Don't worry, it was mostly a joke. I was referring to the fact that I personally tend to be rather blunt when I offer advice. I think that everyone here has already thoroughly discussed this topic though and that includes every point that I'd want to make myself. ]

Bango did a good job compiling it all too.

@Odin
Well Odin we never did roleplay at any point together, at least from what I think back on right now so there is that as supposed neutral ground.

I feel I am owed the same chances as everyone as I feel everytime I have tried to garner interest for myself I get shafted with either little partner interest or ghosters as a whole. And the reason the interest checks were not found is because I had them deleted as no one was biting into them as I had been bumping them up still trying to find interest but none came and I stopped at some point fed up.

I feel people need to understand my side of things and have a open mind instead of being like everyone else before and mob on me and I push back all because I tire of having my side of things whenever I express I am unhappy about something to be mobbed on and then a desire to have it put back in like a chest or closet.

I just want my side to be seen with an open mind and I want the same chances as everyone else when it comes to RP threads and interest without feeling like being constantly passed up on and shafted time and time again, I wonder if no one gets that feeling and the emotions that spur from that.

And ghosters shouldn't be an indicate of me doing something wrong but also look at them too, they shouldn't get off scott-free at all either. They were the ones reaching out and expressed interest, I feel they are owed to hold up their end of the bargain when it comes to expressing and reaching out in a roleplay scope it seems.

We'll hang ghosters by their toes then. Does that make you feel better?

Success for me as a GM means that everyone has fun no matter how long it lasts.

I feel like that's generally the best measure of success. If it lasts two pages and everyone had a good time or if it lasts four threads. There's success and then there's like legendary success.

If everyone had a good time that's a success. If it's two years later and youre still talking about the RP with its participants that's legendary. It's a nice thing to hope for but it wouldn't be legendary if it were common.

Something else I'd like to say that didn't get hammered home enough in my other post is that sometimes finishing an RP just isn't fun. You feel accomplished when it happens but it can be a drag to get that far. You're not always smiling and hugging your RP buddies, sometimes you're slouching in your chair, vodka in one hand and an empty mug in the other, thinking "Glad that's over!"

If it is a chore to finish a RP, shouldn't you call it quits before it gets to that point? If you aren't having fun and are just doing it to be a completionist it just seems weird to me. Sometimes the best thing you can to do is pull the plug and move on.

"what does success mean for me as a GM/RPer"

Because I'm petty, I'm going to answer my own question, I'm also going to quantify my answer as I feel that makes it a bit more practical.

As player success is completing a character sheet that I am happy with.

I consider it a bonus and view an RP as extremely successful as a player if I manage to make one post in character before said RP dies.

Although I don't GM, if I did GM I would consider a group RP as successful if I got three players to submit character sheets. If each of my three players posted once before my RP died, I would consider my RP to be extremely successful.

Finally, although I will never 1 x 1, if I did 1 x 1, I would consider it a massive success if one person expressed interest in my ideas. Getting a 1 x 1 to the planning stage would be even more of a success and getting one post each into a 1 x 1 would in my book lead me to consider it successful.

I know this is a side thing and all, but I wonder is it bad for me to feel what I feel and express given my experiences?
Considering every time I express the frustration I am feeling it seems like at first no one gets it. It's hard for me to feel like the accomplishment of a RP being started let alone of it being maintained when there is little to no interest for my IC and coupled with the feeling of being left behind at the “starting gates” while others are galloping it just adds more frustration you know?

That is just called life, my friend. Get used to it. You aren't owed anything, nor are you the only one in your situation.

It's funny because it's so easy to think that other people are having a much easier time than you. The reason for that is generally--unless you're specifically looking for it--you only ever see people's successes (RPs that are active/alive long enough for you to notice), whereas their failures (so to speak) are quickly swallowed by newer, more active threads, as they are pushed further and further back through numerous pages.

So yeah, this idea that "everyone else is galloping," is just a result of you not paying individual attention to every attempt that other users on this site have made to get something going. Plus, other aspects of that just happen behind the scenes (On discord, in PMs, etc) so there's not even any chance for you to see it.

Essentially, if you're only looking for peoples' successes, that's the only thing you're going to see.

Dude, you're responsible for making this goddamn thread that blew past 5 pages in the span of 6 hours to humor this chap.

That's a fucking achievement right there.

I do not know how it is funny when I see people in RP's and they are having a much easier time with it than I and not hitting the hurdles and then more hurdles. I am not looking for their successes and I don't see their failures at all, just success after success and it is frustrating to just see that knowing whatever I was doing was not working at all like them.

So the idea of “everyone else galloping” wasn't far-fetched to me at all, it just seemed like how I have seen it and everyone else not hitting those same problems such as myself and my case.

I would like to do more than just humor dude. I don't think you respond well to the feedback Reborn but the issues you have with RPing are pretty common, neigh universal really, issues.

There are folks here I don't think I can hang with writing wise and I've been writing since high school.
Ive had plenty of Interest Checks that never panned out and I've joined plenty of interesting Interest Checks that got 4-5 people to join and then either never started or died in a page or two.

The idea of having a "Why Is No One Joining My RPs" or "Why Can't I Join Any RPs" or "Why Do All My RPs Die" thread is to let folks know it's not just them. Some of the Site Staff here are some of the best writers here (and Apathy) and they still have RPs that die out all the time.

Why learn how to play the guitar? why learn how to draw? Why play ultra-difficult videogames? Why pursue a hobby you will never perfect when easier alternatives exist?

Because nothing worth doing comes easy.

For me, completing my Danganronpa RP was a very rewarding experience. But it's not something I recommend for everyone. I'm not sure I'll run another RP like that any time soon, not for four years anyway, haha!

I suppose around the 2 year mark there was a lot of drama and it was tempting to pull the plug because things were getting hard. But if I did that, I never would have been able to experience all the highs that came in the third and forth years of the RP. The energy levels are lower now that there's just a few players left, but it's really fun to see how excited they are. I still keep in touch with many of the old players, and I don't think they would remember me as fondly if I pulled the plug on the RP while they were still having fun.

I only bring up that some RPs are a chore because I think a lot of people think you just start an RP, have fun, and then the end just sort of happens. But the truth is most RPs that finish require some amount of sacrifice to get to the end. You need to compromise and work with others even if you are the GM. I think there are some people who will never complete an RP because they just want to follow the fun, and that's fine.

We're all hitting those same hurdles we just usually keep it to ourselves. I was mad butt blasted when my Deadlands RP died but what are you gonna do about it? It's a hobby. There's no contract, there's no pay, if folks get busy or lose interest or just plain forget it is what it is.
