Evelyn Chambers – Tulpa

She'd hoped for more, but expected less, so Elliot's response was...acceptable. Ambiguous, but she supposed that he could hardly know how difficult it was for her to admit she was wrong about something. They didn't know eachother, so it made sense. What surprised her though, was the others coming out and what ensued when they did.

She had wanted some time to talk things out with Elliot, but this...this was something else entirely. At first she had to suppress a frown, a feeling rising from deeper within that was the niggling parasite of anger, an emotion already roused trying to take control. It was like they hadn't trusted her to handle things. However, it never got the foothold it needed, for Tiger Lily's words doused it and cut away at the negativity. The tightness in her chest loosened and she found a tear in her eye, a small smile crossing her lips.

The girl really was brave, she had to give it to her. Still.... She swallowed hard and wiped away the tear, her smile receding slightly. Before anyone might really notice, their attention on Elliot, it became more guarded. Still, she took a step towards Elliot and Tiger Lily, trying to meet his eyes, even as he struggled to escape.

Before she knew what she was saying, her mouth had moved, "It's not whether you fail or not that's important, it's if you get back up and keep trying or lay down and let it rule you." That said, she heard Messiah and Mastar out, visibly flinching slightly as the former of the two mentioned not lashing out at people, specifically at Tiger Lily.

'Nasty memories. Terrible failures, but we're all still here...I've still got a chance....'

The light of her projection flickered out of the ground and wall near them for a moment, before her awareness of it had it snap back out of sight.

"I think that's a good idea, Mesia—Alessa," she said, cutting off the alias partway through. She kept forgetting to use their real names outloud.... "That aside though, we have a mission to take care of. I'd like to...revisit this, but I don't think these problems will solve themselves all at once." That said, she stopped herself from taking charge and glanced to Alessa, delegating leadership to their team leader.

'Ugh,' she thought, displaying none of the emotion on her face or in her body language. Guarded, but relaxed. She took a few quiet, deep breaths, focusing herself. Embracing the calm...and the cold. Focus and control. They were more important now than ever before and she meant to keep them in mind through it all.

As Elliot declared himself a failure Lillian shook her head against his chest. "You're not a failure," she said softly. "I couldn't even kill myself right. If either of us is a failure it'd be me."

He was struggling against her and she was both afraid to let go and afraid to maintain contact. They weren't so different, were they? They'd both had it hard and that wall that separated them from others had gotten in the way again.

How terrible.

"Please don't leave," she murmured as she released her grip and stepped away awkwardly. Alessa was talking but she hadn't really heard much of anything from her. And Kendall too. Her face flushed a little as she cleared her throat. Thankfully this was when Evelyn stepped in and directed everyone back to the task at hand, to which Lillian silently mouthed a 'thank you' at the older girl. Hurriedly wiping at her face she took a deep breath before letting it out slowly.

"Okay. Okay. Yeah. Let's do this," she said, seemingly to herself. In truth she was still feeling a little raw from Elliot's initial jabs and more than a little emotional from this little scene. She was just happy that they'd at least made a start and that no random bystanders had been around for all of this. Which was a little weird, actually, now that she actually noticed it. It was almost like that calm silence before a big rain... She really hoped that wasn't a metaphor for their mission. Because that would be horrible. With that parting thought she took the first step back towards the HQ.

Entering the HQ building all together would be a terrible idea. While traffic might be light this morning it wouldn't do to risk giving away their identities somehow.

But that's why there was the back entrance. Slipping into the parking garage and heading down to the second floor there was a fairly boring looking door with a passcode and watchful camera. Quickly entering in their weekly authorization code let them open the door and slip inside into a small little hallway that was pretty scarce. Following that would get them to the internal checkpoint where they would then, again, provide authorization through retina scans before entering the building proper.

From there it was a simple matter of going to the Wards HQ where they could pull off their deceit. With Decoy informed and watching, it was up to them to be convincing.

Barry listened to Creep and nodded approvingly, "That sounds very good, the sooner the better. The name is Barry Reeves." With that he wrote down a number, his name and an address. The man seemed as genuine as they came.

Then he continued, "Would it be possible to have an interviewed conducted today?" He seemed very eager to get on with a new line of work.

Alessa Heather: Little Owl Cafe --> PRT HQ

Alessa wasn’t sure how much of her speech had been heard by whom, and she did hope Elliot would agree, but it was nice to see that at least Evelyn and Lily were in agreement: they needed to meld more, and with that in mind, they should probably focus on their mission first. Collin and his contact needed to be dealt with.

...actually, it occurred to her as she received the response text back from Decoy, maybe the two ideas can work together.

Her back and forth with Decoy was fairly solid, and sorted out a framework for the actual plan. Once that was sorted out, she sent a group text to the other Wards, informing everybody of the actual plan, and reminding them how tantamount silence on the matter was now that they were starting to draw back toward the HQ. Entering through the back entrance was a simple enough affair, and sensible given the circumstances; once they were all in, they made their way to the Wards HQ, Alessa in particular making small talk with Lillian about their relationship, and making a more concerted effort to say some stuff to Elliot in order to try and approach him emotionally, rather than leaving him feeling like he was unapproachable.

‘Okay, guys, I’ve been thinking,’ she uttered pleasantly as they began to enter their section of the building. Faking genuine emotion was simple enough, when one had practiced disguising their voice for an alternate identity for a year and a bit - and, of course, when that emotion was already present to some extent anyway. ‘We had our discussion about how we need to be more cohesive as a team, and I thought it’d take longer to come up with a starting point, but I’ve had an idea already. Ladies and gentlemen,’ she announced with quite a bit of excitement, ‘I think it might be high-time we took a hike around Red Rocks Park. Just us five, no costumes or missions or anything, as soon as we're all ready to go today. What do you guys think? Because I think we need a break from that stress, you know, it can't be helping how we interact with one another.’

The Wards

Arrangements and Excitements

Oh joy. The control freak was suicidal. Isn't that a good combination. Shut it! You're just a voice, you don't have any real power!

Kendall shivered slightly in the breeze as they looked at the other Wards, a smile softly and slowly appearing on their face again. This... this was a resolution, albeit not the best resolution it could've been. There would be more time for reparation later, maybe even later today, but right now this was going to be fine. It better be fine, or this wouldn't be a livable arrangement for long, even if she really didn't like the idea of going back to being alone at home all the time.

"A hike sounds nice," Kendall chimed in response to Alessa's idea. "Fresh air, team bonding, I'm kind of excited now, actually!" Kendall thought about it for a moment before thinking about the few more things they had to do personally. They scooted themselves away, claiming they had a few things they needed to do first, before rushing up to their room in the building and going through the things they had there... which was a decent amount.

A bit of it was still in the big cardboard box, but they knew that the box had... aha! Their dry-erase board! Perfect for writing things down and drawing! Normally it was the former, save for the few drawings of the Wards that they did from time to time, but right now it had it's real purpose. Kendall brought the board over to the bed and began writing on it, the eerie squeaks of the marker sounding throughout the room. What they wrote wasn't much, just a quick [Try to get more therapy sessions] and nothing else. Anything else being written there would be a bit worrisome.

Okay... maybe one more thing would be okay to be written. [Befriend Margrave]. They considered writing Tulpa up there, but they decided against it. Let's take things slower, shall we?

After that, Kendall grabbed a backpack, and simply began to pack some things up into it.

Chatterbox
Theme

As things spiralled further out of control, Chatterbox narrowed his eyes...and then closed them. With the chaos around him in Concourse A, and the reports coming in from elsewhere in the airport he decided it would soon be time to drop the act.

Further accentuating this was the reports of crashes...some that may or may not have actually happened. Everything was questionable. Punctuating things was the communication from Headhunter. Even with the clamor of the crowd and the tension around him, he smiled.

"Heard, Hunter. I'm going to mobilize the fans. I'm taking control of this performance. We'll get all the actors stepping in line. Thunder, Sofia put your costumes on under your civies and come to my gate," he then told them where he'd meet them. That done he changed channels, connecting to his thralls.

"Mobilize. Initate operation crowd control. The performance begins," as he said it he used tapcode to coordinate other movements. Several empowered thralls were in his concourse—plenty actually—and they moved in his general direction. As they did they appeared to carry on phone calls, sounding hurried and scared, but what they were really doing...was giving reason for how often and how loudly they were speaking, spreading his influence throughout the crowd many times over. The effects overlapping. Throughout the airport similar scenarios were unfolding, with the enthralled security and civilians using his power to direct and control the situation. There may or may not have been death and catastrophe.

Sadly, while it would help—more and more as time went on—it also meant that it was far more likely that he'd reveal his cards to the authorities. Unfortunate, but if it were necessary to further their goals, and save lives...he supposed, then he'd do it readily.

His enthralled, body doubles essentially, people he'd picked up who held a certain resemblance to his visage, had made their way to various bathrooms...in which they would change. These individuals were thoroughly under his control and held his power. It would be almost impossible to tell which was the real cape.

He entered a bathroom as well, changed...and then pulled clothes over his costume, keeping it hidden. It wasn't time just yet. Still, now armed and ready to take on his persona he knew hew as prepared for the next stage of his plan.

The first had been damage control. Operation: Crowd Control, was a directive that allowed his thralls...and the empowered among them, to influence and induct as many people as possible as quickly as possible with the intention of controlling a situation. It was adaptive, allowing his thralls to act in the way that best fit the scenario. In this case they assisted wounded, comforted people, or in some rare cases...joined in with the panic, yelling and screaming to spread the influence of his power more rapidly.

The second step, on the other hand, was much different. It was geared towards objective resolution. In this case...it involved the thinkers under his control. "Brainiacs its your time to shine. Target appears to be in Concourse B. Focus your efforts on areas therein. Scan up and down...notify when and where your powers cease working. If it's consistent we can tell direction and location."

He then switched his comms back to the Jacks.

"I've got a plan."

Jason

Jason glanced down at Sofia as he listened to Chatterbox's directions. It seemed his teammate forgot that his clothing didn't exactly jive with a costume underneath, let alone the specialized helmet he'd have to carry. He would stand out in either situation, and being seen in costume was the preferred option with that in mind.

"I'm just going to suit up," he said quietly, moving to change discreetly.

Stepping back out a few moments later he crouched down, since Whimsy would've been ready long before him, and offered the girl a chance to ride on his back yet again. With her power and his own physical capabilities they'd make it in no time.

Evelyn Chambers – Tulpa

Doing her utmost to keep up with conversation—and largely to feign interest—Evelyn eventually found herself smiling...actually enjoying the dynamic. Though, she supposed it was easy while they weren't doing anything horrible. Her eye twitched and her smile diminished slightly, before a joke pulled her back in. She let it happen, it was part of the plan and...well, she'd had plenty of practice acting now. She understood how social situations worked quite well and knew how to give of the right impression.

As Messiah brought up her 'team bonding plan,' Evelyn actually felt a kernal of true joy. "That actually sounds really fun!" She said, actually fairly enthusiastic, "...maybe we can even do some kind of team exercise up there. Might be good to work on teamwork, it'd increase cohesion just as much as the hike will I think." That said she gauged the crowd, glancing at the members of her team.

Messiah, Tiger Lily, Mastar, and Elliot. Then, another idea striking her, she leaned in and spoke, now quietly so only they could hear. "Hey, maybe...maybe we can play hooky to go. It'd be fun..." she bit her lip, feigning a sense of being bad, though obviously not in a way that really mattered. Everyone skipped school at least once and there was nothing wrong with that.

She hoped the others would catch on to the fact that doing so made them additionally vulnerable. It'd enhance the chances that Sonar would report to his Community contact.

Maybe for once things might go their way.

Mina Kreiger (Alloy)

Mina felt a jolt of surprise as the plane crashed into the concourse, sending everything flying and sending glass so fast at her it managed to dig into her metal-coated arm. Yet in a heartbeat, the plane and its damage was gone. Only...only the glass remained, and it was very much real unlike what else might be happening. Though as the girl grit her teeth whilst pulling out the glass from her metal-covered arm, an idea hit her mind amidst the pain. It was...kind of dumb, but as she finally made her way over to the trashcan and began to get her gear she felt she wouldn't be able to guess anything else at the moment on her own.

Excusing herself quickly into the ladies' restroom, as her metallic skin swiftly knit back together once the glass had been fully removed, Mina listened in on the rest of the group's chatter over the comms as she changed in the handicap stall. Varying reports, and...wait, the subject was spotted in HER area?! The member of the Jacks cursed under her breath before pinging back in on the comms as she finished getting her attire on, pulling on her civvie clothes for added "cover" for the moment being in case anyone saw her. Her mask, meanwhile, was left in the bag as she put the bag up on her shoulder for carrying.

"Plane hit the terminal where i was, but the whole scene disappeared soon after like it wasn't there. The glass the damn thing put in my arm didn't go away though, but i pulled it all out. So i am not sure if this guy is using illusions, or some erratic, large-scale, wibby wobbley timey wimey time/reality manipulation here.

If it's Concourse B the target is moving to, though, i can head that direction to do recon on my end if needed. Otherwise i'll stand by with my suit on under civilian clothes for now."
the metallic girl said, calmly moving to leave the women's restroom to avoid making a scene or acting suspicious. Hell if that tear on her arm wasn't adding a bit of a punk look to her clothes now. Sheesh.

Allison Mead (Excaliblast)

The class seemed to turn to stare at her, shock written into their faces as she felt a sense of dread bloom within her. The group she had run into a time ago with Mantis and the others? They were here. The Community, one of the most dangerous parahuman groups in the city...ironically they'd just learned about them a little the prior class, albeit only as a brief mention/explanation amidst other things about Parahuman Gangs. And now the lesson, and that bit of her past she'd rather have put away from her mind, was coming back to haunt her pretty badly....which was putting it mildly as frustrations and anger coursed through her mind.

Damn that stupid Mantis and his idea of getting her onto that suicide mission, and getting those others like Whip killed.

Damn Mantis for being the asshole that she'd dreamt a couple times of chocking to death with her bare hands (which had been a bit cathartic for her).

And damn these Community bastards for shooting up a college campus, and ruining what quiet life she had wanted!

Allison suddenly stood from her seat, almost about to shout back at the PA speaker despite knowing it'd be futile. And yet, she found herself taking a few slow, calm breaths as her rational side sought to reassert control quickly under the circumstances.

"EH?! You're a parahuman?! And THOSE guys are after you?!?!" one muscular male classmate called out, shocked in his tone of voice.

"Maybe these guys just want an excuse to kill us?! I mean, how could Allison be a parahuman? Albeit that'd be a pretty big secret," another girl retorted, a bit of panic tinting her voice at the same time though.

"Honestly it doesn't matter either way, guys, we are probably all dead even if she went out to get stuck like a pig. Might as well hope some of us trigger in the process and survive this crap..."

This is what Allison had feared in part, everyone figuring this bit out. Not that her class here was the worst group for it...hell many of the girls she'd slept with were in this course, some in this very room. They knew her well enough. Then again, it was not like they would have been the only ones to hear that over the PA....joy.

It was then the girl looked to her professor, who was looking at her both curiously, though some shock still lied behind the man's experienced yet normally calm eyes.

"A while ago some assholes left me in the trainyard for a party, i ran into some people, got powers from a strange vial, and got tricked into attacking someone from the Community. It was terrible, shit hit the fan, i helped kill a few murderous assholes once i got in too deep, and i hoped to get away by coming back here. A big perspective pill i had to swallow that day since i started on this degree. Also i like sleeping with the ladies, but that's no secret i wouldn't want to give out~

But this shit is catching up with me now it seems, and imma go try to do something. It's stupid, but everyone here see if they can make a barricade against the one damn door into this room. And if we've not learned anything else about parahumans here, cover your damn ears whenever the PA comes on or something, idk if this asshat has mental powers. They can't hear us from here anyways.

Oh, and if you all live, please bury me somewhere nice, k?"

With that, Allison began to swiftly move towards the door, before another male student got in her way and spread out his arms.

"Wait! You are going to die out there, you idiot. What makes a bitch like you so sure you can-" he began to say, before Allison gave a flick of her wrist and a blade came out an inch from the boy's throat.

A wave of silence took over the room as at least one thing was confirmed. Their classmate was a parahuman, and she had a story for how it happened. After an audible gulp, then, the male classmate moved to the side and allowed Allison to make her way towards the doors. It was here that the brown-haired bombshell began to, despite the stares of her still-shocked classmates, make a shield wall of blades around the doorway. Though as she was about to close herself and the doorway off from the rest of the classroom, another...albeit more familiar female classmate approached her suddenly, causing Allison to pause for a moment...and then sigh.

"Look, Allison, i....well, you...hell, be careful out there, ok? You're really cute, and i know we left you in the trainyard but....shit, just stay alive, ok?" the girl said, before leaning in and planting a brief kiss on Allison's lips.

The brown haired girl was shocked for a moment, though gave a laugh another moment later. So that is where this cutie was from, and those hips were rather recognizable to boot...heh, Nina was it? Without an audible word coming out, Allison leaned in and kissed the girl lightly on the lips in return before pulling back and winking before finishing her barrier.

"Heh, once i am done here, once we are all out of this, me and you need to go on a date. I know this nice little place downtown near a hotel, eh Nina? So don't let your cute little ass worry over this too much, worry more about what you'll wear when we get all cozy in bed later~"

Yup, she could go die now, with this girl as her valkyrie...ah, or perhaps she was overly hyping herself up to hide the emotions? Not like she felt any better about this, fears of death and dying, and even anger coursing in her mind, and all of this emotion being fought against by what rationality and self-control she had right now. But...ah, this was truly madness at its core, wasn't it? She was going to die here, wasn't she? That stupid crap from before haunting her in the worst ways now.

'Might as well go down laughing like a loony and acting like a badass...maybe. Or at least try to make them worry a tiny bit less....imma kill Mantis if i live through this, i swear to-,'

With her mind turning back to the situation at hand, and sounds of the professor calling out to tell the remaining students to help him barricade the room heard from over the wall of blades, Allison summed up the courage to hold her wrists forward...and kicked open the wooden lecture hall doors in front of her.

The moment she saw anything that didn't seem to be a dead body or cowering student, if anything, she'd fire at them for sure. Anything to not instantly die to a bullet in the brain.

But if she could, she would be making her way to the offices....where the PA system was. Stupid? Yes it was. But others would be or had been calling the police, probably, and someone had to have the bullet aimed at them for now until help got here... Might as well be herself.

Sofia Stien - The Airport

Sofia listened carefully, hoping that things would be made more clear quickly, but to no avail. Chatterhead was just talking about his plan and how they needed to get into costume. Sofia didn't really have much of a costume but she'd be told she needed at least a facemask so she'd gotten one. Sofia emerged from the bathroom, still mostly a gray blob, just wearing a facemask now. She waited nervously a bit for Jason, not relishing alone time when the world wasn't behaving the way it was supposed to. Things would go better than last time, they had to right? She was more than happy to piggyback on Jason as soon as he showed up, holding perhaps a bit more tightly than necessary, but still ready to help plow through anything in their way.

Creep
Sheila Hopkins

Outside Rockers HQ

Creep’s phone-screen lit up, telling her she had gotten a text-message. The man introduced himself as Barry Reeves, but all that basically went out of her head when she switched to looking at her messages and read the text. Red, 2. The number was from a Rocker that was currently inside the headquarter.

It really could only mean one thing. Red, the alarm level. 2, was a bit more vague to its meaning but the most reasonable was that there were two infiltrators. No time to lose. She terminated the call immediately and then wrote a message to send to all members of the Rockers in Denver. She’d have a number primed so she could send the same message to everyone.

@BCTheEntity@solokolos@LemonZest1337@Spiffy

We have visitors. Don’t know how long they’re planning on staying, but I could use some help if you think you have the time. Let me know?

A bunch of codewords. “Visitors” mean enemies at the HQ. “Don’t know how long they’re planning on staying” means takeover. “Help” means red alert. “If you think you have the time” means we’re probably losing, and that those who don’t feel confident should stay away from the HQ, those still inside should evacuate. “Let me know” means contact the leader directly if you wish to help or if you have more information, and if so they could get more information in turn.

Having sent the message to all Rockers, Creep staggered back from the building. She WANTED to run inside, to gauge the damage, to scout out the enemies and ascertain the situation. However… “The Rockers seem to have acquired a Stranger”, were Patriarch’s words. This was an attack on the Rockers, and they knew of the Stranger. They’d send someone who could deal with Strangers. For this reason, Creep took cover around a corner, invisible, waiting for more information while hoping to see Rockers evacuating…

@Spiffy

It sounded like Creep was listening to what he said… and then she suddenly hung up.

Moments later there was a text message received in the phone he was holding, and one in the phone which the more tired-looking receptionist held. The two Rockers looked at the phone, while perhaps Swarm looked at the same message. A moment later the receptionist looked just a bit pale and then turned to him while reaching forward to take back the phone.

’I’m sorry, but something seems to have come up, we’ll come back to you when we can. I suggest you leave the building, because, er, we are. Have a good day.’

With that the two Rockers stood up and left for the front door to exit.

The Community Strikes Back

@PlatinumSkink@Spiffy@BCTheEntity@solokolos@Lemonzest1337
Chapter Two: The Rockers
As Creep made the call and sent the text, men and women began to exit the building. Pester was not seen among them, though there were still more inside. Barely a third of the Rockers on base had left when the two receptionists made it through the doors and suddenly collapsed, two arrows clattering against the ground beside the two of them. A second later a series of crashing noises could be heard from inside as something seemed to be demolishing walls if the sounds indicated anything.

@Belladonna@Lemonzest1337@Yoshua171@Ambrosine
(Open invitation to Independents to get involved)
Chapter Three: The City
As Outsider guided the helicopter into safer territory it seemed someone had gotten through to the pilot as he began shutting down the systems. The crew was still filming, it seemed, not that Outsider could really tell.

Sylph, meanwhile, was courageously attempting to bring Eyeblight to ground. And that was easier said than done, especially considering that she couldn't risk looking at him. In the mere moments that he had been in this new area, however, he had already caused a fair amount of mayhem. A fire hydrant was spraying water against a car that had hit it, and there were power lines that were dangling over the street. Combined the two hazards threatened to cause significant harm to bystanders that hadn't succumbed to the madman's raving attempts to draw attention to himself.

Speaking of, he could be heard cussing profusely nearby. Perhaps to her front and right? There was a scream entwined with a sob and the sound of a body falling and colliding with concrete. Not a sickening splat, but it didn't sound pretty. Whatever Sylph was going to do the had better act fast if she didn't want more people injured or killed.

As Meta prepared for Celia, the villain scaled the building effortlessly. As she gripped the side of the roof, however, she seemed to pause. And then suddenly she was on the rooftop and moving quickly towards Meta. Like lightning her fist struck out, connecting with the lower section of the shield with a thunderous crescendo of cracks and snaps. Her fist continued through, the section of the shield around the impact zone shattered and breaking as cracks extended out. Her fist connected with Meta's midsection before jutting back to grab onto the edge of the hole in the shield as her other hand grabbed the edge and she pulled, hard.

Down below Abaddon was resorting to aggressive measures. Lamprey's face set into one filled with determination as she dived forward, carving out a small indent into the ground as the wreckage soared over her and further down the street. The smaller piece of metal bounced off of her back and legs, tearing into cloth and the surface layers of skin. She ran forward, making a dive in an attempt to catch Abaddon before the breaker could ascend above Lamprey's range.

@Crusader Lord
Chapter Four: The Girl
As Allison left the room, much to various levels of worry and consternation, the PA system crackled to life again.

"Well now, what do we have here? Little Allison the useless drunk. Scrapes by in class more from the teacher's pity than her own skill. If only she'd known that she could've just taken advantage of the situation to appease that nymphomania with her lusty old teacher to get those A's. But, of course, she's too fucking stupid to think of something so obvious. Did you know your parents are the only reason you're here, Ally? Poor little Dean boy here took a fat little bribe to keep you here. They didn't even know about your whore ways, but they knew you weren't going to last by yourself. Couldn't stand having you come back home, so they made sure you wouldn't have a reason to."

As Allison rounded a corner there was a spray of automatic gunfire from up ahead, bullets tearing into the walls around her.

"Dean takes bribes, your professor is more interested in getting some than teaching, and will you look at this! The school sports teams have been deflating balls and slipping the good old Roids just to win and keep their scholarships! You really did surround yourself with mediocrity, Al. Makes you feel like you're more than the trash that you really are, doesn't it? Pathetic."

Silvia's attempt to get his attention had failed, the mad man was still going after people and causing damage. She needed to stop him from getting to anyone else but from the sounds he was about to get another victim, the thud of a body hitting concrete was a clear indicator of that. She trembled as she had no idea how to deal with this situation the cables and water everywhere didn't help her calm down either, she knew how dangerous live wires were and was in no hurry to see if she was able to survive making contact with them, she was tough but she didn't think she was that tough.

She needed to think quickly, find a way to get his attention and then make sure to catch him in a tornado. But he was far to busy going for bystanders, Silvia remember how he wanted people to look at him so that they would panic, maybe if she called him out as if he were a coward trying to hide from her. That might work. She did have a general idea of which direction he was in because of the thud against the concrete so she would go that way. She needed to... Lower her arm and look straight ahead if her bluff was to be believed by the villain, if he saw Silvia standing there covering her vision while shouting that he was a coward he might just ignore her, she couldn't afford that. With a great amount of hesitation she lowered her arm uncovering her face. "Coward where are you!? Stop hiding and show yourself!" she was looking in the direction the thud had come from so if he did take the bait she would see him come at her, at least if he didn't try sneaking around to try and flank her, but then he'd have to get past her wind barrier.

Chad Belton: On the Move

It was a couple of minutes after he left the house that Chad received Sheila’s text: We have visitors. Don’t know how long they’re planning on staying, but I could use some help if you think you have the time. Let me know? “Help”, the code red phrase, not to mention the other coded messages. The base was under attack, then, and what good planning he’d engaged in: he had his Cape outfit on him, all folded up in his backpack. Why wouldn’t he? But, at this sort of time... was he truly needed? Maybe, maybe not... ah, but he couldn’t really. The teachers might be upset if he didn’t-

...no they wouldn’t. They barely noticed him to begin with, if at all. He was a good enough student, and that was all they cared about. Not teaching him anything new, not helping protect him from the bullying he’d suffered, not fucking giving him any sort of helping hand, but maybe he’d bite it off anyway of they did, then start shredding the arm connected to it, let their blood pour out and the muscle and cartilage fly all over the ground-

‘Yeah, I’ve got time,’ he murmured to himself, sending back a text to Sheila specifically: I can make it. He always tended to leave a little early... a lot early anyway, so if he went at a moderate jog the whole way there, and back afterwards, he could probably make it into his first class in good time, even if he had to change. And he would, of course. Could just put the firefighter stuff over his school uniform... yeah, yeah that’d work out.

Moderate jog, then. He trained, he was fit enough to handle that. He recalled the building, figured out the route from where he was in his mind, and began to move toward the HQ. He’d stop off a few minutes away just to change into costume, and then... whatever needed helping with, he'd help with.

Once he realized the futility of his halfhearted attempts at escape, Elliot simply stood, still as a statue, and waited for the ordeal to be over. He heard everything spoken by the other Wards -how could he not have?- but gave no reply. No attempts at amelioration garnered acknowledgment, and neither did he take up any oaths regarding Alessa's demand for pacification nor push for coherence. However, he neglected any overt hostility, broodiness, or resentment too, which in and of itself said something.

Elliot remained distant as the group, little by little, trickled back to PRT HQ through its more subversive entrance. One nigh-unknown to the public as a hero required little in the way of cautiousness to hide his identity, but the mental energy otherwise spent being inconspicuous allowed him to replay the terrible scene over and over in his mind. He wanted nothing more than to wipe this morning away. Never had he thought he might be confronted in any serious capacity, and in the moment of weakness he'd let the gig up. For a minute or two, the young man showed the depressed little heroes not the Margrave, but Elliot, a worthless entity made of shame, incompetence, and envy, best left buried deep, deep below. It would not happen again. When the others failed to live up to their new resolutions, having realized their pity project beyond salvation, the Margrave would be alone once more.

Eventually the Wards strode reunited into their team's designated area, tucked safely away in the Protectorate's hidden fortress. The others, the Margrave thought, seemed to be awfully eager to restore normalcy, nattering away as if nothing had happened. He had to give them some credit for putting forth genuine behavior after the scene at Little Owl. Nobody in their right mind would want to make nice in a situation like this, with tensions so high and the air anything but clear. The Margrave observed them as best he can, since his normal nature that Collin expected, antisocial and withdrawn, demanded no effort. How calculated, rather than true, was that smile? That laugh? Could the Margrave learn from their deceit of Collin to better understand when he himself was deceived? Their conversation came to a boiling point as Alessa came up with a bonding activity straightaway. No wasting time, the Margrave noted with a dry smile. Like a funeral the day after the death. Or marriage the day after engagement. No costumes, huh? In his case that condition came quite easily. He took a deep breath through his nose, then said, “Whatever you want.” How funny that his usual practice of not putting on airs of being a pleasant person meant so much less bother in a situation like this.

For a moment Evelyn's suggestion flabbergasted him, since her manner of speech demanded response and he had hoped to coast through this charade, but he worked together a response that fit his character. ”Huh? A goody two-shoes saying we should abandon our noble pursuits and skive off to the countryside? Who are you, and what've you done with Evelyn?” He gave a chuckle, positioning his head in a dramatic manner. ”That's something more suited for the likes of me, the Margrave. Bringing valiant heroes of the light to my level...what whisperer in darkness could decline? I'm all for it.”

The Wards had begun their clever plan to trap Collin and his contact with a few simple and happy words. Gather together for a bonding exercise, isolated in the mountains. Better yet, do so today by playing hooky! It was a delicious piece of bait, dangled ever so tantalizingly right in front of the traitor's nose. If Collin was indeed lying the whole time, if he never had any problems with his power and had been using it to gather covert information this whole time, he'd have to act on this. It was too tempting not to. At least that's what Decoy thought, sitting in her chair, eyes glued to the hidden cameras planted all around Collin's room. She had double checked the power nullifier and saw that it was indeed switched off, more convinced than ever that wiring Ira's technology into her system was the right decision.

As the Wards' conversation began, Collin didn't seem to react much. He simply sat on his bed, playing on a video game console that had been supplied to keep him entertained. It wasn't until Alessa laid out that they would be in the mountains, away from anybody else and without equipment, that the young boy showed any reaction. He perked up, his ears twitching. Yes. Take the bait. I'm monitoring you. Take it... He paused his game, setting the controller aside, then held still as if concentrating. This was something he had done many times in the field or in the office when he heard something that he wanted to focus on, to isolate. He had to be concentrating on the Wards now, or this was one Hell of a coincidence.

Kendall threw in her approval, but had little else to offer. Collin made no reaction on her screen. Then Evelyn spoke up, adding in that they should play hooky and go today. No sooner had the words parted from the girl's lips did Collin's own raise in a smile. That was the nail in the coffin, as far as Decoy was concerned. There was no way he couldn't act on this kind of tantalizing information. If the PRT thought the Wards were participating in school, told nobody of their whereabouts, and isolated themselves from the public eye with no equipment, there could not possibly be a better opportunity for the Community to attack them. Then Elliott spoke up and Collin frowned a moment. The tinker zoomed in on his face, particularly his lips, as he was saying something out loud.

"Why would Elliott be so agreeable to spending time with them if he didn't have to? That's not the Elliott I know." That's what she interpreted from his lip movements. Dammit, the kids were overselling it and now he was suspicious! Not good not good not good. Her fingers twitched incessantly, and she began to chew on her hair out of nervousness. Was he not going to take the bait?

"I have urgent information." Immediately her nerves calmed and Decoy focused on his lips again. The sensors in the room indicated no sound was being made, which could only mean one thing: He was talking to his contact, implanting the speech directly into their head. Subarashī.

"But use caution, I have my doubts as to the authenticity. The Wards are discussing a group bonding activity, a hike through Red Canyon Park, today during school hours. No costumes, no equipment. The perfect time to bring them to Father to be adopted. Elliott seems to be on board, which is concerning to me." Yes! He took the bait! His doubts didn't matter one iota, no amount of caution could save them now! Decoy fixated on her second camera feed, zeroing in on her second suspect. The man she had believed to be a Community operative for the entire time she had been placed in Denver. Her suspicions were confirmed as her expert lip reading told her everything the man had to say.

"Understood. I'll approach them, then test the waters by saying that Decoy was listening in and sent me to be the responsible adult, and then I'll offer to take them myself. That sort of irresponsible behavior wouldn't be out of character for me." Decoy grit her teeth. What a horrid, reprehensible man. She never trusted him, not for one single solitary picosecond from the moment she met him. But of course, keep your enemies closer... Now she had all the proof she needed, but it wasn't time to send the signal yet. They had to end the conversation first, or the second mole would get suspicious if Collin simply stopped talking out of nowhere.

"Use best judgment on this one. Are you sure you can take them all by yourself? You know what's happening today. There won't be any backup and I can't leave my post." Peculiar. Something happening today? No backup? Were the Community planning on some big move? This could be troublesome.

"You've got the most seniority of all the kids here, and I trained you. I know what they can do. It'll be a snap." Yeah, we'll see how much of a snap it'll be when every PRT trooper in the building converges on your location, asshole.

"Acknowledged. Just try not to fuck up."

"Language, Collin."

"Whatever. I told you what you need to know. I'm out."

There it was. The opportunity that Decoy was waiting for. In a flash her right index finger pressed a holographic button to her side, sending out a single message that had been queued up in advance, a message that would be sent to all of the Wards' holographic communicators without any sound or vibration. Do it.

Chatterbox's plan was going swimmingly. Better than could be anticipated, really. It had seemed that with so many people in an utter panic that their mental fortitude had been somewhat diminished and thus the effect was stronger. Or perhaps the cumulative effects of several thralls acted on a higher curve than simply being stacked? Something to file away for later, but for right now it was merely important to note that the crowd was quickly swayed to his specifications, not just in concourse A where he was, but in all the concourses. If the various text reports he were receiving were to be believed, at least. It was difficult to tell with his thinker-aspect constantly drifting in and out, running haywire. Nonetheless what he could see with his own eyes backed up the data he was being fed: a massive herd of sheep, and they were his flock.

Thunderbolt and Whimsy were ready to go. The combination of Thunderbolt's absolutely jacked body with Whimsy's power meant that they'd be able to charge in a straight line to get to concourse B, saving several minutes of travel. In the process they wound up grabbing Chatterbox as well, the real Chatterbox, for the trip. His weight would naturally slow Thunderbolt's charge down, but only by so much. Without having to worry about any sort of obstacles they would be able to make the transition in about a minute.

Meanwhile, Alloy emerged from the bathroom, costume beneath clothing, to see that the area had changed quite a bit since she had gotten changed. The plane crash was back, corpses and all, oh wait it just vanished again but the corpses remained. What the hell was going on?! At least the crowd was behaving much more orderly. Without the crazed panic it was easier to observe what was going on and that's when her eyes locked onto a most interesting and unfamiliar figure. Clad in a green coat with a matching hat, but wearing a concealing metal suit beneath, this figure walked among the crowd as a silent observer. They seemed to glitch out before her very eyes, then vanished utterly but only for a few seconds. They reappeared again a moment later, about ten feet ahead of where Alloy initially spotted them.

Evelyn Chambers – Tulpa

Tilting her head, and then smiling as Elliot played along, being his usual theatrical self, Evelyn controlled her expression letting the smile linger as she received a message from Decoy. A cold steel flashed through her eyes and she focused.

With a dangerous swiftness a silver light flashed through the building as a network of strings. It scanned everything and everyone she'd need before honing in on the ceiling of Collin's room. Condensing, the silver shadow became a silhouette, taking aspects from a variety of things, predominantly air and stone. At such short notice it would be less refined than what she might accomplish with more focus—and practice—but it was sufficient.

The projection manifested, but there was nothing for Collin to see. In its first action it soundlessly activated the nullification field. In its second it moved through the room, making only the sound of a gentle breeze as it made to encircle its largely etheral body around Collin. Once in place it would solidify, its weight manifesting and hopefully holding the traitor in place. Fighting it would be like trying to fight the elements themselves.

If Collin looked up the only visible part of the tulpa would reveal itself in the form of two jet black pits, ringed with a faint blue glow.

The Wraith, Evelyn thought, her smile warping slightly.

'Null field active. Target should be restrained,' she sent via text. Her expressions returned as she did her best to pay full attention to the conversation.

Metanoia’s eyes widened as she watched the cape scale the building. In the precious few seconds she had before the cape reached her, she mentally revised her evaluation of the cape and retreated from the edge of the rooftop. Not only was the enemy cape fast and strong, but she was also dextrous and nimble. And...where was she? Metanoia had lost sight of her because she’d retreated from the rooftop to avoid being thrown off, but at the previous cape’s climbing speed she should have been here alre—

Metanoia began backpedaling as fast as possible, but she wasn’t fast enough simply due to the inertia of her few hundreds pounds of armor. The cape struck with a thunderclap of sound, her fist shattering the bone shield effortlessly and slamming into Metanoia’s midsection. The thicker armor underneath held firm, though, and Metanoia immediately shifted her growth toward fixing the slight bruise underneath her armor and fixing the shield.

Then the enemy cape grabbed the ragged bone edge of the shield and pulled. Metanoia found herself thrown forward, her spiked boots having been angled to resist something pushing her and not pulling her. Note to self, consider adjusting spike weave.

A large chunk of the shield on Metanoia’s arm will snap off, leaving the villain holding a large, ragged, flat plate of bone with a few spikes dotting the surface. Metanoia will regain her footing as quickly as possible and immediately sprout two flat, very thin blades about two feet long from her knuckles in less than a second, defensively holding them out in front of herself to keep the enemy cape at a distance. The way that the sword grows will look organic, like tiny white roots growing and branching and splitting at their ends until the mass solidifies into an ivory sheet. She’ll then shift part of her growth toward thickening the base of the swords, so that if the blades snap off she’ll have a thicker base to regrow them from, and use the other part of her growth toward growing more densely-packed fast-twitch muscle and thicker tendons underneath her armor to increase the explosive strength and speed of her movements.

Lillian glanced at the others as the order came in and Ev sprang into action, a tight look passing over Lillian's face as the trap closed. This was it.

She continued to make pleasant small talk until her phone vibrated. She nodded, slipping it back into her pocket as she moved. It was time. She remained quiet as she set off in front of the others, her enhanced senses would give them a heads up in case anything was wrong, as she clenched her fist.

The Community would pay for this. For doing this to her heroes she'd looked up to all her life. They needed to be taken down once and for all.

Jason

As Jason, Chatterbox, and Whimsy arrived in the concourse with Alloy, he shook his head. Had the threat just teleported? It looked like he'd glitched forward almost. At least Jason assumed it was a he.

"Should I punch him?" he asked with a strained chuckle. This guy looked more like a kid, and damnit he was tired of fighting kids...
