Percival was complete, and so too was his read of this fight.

the calculations of Ither, his understanding of his foe, the methodology he cultivated to face those knights and heroes who shone brighter than him all came to a final gambit.

An adversary cannot fall until the battle ends. With his battle continuation there was no loss in efficiency in his fighting no matter his wounds. There was certainly a opening caused by the last strike, but with his body that continued to return, his nature and story that would continue to raise his arms against hero after hero he could easily recover in time before Percival crossed the distance between them due to the earlier advantage that was his growing reach with his spear now becoming the ally of Ither.

A blazing red strike struck Percival down. But the lashing out fist still sought out the Saber. The momentum was stopped, and the true force and power of Percival could not be brought out, yet miraculously it still reached. In comparison to the full strength that was going to slay Ither it was a tap, but it was still a blow from a servant and so his helmet crumbled to reveal Ither's face and grin.

A fool fell.

The Red Knight stood triumphant.

The light of a sun. A great noble phantasm that he could struggle against, and perhaps stop at the cost of his life. But luckily there was nothing that he had to now protect behind him.

The Berserker flew, both propelled by his own strength, plus a bit extra. Stomping down on his car, and shoved up by the anathanoi, the vehicle scattered, the soldiers sent flying to the sides in a explosive burst. The release of the Lyaeus scorched only the empty path as the anathoni dematerialized and rematerialized to meet Darius where he landed. His vehicle reformed again, only letting out a strange whine when he landed. Already in motion, Darius was able to drive past the Lyaeus and to his ally. His own disengage skill kicking into action as he picked up the pressed Archer who did an admirable job retreating on his own. With the lofty rank of A there were few who were as good at running and retreating than the Loser King. Together the two drove towards the church.

Huh, wasn’t that the wrong way?...

Despite the limits in speed of a vehicle, the distance was still nevertheless devoured swiftly. Even if it could not match a servant in a burst, the travel speed of the Anathanoi Mk-2 Reform was something that exceeded the capabilities of cars in the 21th century.

Soon two servants arrived at the grounds of the Church, only to find that there was a second battle there as well.

To make the world beautiful, to save the world. Well, if one had to choose it was indeed a matter of opinion.

To aim for a utopia, to aim for the best possible present.

To aim for having a future, for continuation. What Atlas desired was of course to save the world.

But for now he’d settle with saving his own life as they retreated. He held onto Raikou. Despite the circumstances he found it quite amusing that he was being carried in such a way by a much younger girl.

For now he continued to watch, analyzing the actions of the strange anomalies. For now it was the stage of Saber, and hopefully soon after that, neither of them at all.

But he kept an eye out, ready to command Saber if something happened.

He thought of a conversation between him and his master. Perhaps the only real time they truly conversed. How pointless, how meaningless. When all the world was at stake. Before they left for their own fates, at the DDD, in the wild fields of Miyama.

His master had admired the tree. That was certain, but he wondered why. It was not something that quite led to the truth he sought as a magus, at least it was not one related to his path as a magus. If he was focused on his magecraft then it was likely that he was wanting the grail for some other sort of wish. Truth be told he did not know his master too well. He suffered quietly the rambunctious unfettered desires of his servant, and yet flew into a rage when he saw what was beautiful as being despoiled. Was his ire simply hard to raise, with only something he truly admired being defaced able to move him to action? So undriven and yet participating in this war...

Did he hate the modern world? Did he hate cities and people?

Well, it seemed more that he simply liked trees. But he didn't know, so he asked.

“Master. Why’d you come to this war anyway?”

“Hmm? What sort of stupid question is that? To get the grail of course.”

“That’s usually the case. But why get the grail?” He asked while draping his legs across a chair, while lying down on the ground with his upper half of the body down against the floor. The image of Percival was like a dog in that moment. It was impossible to ignore the weight on his shoulders, but in his mannerisms and how he took to things, there was still a spark of that strange innocent youth.

To that question Hamel furrowed his brows and pursed his lips, deep in thought for a moment. Then, his face softened, as if remembering a particularly fond memory. Then, for once during this war, he let out a soft smile.

“Well, it may sound a bit silly… but it was for the sake of my greed I suppose. The wish it offered was a bit intriguing, but I would rather work for my desires you must understand. Winning the grail would be more of a passing flight of fancy to be honest.”

He considered the words of his master. Perhaps that was why he ended up with his immature self. One who did not crave a wish but wanted it anyway. One who wished to work for his accomplishments and yet held the greed to simply ask for the results as all humans wished in their weakness.. What a light reason to join the war. Was that then why he accepted the nature of his servant? Was that really it? Was a magus so simple?

The morningstar blocked out the sun, and he felt his body not listening to him even more. Ah, so this was as far as he went.

Many dreams and nightmares descended upon Fuyuki, but this end to mankind would be met without him. This was perhaps the price for his sins and his own naivety. A boy who left home ignorant of the world, deciding that it simply held adventure and goodness. In his own lack of acknowledgement of evil he commited evil and visited upon others atrocities. It was always the same.

He had certainly failed many people. The people who he had to save as a hero, the people who did not wish for this, the people whose lives would be trampled by that which descended.

But there was one person who would know he failed them. His master.

It was a bit awkward, or so Percival felt, time passing in silence after such an admission. The passing of precious seconds rung out from a clock as they simply did nothing. It wasn't to his taste, so he asked another question before looking over to Hamel again. “You said that tree was beautiful.”

Raising a brow, Hamel spoke almost incredulously.

“Of course it was! You would say otherwise?” Sighing, he rubbed the bridge of his nose, his peaceful facade broken, and his scowling face returned once more.

“Well, it was like watching a falling star you know, something so far away coming within reach. It was a dream coming true."

Letting out a long cheerful "Aah!", the sound of understanding brought a slight casual smile to Percival's face, brightening up his expression that was busy hiding the melancholy he'd been struck by as of late.

"There was something that I felt was like that in my life as well. I speak of course of the king."

Hamel's scowl disappeared and he leaned forward. His interest drawn by such a statement, and the the lure of the topic. The legendary Arthur. A book that had been in his hands slipped out of his lap. With a dull thud it closed upon the carpet as his ears were drawn.

"He was beautiful, he was wondrous. He was inhuman, too pure. Even I knew he was something special that I could not quite become when I was a kid. When I saw him I fell in love all over again. Not with him as a person, but rather with the idea of a knight. My understanding of what a knight was when I was a fool wasn’t complete. But I knew I loved it all the same. The king was a fantasy, one who brought utopia to humans.

He was a star for sure.

We fought to reject the past while trying to keep the fantasy for ourselves. Our search for the grail is like that tree of fantasy actually.” he admitted sheepishly. “The tales differ of course, but I have the memories of attaining the grail, or rather becoming the king who holds it. I did not save Camelot, not that it could truly be saved.”

-

He realized his mistake. He should have seen it when he spoke with his master. They talked about trivial things perhaps, but there was something he said himself that he should’ve remembered and taken notice of. He was not a hero saved the land, or the world. Nor should he be.

I did not save the kingdom, I did not save Camelot with the grail. Why was that? He'd forgotten about such a thing. Caught up in what the voices were warning him of, of the problems that arose in the city. How silly. But perhaps that was why he was a fool. A lily who could not see the full picture, who lost sight of the meaning of his end point.

He saw Ither move in a vision most blurry. Ah, he was still around somehow. Was this the dilation of time one met upon their death? Perhaps he had such a thing in his own life, but if he did he could not remember. At the least he was certain it was not like this. He saw the morningstar fall, then something come towards him.

Yes.

To save the world was wrong. Wasn’t that what this foe was trying to do in the first place? Even if he did not know its true nature, or even the true identity that much was known to him. The words from his master that he’d been ignoring of the situation at the DDD that began moments ago came to him. Or rather there was no room in Percival to hear them in the few moments of that clash.

Ah, the voices returned to tell them of what had to be done.

But he couldn’t do it anymore.

Then finally they said goodbye..

Yeah, this was the end.

“Hah. To think we’ve both done foolish things chasing after a wishgranter. Perhaps we’re more alike than I thought?” Hamel had certainly seemed more cheerful with the notion. “A pair of fools, aren’t we? If only if we deigned to converse earlier.”

That soft expression once more flit upon his face, looking out of place on a man so often seen in an unhappy visage. But at the same time, there was a feeling that there was no other expression would be appropriate upon his own face.

“It looks that way.” Percival responded with a frankness that did not hide his thoughts. “Still, to chase after a fancy like that. Is your greed really worth risking your life? It doesn’t seem that strong. Sorry for saying this master, but it feels a bit half-assed in a way.”

Hamel droned out a understanding ah before pouring a cup of tea for himself. One more local to his land, rather than the foreign brews of Japan.

“But there’s nothing wrong with chasing after dreams. Or childishly going after one's selfish fickle desires. At least I think so. My time in this war is a big risk, a terrible mistake. From the perspective of an outsider I am a terrible magus to the utmost degree. To risk my family line for something that is not even for the culmination of a dream. But that’s fine. But in the first place, I never came to love magic because of my family or the obligation that was passed down to me, I came to love it for what it was to me and me alone. I chase after pleasures that are as concrete as phantoms, and butterflies in a storm without regard to anything else. Perhaps it is time to stop. They say that a proper magus can only devote 50 years to research before he must dedicate himself to the raising of an heir. But knowing me, that time will most likely come for me much earlier.”

Eyes turned downward, voice having gone much softer, and a melancholic light entering his eyes. Hamel once more turned up a sad smile before continuing on.

“This may be the last great adventure I may ever have Percival. So I shall jealously guard this childhood of mine, at least for just a while. So I ask of you as my servant. If my fate is indeed in your hands…

Show me the most precious of adolescent dreams that burns bright enough to fuel a hundred lives.”

Percival closed his eyes.

First off, the hell happened?

It's as if everything has escalated to world-ending proportions. While Enzo may be a magus he wasn't exactly into the occult or supernatural stuff that most magi came through.

In fact, just what are those things? Familiars? Phantasmal Beasts? Are they even a force of Nature?

With the Springs besieged he went to check up on Piper's status from the contract bound between them, after finding out he was in a pinch with the school mostly intact and Piper's preparations all destroyed from top to bottom, he clenched his fist. A red glow coming off of the back of his hand. He's activating his Command Spell, if he was going to get through this alive, he might as well save his comrade from certain doom.

"Pied Piper, by order of my Command Spell, come to me at once!"

A simple order and the bright red flash covered whatever room he was in at the moment. He had hoped these Command Spells actually brought Piper to this place in one piece or at the very least, with no fatal wounds. Whatever's happening right now surely they could use some of Piper's "expertise". He Hurriedly ran to the nearest telephone, he tried to contact all available lines where his men are stationed to arrive at the Springs, whether it be escorting or just a means of distraction.

With three revolvers in hand and a bunch of unarmed men, he could only he had prepared a crate of firearms beforehand but I guess in a Holy Grail War

What came was not death to the Lancer, but instead a hand. The smiling face of Percival's adversary filling his slowly refocusing vision. "I have won." he spoke with the firmness of the declaration of a undeniable fact. "But I did not say I will kill you." No suggestive or venomous jab about it being a mercy not offered to him. His words only carried sincerity as he grabbed at the pale wrist of Percival.

“Stand. Lancer. No, that is incorrect. Stand, oh Sir Percival, stand o my dear cousin, the knight who truly stood alone. Your ability at arms even as a child is as clear as day, and your spirit has truly come far. Of course I know of your tale, I know of the end of you as a king. But that is not you. If you truly stood alone as you claimed, then you must be tested on your own merits. Your manifestation now, your story now.”

He looked upon the fallen youth, bloodied, and beaten into submission. Yet even in such a state his face was so fair it was almost annoying. It was wreathed in cold dread, in sorrow, in crushed hope, and resignation. The fool who he cursed would not be able to hold such things in his heart. His face would not be distorted, tainted or harmed by such emotions. Yet, those impure moments that harmed him, that took him from a sheltered fool and exposed him to the harshness of the world… It was not just mere suffering. He felt the other side to them before that spear, against that fist.

In light of that he could only call that heart, and that anguish beautiful. The struggle against such terrors. Oh dear, Percival, oh dear knight. Their blood mixed, the great wounds of Ither dripping onto the defeated Percival.

He did not love humanity in that manner at all, and indeed if it were a simple matter of cleansing the planet, of bringing forth beauty once more to this world, then he would simply stand to the side. But that sense of wrongness was something he too could not accept.

“I am no king, nor do I hold no blade of coronation. Yet I shall declare you a knight. Let my authority be accepted by none in such a ruling, yet let my authority be absolute in such a ruling! Am I not the one who made you a knight in the first place? Was it not my place that you took? You did not seek out authority, nor did you seek out a wish. In the first place you came to me to be tested and to try and reach for something new that hadn't yet taken shape, no? Then I shall do what you cannot and put it to words, I shall do what you seek and brand you as what you have managed to claim. You stand now not as a fool, nor as a rabbit. Fate has indeed chosen a different champion, and our chains to our story are broken. Yet nonetheless, or precisely so, I shall give you my blessing.”

Their paths have taken a different turn. But that is fine. After all, what was needed wasn’t the one who found the Red Knight of the Round.

The one to stand alone, who would grow towards a golden future.

“You are no Knight clad in Red. You are simply Percival, no less, and no more. So stand!”

Their wounds began to heal, their bodies becoming whole. As though heeding the words of the Saber, the abandoned rags transformed into the armor of the Red Knight and rose to add themselves to Ither who has proven himself the one and only Red Knight to exist in Fuyuki.

In turn the youth who was pulled up changed, freed from his previous trappings.

Saint Graph Readvent. The fluctuating Saint Graph solidified and changed. Or perhaps it was not an readvent. In a certain manner it was growing closer to the origin of the story, and yet it traveled a new completely different path. Perhaps it could be called a genesis. This story existed only in the now, born from the events of this war.

Percival was reborn.

Pied Piper(Caster)

Academy

The King of Pestilence

"Tch.." Caster winced at the outcome, curling his brows with the mixture of disdain, fear, and confusion on his face. The divine minion stares at him directly in the eye as a sign of defiance after that insignificant barrage of attack, continuing to advance forward despite being weakened.

No doubt they meant business in dealing with the likes of the Ratcatcher, A 'villain' such has himself has no place in their 'ideal' world.

His lips shaken, cold sweat appears on his pores and yet the Ratcatcher can't help but to burst out a crooked grin on his lips and somehow have the gall to find something funny in this tense situation on what the enemy of humanity just said to one of his grudges.

"...I am sorry, but don't worry. You'll all be brought back to life, after this is done."

"kuha..kuhahaha...My apologies for bursting out, but did I hear that correctly? Bring all of the lost souls back to life, you say? surely you Jest. kuhahahaha.." Piper smirks and clutches his face like he's losing it. is he having a breakdown?

"I've never heard such absurd lip service in my entire life ever since the time when that foolish king didn't compensate me for my services." He grinned, a mere mortal, dare to the mock the gods despite being on death's door.

"Tch, the one thing I hate more than a self-righteous savior, is a hypocrite liar who makes false promises they can't keep, I have no patience nor the luxury dealing with such things....

"from my point of view, the ones you serve are evil!"
his demeanor change, gritting his teeth seething with anger. Piper raises his arm for another assault of his magical cannons. Before he can do that..

He heard something...

A familiar voice.. No, a command

An absolute control his master, Piper has no choice but to respond at Enzo..

Now Caster has to find a way to do so..

His mannerism immediately change, The arrogant bard was silent as a crypt.

with a single action and given that Piper has a sufficient AGI to react compare to other casters and even par with the other knight servants, multiple rifts appear from out of nowhere as Caster's body starts to levitates and raises his hand, collecting all the resources he has lost and summons forth his phantasm.

THE SKY BLEEDS FILTH AND MUDDLED PORTALS APPEARS AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE

Prepare for the forth-coming of the black plague only a caster can call upon! LOOK UPON MY DISEASE-- AND DESPAIR!

This is the Rat King's resolve... more RATS. more RATS.. more RATS!!
This is THE PLAGUE THAT BROUGHT DOWN THE TOWN OF HEMILIN!!

Caster's omnidirectional black magical rifts surround the academy in all direction, cornering all of the intruders in a magical portal that leads to nowhere and pours out the infectious beings like there's no tomorrow.

Up, down, left, right, it doesn't matter. The magical rats scattered from Piper's portals as they flow endlessly. Even if they are severed, the disease they carry has a devastating long-lasting effect if they stay here for too long.

The academy just became a reenactment of the tragedy that falls on the town of Hemilin, contaminated by ravenous pest everywhere. Even the ground these Lycaues walk-on has been overtaken by Piper's plague carriers. You can't even hear a needle drop from the absurd amount of rats in this place.

Damnation to this place. Damnation i say! Piper's anti-army phantasm has taken over the school by force!

As the infestation and plague take place below, Caster takes the opportunity and leaps even higher, propelling himself, almost soaring into the sky as a mean of his escape, as his three kaiju rats did the same, tether to their master.

The laws of Gravity doesn't really apply to servants in a way as Caster takes flight or rather a massive leap to the next town, hoping these guys won't give chase if they manage to escape the infestation.

Given that this ploy was boosted with a command seal, any aerial chase or combat won't happen likely.

The notorious Ratcatcher of Hamelin has to return back and live to fight another day.

Somehow..

Lyaeus (10)
DDD
@floodtalon

A Saber appeared before one, and struck out against it.

Against a Saber-class Servant, a lone Lyaeus lacked the requisite speed to outmatch it, let alone that it was already preparing something that had been so rudely interrupted. However, five of its kind were waiting for such an occurrence, and so one charged into the fray. The swing of that war god's sword moved to cleave the Lyaeus in two as it approached, but as that attack met its mark, it stopped, halting at the being's skin.

The force behind the attack changed, converted into 'something' that flowed into the Lyaeus.

At this proximity, she could tell. What it was converted to, it resembled the Ether Servants were composed of, but not quite. It was not mere magical energy, but something on another level entirely.

Of course, she would not have time to mull over that, as the Lyaeus's hands moved to grip the sword that had been leveled against it, grabbing its blade with no regard for self-harm. She could not tell what, but something in her Saint Graph was being sawed away at, as long as that grip on her sword was retained.

The Lyaeus she punched, then, took the brunt of her attack. It was sent sprawling back, reeling from the blow, but it did not die. In fact, her blow had encountered more resistance than should have been expected; the force of her punch went through, but there was some part of it that had mitigated the remainder. It was hardly difficult for her to deduce what the cause was, given the instincts that roared in her mind about the nature of these beings.

The injured Lyaeus let out a low sigh, its preparations cut off.

"...very well, white titan. This time, allow me to be your death."

Such were its words as it charged forwards, forming a pincer attack in tandem with the one gripping her sword.

A hero appeared at a speed that eclipsed possibility. Yes, they knew the hero's nature, but that did not equip them to deal with such ridiculous speed any better.

That primal spear thrust forwards, to pierce its target. However, like the war god's sword, it came to an abrupt halt at the skin, all of the energy behind that mad charge stolen in an instant.

Yes, for a weapon that bore the title of 'forger of civilization' to breach that wall...the very notion was absurd.

But, an interruption was an interruption nonetheless. Though, in this regard, Achilles was surely less fortunate than Altera.

For, while Altera's interruption brought her a moment of respite, Achilles's saw his target acting, thrusting that miniature sun forwards to ignite it. Even if he was able to use that divine speed to save himself, he would only be dooming the hot springs that stood behind him.

...troublesome.

As Gilles charged, they could only think that.

How very troublesome. Severing that line could perhaps be done if it was the source, but these mere emanations could not cut apart the Servant's existence like that. The Berserker himself was a 'door'; to close that door would require time and attention that they simply did not have.

The fire was equally troublesome. Magecraft was magecraft, but with the limits of these emanations...

One stepped forwards to meet his charge. The flames burned at its body, searing it away, but nonetheless it stood stalwart. Its hands stretched out to grip the Berserker even as it was immolated, tying him down in place.

However, in spite of that, the damage it took with each passing moment was nothing if not significant. It was not enough to immediately kill the Lyaeus, not with their aptitude to survive, but an extended period of exposure would not fare better for them than it would for anything else.

So then, they had to act quickly.

Knowing that, the second Lyaeus focused in silence.

Yes, to close the door was too difficult, but that was not the only answer-

Chiron's student really had grown.

Ah, what a pity. He had been wanting to give the boy some lessons of his own, now that training had completed. How best to perfect his magecraft, where to travel to learn from other experts, how to do a proper wine tasting.

...but, that was all in the past. He was no longer Dionysus.

"He must be proud of you, Gin."

Truth be told, the Beast felt some pride for the boy as well. He was, undoubtedly, a 'human hero'. That much was apparent in how he curbed that bakkheia. Had Chiron made him do something similar in his training? It wouldn't put that past him.

Still, though.

Those magic armaments, they were raising the Servants' 'meaning of existence'. If allowed to persist for too long...

The Lyaeus whose mental interference had been interrupted changed gears. Its eyes fixed on Gin. On his hopes, on his determination, on the lines connecting him to all those who had joined his cause.

Shatter all edicts. This is the heart of the Beast I.

And so, its mind stretched out to cut those lines. To break those damnable glasses.

Lyaeus (30)
Remnants of Troy
@Kyuuzen@BlueHelix@Undyingregret

Those Lyaeus targeting Ilya, initially attempting to bog him down, seemed to shift their actions after a few moments. While unharmed from the strikes of his sword, they dropped off from their position, allowing the hero to depart.

Perhaps the most concerning thing was their abrupt change in action.

For the Avenger a short distance away, though, the attack was unceasing. Trespassers on this ground could not be permitted, after all.

The three Lyaeus, clad in holy light, cut through the air towards Dido. Magecraft from the Age of Gods manifested as they ran, but they made little effort to avoid it.

The bursts of light struck them head-on, and were taken in by their bodies. There was perhaps some damage dealt, but what was achieved was negated by the energy that was absorbed. It bought perhaps an extra sliver of time, but that was not enough.

The three Lyaeus closed the gap, and reached out towards Dido. There was no doubt, with this level of proximity; the purification of Amaterasu would wipe her greatest weapon away in a single fell swoop.

...of course, that would only come to pass if they made contact to begin with.

Lyaeus (3)
Off the Coast
@MrCellophane

They had begun their approach, limited though they were in movement along water. If they succeeded in reaching the ships, the battle would be decided. Neither the Strategist nor the homunculus had any recourse at that point.

"Am I supposed to be insulted you only sent three? Seems like whatever metric you used to decide on your numbers has some kinks in the system."

-However, they would not reach that target.

In the sky before the fleet, a great magic circle formed in the sky. The spell-like waves it emitted were certainly noticeable by any magus in the city, even if they could not see the circle itself.

The bombardment of Fisher's fleet drove into that magic circle and seemed to dissipate into its structure. However, this magic circle was not a shield to stop the bombardment...

...but rather, a barrel to amplify it.

Fisher's Noble Phantasm and Elena's calculations to optimize the procedure, Shaytanea and Raphiel to serve as the basis for power, Ys to be the cornerstone that realizes the principle.

Let the tree drink of those wells of men, monsters, and gods.

Midgard within the city. Helheim at the fringe.

Asgard within the Moon, crafted by silver.

Vanaheim within the sun, crafted by gold.

Niflheim within Mercury, crafted by quicksilver.

Muspelheim within Venus, crafted by copper.

Svartalfheim within Mars, crafted by iron.

Jotunheim within Jupiter, crafted by tin.

Alfheim within Saturn, crafted by lead.

All on this day, where the new sun meets the cosmological snake.

Yes, dredge out everything you can to create something unprecedented, and with that power-

"Alright Ys, let's go! Super Electromagnetic Shrapnel Cannon, fire!"

The elated scream of a homunculus filled the air, before that magic circle pulsed, and the amplified might of the greatest artillery force in the war was released, a terrifying burst of magical energy that cut through the night, consuming the harbor.

...wait, what was with that naming sense?

Lyaeus (4)
Shinto Outskirts
@Crusader Lord@Kyuuzen

...ah, so that was it.

As they had arrived at the site of the Master, with her Servant fast approaching, they understood. So that was the nature of this war, the lines reaching out from that vessel made it clear enough.

It had been wondering from the beginning. Chiron had seemed to know, but it had been unable to leave that bar as the original designation, and so it was in the dark until this moment.

"...child of nature, I do not wish to fight you. You and your Servant may join me. Is your wish not also for the salvation of humanity?"

Perhaps, to an Einzbern, those words were more fatal an attack than anything it could deliver.

Lyaeus (4)
In Pursuit of Nikola Tesla and Darius III
@floodtalon

The Archer had fled.

And so, they pursued. There was little else to say. Even with Tesla's aptitude to Disengage, the Lyaeus were able to at least match his movement speed, something that became all the simpler with those intermittent jumps in space they seemed able to accomplish.

However, they did not overtake him. It was as though something was being prepared as they pursued, but as for what that was...

The Loser King evaded the great burst of a sun.

His aptitude to flee was considerable, to be sure. When working in concert with the ally who he sought, ti was no exaggeration to say that they had stepped into the pinnacle of running away, a mere half-step away from the secret technique of a family born from that emblazoned star.

...however that would not be enough.

Because, after all, as that car reformed, as Nikola Tesla was picked up and the course of action was changed-

Primary action: Infeasible. Secondary: Infeasible. Tertiary: Infeasible. Quaternary: Counterproductive given the enemy. Quinary: Counterproductive given the enemy. Senary action: Counterproductive given the enemy.

A pair of Lyaeus pursued from behind, while the other pair shifted through space, teleporting before the bonemobile.

In one's hand, another sun formed.

With one's prayer, space was frozen for the fleeing pair.

This time, there would be no salvation.

Lyaeus (2)
Native District
@Argonaut

To think that a human could conceal themselves from its eyes was laughable. Even many Assassin-class Servants would have failed to do the same, after all.

As such, the result was only natural. Well before the girl had reached the hot springs, she found her path barred by a pair of Lyaeus. There was no indication of hostility, no attempt to attack or even bind her, but they stood nonetheless, that threat implicit.

"I ask that you stay here, please. I would rather not stop you with force."

As it spoke, what came next went without saying. The connection to her Servant was cut.

The lightning of Gozu-Tennou struck out, and met its target.

However, it did not harm them. As with the lightning of the Modern Prometheus, that divine lightning crackled against their bodies harmlessly, disassembled into something else as it was drawn into them.

The cloud of debris would have indeed obscured the vision of most, but for them, it was trivial. Their eyes could see the existence of Raikou regardless of what visual obstructions attempted to halt it.

The trees and plants acted like free-form weapons, and within moments the fleeing Raikou was under siege by what should have been ordinarily foliage. Yet, under the Beast's command, it had become something capable of harming a Servant, not at the power of the great Disemboweling Forest but not something incomparable in nature. The ceaseless swarm of attacks bore down on her as she fled. All the while, the Lyaeus moved to close the gap.

As for the other two...

One moved with haste, as lightning cut through the air. Without even a moment of hesitation, it did something unthinkable.

With its body, it shielded both Giulia and Lilith from the lightning that would have otherwise struck them.

"...I apologize, I did not expect such an indiscriminate attack by that one."

They had not refused its offer, after all. Moreover, it could see Giulia's heart. She too was a liberator, one who gave the downtrodden and oppressed the means to free themselves. If anyone could understand the world it sought, it would be her.

"I would again ask for your aid, if you would be willing."

Lyaeus (6)
Miyama Plains
@Reflection@Sageage

...he refused. It was tragic, but expected.

Of course, it was only after that refusal that they realized something was wrong. Their will reached out to sever the hero's connection to that arm, but found that it was far more ingrained than they had expected. The line that connected the two was no different than the line that connected the hero's existence to his normal arm-...no, perhaps it was stronger even than that.

Damn it, if they had only gotten there faster-

That moment of surprise nearly kept them from forming shields as the boar quills shot out, taking the weight of those attacks.

As he moved, though, they felt genuine shock.

Those physical parameters by far eclipsed what he should have been capable of. It was nothing short of absurd.

Yes, the strength behind his movements, there was no doubt that, even when the other's abilities were taken into consideration, the sheer combat power of the paladin was not one whit inferior to that of the Sword Emperor.

He gets stronga' when shit's stacked against 'im.

They recalled those words Chiron had uttered about this man. One who became stronger the more dire the situation, a hero of reversal.

Durandal cleaved through the shields of the two it targeted like paper, but even that terrifying strength was stopped there, the blow meeting the same lack of impact as so many others.

That arm, though...

That arm, it should not have been even a tenth as problematic as it was. Indeed, the reasons it would be threatening to most were all but nonfactors to the Lyaeus, but with that hero attached to it, it had become one of the most troublesome things that any Servant possessed.

The remaining three faltered back while the two that had been attacked attempted to keep Roland at bay.

The will of those two stretched out and took root in the land.

Call on the cosmic order of the great god of this land, and-

With the will of one, space stopped. Within the immediate expanse of this combat, space itself froze, binding the two Lyaeus in place just as much as Roland.

Or at least, that would have been the case, were it not for Nega Liberator. Instead, with the will of the other, something began to condense in its hand. A miniature sun.

With the will of the remaining three, something was prepared, something cut from the same cloth as the preparations being taken against Gilles de Rais.

This threat needed to be dealt with, without delay.

Lyaeus (4)
Church Outskirts

The assault continued.

The Saber had switched to defensive tactics in an attempt to prolong the fight. His mind was working at full-tilt, but even with his abilities, this was a losing battle. Without a connection to a Master, he was working on borrowed time, and he knew it.

It took every ounce of concentration he had to fend off the attacks from four of these damned things at once, to disrupt them when they prepared something significant while also fending off the more regular attacks.

His armor was keeping him secure, but even that had its toll; the magical energy it consumed was only accelerating his fading, in his current state. This was to not even mention his relative inexperience with such defensive tactics, even if his skills were honed to perfection.

For now, he survived, but there was no doubt that the Sword Emperor's time was nearly out.

Lyaeus (2)

The Master had fled.

They allowed this. His Servant stood on the other side of the city.

By the time he reached there by his own two feet, after all, the tyrant would be long dead.

The Caster's mockery was met with nothing other than a serene smile.

"The power of the original designation, to move between the living and dead. The power of the contaminant, to revive those who have died. You will see. It will not be long, once my true body is freed."

As it spoke those words, rats poured forth.

There was no concern on the part of the Lyaeus.

Three of the four stood together, unifying their strength.

And in that moment, a mere instant after Piper had disappeared with the force of a Command Seal...

-The academy and its premises were consumed by a sun.

By the time the light faded, revealing the crater where an academy had once stood, the curses of the rats purged under the very same light that Dido currently stood against, the four Lyaeus had vanished.

The children were freed, after all. The rats destroyed, the taint of the Caster's Noble Phantasm undone. And, more pressingly, they were needed elsewhere.

"...you really are amazing, ■■■■■■■. How many times..."

Lyaeus (5)

@ReallyDumb

Before a human and a machine, a man and a woman, they arrived.

The boy's eyes told his story. There would be no attempt to win him over. He had resolved himself, after all.

"...well, if it isn't saucy Jack."

Words it did not fully understand left one's mouth.

"Just a little too late, as usual. You're not ending my plan, you're expanding it."

A simple action. A trivial one, compared to the trials its other instances faced across the city.

Two darted out to tie Jack down.

With a flicker, one appeared between Jack and the machine, to bar the two from each other.

And for the remaining two...

Their will reached out to a single thread. A thread that would not be reformed once severed.

In a single instant, they cut the line that connected the machine to the heart she held in her hands.

Lyaeus (5)
Miyama Plains
@CorpusMundum@Sageage

At long last, they arrived.

As a boy became a knight, they arrived.

There was no proposition, as they already understood the answer.

There was no attack, as the battle had yet to begin.

As the five Lyaeus surrounded the two that became one, there was nothing. No grand assault, no halting of space or creation of a sun, no severance of bonds or order of the stars.

Ah, it hated that it had to do this.

Seeing the one before him only drilled that further in. It was amazing, it was beautiful, it was the potential of humanity.

...but, it had resolved to turn its mind to steel.

It had resolved to kill, if that was what was necessary.

"You."

There were no other words.

Berserker(?) Gilles de Rais
Foreigner's Lowlands

"KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

Memories of a friend, that outstretched hand, a boy too young to hold a weapon, that maiden's smile.

The veins upon his forehead seemed ready to pop from the sheer rage he was experiencing. He could not, WILL NOT, be defeated by such creatures! Bad feelings or not, divine or not, he will struggle and roar against the very heavens until these things were torn apart. With such feelings came strength, a voice, power within his limbs that he did not expect.

Memories of a friend, that outstretched hand, a boy too young to hold a weapon, that maiden's cry.

Power, encouragement from an old friend, yet he was not trying to escape. Or rather, they went too close to him, in his state of mind, where upon nothing would be above consideration. No tactic would be too bold, too brash. His mind hurts, but he cannot stop now. Gilles did not escape the Lyaeus, but instead grabbed it with all his newfound might.

Memories of a dear friend, that limp hand, a boy too young to fight, that maiden's cry.

"Hear me, my loyal servants, for our victory is at hand! We attack them with all our might! IT IS THE MARSHALL'S ORDER! IT IS THE MARSHALL'S SIEGE ORDER!"

An army appeared, large enough to cover the field, a besieging force that brought a large amount of cannons. But... Each soldier, whereas they looked normal yet slightly off before, now was visibly cracking in their shape. Unbroken, but truly odd, with some warping into mind bending shapes. Their weapons had visible tentacles upon it, though it retained their shapes. It took but the instant the Noble Phantasm to be called, for the army to appear, and in that instant attack, numerous cannons firing not only upon Gilles's position and the other Lyaeuses near him, but any other within cannon range due to the sheer number of cannons summoned.

But yet, within, an action parallel to Gilles' was also taking place, the fluttering of pages and the chanting taking on an ominous tone, as if feeling threatened. The visions of impossible shapes was but a flash, as it seemed to call out, crying for attention.

Flaming tentacles burst out of Gilles, as if in response to the fluttering and chanting. One shot out towards the silent Lyaeus, stretching to impossible burning lengths, as several wrapped around the one nearest to him, trying to crush it within its burning grasp with terrible strength.

Memories of a dear friend, a decayed hand, a boy too young to fight back, that maiden's crackling upon the fire.

The world stopped for him. He saw many things despite closing his eyes. A final gift from his nature and insight. The true nature of what he had to protect.

Ah, so that was it’s true farewell.

This was the end of Percival, this was the birth of Percival.

He found himself cradled for the last time. His spear growing into a full tree that enveloped him with the love of all those who had nurtured him. The embrace of his mother and sister, the camaraderie of his fellow knights, the light and rune of his master. How fitting was the willow. It was perhaps fate, for it marked the spear and himself better than his master could have ever known.

He was cast in darkness, yet he only saw light. The different branches shone with the events of his life. The admiration of knights, the hunting of boar, the doting mother, the defiled and wronged duchess, the lady that laughed at and praised the fool, the red knight who stood before him, the king who he served. The end of a utopia, the end of a life. The beginning of a war, the hunting of rats, the meeting of great legends and stars, the death of thousands.

Event after event mixed together, painting the sky in a full array of colors. More and more memories, records and possibilities branched out further and further declaring other colors of his life. What has happened elsewhere from faint records in the throne, whispers from the voices spread forth as what could have beens. Possibility in all shapes, that have happened, could have but will not happen, and that which will happen.

How overwhelming was the potential and possibility in one record alone.

But there was one straight path that faced the heavens directly, the one with the strongest form, that held a gravity that the other branches were drawn to.

The path known as his life. The here, the now.

He saw his sum, his eyes focused only on himself. Then his gaze shifted, attracted by an even greater shining light.

He saw the future and he changed.

One Step Changes All.

A Second Glance Sees Possibility.

Third Came The Confirmed Future (Dream)

Four Unknown Meanings

Five Timeless Words

Six Simple Prayers.

Ten Would See It All

Stand Against/Bring Forth: The End.

With Six Humanity will reach that which lies beyond Seven (Evils/Beasts)

He held none of their nature, nor did he hold the love that would turn his blade upon the world for the sake of the world.

He will not save the world.

How funny considering that he came to ask for the strength to do so. But then again, to begin with if that was what he wanted then he would have gone for the grail quicker, or accepted the love of the one who manifested and bared his fangs upon humanity to safeguard it. It was a lesson his self in life in Britain had already learned.

The limits enforced were needed. Mankind was not yet grown enough to live a life unshackled. The possibilities brought forth and carved into the world by the pioneers had meaning precisely because they overcame a previously undeniable law, a binding upon the potential of humanity. By their efforts they invited mankind to rise to meet that new possibility opened to them. Grow, grow, grow, grow.

The tree returned into his spear and filled his hand. It was surprisingly concrete, contrary to his expectations that it would be as slippery and hard to grasp as air. But as it came into his grip again he felt that it would be impossible to tear from his hold. Returning to its place, it began to shine brightly. A rainbow of colors as it took in possibility, like a kaleidoscope. A rainbow formed as the spear twisted into itself, branches curling around each other as the shaft of the spear became an intertwined spiral of colors.

If the tree earlier was the scattered representation of possibility and time, then the spear was a focus that showed their purpose in striving towards one path, one end point.

Two colors shone the brightest.

That of a greedy Blue.

That of a peerless Gold.

The color that mankind was progressing into.

The color that held its ultimate end, his ultimate hope and that which he saw and found beautiful.

There was much suffering, much terror in this world. There was progress and there was joy as well. Yet to say that this adolescent stage of mankind was able to balance the scale so as to justify the past was hilariously naive. Not even in a few hundred years of peace, even as mankind swelled to become larger in number than it ever had before there was too much tragedy in all of human history to overcome with good.

But it would be worth it.

Ah, how beautiful it was. He saw the stars, and he saw the fate of people intertwined as they left their cradle.

Surely the ocean beyond the world (space) will captivate mankind the same way those knights had captivated the him who had known only that glen, with his mother and the leisurely days of ignorantly hunting boars.

If the growing pains of history were the fuel and price to pay for that future.

Then he will protect this present, with all its good and all its bad to the end.

It was perhaps an evil, to expect and hope for this suffering and struggle of growth upon all of humanity. Perhaps his master would understand just how much he was asking. The man who had seen his transformation first-hand, every step of the way. Perhaps he would consider it not his business, perhaps he would simply accept it as the yolk of the future.

But that suffering, that hardship. He understood it to be too great for all, and yet so small and inconsequential compared to that which humanity will face. It was cruel, much too cruel. He could perhaps understand why the one who decided that his own brand of cruelty would be preferable.

But he trusted in the shine of gold. So he would bear his own blade against the one who would break order.

Yes, in the name of order, in the name of that future. He would deny that overflowing love.

The youth did not rise again after all. What rose was instead a man, a blossomed adult who reached the end of his journey as an adolescent. His body grew, his eyes grew keener with wisdom and experience. Still a fair young man, still a beautiful knight. Yet that was hardly the end. Taking his spear in hand, he looked to his cousin before moving to greet those who came to visit the two.

“You.”

That was all that needed to be said indeed.

He raised his spear.
