@KoL: She doesn't believe Mordred's trying to kick off a fight, more that it looks like she is and she's trying to do what she can to make sure that nothing actually happens.
Hah, I don't think it's that Secret of Pedigree applies to Lancelot because of the logic bomb of the NP that hides her identity being the only thing that anyone ever saw her by. Just going by his GO line of dialogue where he doesn't believe it's Mordred at first, presumably because out of armour... xD
Now that I think about it, I guess so. Nevertheless, pulling out Clarent should be enough for Lancelot to know who he's talking to, even if that sword don't exactly belong to her.
And while waiting for someone to pick up Lupin, whose master will remain nebulous until he gets one, here's a Caster.
Name: Montezuma II
Class: Caster
Appearance: Beneath the mask, his goatee makes him look sort of like a dark-skinned Freddy Mercury. He dresses appropriately for the look as well.
Personality: Montezuma can be quite a melancholy figure. He believes that his propensity for curses is what lead the Spanish conquistadors to Mexico, and caused the collapse of the Aztecs. He still views Central America as his domain, but isn't sure about how to go helping it recover from the last few centuries of turmoil. For now, he's settled for contemplation, training, and teaching the modern world about Aztec culture. He actually teaches cooking and martial arts classes in the city.
Stats:
Strength: B+
Endurance: C+
Agility: C
Mana: A
Luck: E
Noble Phantasm: A++
Class Skills: Territory Creation (B): Montezuma creates a Workshop, where he can work more powerful curses.
Personal Skills: -Charisma (B)- Montezuma was the king of the Aztecs, and even deified after his death by native peoples. Some say he will one day return to lead the descendants of the Aztecs. -Lucha Libre (A)- A martial style focusing on agility, grappling, and striking. -Divine Protection of the Jaguar (B) -Magecraft (Curses) (A)- Montezuma is the caster of the longest-lasting, widest-spread curse of all time- known simply as "Montezuma's Revenge." His magecraft focuses largely on such curses, working to offset his foes so he and his allies can press the advantage.
Noble Phantasm(s):
Name: El Dorado, The Golden Empire
Rank: A++
Type: Fortress/Anti-Fortress
Appearance: The Golden Man leaps to its place atop the temple in the City of Gold, forming a tremendous head. The city begins to shift, and eventually, stands. It becomes a towering golden giant, at least a half mile tall. Its body shows obvious cues from the golden city, from verdant parks on its legs to dwellings on its chest and ball courts on its arms. Strange pillars stick up out of certain parts, and its eyes glow with the light of the sun.
Effects: Though Caster is loath to use it, The Golden Empire is a potent symbol. This towering golden creature is the culmination of everything the Aztecs were- the magnificent and mysterious empire represented by The Golden City, the noble people represented by The Golden Man, the spiritual nature represented by The Kingdom of the Sun, and the martial skill and order of law represented by Caster. It has the equivalent of A+++ Rank Strength and Endurance, but can only function with The Golden Man in place and under direct sunlight.
Name: El Dorado, The Golden Man
Rank: B+
Type: Anti-Unit
Appearance: A ten-foot-tall golden golem, carved in the style of an Aztec Jaguar Warrior. On its back is carved an upside-down mask of an Eagle Warrior.
Effects: The truth of El Dorado is far less extravagant than most of humaity believes. The Golden Man is a ten foot tall golem made of solid gold, with tremendous strength and surprising agility for its size. It cannot be exhausted and does not drain Caster's mana, for it is powered by a magically created artificial sun. Originally intended as a protector for the Aztecs, it went dormant when Quetzlcoatl left them.
Name: El Dorado, The City of Gold
Rank: B+
Type: Anti-Unit
Appearance: A sprawling metropolis of gold. The city is built in accordance with Aztec sensibilities, with a temple at the center, and the rest of the city built outwards from there. Square pyramids and squat towers dot the landscape.
Effects: El Dorado is the famous capital city of the Aztec empire. A gleaming golden vision of utopia, this shining city is a testament to their wealth and power. Many Spanish explorers would die seeking the crown jewel of the Aztec Empire.
But this golden capital never existed. It was a fabrication, a falsehood created by the Aztec civilization. Nevertheless, because the will of humanity believes it is so, Caster possesses the capability of manifesting this resplendent city as a symbol of the empire that ruled Central America for over a thousand years. This Phantasm manifests in chunks as part of Kingdom of the Sun, and as portions of Caster's territory creation.
Name: Ēxcān Tlahtōlōyān: The Kingdom of the Sun
Rank: EX (weird to quantify)
Type: Culture
Appearance: When firing lasers, pyramids, spires, and statues pop out of portals which Caster opens all across the battlefield. Often, massive golden fists pop out of the portals as well for close range attacks.
Effects: The Kingdom of the Sun represents the Aztec culture as a whole- their appreciation of sports and martial prowess, their spiritual leanings, their history. Regardless of class, Montezuma always manifests this skill. He maintains high physical parameters for his class and incredible skill with the weapons of his people (the macahautl, club, bow, spear, and dart). His skill in the traditional wrestling style that would later provide the foundations of Lucha Libre is unmatched. As a Caster, he is even capable of calling upon the sun that formed the foundation of their mythology to smite his foes, firing beams of concentrated solar energy.
Alignment: Lawful Good
Changes: There are a number of depictions of Montezuma. His physical appearance is based specifically on the portrayal in An Illustrated History of the New World.
Made a small alteration on my post. Hye couldn't possibly know who Lancelot is. Mordred summoned her sword so it's another story.
Having only the information that 'Mordred harbors animosity towards servant X' isn't enough to narrow the options straight to Lancelot. It was my mistake. Already fixed.
Well, Mordred called him Knight of the Looks, which is an obvious play with Knight of the Lake and there's only one person who could ever own that title. I don't think that it would be out of character for anyone to understand that she is talking about Lancelot.
Unless, of course, you're completely clueless about Arthurian lore and, in the Nasuverse, no one is, considering how important/idolized those people are.
Of the Fey Rank D Queen Mab is famously attributed as being the Queen of the Fey. As such she is granted a significant boost to her Presence Concealment and Agility. This skill is the key ingredient to her identity as a Servant as well and is responsible for her rather tiny, fairy-like stature. Her physical body akin to glass, pretty yet fragile. Should she be hit by any sort of metal object, she will shatter.
Metaphysical Body Rank C The power of belief gave Mab life, made her what she is, and now has granted her the ability to be summoned. Given Mab was a metaphysical being born of humanity’s belief before she became a Servant-metaphysical beings in their own right- she leans more toward this by being able to attack from her spirit form indefinitely and grants her another boost to Presence Concealment, stacking with her Of the Fey skill. The double-edged sword aspect of this skill makes her devastatingly fragile to the thoughts of humans; those that truly don’t believe in the metaphysical are utterly unaffected by her, and she can’t assume a physical form around them, crippling her as she must assume it to have access to her Dreamweaver skill.
Dreamweaver Rank A+ Mab is often associated with dreams and more commonly nightmares. Mab can enter the dreams of others and even manipulate them into horrific nightmares, or joyous fantasies. She physically enters the dreams of others and she can exit a dream in another location so long as she does so from the dream of another person. Mab can only enter the dreams of anyone in the middle of REM sleep. Mab can drain people of their mana when in their dreams and it will be her prerogative to sneak into the dreams of others whenever possible. Mab can even stitch the dreams of others together, linking dreamscapes together. This skill is available to her so long as her glass blades are undamaged. Once all have been destroyed, she loses this skill.
A Midsummer’s Dream Rank B Mab famously locked people that wandered into the forests of her people into fantasies and dreams’ making them nothing more than babes in the woods in the dark of night. Mab emits an aura in her very close vicinity that lulls people into a comfortable haze, then to a deep slumber if around her long enough. She can control when she gives off this aura. Sadly it doesn’t work on her fellow Servants as they do not, can not dream as mortals do. This skill’s strength waxes and wanes with the phases of the moon (the time it takes for her to put portals to sleep in her presence depends how full the moon is) and is at its strongest in the New Moon cycle and is only active at night while she is in spirit form.
Noble Phantasms
Twisted Reality, Wicked Fate Rank A+ Type: Anti-Team Range: N/A Number of Targets: 2 Mab embodies everything wicked and twisted nature of the fey folk and this cruel weapon reflects her nature. Outside of dreams these razors are nothing more than a stylized pair of complementing blades each three times her body height in length. Inside the dreamscape of a Master she attacks their dreamself with these terrible razors, the damage is sustained by the Master’s dreamself is then transferred to the Servant through the very link they share. Once done the Master will be booted out of the dreamscape and awakened, believing it all to be some horrible nightmare. Mab activates the NP hidden in these twin blades by putting them together, forming a pair of scissors, she must have both to wield her one NP, so if one is destroyed, she cannot wield it.
Appearance: Mab will appear for the Grail War as three foot tall, child-like being with moth-like wings and a simple black dress. That being said she is no loli, she has human ish features but her arms are overlong, her eyes have no pupils, and her face has enough feral characteristics to fall right into the down right creepy category. Mab was never meant to be a cute little lady, she spent her existence terrifying humanity and her uncanny appearance reflects this legacy.
Personality: Mab is gleefully mischievous with a deep desire to torment and scare anything with a pulse in her direct line of sight. This is a Servant who will take to her new existence with joyous exuberance. That being said she is utterly terrified to return to nonexistence and will certainly fight to maintain it.
Backstory: Mab was given birth by the beliefs and superstitions of humanity itself like her kind before her and is a twisted reflection of Titania. She was utterly metaphysical, a precursor to the concept of Servants, and tormented the humans that ultimately created her for her own amusement. She clashed time and again with Titania, leading an army of twisted fey created as she was from the darkest nightmares of humanity. Most noteably she haunted the dreams of a young William Shakespeare to spite Titania, who’d taken a liking to the writer. She gave him terrible nightmares, deprived him of sleep, and nearly brought him to ruin; she would have a permanent effect on him as he would develop an obsession with tragedy. She existed for many centuries but eventually met her end as more and more people left behind the superstitions of the past, Mab faded starved the moment a human, the first she’d seen in quite some time, tried to offer her a bit of food like she was some rabbit, or child and swore revenge on humanity. She felt scared for the first time however as she faded from existence.
Mab’s story was written down in the Throne of Heroes due to her crossing several heroes in history and her connection to Titania, who earned her own spot inscribed on the Throne.
Weaknesses: Mab is even weaker against other Servants more than the others of her class, her weapons are literal glass (though a super hardened, deadly sharp glass) that would easily shatter if she crossed weapons with another Servant, is easily killed by a kitchen knife.
So to begin with Servants are almost always summoned in a very human state. In fact, in any normal case they have to be at least somewhat human(outliers in FGO are exceptions caused by weird circumstances). You can't summon a fairy. If you could, they'd need to be something along the lines of the Gorgon Sisters, where they were born from humanity in spite of technically being divine, therefore are "human gods" so to speak.
I honestly don't think Queen Mab is an inherently poor idea, but she'd end up being something more humanlike just by dint of a) being something manifested from human consciousness and b)being summoned as a Servant.
She could still have alien morals(I'm not opposed to someone who just loves to screw with people and doesn't get why it's wrong running around as long as they're not like, lolrandumbmurder or something) but she'd ultimately look more human and have a more human-like nature to her just by dint of actually being something that can be summoned.
If she is created by humanity "metaphysical body" is completely unnecessary as the Gorgons don't have it.
@DocRock: Innocent Monster is a rare case of misconceptions or beliefs influencing a person who exists independently of them. Someone like the Gorgons, born from humanity's wishes and thoughts, most likely wouldn't have it.
Hm, reverting it back then. If it's common knowledge.
Edit: caps lock LOL. Didn't mean to put an emphasis on "if"
It's probably even more than common knowledge to say the truth. There are a few things that are constant among all the versions of the Fate Franchise, and one of them is the fact that the KotR are consistently put on a very hard to reach pedestal to the point that they are many times considered to be vastly superior Servants than even much older Heroic Spirits from the Age of the Gods. And then, there's the fact that just about every Servant that they come across at least acknowledges who they are, if not outright show respect and admiration.
Now that I think about it, nothing shows that fact better than the fact that I don't think that there's a single official entry in the Franchise that doesn't have at least one of the KotR, or someone that's a stand in for them (in that case of Strange Fake).
They really are the cream of the crop when it comes to Servants.
And that's not even taking King Arthur into account since Artoria is on a whole other level when it comes to relevance and fame.
PS: Now that I think about it, this is a good chance for Mordred to show her character development from Apocrypha (more than she's already). It'll probably be interesting to see Lancelot's reaction to how the Knight of Treachery has changed.
Though, the same can be said of Mordred's reaction to Lancelot depending on the circumstances.
