You have died. You know at least that much. Rather than growing old and passing, you left the mortal coil early. But you didn't die. Not in the traditional sense, anyways. Your eyes closed for the last time, yet they opened. You took your last breath, yet you breathed. You were gone, yet you're here. Except this wasn't your home anymore. It wasn't even Earth. This place was strange; you awoke holding your breath. It was difficult to open your eyes. But this feeling was familiar. It was cold and smothering, as if you were trapped underwater. In fact, you were trapped underwater. In a panic, you managed to stand. Your upper half erupted from the cold water. You were drowning in a fountain. Besides a few curious onlookers watching, nobody really cared about you.
Looking around, it was obvious this wasn't your world. Worn down stone tiles covered the grounds. Wood and stone buildings were carefully built, but gave wide berth to the fountain. The largest building had an extremely worn down path; the thick groove coming out of the fountain flowed directly to the large building. It was the most ornate out of all of the buildings. Instinctively, you walked down the worn path to the building. You saw hundreds of signs outside the building. Languages. Some were familiar like 'Bienvenido', 'ようこそ', and 'добро пожаловать'. Some were in odd languages you had never seen before. But the largest sign was above the door. It was written as a collection of lines and dots formed in a way you had never seen before, but you could easily read it.
'Welcome to Rengoku'
Upon entering, light seemed to vanish from the world. Whatever windows the building possessed were covered by stacks of books and papers. There wasn't a single place to sit. In the middle of the room was a desk. Behind it, a beautiful man sat. His face was rather distinct, appearing more as a model than a clerk. Flowing garments of silk shrouded his thin form. With wire-frame glasses accentuating his sharp eyes and long, silk-like black hair, he pushed the paper and pen on his desk towards you. Without so much as a word from the man, you read the paper. On it, a single phrase and a single line.
'What do you wish to be?'
Locations:
- Rengoku
The City of New Dawns
A large city in which everyone wakes. At the center is the town square, which has both the fountain and the ornate building where you met the many-faced man. To the north are the markets, to the east and south are the residential buildings, and to the west are the businesses. The city has a rich history, with worn down stone pathways and old, medieval European architecture.
x - Old Castle Ruins
Baby's First 'Dungeon'
Located an hour south east of Rengoku, people around the city often talk about the ruins. While knowledge of the place is often kept secret, rumors often speak of a limitless supply of skeletons carrying rare armaments inside.
Terms:
- Currency
Rengoku and most cities use a basic coin called 'Pana'. Pana is divided into denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25, 100, and 500. For simplicity's sake, it is implied you always have enough for bread and board unless stated otherwise. - Class Packets
A visual representation of your class with affinities and skills. Note: Classes can change with adequate experience or knowledge.- Affinities
The weapons your class innately know how to use. Additional affinities can be gained by training and experience. Mechanically, it's more efficient to use equipment you have affinities with. More damage, more chances to hit, etc. They are most similar to proficiencies in D&D. - Skills
The abilities of classes. Often appearing as odd memories, skills let you understand how to manipulate your body to maximum effect. The more you use a skill, the more familiar it becomes, which in turn makes it more efficient. Additional skills can be gained by experience, training, or doing weird things.

Combat:
- Combat will be reminiscent of D&D and even more simplified. It will require google docs and the ability to view spreadsheets.
- Combat is separated into rounds, with each character acting once per round. Each round is about six seconds long. Priority is decided with what makes sense in a narrative standpoint (IE, ambush, closest to target, etc) and the order will stay constant throughout rounds.
- In order to allow for all levels of play, people can choose to fight without dealing with stats. I'll do everything behind the scenes. They will still need to know movement and see the spreadsheet, though.
- A turn for a player consists of one movement and one action. This action consists of any attack, item usage, dodge, dash, or anything that takes more than one second. If a minor action can be done within one second, you do it for free but only once per round. Some abilities are unaffected.
- Dodging makes attacks less likely to hit. You can brace with a shield, negating damage.
- Dashing allows you to move twice the distance.
- All complex mechanics in a fight are on a "makes-sense" basis. If it makes sense, then it's good.
- If you want stat blocks, tell me and I'll hook you up.

Character Creation:
General rules are as follows: your character can be from anywhere on Earth, but will come from modern times and be new arrivals. DM me if otherwise so we can talk in private. Characters are human, but some classes can allow for non-human features. DM me if you're thinking of that so we can work something out. I'm only accepting, at max, 8 people, so characters won't be accepted on a first come first serve basis.[hider=character]
