What creator or piece of media directly influences your stories and characterizations for this game?

It's like if The Winter Soldier and the Bourne trilogy had a baby, and it was raised by Daniel Craig's Bond movies using Netflix Daredevil and Punisher as nursery stories.

I'm gonna ask a Sep question that I know most of you motherfuckers are gonna answer because it's about how you write. And some of you seem to love doing that more than actually fucking writing your posts.

What creator or piece of media directly influences your stories and characterizations for this game?

The answer doesn't have to be comic book related, but who or what do you draw the most inspiration from when you're writing? Is it a TV show, a certain writer's run on a comic book, maybe a movie or book series? What of the previously mentioned things influences you the most when you sit down to actually write?

You already know, baby.

It was the Star Wars prequels.

But seriously, obviously John Woo has had a big influence on how I play Frank, but I've also thrown in nods to the Max Payne series which provided the basis for my basic outline of Frank's personality. As for the Question, I've taken influences from the X-Files, Twin Peaks, classic noir trappings and tropes, Bruce Lee flicks, and a dash of Kolchak the Night Stalker.

Huh well, I have a few random Captain Marvel comics from when she still had good hair, but of course I'm going to Ms Marvel not Captain Marvel. So really only some major ideas from Avengers: Earth's mightest heroes, which is the only good cartoon version of her I've found. Then I literally just scrouge wiki pages and stuff for characters and villains I can use, then just write how I think it should go.

All I can say is right now, I am 100% certain my story will be oodles more entertaining that whatever plot they come up in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie. I don't have much confidence in that movie after they made a big stink about her being a female superhero. I mean, it'll probably be ok but...I can write better. XD

So, I have my post ready, but it's rather short, at a little under 2000 characters. Should I take some time to beef it up, and is it okay for me to do so?

If you feel like you could beef it up, then do it, but if you think you said what needs to be said and anymore stuff that you could add would just be filler and not add anything to it, then feel free to post it.

A lot of mine are pretty obvious-- Birthright is and probably always will be my template for how I want Superman and his world to 'feel' in terms of dialogue and energy, Lois is heavily inspired by Dana DeLaney's performance in the Animated Series, and there's plenty of elements and character interpretations from Man of Steel and BvS (obnoxious creeper Lex is so much more fun to write than generic-evil-corporate-guy Lex) I've also been re-watching a lot of Avatar: The Last Airbender, not necessarily for character notes (though Jimmy is pretty much Sokka in my mind), but for notes on pacing, tone, energy, when to go light and when to go dark, etc. And my occasional interludes from Mr. Mxy are shamelessly ripping off Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls.

This is an easy answer: Joss Whedon, and specifically Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Joss, IMO, just does the kind of comic book writing that I love, and the fact that he can mix the quippy dialogue I like with the more heavy themes and emotional beats that make you really fall in love with his characters. Plus I'm using the idea of having a bunch of normal people/friends who help the super powered badass teenage girl save the world thing he does so well.

There's also stuff from the game...but I blame the game on being so damn good and fitting in with what I was already doing.

So, I have my post ready, but it's rather short, at a little under 2000 characters. Should I take some time to beef it up, and is it okay for me to do so?

My opinion: A short post is better than agonizing over trying to put together a long one, especially if your're trying to get going with your character. We're still a "Casual" game for a reason. Once you get your feet under you and feel good about the direction of your character, then you can get into the bigger posts.

Brian Jacques and Timothy Zahn are definitely huge influences for my writing. To a lesser extent I would also attribute some of it to J.K. Rowling, Tolkien and Kevin J. Anderson.

However I also draw on movies and television with a lot of my arcs starting with my version of a 'Cold Open'. Crime dramas in particular favour this approach. Smallville, Star Trek, Veronica Mars, the Arrowverse, Grimm, Angel and Firefly all heavily influence the way I write my stories and build my worlds.

Obviously as mentioned above, Star Wars also plays a part in my inspiration and for this character in particular and a lot of other recent superhero jaunts, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a big source of inspiration.

I'm sure there's plenty more I can think of but off the top of my head there it is.

What he said, @Witryso.

Also, I plan on working a few posts because I might not be on at all for a few days. If you can guess why, then you get a cookie.

I don't know if I can nail down a particular creator. As a film scholar and a lover of movies and TV, I tend to write in a more cinematic fashion that focuses more on angles than typical fiction writing (though this is, in some way, inspired by my love of comics as well). As a film student/nerd, I also love breaking conventional rules while writing. The most apparent example is the fight scene in the unnamed Chinese Restaurant for Iron Fist. Instead of describing the action in the kitchen, I attempted to describe the sounds and kept the proverbial camera in the restaurant interior until Iron Fist came out to interrogate the criminal.

If I had to point to particular examples that have influenced my writing, it's easy to point to the Daredevil and Iron Fist shows. While not superb, I think the Iron Fist show humanized Daniel Rand in an interesting way and built up believable relationships with some characters. Daredevil I think does a more marvelous job of humanizing the character while emphasizing the consequences of being a citizen and a vigilante (especially in this last season) that I've already been playing with in regards to Daniel Rand's dual-identity.

As for other sources of inspiration? Edgar Wright, Joss Whedon, Shakespeare... It isn't obvious by any means, but I try to incorporate their characterizations and modes of storytelling whenever I write (specifically their complexities).
