Epilepsy, jut like narcolepsy or other disabilites that don't affect a person's ability to think or behave are good.

Name: Izumo Saitou (Prefers 'Izzi' as a nickname)
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Dubious
Age: 17

Personality: Very laid back and easy going. He's patient, easy to convince, and honestly not very bright. He can occasionally be stubborn if something he's dead-set in believing is questioned, but most of the time, he'll accept whatever a person says as the truth. Because no one would lie to him, right?

Skills: He's very artistic. Izzi loves to paint, doodle, draw, ect.

Appearance: He's pretty tall, standing at 6'3". His hair is a constant mess. Izzi is constantly underweight due to one of his medications.

Other: He loves apple juice.
Him and Orren are best buddies.

History: Izzi was a foster child. His original mother put him up for adoption soon after he was born, which was probably for the best. His birth mother had no interest in having children, and took little caution while she was pregnant. She still had the occasional drink, smoked, didn't take pre-natal vitamins, and most other no-nos.

Izzi was adopted at age 9 by a couple who couldn't have children of their own. They were loving parents, but their teachings couldn't break all of the bad habits he'd already learned. Izzi was messy, unconcerned with his appearance, and irresponsible. Scolding him just went in one ear and out the other. He had poor grades in school due to constantly falling asleep in class, and by the time he reached high school, his peers could easily pressure him into doing things he shouldn't.

Izzi had his first seizure after he snuck out with friends to drink. The alcohol brought it on, causing him to collapse and convulse. His friends, afraid of getting in trouble, ran off and left him there. Izzi was later found by a good citizen and brought home. He was diagnosed with epilepsy and, later on, hypersomia. His parents were concerned, and sent him to the school with hopes that he'd find better friends and people to take care of him.

Hopefully this works out for this. If anything needs changing just let me know.

Name: Takashi Midiara

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Age: 18

Appearance:

Personality: Constantly comes off as being very disinterested in most things, but in truth it is that he has simply grown tired due to his disease. He is very apathetic towards a lot of things, but still remains truly loyal to those he has grown close to during his time at the academy. Tends to try and brighten other peoples' moods as best he can and is not afraid to put himself out into the public eye if that is what the situation calls for.

Skills: In terms of his skills, Takashi is quite smart in the ways of his classes, being a constant name on the highest score marks in the academy year in and year out. He also has found enough free time to himself to become quite adept at Tarot cards, giving out fortunes to many people that dare see what fate may have in store for them. Usually is very aware of the actions other students of his class, so his interpretations of the meanings of the cards is so spot on at times people claim him to be a wizard, a claim that he has laughed off repeatedly. Sadly due to his illness he has no real ability to stay physically active and mostly resides himself in his room after his classes. He can go out every once and a while, but he has to prepare himself accordingly otherwise he may just collapse and not be able to carry himself. Takashi hates to be a burden so he often will end up turning down an out of the blue invite to go and to somewhere.

Bio: Being raised in a quiet suburb, Takashi was constantly watching other children, his brother included play games outside in the sun and on the freshly cut grass. His parents never let him leave the house on his own and were constantly taking him to doctor's visits as a child. Early on, Takashi was diagnosed with Becker's muscular dystrophy, a disease that ate away at his muscles every day he breathed. He had to hear each day how the disease was progressing, slowly one day and suddenly a striking development the next. Because of this, Takashi was never able to truly experience what it was like to be a child and eventually developed a view on the world as being very boring and dramatic, due to his parent's constant worrying.

By age 14, Takashi had practically become a shut in inside his own home. His legs were worthless, being stuck in a wheel chair since age nine. His chest was in constant pain due to the disease, a symptom that was to develop. Another lucky draw he supposed. Worst yet, his own blood had seemingly distanced himself away due to fear. Perhaps it was unfounded fear of contracting the disease. Takashi assumed it was fear of being connected to something you weren't sure was going to survive. Better to not be close that way it wouldn't hurt in the end he thought. Takashi was beginning to see nothing but gray in his world, with no chance of light returning he feared.

At age 16 he was offered a chance to join Yamaku, a school for children with disabilities. His parents urged him to take the chance. Again, he assumed it was to get further away from him. His brother was also in the crowd to push him out the door it seemed. Takashi took the offer and eventually found himself living among so many others who had the same hurt and fear as he did, and it made him feel, disappointingly, at home. Over the years he has gained some strength in his legs back, mainly through the new therapy that the school provides for him. Now out of his wheel chair, he walks around with a cane most of the time. There are days however where the pain is a little too much for him and he ends up in his wheel chair again. It is during these days that students go up to him often and receive their Tarot readings. Due to his lack of mobility, he figured it would be better to have something to do rather than nothing at all and stare out of the window the whole lunch period. He has regained some of his smile back since he came to Yamaku, but that feeling of rejection and fear still haunt the back of his mind.

Other: Tends to spend a good portion of time in the library when he can walk with his cane. It calms him and the walk from his class to the library keeps his strength up. Sometimes will get into arguments just for the sake of it, especially with Makishimu should an opportunity ever arise. He does this mainly because it is funny and Makishimu is able to take a few playful jabs because of his always cheery attitude.

Hope it fits...

Name:Aizawa Mizuki
Gender:Female
Age:17
Sexuality:Heterosexual
Appearnace:

Her long, black hair are usually loose and somewhat disorderly nowadays- with her right hand as it is, styling them is just too much work, and she doesn’t feel much pressure into doing this anyway. She used to put much attention into her physical appearance, always caring for it to be neat and proper, but ever since the accident she learned to let go and now she’s much less strict with herself.

Mizuki is pretty short, even for a Japanese girl. Her slender body build and fairly invisible cleavage didn’t use to be a big deal back when she had friends and popularity-but now, she finds it mostly to her dislike that her body turned out that way. She’d much rather be taller, and more curvy. However, in the end, this is a trivial matter, and she doesn’t let something like this bother her too much.

What she actually hates the most is the fact that the right side of her face is paralyzed and can’t move on it own. This means that making facial expressions is somewhat hard, and even the most sincere smile looks often mocking or ironic from the outside. Sometimes it leads to misunderstandings, as it’s often hard for the other side to read what her intended facial expression was supposed to be. Eating and drinking are also pretty difficult, as she has to put extra effort in keeping her mouth shut, and care not to bite her cheek when chewing. However, fortunately, her ability to talk has not been distorted, and her voice is as clear and audible as ever. Still, there isn’t a day she wouldn’t wish for it to be normal and healthy. Out of all her disabilities, even the “loss” of leg does not bother her as much as what happened to her face.

She has a distinct, melodic voice, a fact she used to be very proud of. There was a time when she wanted to be a singer, but after several attempts, found out she has no patience nor talent for this sort of stuff. Still, she literally likes to listen to herself talking, and, especially post-accident, sometimes quietly talks to herself-taking especial care not to be heard, of course.

Disabilities:

Brain damage due to car accident. While her memory and cognitive abilities are intact, her motor functions and eye-hand coordination have been severely impaired. What's worse, part of her spine has been damaged, and several parts of her body are now paralyzed as a result. Perhaps fortunately, most of the damage seems to be accumulated on one side of her body. She can't move or feel her right leg, three of her right hand's fingers are useless and almost entire right side of her face is paralyzed, making it impossible for her to make full facial expressions. However, her sight and hearing are intact, and there is "some hope" for "partial recovery" with time and training.

She's forced to use a crutch-in fact, given her condition the doctors wanted to put her on a wheelchair, but for Mizuki it would be far too much to bear. In fact, in the beginning, she didn't want to use the crutch either-preferring something more stylish, like a crane or something among these lines. However, several attempts at walking with a crane and maintaining reasonable speed while doing so quickly brought her down to earth. In the end, she was forced to come to terms with the fact she needs a specialist medical equipment and afterwards she put extra effort in learning to walk and live with that extra accessory-refusing to let that impair her ability to function like a normal human beign whom she, despite everything, still considers herself.

Her hand has also caused her some problems. Mizuki is right handed-which means, she had to learn to write with left hand, as it was impossible to hold a pencil with only the ring and middle fingers functional. Before the accident she used to like playing video games-which too, became impossible, as she can't even hold a gamepad anymore, much less play PC games with the keyboard. However, not being able to play video games have resurrected her childhood passion for books, and, during her time at Yamaku, she found out she likes spending most of her free time in the library.

Personality&Bio:

Before the accident she was one of the most popular girls at school. Good-looking, good grades, good family as well as her natural charisma and wit quickly made her an object of admiration and jealously among her peers. Guys wanted to date her, girls wanted to hang out with her. However, despite all of that, she always put a firm, invisible barrier between herself and the others. Early in her life, she developed a sense of superiority that only strengthened win time. Mizuki considered herself better then the others and thus, she only made acquaintances-not true friends, admirers-not boyfriends. Because of that, despite being surrounded by people, she sometimes felt lonely and alienated-however, she was alway sable to cast away these negative feelings by reminding herself of her achievements, beauty, and bight prospects for the future. Not even in her darkest nightmares did she suspect she'll end up disabled and surrounded by other disabled people, in some remote school in a middle of nowhere.

However, that's what happened. Pulling herself together after the accident required a lot of work. While physically Mizuki wasn't in a critical condition, the psychological damage was far, far more serious. During the first several weeks after the accident she refused to eat, leave bed, or even look in the mirror. She put no effort in the rehabilitation and the doctor's prognosis for recovery were grim. However, with time, she came to terms with her new condition and, slowly but steadily, learned to live with her new handicaps. Of course, returning to school was a huge no. She could never stand showing herself in her new state to her former friends, fans and enemies. And enemies she had a plenty-social misfits, disabled students, ugly students and all the other outcasts whom she often enjoyed bulling whenever there was an occasion. Now that she was disabled herself-and far worse then most of them were-she decided she'd rather killed herself then go back to that school-or any other school, for that matter. However, when her parents presented Mizuki with the possibility of continuing her education at Yamaku, she accepted. Surrounded by other handicapped people, she figured out that she will have far greater chances of adjusting herself and, hopefully, rebuilding something resembling her former life and status-without feeling inferior to anyone.

However, when she arrived at Yamaku, ready to start her school life anew, she found out that not everything is going to be as she imagined. Many of the students enrolled in the school were, according to her, hardly disabled at all. First days at the new school were pain. Her plans to become popular again fell into ruin, as she spends most of the time being bitter and jealous of everyone and anyone who happens to be in a better position then herself. She realized that she has changed. The bitter, spiteful thoughts that accompanied her during the first days at hospital, returned. However, rather then feeling hopeless and hating herself, Mizuki hated everyone around her. No longer was she a talkative person she used to be. Most of her attempts at communication or making friends failed-not that she tried much, either. The disabled ones were disabled and pathetic, the "healthy" ones were lucky and smug, and the teachers were either too cold and disregarding or, even worse, too caring and compassionate(which was much, much harmful to her sense of pride and self-worth). She found herself misanthropic and unwilling to bond with others. Most of the time she spends in th library, as she found a new love for books during her stay in the hospital, and she tends to avoid larger groups of people.

That being said, she is by no means a shy person. Mizuki can talk, and she still has some of her wit and charisma of before-it's just that she doesn't feel the need to utilize them. She absolutely despises shy. introverted people, and often, she likes to imagine bulling or making fun of some of her less boldly-mannered peers, just like she used to occasionally do in the past. However, given her new situation, that is hardly possible, and so, she has to satisfy herself with empty fantasies while cursing her fate and the world around her.

Skills:

She used to be a pretty good gamer, but unfortunately, the new state of her right hand prevents pursuing this sort of hobbies. However, she started reading-from serious works of literature and science, to light hearted romances and flashy light novels and manga. In the beginning, reading was painful. Inexperienced with literature, she didn't know whether she should read fast, or think deeply about every paragraph. However, with time she found her own pace, and now, "literary pursuits" play important role in her life. That being said, she doesn't like discussing these things with other people, and still feels a little embarrassed when someone sees her with a book or a manga magazine-it reminds her of the nerdy otaku at her former school, whom she used to considered losers, and, frankly speaking, to whom she still thinks herself better.

Other than that, she doesn't have any outstanding skills or abilities. Most of her life spent pursuing trivial, though pleasant things, and she didn't show any special talents anyway. Thanks to the diligent effort she used to put into schoolwork and high-level of education provided by the prestigious schools her wealthy family has formerly enrolled her in, she has a strong knowledge of various academic subjects and, having learned both English and German for several years, is almost fluent in both of these languages. However, none of these accomplishments seem to matter to Mizuki nowadays. She found out that she has lost most of her pre-accident drive for studying. Probably, it was something she did to keep a certain image of herself, rather then for it's own sake. Ever since the beginning of her education at Yamaku, she hardly put any effort at all into independent study, and most of the time she doesn't even pay attention during the classes. Her grades can no longer be called "good", although the aren't terrible, either. Not that she'd care, either way.

I think I was in something like this on the old site

Name: Mawaru Sayuri
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Straight
Age: 17
Disability: Spinocerebellar Ataxia

Appearance:

Personality: Sayuri is a kind girl who is always quick with a smile, however her good-cheer, while mostly genuine, can sometimes be a shield between herself and unpleasant situations. She tends to force optimism rather than confront reality.

Skills: High intelligence, musical aptitude, excellent singer

Bio: Sayuri was born into a family of musical prodigies. Her father was a talented violinist while her mother was known nation-wide as a master concert pianist. Natural she and her siblings shared their parent's passion for music and even shared their talent. Sayuri was drawn to the piano and, under her mother's proud tutelage, blossomed. At the age of seven she had already won awards for her playing and it was said that she had the potential to surpass even her mother. As Sayuri entered her early teens, however, things began to go wrong. She began to suffer slight losses in motor control, namely in her legs. These quickly spread to her arms and hands as well and affected her ability to play the piano. She was taken to several doctors and was finally diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Ataxia, a degenerative disease that would destroy her ability to move her muscles, further disrupt her motor-control and finally damage her organs. Eventually she would die as her organs shut down, and her dream of playing the piano was over as well. Whenever she tried, her weakening fingers would stumble over the keys that she could once make sing. She decided that she would never again touch another piano. As her condition worsened she was eventually bound to a wheelchair, this coincided with her graduation from middle school, and so her family had her enrolled in Yamaku, where she has been since.

I'm noticing a lot of tragic stories that led disabilities here. This could be one of the most depressing classes I have ever seen. Where's the simple ones like Scoliosis or deafness? Come on guys you're going to make me cry before we even start here. XD

Everyone likes to be the one with the interesting backstory. At least my character's disability is somewhat minor so he can be one of the less depressing ones. :P

I just realised Takashi and Sayuri have similar disabilities. Though Takashi's is muscular while Sayuri's is centered around motor-function. I just thought that was an interesting coincidence.

Yeah I noticed that as well. Like you said, mine mostly focuses on muscular degeneration and has also affected his heart slightly. Poor Sayuri has got it rough though. Oof.
