***This is not a complete list. I am working with some people (you know who you are) so it is possible that our roster will grow before the IC goes up.
Three out of Breck's four limbs have been replaced with his own advanced prosthesis, all of which sport an aesthetically attractive silver hue with an electric blue trim (See legs for color scheme). Breckenridge stands at an even 6'0, and with a bit of a dadbod weighs in at around 195lbs. He has a gentle but confidant posture, his back straight and shoulders broad, but he does well not to over-posturize, and takes care not to puff his chest or raise his chin.
His attire and aesthetic match that of a lumberjack, and he can be seen exclusively wearing flannels of reds and browns tucked into simple blue jeans. He's also known to sport simple work boots, and a pair of reddened leather suspenders. He purposefully keeps the sleeves of his flannel rolled up at all times, openly displaying his prosthetic right arm.
Personality: In short, Breckenridge is one of the kindest, most generous men you're ever likely to meet. He is deeply philanthropic, and strives to be fair and encouraging in everything he does. Unlike some, he does not do good things for the feelings that accumulate from positive attention, but rather because he believes himself duty-bound to do the most good he can for this world. He is also incredibly intelligent, but rather than cold and calculating or cruel and cunning, he is wise and warm. He is incredibly patient, and believes deeply that every person alive has good in them, and simply need the motivation to act upon it.
He will trust you, regardless of if you've given him reason not to. He will help you, even if you don't ask for it. He will let you take advantage of him, even if he knows your intents.
Biography: Breck was born and raised in a small town just south of the Canadian Border in Washington State to his single mother Brooklyn. His father had allegedly died in the war, but he had come to believe that was simply the story of a mother trying to protect her son from the abandonment she felt. His mother had gotten pregnant in her senior year of high school, and unable to balance pursuing a degree, affording basic necessities, and raising a child, he and his mother moved in with his grandparents. Originally, the plan was that his mother would get her degree and begin a career, and they would move out to their own home. However, that plan changed when Brooklyn's mother, Lydia, passed away shortly after Brook had graduated with her Nursing degree. From then on, Brooklyn and Breckenridge decided to continue living at home with Brook's father, Alan. Alan was a retired electrical engineer, and as he was both Breck's primary caretaker and only paternal figure, he cultivated a fascination and love for technology and engineering in Breck, which would only grow alongside his interest in human anatomy as he aged.
In regards to his adolescent years, Breckenridge excelled far beyond his peers in every subject, particularly those regarding math and science. Socially however, he fell behind his peers. He was not anti-social, nor disliked, he simply found it difficult to create deep, meaningful relationships with the people around him. Every attempt was met with failure, as he was surrounded by an ever pervasive feeling that each person he befriended was lacking something intrinsically, that there was a key component they were missing that prevented him from becoming attached. This incomprehensible sensation grew and manifested itself in the form of isolation and distance, Breckenridge would actively avoid engaging with his peers in any capacity, as he believed that attempting to befriend them would only be a disservice, as any time either party invested in each other would be null in the face of this sense of lacking. This social isolation resulted in a mild form of depression and Enochlophobia (Fear of Crowds), which he dismisses as "Natural melancholy and mild discomfort in large crowds." He developed a fairly pervasive sense of being an "onlooker" rather than an active participator in social settings, and thus came forth his generous, kind, and caring ideals. He saw enough negativity in the world that he decided it was his responsibility to bring some positivity to the forefront.
Unwilling to pursue relationships, he Instead focused on cultivating his interests and pursuing his hobbies, which involved engineering practical robotics and researching the human anatomy and how electricity could impact it. Upon graduating high school at the ripe age of 14, Breck received a full ride scholarship to Cambridge University and left his home in Washington to attend college in Massachusetts.
After graduating at 20 with a Masters Degree in both Bio-Chemistry and Electrical engineering, Breckenridge moved to Virginia Beach to begin working on an aquatic exo-suit designed to allow naval engineers to preform hull repairs without porting a naval vessel. The project's Research and Development was entirely funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, and Breck was assigned as one of the three engineers for the project, responsible for designing the most efficient possible frame for all necessary tech the device would house. He was granted a two-year timeline along with significant funding for his R&D, and per usual, blew the expectations set on him out of the water. Within a year, he had not only designed a frame; but had completely designed the suit, along with a number of components that did not yet exist. For these components of course he had also designed blueprints and schematics that would prove to be entirely viable under scrutiny from his fellow engineers. Once higher ups saw his work, they made him the head of the project, and allowed him to continue forward with the project.
Six months after he and his team began working on development of the S.H.R.A.M. (Sub-aquatic Hull Repair and Assessment Module), a fatal error was made. The Lithium-Ion battery developed specifically to power the SHRAM had been assembled using cheaper materials than advised by Breck and his team, which resulted in an explosion during routine testing, which was being carried out at the time by Breckenridge himself. The explosion resulted in the emergency amputation of his right arm, and both of his legs, as he had been standing to the left of the SHRAM prototype conducting routine software diagnostics at a desktop computer when the battery blew.
Following the SHRAM accident, Breckenridge was granted a large settlement of 5.5 million USD, after signing a nondisclosure of course. Following his immediate medical treatment, he returned home to Washington State and began undergoing physical therapy. He was provided with state of the art prosthesis for his missing limbs, but their inefficiency and difficulty to use drove him mad. Then, one day, he achieved a sort of clarity, and immediately hid himself away into his garage/work-space.
For a year he holed himself away in that garage, leaving only to use the restroom twice a day, like clockwork. In that garage he worked endlessly, foregoing both food and sleep as long as possible to focus on his work until one day, he emerged.
He emerged walking on two fully functional bionic legs, and with a fully functioning bionic right arm. He had used his settlement as funding, and combined his knowledge of the human body and electrical engineering to create the most advanced prosthesis known to man. The prosthesis were controlled by the existing neural pathways in his body, and could be installed through an automated process that was encoded into the prosthesis's software. That was the day that BLI (Better Living Industries) was created, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of every human alive with affordable and reliable technology.
A year later, BLI was a promising up and comer in the Tech world. Although they had yet to officially do much more than secure several patents for a variety of different (revolutionary) devices, Breck's company had already received enormous investments allowing him to conduct his research peacefully from his home in the isolated mountains of Washington State. Much to the chagrin of his investors, Breckenridge refused to go to market until he was able to manufacture his tech at affordable rates, and constantly worked to make his patents more affordable, without sacrificing the quality that separated his tech from what was already on the market.
Maintaining this balance was proving difficult, Breckenridge found, and a surprise letter from the mail inviting him to meet with other Fragmented individuals seemed like the perfect opportunity to take a step back from the trees, as it was, and finally determine if it was others who had been missing something intrinsically, or if it was him.
Other: ★ -Breckenridge has a notable level of fame despite keeping his public appearances to a minimum. He's an up and comer in the tech market that the world has only just began to pay attention to. Those who keep an eye on the news will know his name, and perhaps even his face.
-Breckenridge has stated that the reason he chooses to openly display both his prosthesis and status as a Fragmented individual is because "The choices I make can influence others in ways that are unimaginable. So, I chose to proudly display my prosthesis; so the veteran seeing me on the news understands that he doesn't need to be ashamed of his. So that the child with degenerative limb diseases doesn't believe something is wrong with her, because she has metal where others have skin. I don't hide who I am, because doing so would suggest that those like me should hide themselves as well. Every person alive deserves to be comfortable in their skin, and proud of who they are."
Here we go! Please note that your character would have been informed in advance that the first night would be a cocktail party, so dress accordingly (or don't, your choice). As always if you have any questions or need any clarification, just ask!
Alright guys, unfortunately I will be closing this one down. I thank you all sincerely for your interest and for your awesome characters, and when I eventually reboot this with more thought and planning, you're all welcome to come join. Good luck with your other RPs, and thanks for considering mine ^_^
