Andromeda Aldrich

Location: Babylon Fortress, Cairo, Egypt
Skills: Alertness

She had seen a lot of strange things in life and in death. Nothing had ever prepared her though for this exact scenario - with James offering to turn into his hog form and carry her on his back. Her pulse was up but given that she was claustrophobic and they were in a tunnel system, that was probably the best case scenario. She was doing her best to monitor her breathing and she had a quizzical look on her face. It wouldn't be immediately clear whether she was amused or insulted by the idea, but... She loved new experiences. His question did cause her to blush slightly as well. "Why the hell not?" she finally said. Things were now lit down here, so that was helping to ease her anxiety as well and she didn't know when she'd ever get a chance like this again.

And at least if it got weird and uncomfortable, she was pretty sure she'd be able to instantly hop off and return to ground. The comments that the others would make about it might wound her pride slightly, but she did have lightning on her side. Peter had a torch going as well, so the situation just seemed to really be improving. She was waiting for the inevitable jump scare, for a Destruere or something to be lurking around one of these corners, or even maybe something as ordinary as just criminals from this time period using these things to smuggle or something.

Sophia Harris

Location: Babylon Fortress, Cairo, Egypt (underground/tunnels)
Skills:

Sophia continued to walk along the dark tunnels as she looked towards Peter when he tried the first time to set the torch on fire, it didn't start yet, until the second time. And then they were finally given light as Sophia saw Peter's hand glowing red a bit. "Anytime." Sophia said as she took the makeshift torch back into her hand as Peter handed it back to her. She wasn't sure why both Gio and Gilbert wanted them to use resources that could be used for something else later on down the line or if they ended up loosing Peter for some reason. Eventually Gilbert managed to light the oil finally giving them light. "Let there be light?" Sophia said jokingly as she could see things a little bit better now despite the weird haze.

Sophia decided to keep the torch just in case something did end up brushing the fire that lit up the tunnels down as she looked around at the others. And then over towards Bart and gave him a slight nudge and smiled towards him, her powers didn't really have to much combat use except for her ice touch but that needed her to actually be touching someone for it to happen. "I got your back, though sound good?" Sophia said towards him as she continued to walk.

James Grady

Location: Tunnels (Cairo, Egypt: October 6th, 1924)
Skills: Peccary Form

At the acceptance of the offer, James gave a slow smile. He didn't get the opportunity to use this form very often, but it did have some amazing advantages to his human physique. It was rather a point of irony that, in life, he was famous for hunting these creatures, and now? Now he had the ability to become a particularly impressive specimen of one. Death certainly had a sense of humor sometimes.

The slow smile began to show a pair of enlarged lower teeth on either side of his mouth, which began to elongate and thicken. His eyes remained more or less human seeming, but the rest of him warped and buckled. Limbs grew shorter and more specialized, bones shifted and thickened to accommodate layers of denser, differently shaped muscle. Clothing seemed to disappear entirely, simultaneously being absorbed into his body while thick, dark grey fur grew back out. Boots and hands became rock hard hooves with the slight but necessary flexibility of horn, and his human voice was lost in the more primitive sounds of a great, wild boar. His tusks lengthened and reinforced to the degree of deadly weapons, and lastly a mane-like collar of thick, white fur covered his neck and stretched down he front of him. He was an impressive specimen of wild boar.

James stopped and shook his thick collar of fur out, leaning to one side so that Andromeda could more easily climb aboard. He slowly, deliberately chuffed twice, followed by a noteworthy sneeze that blasted from his protruding, piggy nostrils with substantial force and sent a shiver down his spine. Ok, now he was good to receive a rider. She had plenty of handholds and, James bet, he could probably still get up some damn respectable speed if she lay forward and held with her knees. Well, they'd figure out the particulars later. Right now, they had someplace to be. When Andromeda was comfortably on board, James took back off at a trot, as not to zoom past the others with his lower center of gravity and ability to run with the power of Pork compelling him.

And if no one else did before he got his voice back, James was going to have to make some goodnatured comment about Andromeda "Riding the Wild Hog". Provided he felt the situation out and didn't think he was in danger of getting electrocuted or swept away by a highly localized El NiĂąo. These things were important.

Gilbert Summers

Location: Tunnels (Cairo, Egypt: October 6th, 1924)
Skills: History, Observation

"Well, certainly there will be enough to go around." stated Gilbert, supporting his fellow Emendator's statements. "It is an Armory. The very nature of it implies that there will be enough for a handful of people and much to spare." Gil gave a moderately contented smile, seeing that the old lighting system in the tunnels still functioned. This was definitely a "don't make them like they used to" moment, and he was still a little marveled at the idea. The ancients knew what they were doing. But to get back to the matter at hand, "My concern is based around the necessity of having to give a crash tutorial on firearms for those who have never had the ability to use them, or have forgotten how since becoming a Paradox. They rather randomly re-acquired abilities to begin with." He shrugged. It really wasn't anyone's fault, persay. Just the way that the dice landed, both literally and figuratively.

He caught the tiny bit of joking from Sophia and gave her a smile. It wasn't the first time something he did brought up a reference from Genesis (the book, not the band), though this probably didn't count as miraculous. Nevertheless, he responded with an almost mirthful, "...and there was light. And I saw the light, and it was good." He shook his head and sighed, "I do regret not meeting the man. We might have had such interesting conversations." He even sounded a bit wistful.

Gilbert did cock an eyebrow at his star pupil's newly acquired method of transportation. Yeah... Looking at it from a mostly objective point of view, it made sense. James could get in more practice with his alternate form as a great, tusked boar, and Andromeda could partly take her mind off of their surroundings, thus making less likely she accidentally discharges lightning or summons a tornado underground. That would be monumentally bad. So if this worked, he might suggest a team up for similar circumstances. Or just because it might strike serious fear in the hearts of evildoers everywhere and/or start a minor religious movement, depending on how effective the combo might be.

After a while, Gil announced, "The good news is that we are halfway there. The bad news, I suppose, is that we are only halfway there. But we are on the right track, I am sure of it."

Faith Masters

Location: New York City (1943)

Faith had thought she mentally prepared her for what to expect in the room. After all, she had lived a chunk of her life fighting for survival against the undead and had visited New York before and faced a creature. Granted, the last time she did not hold it together, but this time she was prepared to. So when she set foot in the office, what awaited her was…

Well quite frankly, it was horrific. It was as if HP Lovecraft had a baby with Stephen King in order to create a vile thing to inflict on the world and give them nightmares. The top part was ok. Handsome even to an extent. It was underneath that churned her stomach. The sheer amount of movement, the voice that called out to her (by name even!), and the distorted faces moving around would put anyone off.

But Faith would not let her fear overtake her. Not like last time. She swallowed, but she did not scream. The more she looked, the more used to it she got (if that could even be a thing). She listened, thankful that it allowed her some time to collect her voice. ”All good things, I hope,” she managed to get out before she shut herself up again. She glanced at Siduri and Dread, eager to get a move on. She debated if sticking around here was actually worth it anymore if it meant facing things like this. But she knew she had to stomach it and deal.

"Ah, good, good." Gio put away his matchbook when Gil managed to get the oils alight and everyone decent visibility. That, along with the directions on the walls meant that they could possibly get armaments before anything else disastrous could happen. He had something of an internal sensible chuckle at the Biblical quotes but otherwise didn't make any further comments.

Not even on James' decision to turn into a boar and give Andromeda a literal piggyback ride. He probably should have mentioned something about not carelessly using one's paradox powers in this uncertain new paradigm they found themselves in. But really, out of anyone here, his would be the least likely to break reality, and even if it did, he couldn't see it breaking reality all that badly.

Other than that, there wasn't much that required direct addressing and all that they had to focus on was walking through these tunnels. Gilbert announced that they were halfway through a short way in, and with the two of them working together, it wasn't too much later before they had arrived beneath the armoury.

"And here we have arrived. Mr. Grady, if you would change back into human form before we make our way in proper. A boar is just too out of place to bring with us into settled, civilized space." Stealing from the military was a stealth mission, and as useful as some of his porcine abilities could be, the drawbacks simply outweighed the potential positives.

Siduri walked over towards Parliament and held out her hand to him, leaning down to lace her fingers with his. His body seemed unable to move from where it was. Though the man was unable to move his body, it didn't keep him from moving things. A chair pulled out from under the table and turned slightly. "I have both good and bad of you Miss Masters, but that is all of us isn't it?" he asked as the chair slid out for Faith. "Please have a seat," he offered. At least he had manners.

"Well as fun as this is, I got shit to do," Dread said before his body dissolved into a darkness and was gone, leaving behind only the faintest hint of sulfur in the air. The door shut as Siduri looked towards Parliament. One couldn't hear anything but from the changing expression on the womans face, they seemed to be having a conversation.

"I feared it was happening. So she's the one?" Parliament asked finally out loud and Siduri nodded. "I see." Siduri let go of the mans hand and stepped back. "I am sure you have many questions but I am afraid there is little time. You are here to find Evelina." It seemed perhaps the two had been talking, since Parliament seemed to know why Faith was there. "I am told you have the ability to shift from sight. A common enough Edge in this world but feeling you in the room, I sense it is different." The organs seemed to take a breath before he continued. "She's lost, you may be able to get to her but I cannot guarantee you could return. Are you willing to take that chance child?" he asked. Siduri just stood there, she was sure that Faith would say yes but she wouldn't speak for the woman.

Mounts James? Well Andromeda has no problem mounting Mount James. And she is keeping her shit together. Which is a good thing, because well, riding a hog, one that isn't on wheels isn't exactly a common thing. It has to be one hell of a sight and in fact Peter thinks it is as his head tilts to the side and he watches the whole thing unfold. "Not something one sees everyday," he mused as he stood there. Though he had to smile, he could see his uncle doing something like this. Riding head long into battle screaming Tally Ho! with a Corporal running behind him screaming Lord Major! Now, that would be quite the sight to see, indeed it would. Rising up, Peter levitated and kept moving with the group now that there was plenty of light on the situation. Chuckling a bit at Sophia's comment.

James, while mounted, okay, this going to be a running joke. James is able to keep his wits about him and not go hog wild right now. Enough infact he will be the first to smell that something is off. Something smells, like a bad fart, no, wait, sulfur. Something is burning low to the ground like sulfur and it is growing stronger in the direction that they are moving. And when they arrive it is beyond strong.

Standing there, below the entrance, there are faint voices. "I am not some common addict." The first voice is very familiar. It's Nancy. O.o Then another voice is heard. "Belladonna?" calls out someone, unknown to the group. "Zerzura?"

The third voice grabs Peters attention. "Vera?!?" he calls out as he looks around and then looks up as the ceiling seems to start fading away and the sky is starting to show through the haze. It was followed by other voices.

"Stone!"

"Yeah, on it, Boss."

"I don't know!"

"Mother fucking! SHRODY!"

Peters head whipped to the other direction as his feet planted on the ground. "Alicia!"

As James shifted into him boar form, bard looked on with a mixture of bemusement and surprise. Andromeda riding him at this moment seemed like a choice that might have negative repercussions. If she had fallen off, she could've gotten hurt, or if there was anybody in the barracks, this would force a confrontation. However, he was not going to try to tell the two of them what was best for them; he'd just be here to watch on, and be ready to act if something went wrong. Trudging along the path, he hoped that them searching for a Destruere was at least actually a step towards them preventing the End Times.

As the voices of the others drifted towards them, he immediately peeked up to the sound of Nancy; the Emendator actually being here was very good news. Them being all together, sans Faith of course, was such an important step. Not being scattered to the winds would mean they could actually present a unified front at whatever was to come. Then, he heard Alicia, a voice of a person he had thought was departed from them. Could this be more weirdness from the Haze? Or somehow a past version of Alicia? He didn't know, but this conflict between what he thought to be true, and what appeared to be stopped him from running up immediately. Instead he stuck close to the group, and continued advancing with them. A hopeful smile spread across his face though, if Alicia was alive, it'd be good to have their friend back.

Sophia gave a slight smile and nod towards Peter at her little comment as she followed the others at least they would be close to the armory now at this point as well. She watched her friend James suddenly shift into a boar, and letting Andromeda mount him though it was kind of weird as well to see. "Yeah something you don't ever see everyday." Sophia said with a slight laugh as she continued and then stopped as she looked around as she could hear some voices. She wasn't sure if she was going crazy or not at all but Sophia was pretty sure that it wasn't going to be a good thing either.

She did recognize two voices though as she looked over at the others for a moment wondering if they heard it was well, until Peter called out a name Vera which she didn't know at all. "I'm guessing we are all hearing the voices?" Sophia asked as she used the torch and looked around and then over to the ceiling raising her eyebrow slightly as she noticed it starting to shift slightly revealing the sky a little bit. She was pretty sure that all of them were underground, and there wasn't any kind of collapsing either as well which was good somewhat anyway.

James Grady

Location: Tunnels (Cairo, Egypt: October 6th, 1924)

Oh, the wonder of piggy senses. Sometimes, it felt like being psychic. Oh sure, James figured that having a porcine sense of smell would be more of a liability than an asset in a subway. Or anywhere near a public restroom. Or near a water treatment plant. Okay, so that wasn't the point. This wasn't the first time that he'd turned into a boar, obviously, but it was the first time that he'd taken on a rider. The combination worked for him, too. Andromeda wasn't so tall as to shift his center of gravity much, and if she leaned forward while she held on, speed could be comfortably reached. James couldn't imagine doing this with someone as large as Gilbert, for instance. He'd be one low bridge away from testing his claims of immortality. It'd be funny, though.

As they made their way down through the corridors, James gave the occasional chuff or snort, though remained silent for long stretches at a time except for the small, regular clacking sounds of his hooves upon the stone beneath them. On the occasions when he did make an audible noise, it was usually preceded with a pause and sniff at the air, a perk of his ears, or a sweeping motion of his snout upon the ground as if detecting something and trying to suss out what it might be. It was probably a good thing, considering the nature of the haze around them and his new, lower eye level thanks to his scrofal physiology.

It was the smell of sulphur that caught his attention first. It was slight, possibly something from the fire, but as they continued it got stronger. By the time they had gotten to where both Emendators agreed was the place, it was almost overwhelming to his porcine senses. It was probably for the best that The Watch insisted that he shift back to his charming and overly handsome (just ask him) human form, considering.

James gave a little shimmy, as he said that he would, before reverting from Wild Boar to Domestic Blackneck. His first act as a human was to give a light cough and say, "Mmm, now Miss Andy? Next time you get to ridin' me, grip with them knees more, k? Way you was grindin' them heels bout had me..." He stopped, taking a glance around with the sudden understanding of one possible translation of his words, be it without context. "Oh, fuck all-a y'all," he whispered, loud enough to be heard by everyone. He wanted to say more, maybe even some form of apology to Andromeda, but his attention was suddenly snapped away by the wafting of voices on the air. He recognized three of them.

He cracked a smile upon hearing Nancy giving someone the business. Another Emendator in their midst would be awesome.

He looked highly confused but suddenly mirthful at the gravelly and unmistakable voice of a serious badass he knew in life. If he was correct, he had a LOT more questions than answers.

And he was purely overjoyed to hear the sound of his good friend and fellow troublemaker, thought lost to them, bitching about SCHRODY. Though there was a smaller puzzle there. He had yet to get a straight answer about that cat. Was he with them? But to hell with the cat - Alicia hadn't been taken up, or whatever the hell they called it. And she was with her father, possibly? Stranger things had happened. Twelve seconds ago he was a boar, for instance.

"Well, hot damn..." he marveled, anxious to see what was going to happen next. One thing he needed to address first, though. Okay, second. The hog riding advice already came first. But second! "Hey um... Anybody else smell sulphur? Like, lots of it, burnin'? Or it that a oinky thang?"

Gilbert Summers

Location: Tunnels (Cairo, Egypt: October 6th, 1924)
Skills: History, Observation

Gilbert generally accepted that this was, indeed, the way the needed to go. He also agreed with his colleague and fellow Emendator that this was also, indeed, where they had to be when he made mention of it. And sure enough, the tunnels all lined up with this fact, from the tiny indicators intrinsic to the tunnels themselves to his own memory of them, compared to his memory of the city of Cairo, above. Emendator GPS, if you will, functioning properly from knowledge of where they started, how long they had traveled, and cues from the tunnels themselves. There was only one problem with the whole situation, but it was massive.

He stopped underneath the entrance, an odd look on his face. Gilbert took in a deep breath, intent on explaining his foreboding feeling when James abruptly turned back into James and addressed Andromeda, and then the rest of the group with an imperative that, if taken followed literally, Gil would be hard pressed to look anyone present in the eye ever again. But he listened. He listened to the voices that manifested suddenly, processing those familiar to him giving a smile at hearing Nancy and Alicia. If all went well, it was possible that they were getting reinforced, though the manner of its arrival had him at a loss. As he had mentioned before, this was new territory for him. It was very rare that he got to say that. Very.

When James mentioned the smell of sulphur, Gilbert immediately stiffened up. He drew his Winchester rifle from his back and looked glanced about his surroundings. "That might be a bigger problem than what concerns me, Mr. Grady, though I will speak mine anyway: We are not under the Qasr El Nil Armory, nor the barracks at all. We are in the right place. The Barracks are not here." This would ordinarily be the time that he made some sort of comment about the situation, saying that it was very curious or fascinating, filling him with a sense of wonder at the natural and/or supernatural world. Not this time, not in the field with new Paradoxes among them, not with the scent of sulphur in the air, and not with the uncertainty of hearing voices of the unfamiliar mixed with voices of the supposed dead. He cast an eye upward, then turned attention above them all with an almost studious look. "And did anyone else notice that the ceiling is disappearing?"

Andromeda Aldrich

Location: Babylon Fortress, Cairo, Egypt
Skills: Alertness

Andromeda was too focused on not freaking out from her claustrophobia and the sense of the walls closing in around her as she was carried on James' back to notice any eyebrow raises at what she was doing. Sure, later she might realize that it probably had a lot of inappropriate connotations, but the bizarreness of it all was helping some to keep her mind off of the small, confined space they were inside of. It wasn't too long of a journey to their destination and she heard some familiar voices - well, one familiar voice. It was Nancy's voice, the missing Emendator. She had to be close by then, right? And then just as suddenly, she heard Alicia - their brief mentor in all things paradoxical.

Once they got to a stop, Andromeda carefully got off of James. Her cheeks burned bright red as she heard what he said - though at least she wasn't freaking out now. "... Got it," she said, though she wasn't too certain whether or not there would be a next time. The sulphur scent was concerning, as she took that as to be some sort of warning sign of something paranormal coming about, but surprisingly the vanishing ceiling actually helped her to relax slightly. With the ceiling starting to vanish and the sky showing through, she wasn't stuck in a small enclosed space anymore - it made her breathing a little easier to accomplish.

"In my reality, weird things like this happened when time was damaged almost beyond repair - maybe something similar is happening here? Since Alicia... moved on or whatever and we're hearing her, the haze, then the ceiling vanishing, the odd smell..." Andromeda suggested, trying to regain her composure slightly and banish the extreme blush from her cheeks.

Okay, all weird types of shit is happening. We got one person smelling sulfur. Now, normally if one is under where there is supposed to be a military base in the late 1800's/early 1900's this isn't a huge thing. Throw in that we now have one Emendator telling us that you are not under said barracks, that could be a problem. Not to mention the smell of sulfur for Emendators is never a good thing. It's like hearing a woman go "fine", a redneck yelling "Hey y'all watch this", or the house going quiet with a toddler in it. It never ends well. Smell of sulfur for an Emendator usually only means one thing - Destruere. And on top of all of this, we are losing the top of the damn cave/tunnel/building. Like it is being faded out by some demented peeping Tom with Photoshop World 2.0,just turn that layer mask off. (Forgive me I haven't had enough coffee today.)

So yeah, red flags. Bad things. More people are going to start smelling the sulfur now. More voices are coming your way - "Vera, Lady Munn?"

"One bullet might not. Twenty might, I'd bloody wager. I'm after supplies, who's with me?"

"I'm not sure - others like me are near."

"Your ass should be fucking dead I killed you a mother fucking year ago!"

"...Are we dead?"

"Duck and cover fuckers!"

Peter feels as if his head is about to spin off as it keeps snapping left and right, trying to see where the voices are coming from.Turning left, turning right, looking up, looking down. Yet, all the while, while he is looking he hasn't noticed something personal. The edges of his fingers and the top of his head seems to be pulling the same magic act that the ceiling is going through. Did someone snap their fingers?

Faith was thankful she was able to stomach what she saw as Parliament pulled a chair for her in probably the creepiest way possible. She took a seat as Dread bid them farewell. Faith took a moment to center herself and prepare for questions. She wondered just what Parliament knew about her. She wasn’t happy with how the situation came about last time she was in New York, but could one blame her? She was new to all of this. She aimed to be better.

So when Parliament asked her the question, she knew the answer. ”Yes. That’s why I’m here. That’s why I came seeking Babylon and came to see you instead. If she’s in trouble, if others or time or whatever are in trouble, and I can aid in any way, I want to. I haven’t mastered that power yet, but I am willing to work on it and be better.” She glanced at Siduri, wondering what the woman thought. She knew her answer to be true, surely. That was why she was brought here.

”If I may be so bold, what can you tell me about all of this? From what I was told, you seem to just know things. If I am going to do this, I’d like to know as much as possible before we proceed. I am putting myself on the line, after all.” She hoped she wasn’t rude. She didn’t know how to address such things.

Giosue Zino

Location: Underground Tunnals, Cairo, Egypt
Skills: The Watch Act I: Time Portals

And things were going so (relatively) smoothly too. In hindsight, Gio should have known that fate would not allow them such ease of movement for as long as they'd wanted, but it would have been pointless to act otherwise. What was the alternative? To sit around waiting for the end, not knowing if it'd be in 3 years or 3 minutes? Even for the most glacial of the Emendators such a mode of being was rather pathetic.

But that didn't change the fact that the situation that they were in was bad. Dire. Abysmal. And it all happened so quickly. When he heard Nancy's voice, at first he thought that she was in the armory above. But he shouldn't have been able to hear them as clearly as he did. And the location wasn't exactly right. Then there were more voices, and they weren't coherent enough for them to all be part of the same conversation. That, combined with the sky above made Gio conclude in agreement with Andromeda that they were probably experiencing the beginning of the complete dissolution of time-space proper and these were bits and pieces of other times and places. Not that mattered in the face of the far more pressing danger.

"That is likely the case, Ms. Andromeda. Although in this situation it's on a far larger scale than the breakdown of a single timeline. And I finally remembered. Sulfur. If you smell sulfur, then Destruere are near." Too bad they lacked the firepower to kill any. On top of all that, the location made them fish in a barrel, and their fated enemies just so happened to be armed with proverbial shotguns. In the midst of all this, Gio looked over to Peter and saw his fingers start to fade. At that point, The Watch decided to risk it all. He didn't want to do this, but at this point if time broke completely, it would simply be slightly ahead of schedule. Giosue pulled out his pocket watch and attempted to open up a time portal to somewhere. Almost anywhere or when would be a better situation than the one they found themselves currently.

"If this works, go through! I don't know how long it will hold!"

Things were getting chaotic now, the ceiling disappearing, the smell of sulfur, and the return to life of the previously dead.He gave a worried look to Andromeda as she mentioned this sort of thing happening when time was damaged in her timeline, whatever that meant. That on it's own sounded patently horrible, but Gio compounded the hopelessness of the situation by saying that it would be more accurate to describe the situation as one of a much larger scale. Time itself seemed to be dying, something that could not be good news for the Watch, given how closely he related to the concept. He worried what might happen to Gio in the wake of all of this.

Watching him attempt to open a portal, and gritted his teeth. He had no idea what opening a portal would look like here, but he knew that the consequences of attempting would pale in comparison to the prospect of all of them being faced head to head with a Destruere with no real armaments. He readied himself to hurry through the portal, should it open; as far as he was concerned, he was among the last hope for the timelines, and he couldn't allow himself to die here. Should they die, all could be lost, even if Faith succeeded in her mission. Things were getting progressively more and more fucked, and he had no idea how to deal with it.

Skills: N/A

Gilbert breathed a heavy sigh. They seemed to be going in circles. The haze was the first big environment change, and the thing which prompted them to utilize one of Gio's portals at the outset of this latest adventure. Alright, the universe puts them in places that they need to be. Why the universe didn't put him in this place at this time when he experienced it originally was beyond him, time travel coupled with an extremely long life being what it was. Maybe in the grand scheme of universal events, there was some lesson that he needed to learn before being placed in this position. Or maybe, during this time, the temporally local version of himself was looking out of a window with a profoundly confused but utterly amused look on his face. It wasn't that long ago for an Emendator, really. Come to think of it, it wasn't the mist. It was time speeding up in the Destrehan Plantation Loop.

Looking around at the people with him and noting the voices floating around, he could have facepalmed. Of course, it was the collection of Paradoxes. That was the great "X Factor" in the equation. He needed to make sure that these people were ready for whatever was coming up, these people specifically. Or this was just a huge, random jumble of people, places, and things, all thrown into a soup that they just had to make the best of. While that was probably the long and short of it (and he knew it), Gilbert preferred to look at this as a series of specific events put together as something almost literary in nature. Destiny and free will clashing with just the right pieces of the puzzle coming together, outcome highly uncertain.

This was a very different outlook from the one he had as a young man. It was less sophisticated, certainly, less exposed to the ideas that came with humanity evolving along. Funny how the lessons of humanity seemed to reflect in him, personally.

Well, the situation was overly screwed up, and though going through a portal seemed to exacerbate things in the first place, it was highly logical that it was a good option now. Their goal was gone. Literally gone, along with the city above them. The haze remained. All they accomplished, really, was to get people in one place at one time. Oh, that was an ugly thought. Trap, anyone? Well voices or no, there were the Paradoxes present to think about. "Excellent idea, Giosue," he said tersely, an element of watchfulness in his features. "Time is something we have both too much and not enough of. We might attempt this again later, or try for a different event." Hesitation only made for delay. Delay was costly.

James Grady

Location: Tunnels (Cairo, Egypt: October 6th, 1924)
Skills: N/A

James nodded at Andromeda's words. He could tell that his involuntarily(?) inappropriate words were giving her a bit of a blush, which for someone who was as fair complected as her came out with the subtlety of the elevator scene from The Shining. Far be it for him to try to make anyone feel uncomfortable, despite his many successes over the years. "In my world, dead folks got up an' started eatin' the livin' ones without a warnin' sign at all. Best as I can figure, Apocalypse's a damn relative thang." Perhaps if he engaged her in moderately relevant dialogue, it would help bring the pale back in her cheeks.

That was a thought James never figured he'd have. Oh well, context.

Minor observances in the underground corridor, if indeed this counted as underground anymore, led James to agree with the ongoing consensus of opinion about portaling the hell out of there. If it was possible to get back to the Plantation, he'd be up for it. (And concerning his ethnicity and their history in his timeline, that was also a thought he never figured he'd have. It must be a day for it.) "Yeah, we definitely gots to R-U-N-N-O-F-T," he said, nodding in agreement. He might even have forked over a shiny new nickel for anyone who got that movie reference, provided that he had a shiny new nickel to begin with. Wait, didn't Peter have the money?

Looking at Peter, James voiced openly, "Yeah, we gotta move, some of us more than others. Like, now-ish, get me? C'mon."

Sophia Harris

Location: Babylon Fortress, Cairo, Egypt (underground/tunnels)
Skills:

As Sophia stood here she looked around as everything started to break apart, the ceiling was fading and just as she looked at Peter again, she looked in shock as she watched Peter starting to fade as well. It looked like they were to late is everything started to be crashing and falling apart with this haze as well going on around them. She stopped as she could hear voices filling the hallway now as well looking around with her torch wondering where exactly the voices were all coming from. "We need to get out of here as soon as possible." Sophia said as she agreed with Gio.

She watched as he attempted to make a time portal down here wondering if it would even be successful here in the first place or not, she wanted to help Peter from fading, but she wasn't even sure what she could even do to try and help prevent it either. The barracks weren't there from what Gilbert had said which was also confusing to. "The sooner we leave the better." Sophia said as she looked at everyone else as well to see if they started fading or not. Sophia thought about using her ability to try and hear where the voices were coming from. But she wasn't sure if that would even give them answers on where the voices were even coming from in the first place either.

Andromeda Aldrich

Location: Babylon Fortress, Cairo, Egypt
Skills: N/A

She recognized a few of the voices - George, Nancy, and Alicia. With one of the voices making an exclamation about how someone should be dead, she had to wonder if they were referring to Alicia. Maybe this was Alicia's life before she became a Paradox? Of course, there was the possibility that it was their Alicia and she was still alive, but Andromeda didn't have nearly enough knowhow with all of these things in order to make sense of it all. Her primary experience with the breakdown of time and reality came from that fateful day back in Coventry - and the outcome had been that she died. Her life force was drained and essentially used to help time get enough energy to repair itself. The tips of her fingers felt cold as she contemplated whether or not that was about to happen to all of them here right now. She wasn't ready to die - not again.

She nodded quickly at James. "Apocalypse always seems to be used for events where at least someone will survive the near end of the world..." She bit down on her lip again. "Th-this is how I died last time - not this exactly but a smaller version of it. We need to run... if we can." She wasn't sure that was possible. Giouse's portal might not form. Even if it did, if all of the timelines were collapsing in on each other or colliding or otherwise imploding, what was to say that wherever they went would be any better? Peter was fading away and she had to wonder - was that what it had looked like when she died? Her entire body felt like an electric current was racing through it as she waited to see if Giouse's portal would open. Yet she feared that it was already too late - that they would all be dead before they could even run through the portal if it appeared.

Babylon Fortress, Cairo, Egypt: October 6th, 1924- Maybe? Maybe Not?

Special Note: That Haze will remain until further notice, so make sure to keep to it. ^_^

Maybe opening a portal that can move people through space and time when the world seems to be vanishing around you isn't the best of ideas. Then again, maybe it is. Opening a portal though isn't an easy endeavor. Like any Emendator skill, it takes practice and focus and stamina. It is a good thing that Gios physical strength and mental sharpness are in no way a direct reflection of his apparent age. Thing is, even being an Emendator, pulling any skills is difficult and it take far longer than normal to get the portal open. Even once it is open, it isn't as large or clear as they might usually be but right now beggars cannot be choosers.

Peter is standing there, in full agreement that they need to get out of there. Like now. Especially considering he is hearing voices of others but he cannot see them. His head starts to tilt to one side and he blinks before rubbing his eyes. "Are you seeing this?" he asked but it wasn't about the world seeming to vanish around them, or change, or merge, or however you wanted to describe it. "Uncle?" he questioned as he took a step forward, not towards the portal, and reached his hand out. It was at that time Peter noticed that his fingers seemed to be vanishing, looking down swiftly, it seemed more and more of him was going. Within moments Peter was gone. A blink of the eye and James slowly started to dissolve as well.

Now was the time to move because it seemed if you lingered too long, you might not be around much longer. Get moving peeps! Through the portal, it may not be around next round. What is on the other side of the portal? You'll find out in the next update. End posts as you step into the portal.

Giosue Zino

Location: Underground Tunnels, Cairo, Egypt
Skills: The Watch Act I: Time Portals

Now if asked in a peaceful situation what the chivalrous course of action would be in a matter like this, perhaps one would say that it would be to stand back and make sure everyone else made it off the boat first so to speak. Well those people were probably all already erased by time so it didn't matter what they thought anyways. But as Giosue saw it, it was rather like being a war doctor. Your first priority was to make sure you survived, because if you die, you can't help anybody else.

With the Destruere quickly closing in and the fabric of time-space deteriorating, only he had the ability to potentially actively change anything. Perhaps Evelina's Dice might also have been able to effect a change, but she was a non-factor here. If he died here, even if everyone else survived, whenever they ended they would be stuck there. And if they needed to be elsewhen, then they'd have no recourse. On top of that, he had no idea how long he'd be able to maintain that portal. If it lasted long enough for everyone to pass through, fantastic. But it might only last a fraction of a seconds. He didn't even have time to think of anything as making sure everyone else got through. It would be like trying to hold the open the blast doors of a supercruiser. As soon as he saw the portal opened he stepped through. To where, he had no clue, and really didn't care.

Bartholomew Rosecliff

Location: Underground Tunnels, Cairo, Egypt -> Through the portal
Skills:N/A

Time to run, and go through another portal, it seemed. Steadying himself, he took one last look around at the ever deteriorating Cairo. Things had gotten so bad, so quickly, to the point that it finally started to sink in exactly the magnitude of threat they were up against. It seemed reality was dying, he didn't have a better way to describe it. Attempting to fix something like this, with the resources they seemed to have would be like trying to fix a Ferrari with only spare parts in a junk yard. Technically possible, but a monster of a challenge that, even if they made all the right moves, would still require a good deal of luck.

Still, they had to try, even if the task was insurmountable, there'd be no point in just letting this come to pass. Watching Giosue go through the door, he gritted his teeth, and knew his time in Cairo had come to an end. Waiting for others to get through would do no good for him, especially considering the possible instability of this portal. If he got trapped here, he would surely die again, and he wasn't ready to do that. Taking one last look at the dying world around him, he followed after the Watch, and stepped through the portal, wherever, or whenever it might end up taking him.
