Electricity hung in the air; one would be hard pressed to tell whether it was just because of the recent storm that had passed or if it was charged dreams of the Los Angeles hopeful. It was a palpable feeling; one that you felt the minute you saw the Hollywood sign on top of that glorious emerald hill.

The small neighbourhood of Oceanside was situated between two worlds, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills. This placement meant it was a true hybrid area, filled with the glitz and glamour of the rich and famous but with a suitably sleazy twist. There was the Pit, a down right pig hole of a bar where the drinks were cheap and the staff were mostly wannabe rockers dying to move up to the Whiskey a Go Go. Of course there was also Oceanside Gourmet; a cheap Denny’s Knock off with greasy late night food and doe eyed waitresses willing to serve deep into the night. There was a good chance that if you weren’t working at one of those two places, you probably worked at the Treasure Chest, a gentleman’s club known for its beautiful girls and it’s creed “Discretion is a guarantee, pleasure is the bonus”.

Most of the business in Oceanside are owned by one man; Douglas Bigby. Doug; like everyone else came to LA with stars in his eyes as a fresh faced eighteen year old from Illinois. He worked mostly menial jobs, trying to shove his scripts and screenplays into the hands of anyone at all in the movie industry. This method failed spectacularly most of the time with the only positive being that someone of the greedy fucks would steal his idea but he’d never be able to prove it. Failing miserably as a screenwriter, Doug converted his latest script into a self published humour magazine he called “Future Imperfect”. It swiftly became popular with the local colleges because of its juvenile and deadpan humour. Within a few years, Future Imperfect was on the coffee tables of most under thirties and Doug was a millionaire. He invested in the development of the Oceanside neighbourhood with the goal of protecting young artists from an industry that would use them and abuse them. It is not uncommon to find Douglas Bigby roaming the streets at midnight in his green robe, drink and cigar in hand, spouting philosophy; every bit the comedy figure that his magazine would suggest.

In fact Doug had been walking the streets when he happened upon the scene that was now unfolding before him. The flashing red and blue police lights were illuminating the growing crowd as the two officers surveyed the body on the ground, a pool of blood formed in a perfect circle beneath her porcelain skin. The pink dress was a dead giveaway, Doug knew who this was, an aspiring starlet of the silver screen named Nikki Entwhistle and she had rather obviously room a swan dive off of the bridge that hung above them as an entrance into Oceanside. Poor girl. He turned and looked upon the face of another crowd member and put his hand on his shoulder.

”Hollywood is a faithless place, Kip. She ain’t the first and she won’t be the last. Swing by the Pit and tell me about your trip later” His nonchalantness was not to be confused with apathy; it was simply that he had seen tragedy like this before and there was only so many times a heart could break. Doug slipped out of the crowd and back into the night before the young man could even respond.

Kip backed out of the growing crowd and slipped off down an alleyway towards his apartment. In Los Angeles, it wasn’t a great surprise to turn a corner and see a police barrier but when you’ve literally just gotten off of a plane after a twelve hour flight from Japan, it can be a bit of a shock. He climbed up the stairs to his loft and opened the door to a wave of silence and dust. Kip had been gone for a month and it didn’t look as if the cleaning lady had been there in just as long...who was he kidding? He didn’t have a cleaning lady.

Closing the door behind him he dropped his bag onto the floor and then grabbed the wall to stabilise himself. Everything was aching but nothing more so than his back. KVC had only been wrestling for a few years and he’d been fortunate enough to work in a few big territories and get through them all in a fairly healthy condition but Japan was a whole different genre. It was hard hitting, rough and violence: Kip loved it. Or at least he did until he took a bad bump his last go round and has done something bad to his back. He couldn’t really make heads or tales of what the Japanese doctor was saying but it didn’t sound good.

Leaving his gear by the door, Kip walked over to his fridge and pulled out the last remaining beer he had left behind before his trip and then a bag of ice from the freezer before heading into the bathroom. He poured the ice into the bathtub, took off his clothes and climbed in. The chill was a welcome reprieve from the pain. He cracked open the beer and leaned back, turning the radio on as he did. For a normal person, eleven pm was probably too late for a bath but Kip wasn’t a normal person. He never had been. He had bounced around foster homes, been involved in some shady deals and he wore tights and fought big sweaty men for a living; no Kip Van Cise was not a normal person. His mind drifted to his sixteen year old brother; Mason, currently living with some family in Santa Monica a few hours away. He had to remember to visit him soon; reaching into his crumpled up pants on the floor, he pulled out a baggie of white pills and washed them down with his beer. KVC was on the precipice of something special, he could feel it, he had momentum, he couldn’t let a little back pain derail him when he was so close.

When the agony had subsided enough, Kip lumbered out of the tub and into the bedroom to his untouched closet. The Pit was not the place to be dolled up and looking your best; it was a shithole. Then again it was their shithole. Changing into a simple pair of jeans and denim jacket combo, KVC quickly feathered his blonde hair and downed a few more painkillers before heading straight back out of his loft. It was a short walk to the Pit and an even short walk past the queue outside and up to the large bouncer known only as Rig.

”My man, Rig how they hanging brother?” Kip fist bumped the larger gentleman as he made his way towards him.

”Sweaty and slightly to the left. How was Japan man?”

Kip slipped some money into Rig’s short pocket and smiled ”it was a strange one my brother, I’ll fill you in soon. First I need to get some beer. Get some strange and listen to the some rock n roll” KVC patted the big man on the back before entering the hazy club. He found his way to his usual seat through the crowd of leather and denim clad club goers and smiled at the familiar bartender.

”I’ll take a shot and beer and one for yourself”

"So, anyway, that's pretty much how I lost just short of three million dollars by sailing my boat before it was insured. Could I afford it? Of course I could. Was it a pain in my ass? Fuck yeah it was..."

If there was one thing Lolly had learned throughout her time in LA, it was that the richer a guy was, the more soul-drainingly boring his conversational skills became. And this guy she had found herself nestled in a corner of an expensive-looking futon with was the worst of the sort. She had discovered over time that money seemed to find a way to bleed into every conversation, every gesture, of the upper class gentlemen of Los Angeles. Once she had made a game of it in her head - to try and find out for herself what the most obscure link between random subjects of conversation and money these wealthy men could make. It had amused her to great extents to hear some screenwriter divert a chat about species of duck to a discussion revolving around the cost of his recent 5-star trip to Venice, and the exotic cuisine he had tasted there. Pathetic. She had long-since grown to despise both men and women of this kind.

One would never guess as such, however, if they were to watch as Lolly seemed to hang onto every word her companion was saying - her features displaying nothing short of genuine interest and naivety as she listened to him speak. Conversing with the rich was an art form she had long-since mastered. Make them feel special; assure them that their money does indeed make them more important than everyone else around; and, more than anything, encourage them drone on for hours about themselves. They love that.

However, despite her obvious talent in the field of charming the affluent, there was only so much a girl could take of this mind-numbing chatter. The only reason Lolly had even started talking with Mr Rhodes was that she had heard he had connections to some of the biggest lawyers in the area, but after at least an hour of listening to him brag about his achievements in life, she had come to the conclusion that she was going to get nothing out of him - no matter how many times she subtly tried to sway the conversation with a vague remark and a twirling of her hair. God, she needed a bump.

This was not that kind of party, though. It was almost like a dinner party without the actual dinner, much to Lolly's dismay. She hadn't eaten since before her shift at the diner that morning, despite her roommate and colleague Darcy's insisting that she had at least a bite of one of her last customer's leftovers. Of course, she had refused - something that she was cursing herself for now as hunger gnawed at her stomach.

Plastering a smile on her face, Lolly gently removed the hand resting on her thigh that had slowly been moving its way up for the past hour. The hand was soft - too soft. This guy had never felt a day's work in his stupidly easy life. A wave of resentment threatened to shatter the charm she had slowly built throughout the conversation, but she pushed it down.

"Mr. Rhodes... Dave...it really has been a lovely evening, but I’d better be going." She fluttered her lashes, offering no further explanation as she rose from her seat that had been practically on top of the man.

"Leaving already? And without me? But we were getting along so well, sweets." The too-soft hand now gripped her own, a firm grasp that promised to tighten if she were to try and pull away. Of course, no one else in the room was paying attention to the exchange - rather, they were all far too immersed in their own shallow conversations to even notice. Lolly grit her teeth in annoyance, but her smooth expression never faltered.

"You're right, of course. But maybe we could get to know each other a bit more some other time? I really have to be somewhere soon." She didn't fail to notice the spark of anger in Dave's eyes as he made no move to let go of her hand.

"And where's that? You don't wanna leave me hangin', do you, Lols?"

"The Pit."

It was always Lolly's go-to escape route whenever she grew tired of whoever she was talking to at the time. No self-respecting upperclassman would risk tarnishing their reputation in such a shithole. She knew that, and recognised the familiar thinly-veiled disgust that pulled at Dave's features as she mentioned the name. Apparently, though, he was really desperate.

"A girl like you? A place like that? Alone? No chance. Tell you what, I'll take you there and then I'll take you home, huh?"

It took every ounce of Lolly's self control not to laugh in this guy's face. He wouldn't last an hour in the Pit. Still, she didn't have the energy to argue for her independence any longer. May as well get some free drinks before she ditched him and his infuriatingly arrogant rhetorical questions for good. So she allowed a beaming smile to light up her features, giving Mr. Rhode's hand a gentle tug as she nodded as enthusiastically as she could.
-----------

Lolly's suspicions of her companion's reaction to the Pit had been absolutely correct. She tried not to smirk at his horrified expression as she guided him past the growing queue outside the place she had grown to love, instead offering small nods of the head and winks at those she knew as she made her way towards the door. She was perhaps a little dressy for the likes of the Pit, her outfit drawing the attention of quite a few of the strangers she passed, but she didn't care that much. She knew she looked good. The bouncer, Rig, had by now become used to Lolly arriving at the entrance to the bar with some terrified rich guy in tow, and let the pair in with a knowing chuckle. Lolly knew for a fact that Rig would make sure that Mr Rhodes would be leaving this place with a significantly lighter wallet.

Lolly’s eyes scanned through the haze of smoke and flashing lights to search for anyone she recognised as she wove in and out of the small groups dotted about the place. She wasn’t looking for any help, but rather the knowledge that there was someone she could join as soon as Mr Rhodes retreated. She could almost smell the disgust rolling off of him.

Still, the brunette had to give it to him - he hadn't turned and ran the second the dark, loud and murky atmosphere hit them as they entered. In fact, he made it all the way to the bar without so much as a stumble. She could tell by his guarded posture as they settled into a pair of barstools that he wouldn't be lasting long, though. Time for her to put her God-given talents to good use and drain his pockets before he made his exit. Biting her lip and leaning in, her signature move, she smiled.

"Aren't you gonna buy me a drink?"

“Long night for ya?” Rig asked.

Jed hadn’t realized how obvious his irritation was. He was pinching the bridge of his nose and wincing his eyes shut, both between fast drags of a lit cigarette. “Is it that obvious?” Jed replied, glancing over to Rig.

“Well,” Rig paused, checking I.D’s mindlessly as he spoke, “Your face says it all, hotshot.”

Jed laid his head against the cool bricks behind him, one leg was propped up and used to rest his arm on. Another heavy drag, and a cloud of smoke escaped his lips with each word, “I just want more.” He shook his head.

“I’ve heard that one before.” More I.D checking, but everyone knew that the Pit welcomed everyone unless you looked like an actual toddler. Rig continued, “And I know you’ve heard the same responses from everyone you say that to.”

‘Just go get it.’—‘What’s holding you back?’—‘You’ll make it eventually!’ Yeah, I’ve heard it all before. . .” Jed flicked the ashes from his cigarette. “I just want it now! I’m tired of waiting for something to happen. I’m tired of being rejected.”

“All super stars have a story, ya know.”

“I’m an author, Rig. I’m not trying to be a movie star.” Jed rolled his eyes.

“Hey, who said authors can’t be stars?” Rig turned to him, leaning against the frame of the entryway, adjacent to Jed. “All I’m saying is that you need to enjoy the pages, or you’ll forget what you’re writing.”

Jed’s eyes flicked open, the stars somehow shining a little brighter after that statement. One final sizzle from the burn of his cigarette and he nearly huffed the smoke into Rig’s face. “Rig, I don’t know why I doubt that you can be smart sometimes.”

“That’s a little insulting,” Rig replied with narrowed eyes. But a smirk arose from the humor of the remark. He turned to the newcomers, “Check out this one though? She’s a real babe. How much you think that son of a bitch paid—.”

Jed stiffened, interrupting Rig with a fast backhand to his chest out of reaction. Her alluring strut, her golden thighs beneath the hem of her tight, white dress, and her long brown hair that contoured her amazing body—it all added to an unexpected seduction; and Jed couldn’t decipher whether she aimed it towards the rich man on her arm or him and Rig—perhaps everyone. But as she got closer, it was the way she looked at Rig that helped resurface his memory of her. While he’d never gotten her name, he’s spoken to her at parties a multiple of times. But it was this very reason, these exact events of hers, that kept him from diving deeper into who she really was.

Jed was no rich man, and she was no average gal.

After their greeting, and after Rig allowed them to go inside, Jed immediately stepped between Rig and the next patrons to come up. “Rig,” Jed started, “How come you never told me you knew her.”

“She comes here all the time, how do you not know her?”

Jed scoffed and patted him on the shoulder as he darted inside, “I gotta go.”

The lights were always a bit disorienting to face when he came back inside after a smoke break. But he knew how to maneuver around the crowd to get back to his position behind the bar quickly. Thanks to her white attire, he was able to spot her amidst the haze of purples and pinks. “Uhhh. . .” Jed groaned under his breath, trying to come up with a smooth introduction.

He picked up a glass and a rag, beginning to polish it as he slid his way to their part of the bar. Jed’s words were aimed towards the man at first, though his eyes never left her. “You look like you need a drink.” He spoke loudly over the music, “To come to a bar with a girl like her, you need to loosen up!” And while the man was still lost in the ambiance, he shot her a wink.

Another day of constant beeping as she pushed groceries over the scanner had finally come to an end. Alice made her way through the crowd and into the ladies room. Shuffling through her pockets her hands finally found the treasure they had been searching for - good ole booger sugar. Placing it on the counter she let out a loud ground and rubbed her eyes. Today really took a toll on her, not that anything crazy in particular happened, she just wasn't a big fan of working at the co-op. The upside was she got free groceries, that she clearly wasn't eating as she was a very thin girl, but it helped when she was barely scraping by out here. Her parents were constantly worried and trying to get her to move back to rural mid-west America, but that wasn't gonna happen. Alice knew one day she'd make it, but for now...she was a tired girl working at a local organic store and needed a pick me up.

Opening the bag, Alice dipped her pinky into it and raised her it up to her nose. The instant rush from the inhale was always the best part of her day. In her best attempt at telling herself she wasn't an addict, Alice refused to do anything during office hours. But the moment she was out of that grocery store, her brain was kick-started by the ever so enjoyable white powder that kept most of the night life up into the early...or late hours of the morning. Depends really what your own schedule is. She looked back in the mirror and smiled slightly, brushing her fingers through her hair that clearly was rarely brushed, but the grunge look suited her.

Today she was wearing a black tanktop, a long sleeved blue mesh shirt over it, both tucked into a black jean skirt. Black stockings and some very worn off brand grey boots finished the outfit. Her outfits looked like she just woke up and grabbed whatever was closest to her, and honestly...you wouldn't be wrong to assume that. Alice basically brought a single trash-bag full of clothes with here, and was lucky enough to have a mattress already in the room she was renting. Everything in her life was slowly coming together, she loved hand-me-downs, and took flyers from the walls of venues to decorate her own bedroom walls. She felt she didn't really need much at the moment, but was never against accepting anything. Especially clothes, Alice had her own style and rocked it well, so if you ever had clothes to spare or wanted to spend a day thrifting, she was the one to get up with.

As she began to dip for a second round the door swung open and it was one of her favorite faces. "Darcy!!" Alice squealed, leaving the baggie on the counter and wrapping her arms around her female companion. "You came at the right time..." Alice doubled back, grabbing the baggie and wiggling it as a mischievous smile graced her face. Handing it off, Alice pulled herself onto the counter next to the sink and turned putting her feet into it and looking in the mirror. "What do you think...should I cut my hair? My boss today was saying that some customer found a piece of it in their bag....like just gag me..." Turning her head side to side she examined herself and looked back at her friend as she herself was indulging in the sweet sugar, Alice accepted the package back once offered and did another round herself.

"What do you think? I got this from uh.....Toby. Friend of my roommates, I kinda like this shit more. Feel like it lasts longer..." Oh yeah, it was kicking in, the usually silent girl was starting to ramble on. "Hey man, feel like I haven't seen you in a while...what have you been up to? Here, take another one". You'd think for the girl who was barely making it by to be more conservative of her drugs but in her mind Sharing is Caring and It always comes back around. Two of her famous catchphrases.

It was another splendid day in the neighborhood. Actually, a rather productive one at that. New shows were scheduled, liquor and beer order had been submitted, books looked great - it was a cause for celebration! Bennett was truly in high spirits and he rode that high all the way into the late afternoon. The radio was on in the background and after the short commercial break "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" started to play. "No way! Choice man!" Bennett exclaimed, turning the volume dial up and returning back to the mirror to prefect his voluminous hair. He bobbed and hummed along to the song - smoothing his hair back gently and making sure every strand was in place before revealing himself to the world. The song was truly adding more glory to his day, his foot tapped and he couldn't help but stare at his own reflection as he danced around and gave one last comb over on his hair before spinning around on his heel and heading downstairs.

Bennett clamored down the stairs into his office, locking the door to his loft behind him and then again the door to the office as he exited it. Heading towards the front door of The Palace, the child his parents so proudly funded, Bennett stopped for a moment and looked to towards the bar. He had yet to have anything today and deserved a small pregame before beginning his night. The good thing about owning your own bar was not having to pay for anything, so with that logic Bennett proceeded to throw back a double of Jack Daniels and chug a Highlife. A burp erupted from his chest as he hopped back over the bar and headed out the front door onto the city streets.

The sirens were the first thing that caught his attention as he made his way down the street, next would be the sight of them. "What the hell happened here?" Bennett commented aloud, a random pedestrian filled him in on the dead girl that laid before them. "Bummer man...." Before he let the fear of human mortality cling into his mind - Bennett remembered he needed to celebrate his day. Probably take an extra shot for the poor girl too. Lighting up a spliff, Bennett quickly made his way away from the scene and knew exactly where to head - The Pit. He strutted past the line that was formed outside, a real regular move, raising his hand up in the air as he saw his part time employee. "YO RIG MY MAAAAN! Don't forget, need ya this weekend. Big show, presales looking great!" He winked and strolled on into the bar with no second thought. Rig probably wasn't his biggest fan, but hey Bennett was known to pay big. As soon as he stepped into the bar his eyes looked through the sea of faces and spotted the few he knew. Bingo.

Whether you wanted to know the man or not, Bennett was gonna make his name known. Purely for business reasons, as you never know what connections someone else may have. Bennett's name wasn't exactly thrown in the dirt, but he was known for being full of himself, hey at least he covered the bar tabs and drugs. Clapping his hands down on the shoulders of the man in front of him, Bennett yelled at the bartender "Lets get another round over here for this man, and my usual!!" Bennett moved himself to Kip's right after making his demands and leaned on the bar. "Damn man, how ya been? WHERE have ya been for that matter? You would not-" A young sharp jawed blonde bartender dressed up in tight black leather pants and a corset to match waltzed over placing another round in front of Jed and a Highlife and shot of whiskey for Bennett.

"I'm assuming I'm starting you a tab, Bennyboy?"

Bennett reached over the bar and gently grabbed her hand, kissing the back of it and winking in unison "You know it doll, put his on mine too of course and uhh..... don't fucking call me Bennyboy". His face dropped and he winked again, she rolled her eyes and moved onto the next patron. Bennett turned his body to Kip and scanned the area "Damn man, hook up with a girl and they think they can give ya pet names....anyways...tell me about your trip". His eyes locked with Jed's for a moment and he nodded at him giving a toothy grin before scanning the rest of the bar - "Ahhhh damn Lolly is here with one of her suitors again....damn that girl...." He, like many, had a huge sweet spot for that fine specimen of a woman. The constant denial didn't deter him though, a plan began to formulate in his brain for how to try and woo her....yet again....tonight. Just call him Johnny Bravo at this point, it was getting kinda sad.

Robin had been the first person to arrive at The Pit this Friday night. Unsurprising, as she lives in the rat’s nest of an apartment above it. She’d spent the better part of the afternoon napping because she’d been ridiculously tired the past few days. That said, she’d gotten up with plenty of time to doll herself up before her shift. Fridays are good tipping nights, even at a dive like The Pit. She busted out some tight leather pants and a matching corset for the occasion, leaving an ample amount of cleavage and her toned drummer’s arms exposed for ogling purposes. Hungry eyes meant opened wallets, and she had both Rig and Jed around just in case any customers tried to get too forward or handsy because of the way she dressed. It was a perfect system, really.

Opening up for the night, she clicked on the television and wiped the bar off in anticipation of her first customers. They usually liked watching whatever seasonal sports game was on. A few hours passed and the bar really started to come alive. Amidst the growing crowd, an unexpected face appeared in the door: Kip. She hadn’t seen him in, jeeze, that must have been about a month ago?

“I’ll take a shot and beer and one for yourself” He said as he saddled up to the bar.

“Welcome back, Kip” She smirked in reply and grabbed a pint glass to begin filling it with his favorite beer on tap. “You know I can’t drink behind the bar.” Or at all, given her age. Even still, she grabbed two shot glasses and poured them both some whiskey. “Buuuttt... this is a special occasion.” She said with a wink, passing him his drinks so that they could tip back their shots in unison. “Give me a sec to help out the other guests, but I wanna hear all about Japan, alright?” Robin said quickly before looking to Bennet, who also just arrived and sat next to Kip.

“I’m assuming I’m starting you a tab, Bennyboy?” She asked with a snarky eyebrow raised. She knew the answer before he even responded and went off to go get his drink. Despite the noisy nightlife, she also heard his comment about their one time hook up and rolled her eyes while her back was turned to him. There was a reason it was only one time, Bennyboy. At the back of her mind, she wondered what Kip would think about that comment… Eh, whatever, free love and all that.

“Double captain, Bigs? Or you gonna switch it up on me?” She asked The Pit’s permanent fixture of a regular as he arrived and took his usual perch at the end of the bar. Lolly made an appearance with her latest victim and they were being helped by her co-bartender, Jed. Robin was nosey and liked stirring up trouble, so she made her way over to them after giving Douglas his double of rum.

“Who’s this, Lols? Robin asked in a purr and looked the man over. The poor fucker had no business being in a place like this, but his money was just as good, if not better, than anyone else’s here, if only because he had more of it to spend. “Lookin’ like hubby material, he is.” The flirtation had no actual emotional investment associated, it was just the practiced charisma of a young female bartender at it’s finest. Sex sells, baby.

Interactions / Mentions @Filthy Mudblood @MesuOkami @Lionhearted @GhostMami @Giallo -- pretty much everyone at this point

party now, rehab later

It wasn't a terrible start to her day, if Darcy were to think back on it. Yeah, sure - if she counted there being no water pressure when she went in for a shower that morning, not terrible. Not to mention the lack of hot water throughout the apartment she shared with Lolly. She would have blamed the brunette, except she was still passed out - so there went that excuse. Then of course there was the commute to the diner which went belly side when the "bus" - if she could even call it that, just a rusted hunk of junk - stalled seven blocks from her destination. When she did finally make it to work, a disgruntled customer, who albeit looked to be having a worse morning than Darcy, smacked right into her as she was carrying a pot of the black stuff refilling other patron's mugs. I guess I got a hot shower after all... she remembers thinking begrudgingly as the liquid spilled across the already hideous uniform she was forced to wear.

Not terrible... but it could definitely be better...

She kept on keeping on. Inhaling harsh and deep through her nose before exhaling through her mouth. The shift seemed to drag on and on after the hectic morning she endured, the idea of getting shitfaced and partying hard getting her through it all. The leftovers from customer's plates helped a lot too. It wasn't like they didn't have food back in their apartment, but it always tastes better when it's free. It was all just enough to keep her levelheaded until shift was over and she could get to the Pit.

Thankfully, she and Lolly shared shifts and when one was off, so was the other. It didn't take them long to get home, cleaned up - making sure to wipe away the coffee stench from her uniform for the next shift - applying makeup, copious amounts of hairspray and throwing clothes on before they were packing up and heading out. "Look Lolls, Imma be at the Pit, you should swing by after your done swindling old rich men~" the wink and puckered lips she shot her friend was all in good fun and then she had been on her way towards her home away from home. It didn't take her long however, to come up on a crowd of people bathed in the alternating red and blue glow of the cop cars littering the area. As curious as she was, she didn't need anymore terrible for the day. Instead she kept on walking, spotting pink out of the corner of her eye, and made the mental note to keep on grinding.

Regardless of the time or day, the Pit was always happening, it didn't matter the type of clientele that liked to loiter around. Tonight was no different, what with the line to get in wrapped around the other side of the building and down the block. Letting out a low whistle Darcy had continued up to the front of the line, basking in the seething glares and obscenities shot her way. "Hey hey my dude! How's my favorite bouncer~!?" her hips swung with every movement and she couldn't resist throwing her arms around his waist in a pseudo embrace.

Rig just rolled his eyes, but there was no mistaking the slight grin that wanted to breakout across his usually stoic face, "Yeah? How many bouncers you know, D?" She had just pouted playfully up at him, even if she was in heeled boots, he was still taller than the blonde woman. "Ah, ya got me there," a beat passed and people being let in and held off were still transpiring around them, "The usual here yet?"

Given the awkward position he was in Rig still managed to scratch the underside of his chin at the small bit of scruff that was left over from his previous shave, "Just a few stragglers - why? You expectin' some new faces?" Darcy hummed as if deep in thought and she couldn't help but think of Lolly most likely dragging a new victim into the snake pit and a giggle escaped her painted lips. "Always babe" She was able to reach up and place a chaste kiss to his right cheek, imprinting his skin, "Catch you inside? First round's on me~," she didn't even stay to wait for his response as she was already making her way behind him and through the door. He muttered something she could barely make out what with the thumping noise already encasing her. She did have the know-withal to throw up a peace sign over her head at him.

Rig stood there shaking his head, "That woman...this place... gonna drive me into the ground..."

The grunge, the smoke, the lights, the noise all flooded her sense setting off a euphoria that she could only feel by being completely surrounded in the ambiance of the lifestyle she participated in. As soon as she was able to break through the threshold and into the crowd of bodies pulsing with heat and desires she made her way to the bar where Robin was tending alongside Jed - though he was dipping out 'Smoke break probably,' she thought and proceeded to order three shots of wells tequila. It was a Friday and she planned on partying like it wasn't ever gonna end. She placed another order, this time for a Coors and once the young blonde behind the bar delivered she thanked her, promised she'd be back and made her way to the ladies rooms.

After swinging the door open she was immediately assaulted by squeals that could rival the bass outside that door and arms being thrown around her. "Darcy!! You came at the right time..." Alice had doubled back towards the sink making a grab at the baggie that had been left there and wiggled it before the older blonde.

A mischievous smile graced her own face as she took the bag graciously, "If it isn't my very own Alice in Wonderland~" Darcy cooed, ruffling the girl's hair before a small 'don't mind if I do' and then taking the substance from the bag and inhaling sharply. Not a bit wasted. Alice had hoisted herself up on the counter next to the sink before rambling on and on about everything and nothing at the same time. The young girl made Darcy feel like an older sister and enjoyed seeing her come outta her shell little by little. "Uh, eww," she laughed out loud enjoying listening to her babble, passing the dust back to it's owner.

Darcy couldn't stop the Cheshire grin crossing her features, having muscled her way next to the younger woman, leaning over to get a view of herself in the mirror, reapplying her dark lipstick and touching up under her nose, "So, Toby, huh?" It was harmless tease and she didn't think much of it in that moment. "Just a little bit of this, little bit of that. Currently working at the Gourmet diner, you're more than welcome to come swing by." And as if struck by a brilliant thought she turned immediately to face Alice, "OOH! You definitely need to stop by the pad whenever ya get the chance, I ain't gotta stash this clean but it's better than the last batch we shared. Besides, if Dana makes an appearance you bet your ass imma be walkin' outta here with a party in my pocket." She finished with a shrug taking another bump before motioning for the two of them to head out back to the bar, her empty bottle thrown into the nearby trash bin.

Upon reentering her sanctuary her eyes locked on to a very familiar face. Rather, the side of one. "Looks like Lolls dragged another sad fucker in with her... wonder how long this one'll last," she was speaking just for the sake of speaking, not even registering that Alice would pick up on her comment. She didn't dwell too long though for they had already maneuvered their way through the throng of people filling up the dive and sidled up to the bar and the patrons that resided there. Bigby being among them. Sipping on his usual.

"Ladies," he tipped his glass up off the bar in a mock salute, "Not having too much fun without me, are you?" Darcy grinned wide pulling him into a side hug, "'Course not, Bigs. We love ya, ain't never gonna be a party without you. Wonderland's got a new level of snow this time around. Pure and fresh~," She shot a wink to her friend and jerked her head in Alice's direction. "You enjoy it for a bit without me, I've gotta date with a pretty little thing." And with that she sauntered her way a few stools down to where Lolly sat, looking bored outta her mind.

Darcy was keenly aware of the stares burning into her friend, and even more so of the glares that tried to sear into her own skin at her approach to the beauty. It's what made it all the better. Throwing an arm lazily over Lolly's shoulder, Jed and Robin present. Robin was currently chatting up the pair of them trying to start drama of her own and honestly, Darcy was all for it. Jed on the other hand... poor boy looked like he short circuited just being in Loll's presence. "You lookin' to catch flies, Jed?" Before he could leave them however she threw out her order for another round of shots, for the four of 'em. "Hey babe~," she turned her attention now to the brunette under her denim clad arm. Darcy sealed the verbiage with a kiss to her cheek as a pair of shots, filled with unnamed liquor was placed before them. Claiming the glass she finally graced the new guy with her gaze, sizing him up but finding nothing of worth there. After downing the shot she pulled Lolly closer to her and whined into her hairline, but still loud enough for her voice to carry to her companion, "You know you'd have more fun with me."

The gentleman, who was clearly uncomfortable with just coming into contact of the stool beneath his expensive slacks, let alone stepping foot into the Pit of all places, snapped when he was clearly being ignored. "Excuse you?! Do you know who I am?" Darcy rolled her eyes, leaning back with another whine, "Look man, I don't give a flying fuck who you are. But you're cramping the ladies vibes. Why don't you bounce off or something. Go back to your ivory tower or wherever and don't bother coming back, yeah?" He seemed to go red in the face - more so than before - trying his damnedest to seem threatening and intimidating. Too bad it didn't work.

"I'll have you know I'm extremely good pals with Douglas Bigby," Darcy's eyes widened a bit, curiosity taking over to see where this was going to play out. He continued, "Yeah, that's right, and one call from me is gonna have you banned from Oceanside if I wanted. You really wanna test me?"

Darcy nodded her head as if in an understanding, "Oh, OK then. Sure, I gotcha dude." Leaning forward across the bar to lock eyes with Bigby down at his designated spot, she whistled and shouted out at him, "Ay, yo Bigs! This guy says he knows you. Gonna get me kicked out Oceanside! You wouldn't do that to lil ol' me though, right?" The sarcasm was dripping. Bigby pretended to be in thought as me continued to sit in his spot, drink still in his other hand before waving to something, or someone behind the trio. Upon turning around, Lolly's date was met with the broad chest of one Rig. "Heya Rig~ told you I'd see you inside."

Rig was silent. Just standing there, menacingly as the gentleman's complexion paled out tenfold with each passing conversation thrown. He thought he was ahead in the game. Thought he could throw names around like a money and get his way - like he did with everything else in his life. However, here in the Pit, he wasn't even worth the space he occupied. It wasn't long before Rig had, escorted, the male out of the bar when Darcy decided to release her hold still on her roommate's shoulder and find purchase on the bar top itself. With the tongue lashing she was sure to get, she might as well get comfortable. "Hey, Robin, can we get some more shots over here? Imma need 'em."

"So, what's your passion?"

As far as studio spaces went, Brandy had seen better. Of course, she had seen worse but that didn't exactly change the fact that she had gotten a raw deal from the real estate company. That was the worst thing about this town, everyone was out for themselves. Everyone was willing to walk on the backs of the little guy if it meant climbing a slightly higher fence. Brandy wasn't sinless, she'd gotten where she was on the backs of all the midwestern suburban girls who thought they could be the next Cheryl Ladd or Goldie Hawn just because they did a crappy school production of Romeo and Juliet. They, like so many, had dreams but lacked passion. Lacked drive. Lacked the good sense to throw away their morals for their own benefit. There was a reason those wannabe dreamers worked in crappy diners or reception gigs while Brandy was renting office space and had captured the libidos of young boys peeking in the shoebox under their older brother's bed as much as she had the fathers and bachelors who still had time for fantasy.

Why should she take the time to mourn those who clung to something as pointless as integrity? The ones who refuse to compromise were the ones who only saw their dreams come to pass when they slept. Everyone thinks they're talented until they leave the comfort of friends and family.

The studio space, located on the third floor of an office building with nothing on the second floor and a laundromat on the first, was a good first step for Brandy. She still had her day-job of performing various other sorts of jobs for the camera and select lucky individuals whose sole contribution to the world would be telling their friends in ten years that they were in a porn once but having a place to call her own was how she would turn from being in front of the camera to being behind it as well. Just because she was established, in comparison to the busloads of dreamers anyway, didn't mean she could rest on her laurels. She already took the adult world by storm in her debut, how historic would it be to do it again. A woman running her own little adult entertainment company...imagine the possibilities there.

Of course, it wasn't all sex and fun. She had her legitimate side and what could be more lucrative to the dreamers, schemers, and true-believers than doing professional head-shots? Brandy had connections. Kind of. More than most and certainly more than the jerks who take advantage of girls fresh off the bus with promise that they know a producer if only they do them a favor...but who would be stupid enough to fall for that trick? Put an ad in the papers, offer a huge discount for anyone who brings said ad, and Brandy was in business. Of course, that it was also a way to gauge potential talent for her enterprise was a little known secret. Either way, even with her crappy studio space, Brandy was on her way.

"Wait, don't tell me. You...want to be an actress, right? You and every other pretty face around here. Well, you've got beautiful skin, but your clothes? Totally unflattering. You're hiding your God given assets. We're women in a man's town, we have to make them want you as much as you want this. But I've got a good feeling about you. You've got a look." Brandy's words of wisdom were aimed at a young girl with porcelain skin who seemed equal parts nervous and excited about head shots. What aspiring star of the silver screen didn't have that? Producers and agents loved passing around the pictures of would-be starlets. Brandy liked to joke that the more producers who popped a stiff one with the shots, the better chance the girl had at getting cast in a picture.

None of them found it quite as funny as she did.

"What'd you say your name was, by the way?"

"Nikki. Nikki Entwhistle."

"Well, look to the left for me, Nikki Entwhistle. And smile. You'll be in the papers one day."

FLASH

"I hate it when I'm right."

For a town obsessed with bright, flashing lights no one really wanted to see the blue and red ones shining down the street yet there was always a certain morbid, macabre curiosity that bade onlookers to sneak their peeks. It was worse in a community where people knew each other. Where people talked. Brandy wondered if anyone would claim the body, if anyone knew who Nikki Entwhistle was. The boys in blue were starting to pull people back, but it was a scene many were familiar with. If it wasn't suicide then it was someone a little too friendly with the lines and thinking they were invincible. In a city full of dreamers, nightmares are far too common.

"Did you know her?" A curious, old gossip stopped Brandy as she turned away from the scene.

"I bought her that dress."

What more needed to be said? The cops wouldn't be interested in talking to Brandy. It was a suicide, not a homicide, and Brandy wasn't exactly friends with the girl. Nikki Entwhistle's head-shots would be in the obituaries tomorrow courtesy of the photos Brandy took. The ones being passed around a studio would be crumpled up and thrown in the trash like so many others. Brandy couldn't bring herself to mourn for the girl. The city had broken her. Another dream dashed, another hopeful discarded with the hopeless. Just another day in paradise. In the same corner shop selling papers with Nikki's obituary more people would purchase a skin rag with Brandy on page thirteen, finger crooked in the mouth. The irony that both Brandy and Nikki would be photographed in similar positions was not lost. Both women weren't strangers to getting fucked.

Brandy needed one of two things, both stiff, and one was more readily attained. It was almost instinct that carried her feet away from the grizzly scene towards the familiar. The Pit wasn't her typical haunt, she'd lived on the fringes between Oceanside and the city for long enough to dart between worlds, but beggars couldn't be choosers and it wasn't as if she would be paying for it anyway. There wasn't a bar in the state Brandy would have to pay for, such was the way of the endless parade of hopefuls with more cash than sense.

As she rounded the corner towards her destination, she arrived just in time to see the bouncer tossing someone. What a dive. If he was drinking here by choice then he was some kind of desperate the then get himself tossed. "Rough night?" Brandy made no attempt to stand in the queue, such as it was. She was getting inside because she was Brandy Valentine.

"No more than usual. You in town for a shoot, B? Don't see you around often. What's it been...couple weeks? Months?"

"Well you know me. I can't keep away from a dive den of depravity. If I stick around, I'll buy you a drink when your shift's done. We can get off together."

"So you are working."

"Nope."

Brandy Valentine left the bouncer grinning as she sauntered past, stepping inside The Pit with all the poise of a celebrity, and considering where she was and who she was...she might as well have been one.

LOGAN
LOGAN

Meanwhile, in the men's room of The Pit: another daily dose of criminality was taking place; an illegal and illegitimate transaction as was far too common in Oceanside. Logan Prescott carefully counted out his dollar bills then fanned himself with him, accomplishing little but wafting the stale air of a bathroom seldom cleaned in the face of his sometimes-dealer, Big Mac – a larger man-about-town who was definitely the most understanding of any he'd done business with before.

"What'll it be, Prez? The usual? Or something better?"

The idea certainly did hold some sway over him. Logan scratched at a phantom itch running up his forearm through the cuff of his jacket, until he shook his head decisively. Once every other month was fine for that particular indulgence, he didn't want to get that feeling his old bandmates described as 'the rats'. "Just the usual. But gimme a couple extra – last payday was mighty and I want to give everyone a good time this weekend. Thanks."

The dealer in the men's room of The Pit didn't even blink at the request, nor did he have to arrange prices with one of his most regular customers. The deal was made (ecstasy taken from an empty tub of chewing gum for a handful of crumpled bills and a handshake) and afterwards, Big Mac pulled out a crushed carton of cigarettes from his inside pocket, holding it out to Logan with a meaty fist. "You do you. Want a smoke?"

Though the outside said they were Marlboros, that was a lie. Logan made a face at the sight of them – disgust mixing with disappointment of having standards too high to accept a freebie for once. "Cloves? Nah, man you're a fucking monster, get out of here and get yourself something decent," Logan said with a hearty clap on the back, rustling the plastic tucked under his thumb. "Stay healthy will ya?"

As he sauntered out of the men's room, he tugged on the belt of his leather pants to bring them up another tight inch, sliding tonight's get into the back pocket. When the time was right he'd break it out: either he'd be having a wonderful night with the best people he'd ever met in his life (and would be willing to share) or he'd turn a miserable one palatable for himself.

Of course, The Pit wasn't the kind of establishment Logan could cause problems in – not without taking a massive dump in his own stomping grounds-slash-sometimes place of employment. Plus, Rig would stop letting him skip queues as a professional courtesy, bouncer-to-bouncer, and that was utterly unthinkable; the sort of thing he used to do with The Sinnermen.

Fuck the Sinnermen, he thought with no amount of spite, as he often did whenever anything reminded him of his old bandmates, and hurried towards the bar to dive into the action.

"Did I hear somebody say shots? 'Cus I'll take one too, Robin Hood," Logan said, entering the picture and throwing one arm over the shoulders of Darcy, which was his usual greeting for that particular spitfire, and planting the other on the bar, cigarette dripping ash. It was busy tonight – a bunch of faces he knew well, a few bodies he wanted to know better (Biblically-speaking), and at least one he pretended not to recognise from the other side of the silver screen.

He winked at the bartender, 'cus that was what one did with bartenders, wasn't it? Didn't matter if it was Robin or Jed, they were getting flirted with; that was Logan's law. "In honour of that brave, brave stiff who followed his dick into the wrong neighborhood, of course. Who brought him?"

Bea let out an annoyed groan as soon as the red and blue lights stopped down the street. She could hear the sirens even when the Gourmet's doors were closed. The tips were shitty enough as it was, but now the patrons were leaving faster to try and get a glimpse of whatever had happened down the street. How skipping out on the tip made them any faster, she'd never know. At least most of these cheapskates still had some food left on their plates that she could pick at once they were gone.

What had been a packed house at the start of her shift had now become a ghost town. Checking the clock, the Gourmet wouldn't fill up again until people stumbled their way out of The Pit. Hell, Bea was supposed to be one of the people drinking her face off in there right now. But she had to cover the shift of one of her coworkers. She had to pay back the favor from last week when she ditched work to rush to an audition for a soup commercial. Another swing and a miss. When she dreamed making it in LA she didn't think it would involve critiques telling her that she didn't hold her joyously enough. Alas, it was the life she lived.

With the diner practically empty Bea sat down with a newspaper and started circling more acting jobs listed in the classifieds. She'd film any dumb commercial right now if it meant it was something she could add to her resume. Not to mention, the cash would make sure she wasn't short on rent this month...again. It really wasn't her fault that she didn't make that much money. When she did get cast in a part she would celebrate with her friends and usually blow her money and booze and drugs before she remembered to set aside the rent portion. She longed for the day where she didn't have to decide between partying and homelessness.

The rest of her shift passed pretty quickly with no one to wait on, and she had the lack of tips to prove it. The faint silver lining was that Bea found some casting calls that were coming up soon. Most were for commercials, but one was to be an extra in a movie. That could be huge. She heard that sometimes if the leads like their extras they can get a line or two. Getting a line in a movie would be the most impressive thing she'd have done since moving to Oceanside. But she was getting ahead of herself, and the audition was still two weeks away.

Bea punched out and walked the few blocks back to her apartment. Passing the crowd still lingering behind the cop cars, she slowed down to sneak a peek. "Hey, what happened over here?"

"She was a jumper." The stranger answered, without looking away from the crime scene.

She raised herself onto her tiptoes to try and sneak a peek, and caught a glimpse of the edge of a piece of tarp. What the hell was the point in waiting around here if they had already covered the body? As morbid as the thought was, Bea knew that people only lingered to see if it was someone they knew. This city could break down any one of them. A few too many cracked under the pressure.

Once she made it to her apartment she changed to head out to The Pit. Thank god that place was the exact opposite of fancy. She spent more time styling her hair into wild curls that framed her face than she did changing into the zebra print dress and denim jacket. Adding some chunky, neon green bracelets and Bea was ready to go party. She confidently strode to the bar, walking right past the obnoxiously long line. She was almost at the door when a guy reached out and grabbed her wrist. "Hey, you can't just sip ahead of everybody. We've been waiting forever."

Yanking back her arm, Bea gave him a once over and scoffed. "First of all, don't touch what you can't afford. Secondly, you're right. Waiting in line is a bummer...for you." Walking away, she couldn't believe the audacity of that guy. Anyone who came to The Pit often enough knew that she was an expected face. It's exactly why she didn't have to wait in line.

"I was starting to think you had snuck in when I turned my back." Rig said, spotting her before she approached him.

"And miss saying hi to my favorite bouncer? Not a chance. I had to pull a double at O.G."

"Another audition?"

"Another failed one. Apparently I don't look happy when I eat soup. Who knew?" She shrugged as she made her way inside. She didn't bother checking to see who was here and who wasn't. Right now, her main concern was fixing how sober she was. Elbowing her way into some bar space, she waved Robin down. "Can I get two shots and a Screaming Orgasm?" She chuckled darkly as she fished out some money from her handbag. "It's a sad day when you realize you have the drink more often than the real thing. Better make that three shots instead of two."

The night had started early for him, a way to clear his head after the workweek and get ready for the weekend. Louis got in before there was much of a line outside to make things simpler. That meant he’d been waiting a while before he was hungry enough to order food, but it gave him time to people watch. There were two things he liked about the Pit: Their reasonably priced and oh-so-greasy cheeseburgers from the bar, and the just plain strange crowd that hung around there.

Right now it was late enough for him to order dinner. While he waited he sat staring at his magazine and slowly sipping from the beer he ordered. There was a discount on a meal if you ordered drinks, and all it took was one cheap beer that Louis could stretch to last a long while. He was leafing through his issue of The New Left Review and trying to find where he had left off with that Mike Davis article. The piece by Frederic Jameson was what grabbed his attention and led him to buy it, but this essay was a nice surprise, even a little relevant to what he saw day to day. New high rises were sprouting up down town like crops in growing season, fertilized with loads of off-shore capital, only a few miles from humble little Oceanside. Here, everything seemed frozen in time building-wise, even rent-wise, but that was fine for anyone who wasn’t interested in bragging about marble countertops and stainless steel faucets.

It was noisy tonight, and the live act hadn’t even started. Bigby had a loud audio set up here, but somehow the lady on the other side of the bar was the loudest thing in the room at the moment. She was shouting out to Bigsby, a little gutsy of her. When Louis looked up he saw it was Darcy, who earlier in the week returned an amp she rented three days late and with a white stain on it that Louis hoped was from a kitchen accident involving cornstarch. She paid all in cash, including the late fees. It was all small bills, and the less Louis knew about what they had been through before, the better.

Close to her Louis saw another face he recognized, Bennett Robertson. Two days ago Louis had taken a look at the wiring set up of the Palace, trying to give him a little advice and build a working relationship. Who knows, he might play a show there, which would certainly be easier than trying to get booked here at the Pit. Last time he sent in a tape sample the called him back because his material sounded so weird they thought the tape was damaged. He said to Bennett

“Hey Bennett! How’s it going with the electrical stuff, you find a contractor for the work yet? Bands these days are all lugging around a ton of cabs, you’re gonna need more juice for the stage if you want to compete.”

He also shot Darcy a dirty look, a way of silently saying that she’d better take more care with her gear if she wanted to rent from him again.

Dana still feels like a fish out of water.

It’s stupid, really. How long has he been in Oceanside? Two, maybe three years? He should’ve gotten used to all of it by now — the hazy, neon-lit nights awash with alcohol, the friendly jabs traded between long drags of cigarettes. Sometimes, the place almost seemed to exist on a different plane of reality from everywhere else, like there was some sort of barrier separating it from the rest of the world. Dana liked to think of Oceanside as the quiet, sleepy antithesis of Hollywood, though he’s often reminded of the implausibility of this little theory of his.

The gathering crowd was the first thing he’d noticed when he was making his way to The Pit. There was a strange hush in the air as they commiserated among themselves, though he could only pick up bits and pieces of conversation even as he strained his ears.

Poor girl…

What a tragedy…

How did this happen…?

Then, it was the smell of blood, so sudden and overwhelming that it made him sick to the stomach. It was a smell he’d recognize anywhere: thick, coppery, and mingled with the petrichor of cooling asphalt. Dana really didn’t want to get any closer, especially since he was holding, but his legs seemed to move of their own accord. Step by step, they brought him closer and closer to the police line, and then, he saw her.

A flash of powder pink, mauve, then crimson. Beneath the body, the blood looked nearly black in the moonlight, oily and glistening like a puddle of tar. Dana felt the breath catch in his throat, but there he stood. Frozen. Watching. He thought he recognized her from somewhere, but… no, he knew he did.

As bruised and bloodied as the rest of her was, the girl’s face appeared strangely unmarred. In fact, if it weren’t for her wide, glassy eyes staring sightlessly up at the sky, one could even mistake the whole thing for a film set, and she the tragic heroine slain before her time.

Dana didn’t stick around for long after that. He left before the coroner showed up to take her away, but the experience had left him a little out of sorts, which was a nice way of saying it fucked him up. That probably explained why he was currently squared up inside a bathroom stall at the back of The Pit, snorting a bump of coke off the back of his hand.

The stinging sensation he feels at the back of his throat is a welcome one. That meant that it was working, that in about five minutes or so, he wasn’t going to feel like complete shit anymore. Dana doesn’t think of himself as an addict, of course. He can go without it, he can stop thinking about it. He just needs a pick-me-up every now and again.

Job done, he emerges from the bathroom stall to inspect his reflection in one of the grimy, mildew-stained mirrors. Whatever’s left on his nose he swipes off with a finger and rubs onto his gums. Waste not, want not, as the saying goes.

So he washes his hands ( because of course he washes his hands. What is he, an animal? ), a little extra pep in his step, and saunters out of the men’s room just in time to bump into Logan and the much larger figure next to him. Dana knew their names and faces, though not much else. Big Mac was another dealer this side of Oceanside. Which meant he didn’t want to piss him off. And Logan was, well, a bouncer here at The Pit. So he probably didn’t want to piss him off either, seeing as how this was one of the only places he could unwind after spending an entire day repeating the same three-word phrase over and over again because poor Molly Ringwald couldn’t get her lines straight.

He doesn’t give them much more than a nod of acknowledgement before making a beeline straight for the bar. Jed and Robin were tending the bar as usual, and Darcy was there as well. He and the baggie in his jacket were going to have a little talk with her later on.

“Busy night, huh? Looks like you guys have your work cut out for you.” He slides an elbow across the lacquered surface of the countertop, letting his temple come to a rest against his fist. The corner of his lips quirk up into a roguish smirk as he speaks. “I’ll take two shots and a Sazerac, Jed. That’s if you’re not too busy staring at Lolls over there, anyway.”

Robin slid over his drinks and went off to satisfy the growing patrons of the bar like only she could. Robin was a beautiful creature of the night, she belonged within that darkness, pouring drinks and making fantastic rhythm with the glasses as if she was using a drum kit. Kip knocked back his whiskey and slammed the rim of the shot glass down onto the counter top; that one was for Nikki. He didn’t know her well, maybe enough to say hi and hold a pleasant conversation. She hadn’t been there that long...or maybe she had he didn’t really know. Time drifted through Oceanside like a soft river current; it was moving forward but you couldn’t really tell. As his eyes scanned the bar, he noted the usual suspects, in their usual places at their usual time. Friday night in the Pit was a messy affair. If you weren't an unsigned act trying to get on the bill for Sunday’s blowout, you were probably a nine to fiver who only has this one night to let loose before you were back at work. It was an eclectic group of misfits, denim, leather, animal print and glitter went as far as an eye could see. Strange fucking place but a home for the out of place.

Speaking of; as his gaze returned to the bar he noted the familiar curves of one Lolly Laarman arriving with yet another poor Wall Street wannabe that didn’t belong there. Lolly held a special place in Kip’s heart. They had arrived in the neighbourhood around the same time and naturally drifted together but they hailed from two different worlds and their paths would constantly diverge, halting any chance of anything real. This was a place for fakes after all and a tangible feeling for someone else was surely improbable near impossible. Still, he knew what was under the clothes and beneath the skin; Lolly was damn near perfect and there was something wrong with that level of perfection; it wouldn’t stay that clean forever. He offered her a courteous raise of his glass as she charmed this nights prey.

If there was a God, KVC would tell him to bless poor Jed. The handsome bartender was staring at the brunette like a lovesick puppy and a smirk crossed the wrestlers face. He knew that she was not the type of storm you just drove straight into, the question was if Jed knew. In what felt like seconds, the swarm of heathens and Hollywood dreamers had doubled in size as more and more of Bibgy’s monsters made their way to the bar and began chipping away at Lolly's fellas pinstripe Armor.

Two hands on his shoulders immediately put Kip on edge as a sharp pain shot down his back like a lightning bolt . There was a time honoured tradition in wrestling; protect the business. The outcomes may have been predetermined but the hazards and the hard cases were real. If someone challenged you in a bar, you had to stick up for the business and kick their ass. Kip had done it many times as a lot of folk had made the foolhardy mistake of thinking he was too pretty to be tough. As he turned his head, he caught sight of the man who had put their hands on him and he relaxed; Bennett was a lot...A LOT but he was a good enough kid though, too much too soon was a good analogy to sum him up. ”Bennett, if you ever do that to me again I’ll take a whiskey bottle from that bar and shove it up your ass sideways” Kip readily took the latest shot that had been put in front of him thanks to the owner of the Palace and smiled. ”I literally just got off the plane”

A few more seconds passed and Darcy had all but managed to destroy what was left of the yuppie’s soul and watched with a perverted glee as the enigma that was Rig had him by his collar and dragged him out of the bar. Of course everyone had burst into a fit of laughter as more shots courtesy of the lovey Robin found their way in front of the crowd. ”That was about what? Seven minutes, that’s almost a new record. Well done Darce” Kip loved Darcy, she was fun to be around and was passionate about everything. Whenever he worked locally, she’d be in the front row cheering him on, usually ready with the party favours in hand. Speaking of party favours, the growing group was soon joined by Logan, a local bouncer and coke head who was harmless and loveable in his own kind of way. ”Darling Lolly brought him, sooner or later these guys are gonna start catching onto your plan Lolls”

The pain in his back had yet to subside and Kip was starting to struggle. Movement had been helping so he decided to climb off of the stool he had claimed as his own and stretched himself upright. He reached into his pocket and popped a few more pills, washing them down with another shot as Bea saddled up next to him. ”If it’s an screaming orgasm you want, Bea, give me five minutes of your time and I’ll pay for the pizza afterward.I could really do with a nurse tonight”

Business was good. Business was popping. If you had money in your pockets, the Treasure Chest was the place to be on Friday nights. The room was full of a smoky haze, the sound of men and women getting their pleasures alike. Two smaller stages flanked a larger one in the center where each main event took place for the night. Bright lights flooded the floor, focused on the center of the stage where a pole connected to the ceiling. Chairs scattered about and around the stages, far enough to not accost the ladies but just close enough to smell the sweat. Only a few lucky VIPs had access to the benches curved around the main stage.

It was where every man and woman came to slink away from the stress of their life- whether it be their wives, jobs, children. Any and all who entered the front door were allowed just a moment to forget all their worries. Stress melted away to taboo pleasures- whether the customers stayed to their seats to view the events, or they paid extra for a solo performance in the back.

Tonight was like no other weekend. Bodies filled seats, waitresses bustled about filling orders, the smoke of burning nicotine clouding the air. Several ladies had already had their chance at being part of the night's main event. The smell of sex tainted the back rooms as special favors were purchased and happy customers well on their way out of the door, their pleasure sated for the night.

The click of the speakers interrupted boozed laughter and Touch Me soon began to play. It was the signature song of one miss Kitty, a fairly fresh face to Treasure Chest. The blonde sauntered onto the stage and out into the blinding lights. Her hair was fussed and in a mess, a deep red smirk spread across her face as her adrenaline began to spike. This was what paid for her brand new luxuries. This paid for her car, her studio apartment, her designer labels. Dancing was what she loved to do- this was her passion. Did she love having men put their hands wherever they wanted as they tried to stuff bills down her barely there panties? Not particularly. But every job has its disadvantages- right?

As her song came to an end, just like the clothes on her body, her night was over. She was very good at talking her way out of the special favor rooms. All she wanted was to put on some normal, full body covering clothes and head home. Yet, that wouldn't be the case tonight. Adrenaline was at an all time high as she counted the wads of bills in her hands. It had been the largest turn out she had ever seen since starting this business. And so, to celebrate, Katherine slipped on a barely there pink dress and made her way out of the building with several of her work friends. It wasn't long until they made their way to the other happening spot in Oceanside- the Pit.

All it took was one glance from Rig to confirm he had seen the group of five strippers. With a wink and a quick kiss on the cheek from Kit, she gave the large man a beaming grin before making her way into the establishment. Sure, the girls stood out like sore thumbs in this place- but where was the fun in being ordinary? And not to mention the fact that Katherine definitely was not of the drinking age to be allowed at the Pit. But who really ever checked the IDs of strippers? Certainly not Rig.

Not like she was going to be doing much drinking. All Kit wanted to do was dance and not be groped by somebody who wanted to pay his way into her panties. But first- water was a necessity. While the other girls made their way to a back table, the blonde walked up to the bar and leaned across it, giving Jed her famous bright grin. Her southern accent was strong as she spoke. "Hey there, darlin. Can you fix me up a glass of water please?"

"Why is it we're here again, sweets?"

Much to Lolly's annoyance, Mr. Rhodes' feelings of apprehension towards their surroundings seemed to render him immune to her charms. Maybe that drink wasn't looking so inevitable after all. She shifted in her seat for a second, eyes drifting away from her companion slightly to meet a familiar gaze - Kip. Huh. She could’ve sworn he was in Japan the last time she’d asked after him. Obviously not. Although if anyone asked she would deny it, Lolly certainly had a soft spot for the boxer. He had known her way back when she was broken-hearted, helpless little Dolores, and he had helped her settle into her new life in LA in more ways than one. Perhaps they had at one point stood a chance at being a proper 'item', as the tabloids would surely call it, but that time had long since passed now. Still, she made a mental note to ask him about his trip later - maybe offer to relieve some of the tension she couldn't help but notice in the way he sat.

Beside him, she recognised Bennett. Him and his wandering eye. She certainly wasn't blind to his charms, and got along with him well - most of the time. But she was not particularly interested in being another notch on his belt, so had grown used to rebutting his flirtatious attempts at impressing her into his bed with a steady stream of eye rolls and witty comebacks thrown his way. She had made strict rules with herself when it came to mixing pleasure and friendship right from day one, and had no intentions of breaking them. Kip had been the exception, of course.

A devilish smirk graced her features as she subtly gestured to the gentleman beside her with a brief flicker of her eyes, shooting a wink towards the pair. Those that knew her were by now used to her usual shenanigans with the wealthier members of the opposite sex. Usually she could even swindle a few drinks for them, too, if she played her cards right. However, that was not looking so likely with this guy. Instead of making her irritation towards Mr Rhodes obvious, though, she simply offered him a soft, breathy laugh.

"I know some people here." She offered vaguely before settling back slightly in her stool.

As if on cue, she picked up on a strangely familiar voice seemingly addressing the pair of them. Now where had she heard that voice before? Following Mr Rhodes’ now-aggravated gaze, Lilly’s eyes travelled up from a practiced hand polishing a glass to a set of handsome features on a face that almost caused her to jolt in her seat.

It had to be him, didn’t it? The stranger she had drunkenly poured her heart out to. More than once. The two of them had seemed to come to an understanding at the time - no matter how intimate their conversations at the various parties they had bumped into each other at were, they each had never made an effort to learn the other’s name. At least, she never had. She was far more comfortable in the knowledge that a stranger with no name knew such personal information about her, rather than someone she knew. Someone she could put a label on. And she despised labels.

“Well, hello, stranger.” Her words came out far calmer than her whirring mind felt like, a playful smirk lighting up her features as Lolly regarded the nameless man behind the bar. After a second, her attention once again diverted to Mr Rhodes.

“He’s right, you know. You gotta relax, sugar.” She simpered.

Her attempts of flattery were now being met with annoyed huffs, however, as Mr. Rhodes checked his watch for what seemed like the thousandth time. Fuck this. Swivelling in her stool, Lolly leaned on her elbows over the bar to once again meet the eyes of the bartender.

“I didn’t know you worked here... suppose I wouldn’t, though.”

“Who’s this, Lols?”

Lolly didn’t even have to see the face that voice belonged to to know who it was that was asking - the sultry tone was answer enough. Robin Turner. A wicked smile pulled at the corners of her lips as she began absent-mindedly playing with Mr Rhodes’ tie. He probably believed it was her doting on him, judging by the flush spreading across his cheeks, but any onlooker would be able to recognise a huntress playing with her prey if they happened to even take a mere glance at them.

“Hubby material indeed. What do you reckon, Dave, darlin’? Wanna put a ring on it?” She made a show of displaying her empty ring finger to her now-terrified new pet. She reckoned he would be making his exit within the next 5 minutes.

She was about to address the guy behind the bar again, perhaps finally ask him his name, when she felt an arm draped around her shoulders. Where she otherwise would’ve recoiled from the unexpected embrace, Lolly relaxed into it automatically - the familiar smell of Darcy causing her to grin. Of course she was here.

“You lookin’ to catch flies, Jed?” Jed. So his name was Jed.

“Jed, huh? So the mystery man has a name.” She let out a soft laugh as she let Darcy kiss her cheek. The flirtations between the two of them was something she was by far used to, and she welcomed the familiarity of the exchange - although her gaze remained fixed on Jed, eyes drifting lazily over him as she fit the new revelation of his name to the man she saw before her.

Such thoughts didn't have a chance of lasting long, however, as Darcy began to holler at Mr Rhodes from her new spot leaning against Lolly. Typical. She wasn't too upset as she watched the gentleman as he was escorted out, from clearly he wasn't looking to offer her any drinks, however that didn't stop her from shooting a glare at her roommate.

"Nice one, Darcy. Didn't even give him a chance." She huffed as her shoulders sagged, lips pouting slightly. Her icy demeanour soon began to warm, however, as the shots were lined up before them.

"Christ, he was boring, though." She smirked as she tossed the drink back smoothly, welcoming the familiar warmth as it spread from her throat to her head. It really had been too long since she had let loose like this. That was a total lie. It had only been a few days, actually, but it had felt like a century as it always seemed to in Oceanside.

Lolly registered a question thrown in their direction, and turned slightly in her chair to recognise Logan Prescott joining their growing group. A small smile graced her lips, and she even had the courtesy to blush as if the mentioned 'stiff' had not very clearly been her companion. She liked Logan, but didn't know him very well. For a fleeting moment, she stupidly clung to the hope that he was unaware of her reputation in Oceanside. Obviously, Kip had to blow her cover.

"You'd love that, wouldn't you, Kip?" She shot a wink his way, her hair flying as she whirled to address him. "And anyway, I have no idea what plan you're talking about." The challenging look in her eyes beneath her fluttering lashes suggested otherwise. Who knew, though, with Lolly?

And just like that, Jed’s confidence was caught in a bullet storm. What he considered a proper initiation at flirting slowly became a punching bag to the rest of the familiar patrons, especially one in particular: Darcy. He was hit and shot at all angles, from unknown origins, but with all sorts of tasks that actually put him to work. Being busy was supposed to be good, but not at a time where he wanted to woo his way into the tight, white dress of the most beautiful of bar guests.

Robin made her interruption first, and Jed didn’t know where to pinpoint her intentions. Whether it was just her usual work rotations behind the bar, or a calculated intrusion to prevent Jed from flirting further. Jed didn’t think Robin to be the jealous type, though their history might’ve stirred something in the moment. Jed sighed, and before he could get a word in, Darcy’s arm was already hanging loosely around the only person he cared to talk to in the moment.

"You lookin' to catch flies, Jed?"

He was ready to throw a clever remark her way after a loud scoff, but her voice overpowered his with a request for four shots. Jed shook his head in annoyance, slinging his rag over his shoulder and turning around to fetch the liquors and shot glasses behind him.

“Jed, huh? So the mystery man has a name.”

Jed made sure he was flashy with his pours and his body was angled in a stance that made his shoulders more broad and his arms a little more flexed. He glanced over his shoulder at her, the flashing lights around them catching his crystalline eyes to reveal his careful examination over her appearance. He smirked at her and poured without looking.

Turning back to reorganize the liquors and situate the shots, he rolled his eyes about Darcy. By now, Robin and Jed were confident in how loud their whispering shit-talk should be for the patrons to not overhear, but he didn’t care if Darcy caught it, even if it was over her loud, obnoxious voice. “I should just piss in her glass; she’d probably think it’s liquor anyway. Fuckin’ drunk.”

In the meantime, Darcy was able to get the old stiff out of his way to better access a flirtatious angle at her. On the contrary, Darcy most likely did it for her own benefit—the way she hung all over her. He placed the glasses in front of the pair: the gorgeous brunette and the rowdy regular. Jed wasn’t one to give up, though. He smirked at her once more, ready to butt in with something witty, but yet another intervening voice came about accompanied by another arm-wrapping nonchalance.

Another sigh, another turn, another pour, and the shot was placed in front of Logan: a regular face to frequent the Pit, even outside of his shifts at their front door, with all his scandalous mystery that combined with his crave for attention. Alone, Jed actually enjoyed his conversation, but in a setting like this, Jed had little hope for a normal night.

“I’ll take two shots and a Sazerac, Jed. That’s if you’re not too busy staring at Lolls over there, anyway.”

Lolls. That was her name. Perhaps short for something, but the disappointment came regardless. Keeping their names a secret was sort of a turn on for Jed, another flirting tactic he was banking on until the sudden intrusions ruined it all. “Yeah, yeah, yeah. Coming right up.” His voice became a mumbling decrescendo of annoyance as he turned to pour and then 180’d again to place the drinks in front of Dana. He leaned in to whisper to him, “How come I’ve never seen her here before. How does everyone seem to know her? Listen, you gotta fill me in.”

"Hey there, darlin. Can you fix me up a glass of water please?"

Katherine Scott. Now she was a sight for sore eyes, not just because she had a rockin’ body from all the dancing she does, but because she didn’t come charging with ridicule for Jed and his obvious goo-goo eyes he had for Lolls. Jed smirked at her, “Of course, sweetheart. Coming right up.” He poured fast and placed the icy glass of cold water in front of her.

A moment to breathe was finally present, and Jed figured the best option was just to avoid Lolls for now to save himself from Darcy’s behavior. Plus, who knew what she was going to bring out in Logan with how eccentrically loud she was. Jed flicked his head to Katherine, that way she knew he was talking to her, but also because it was a little flirty, “So what, you come in drunk already or are you one of the weird ones that likes to stay sober at the bar?” He smiled, teasingly.

Darcy had to practically ignore the sarcasm dripping off Lolly as she chastised her for running her "date" off. In record time, might she add. Kip wasn't lying about that. Though the fun, light mood of it was brought almost crashing down on poor Darc as she listened to Jed continue on like the stick in the mud he was. Passing me piss? Like he truly thought I wasn't gonna hear him, psht... She silently wondered if she were to explain to him that that wasn't the worse thing she's put inside her body. He'd probably reel from the thought and mention something along the lines of "I knew it..." It didn't take a particular type of person to catch on to the fact that Jed had a massive hard-on for Lolly. Shit, there wasn't a person in this bar who didn't. Darcy included. But she would be damned if she didn't at least give the guy a hard time. For shits and giggles of course. Hell, she might even set 'em up on a date if he really wanted it. Not like Lolls can't set her own shit up, but c'mon, where's the fun in doing it for yourself?

With Logan's arm thrown around her own shoulder she couldn't help leaning into the warmth he provided as she downed another shot before shimmying down the bar top and into Kip's personal space, flashing Bea a wide, flirty and friendly smile, side eyeing the way he reacted to Benny's "attack" on him and the way he flinched in response. She made a note to check up on him in private, calling out to him in that sing-song voice of hers that lets those in the surrounding area that the liquor has begun to take effect, "Kiiiiiip babe~ make sure to come find me before ya leave! I'm thinking having a session at the house is needed!" If nothing else than to ensure that his little injury was just something superficial and not something that would be career threatening. Maybe enjoy that pizza he was talking about with some painkillers... among other things that Dana would be able to provide.

It didn't take her long to find Dana, towering above her in all his glory. "D~!" and that was all the warning she gave before launching herself onto him, throwing her arms around his neck and bringing him down to her level so she could lay a giant squeeze on him. The Sazerac in his hands nearly spilling onto the already sticky, dark floors at the movement. "You got anything delicious for us tonight~" she all but purred in his ears. However, before he got a chance to properly respond to the bouncing blonde, she had called out to Robin, asking for her to pass her a beer, "Something to wrap my lips around for a bit," she teased with a wink.

As she released Dana to take the first, cold sip from the bottle her eyes scanned the room once over. Smiling into her drink at seeing all the familiar faces. Most of whom she got along swimmingly with. Then others, like Jed - tonight - that wanted her to choke on her drink. But it was one specific tuft of unruly and matted black hair, and those godawful circular shades that stood out above everything else. And it was in that moment that her good time high began to falter.

The lineup of glasses were placed in front of her and she wasted no time in downing the first two shots. At the sound of her name, she turned to her head to see which of the familiar Pit patrons was talking to her. She had a bad habit of getting tunnel vision whenever she walked into a room. Bea did whatever it was she was going to do, and then she would talk to her friends. She had interrupted many private conversations that way, but it didn't stop her from doing the same thing over and over again.

She grinned at Kip. She was surprised to him. She thought he was still in Japan. Either way, he was a welcome sight. She wrapped an arm around his waist in a side hug before pulling away. "Kip! You know all I need is a cigarette, but it's nice to know that your manners are still intact. Wasn't sure that they would survive the trip. And I'd take you up on your offer, but you look like you'd pass out on me. When did you get back?" She asked. They should have a welcome back party for him. Although it could be a Tuesday and her friends would be willing to party, with or without a reason.

When Darcy popped in, Bea returned her grin with one of her own, and a small wave. They weren't super close, but they ran in the same circles and she was nice enough. She wondered why they weren't closer, when Darcy vanished just as quickly as she appeared. That was why. Bea was never fast enough to get a word in before she bounced off to the next person.

Grabbing her drink, Bea took a moment to truly look around the bar. Seeing two friends in a few seconds made her wonder who else was here tonight. Her dark eyes scanned the room, but one face made her do a double take. The bar was dark, and she couldn't quite see her entire face. Was that Brandy Valentine? You know, the girl from the...supermarket. She buys a lot of cucumbers. Bea slammed her shot back at the same time that she saw the entirety of Brandy's face and got her proof. Spitting out her drink, she started coughing as some of the liquor went down the wrong pipe. "Holy shit!" She exclaimed in her raspy voice. She went to point out the celebrity to Kip when she realized that her drink wasn't on the floor. It was on a person.

A guy with greasy looking black hair was taking off his glasses to wipe off his face. All the cream in the drink was starting to curdle in his hair, dripping onto his shirt in clumps. Bea was frozen in horror, unsure if she should run to get napkins, or just reach in with her hand to help clean the poor guy off. "I am so sorry. I am so so so sorry. Oh my god, I had no idea you were right there and, shit, you need napkins." She scanned the bar top to see if there were a few laying around within reach.

"You're one of Darcy's friends, aren't you?" He asked, coldly.

"What? Uh, yeah I guess." She leaned over the bar and snagged some tiny cocktail napkins, handing them over. The stranger slapped them out of her hand a second later. "What's your deal? I'm trying to help you!"

"Darcy told you to do that, right? Spit on me like I'm trash? Then pretend it was an accident!"

Bea blinked once. Confusion. Twice. Pissed. "Doesn't the Pit have a no jackass policy? So how'd you manage to slither your way in here? I fucking apologized! It was an accident, but now I'm wishing I had done it on purpose." She grabbed her last remaining shot off the bar and pushed her way through the crowd. She didn't want to spend another second by that jerk. He was effectively ruining her night. She could always find Kip later and finish the conversation. Besides, she wanted to see if she could get a better look at Brandy. Hell, she might even talk to her...as soon as she thought of something to say.

There was always a certain vibe when stepping into a local establishment as an outsider - like introducing a new specimen into an ecosystem there were risks involved. Brandy could tell right away that a place like this, a place she might as well have been a unicorn for her rarely she was in a local dive joint such as this, that she was out of her element. In the dance clubs with reputations for their lines and their overpriced drinks and the buffet of hairspray and powder in any given bathroom, Brandy would've been a hot commodity. Not quite a star of the Hollywood silver screen but more glamorous than the dreamers and the day shift workers who needed to unwind after a day of insider trading or hocking foreign wares at marked up prices. But here everyone knew each other's name. The guy behind the bar was Sam and every local girl was Diane. Brandy? She wasn't Carla or Cliff or even Norm. No, she was an extra.

Right now the vibe was palpable. Dozen conversations going on, old friends discussing old habits, new arrivals ordering old favorites, patrons stepping out of the bathroom looking guilty as if people were ignorant of the fact that they weren't going there to take a piss. Well, not exclusively anyway. There was something about a local pit, the lack of an obnoxiously loud dance floor, the smell of dried waste and human misery, the last call for dreamers and believers to drown their daily failures in a glass of amber and ice while working up the courage to get back out there and make it happen. That was ultimately the vibe at a place like this compared to the tiring, boring clubs in the cities. Here, the customers came back out of a sense of loyalty, camaraderie, to be lifted up and encouraged, a truly inspiring tale of humanity; out there, in big city clubs, it's less about supporting local businesses so much as it is supporting individual desires.

And here was Brandy Valentine, a tourist leaving her little world and entering theirs. Brandy was certain no fewer than a dozen people holding their drinks or wiping their nose on the sly would give anything to walk a day in the sphere of familiarity Brandy had; the ironic thing being they absolutely could if they got rid of their morals and compromised what counted for integrity. Brandy was hardly anyone special, just someone who saw a window of opportunity and decided to break a door. But when morals were all the separated her from them, it was good that they kept theirs. That's why they came to a place like this, drinking shots and pining lots, because no matter what happened out there in the world, this place was welcoming.

Brandy didn't know if she belonged, but sooner or later someone was going to recognize her, be awkward about it, and that would be that. It wasn't so bad, being recognized, but this was their place, not hers. She was the intruder. The tourist. People she could only assume were locals were talking or getting hit on. The last time Brandy was here was...months ago and she had one drink and walked out for no other reason than it was one in the afternoon and drinking while the sun was up was a kind of depressing she didn't want to deal with. She would order a drink in due time, but her goal was near the back of the bar. A place like this having nothing playing from the juke was a cardinal sin.

She was sauntering her way through the bar, ears open to all manner of things. Someone ordering water at a bar. Something about contractors. This and that about a guy named Jed - and not the Clampett variety. Screaming Orgasms on the house. As she approached the jukebox, the sound of someone doing a spit take tickled the ears. Turning her head, she saw it. An unfortunate accident that could explode into something beyond control. Fortunately the one who had done the spit take had the good sense to vacate the scene and for a second Brandy was sure their eyes locked. The spitter seemed like she wanted to look Brandy's way while Brandy was just observing in general. Still, it didn't stop Brandy from cracking a smile down the way before turning back to the jukebox.

As the music started to play, so too did Brandy, placing her hands on the top of the jukebox and moving her body in tune and time to the intro rhythms. As the voice of Laura Branigan started to play, Brandy mouthed the words right along. "Oh, the night...is my world. City light..painted girl...In the day...nothing matters...it's the night..time that matters..."

It might not have been a dance club kinda place, but that wasn't going to stop Brandy from putting her mark on the mood of the place, even if only for as long as she danced alone by the jukebox as the night continued around her.

It was later into the night and the scene at The Pit was really coming alive. Well, it was coming alive like a creature crawling out of a swamp… like a corpse rising from the grave to embark on it’s unlife. Coming alive in a way that only a place like the Pit could. The crowd was keeping Jed and Robin busy with their various and copious drink orders.

Darcy requested some shots, stating that she was going to need them. “Coming right up, Dee.” Robin replied, grabbing the bottom shelf tequila. Only the best for the regular Pit denizens. “Shots up for Darcy and Logan” She called out, placing the shot glasses on the bar after Logan had requested some as well.

Bea ordered a Screaming Orgasm and Robin was about to make a witty remark before Kip beat her to the punchline. She knew there was a reason that she took a liking to that one. “Here’s an orgasm you won’t have to fake, babes. Enjoy it.” Robin said with a wink as she served the drink up.

Meanwhile, some southern belle attempted to flirtatiously order a water, of all things, from Jed. “Daring… aren’t we?” Robin said under her breath, but also not caring all too much if she was heard. Life was too short to give a shit about people overhearing your shit talk.

Lolly’s gentleman caller left the bar in record timing thanks to Darcy’s shenanigans. Ah yes, just another night at the Pit. Jed mentioned pissing in Dee’s glass and Robin chuckled. “Ehh, it’d probably taste better than our tequila, to be fair.” As if on cue, Darcy saddled up to the bar again, this time ordering a beer to wrap her lips around. “Coming right up, though I’m sure there’s plenty of other fun things you could find for them lips, sweets.” Robin jested, sliding the brown bottle down the bar to Darcy.

Just when she thought the night couldn’t get more lively, Bea spit up her orgasm on some greasy rando. Somehow, she managed to make the dude’s hair look even worse. Robin’s attention from the scene was broken by the sudden blast of music from the jukebox. People hardly ever actually put money in that thing to change the songs when their scarce coin was preferably spent buying bottom of the barrel booze. Some newcomer, at least she seemed new, was sensually dancing at the machine. “Looks like it’s about time for my smoke break, Jed.” Or a dance break. Or both. Robin tossed the towel she was using to wipe the bar down in a bucket and made her leave from behind the bar.

The moment when drops of beer splattered on his magazine was the moment Louis knew he was done here. There were other places around to grab dinner on a Friday night where he had less odds of getting punched in the face. Even if part of him did want to watch things go down, growing up in Detroit had taught him that hanging around fights was a bad habit to get into. He gave Robin some money to close out his tab and got up from his seat to stretch his legs and look around the pit for a little bit before leaving. Bennett was busy with other matters at the moment, and Louis could always leave a voicemail for him if he wanted to get in touch later.

He took a look at the Jukebox only to see someone was already at it, and that she was already becoming the center of attention. Louis didn’t know Brandy, but she had a presence about her. Not exactly regal, but this was Oceanside, the place could be a museum of grit and grime; the Pit would be it’s centerpiece. If Bigby was the old king ruling over the place, then Brandy was the closest thing to Oceanside’s own princess, young, adventurous, and highly sought-after. This definitely wasn’t the place for fairy tale romances either, and Louis stopped by only to see how long the song had left on the Jukebox. He thought about putting something else on but didn’t want to ruin the vibe, and just decided that it was best to get out of here. There was some business to finish at home, some unfinished songs and a voicemail from a guy name Brett that he had to return. Whoever Brett was, he wasn’t very fortcoming about his background, but he thought that Louis’ equipment rental business could go somewhere and was looking to possibly invest. Sure, Louis was skeptical, but he also knew how cool it would be to get his hands on one of those new Kurzweil keyboards. As he left the Pit Louis realized he left his magazine and the business card he’d been using as a bookmark on the countertop, the business card with the ugly design that he used before he made separate ones for musical gigs and his rental business. That one was a bit of mess with all of the stuff on it, but at least it was thorough.
