McDonalds PW when?

I see Rpg.com like an entity made up of a lot of tiny properties that cycle anything you can imagine or throw a twist at. I understand the language and I don't disagree with it much.

I think that all the SWPW needed was leadership and less being pushy about character submissions, and the fact that certain plots were small enough for a small groups to start with but cliques come fast and when I started seeing these things the PW slowly died. So if it ever happens we would need dedicated smart admins and less inequality.

I do see that it's not going to happen any time sooner or later but if it did how should it be run? Would you make it less centered on a huge open world? Restrictions? Activity levels? HP or MP?

You know a McDonalds PW wouldn't be half bad. All players want to do in PWs on this forum is sit in the corner of some lonely bar. Might as well make the bar itself interesting, or in this case, a fast food joint. Maybe you could talk to Steve, the underpaid wage slave at the counter? or maybe Tucker, who always serves extra slimy burgers at the drive through? Or maybe that Wendy girl who everyone suspects is leaking stuff to the competition, and writes some absolutely savage tweets on her break?

Preferably not at all. If we must have one, it should be kept small. Think.. "academy" or "school" sized. Not in a physical sense, but like, the subforum should be like a building that has different rooms that are all interconnected. You can't reach one end of the RP without having to travel through other parts of it, even if you only do so briefly. Activity levels need to be high, because you want a constant stream of small posts. That's sort of why you'd structure it like a PW, to begin with. IDK what HP or MP means.

@OdinHP and MP are simple point or level percentages and can be used interchangeably. It's hit points and energy points. Udkt? Lol

I suppose it's the thought of having a big active arena filled with long stories and thoughtful OOC is why I think of it.

@Galaxyfighter4 why would a PW need to be an arena? Arena roleplaying is dead as it is, it's literally just you and like, maybe 5 other people. Making it arena-based or combat-oriented would drive away a lot of people.

PW: Play 1 character until the heat death of the universe, in the same world, albite one in a large world.

RPGuild: Play any number of characters in a vast collection of roleplays, often for just a few years at a time (if even that long)

I think the approach that might actually work for a PW would be to have limits on how many RPs are going on at the same time and set endings for them.

So if I launch "Streets of Gotham" as a Character RP to end in March
Odin could launch "Justice League" to start right after, dealing with the events and changing the world. That RP ends in May.
Promise begins "Tabula Rasa" set in the days leading to the end of "Justice League" and beyond, detailing that Raas Al Ghuul guy plotting how to turn all the Justice Leagues hard work to ash.

Each subsequent RP holds the events of prior RPs as canon, all characters (unless by mutual agreement) persist.

Now, I know this is beating a dead horse but is there really a need for a PW? This year the number of Guild users has gone down... dramatically. Even a few years back, I didn't really feel the especial need for a PW... and the fact that both PWs more or less became a circle jerk more or less compounds my points. You can really just accomplish everything you can in a PW in a regular old RP thread and it doesn't really need a dedicated section.

What you are looking for, @Galaxyfighter4, is a comic book RP (Much like how that rando just wanted a Mandolorian RP). So, why don't you just go start one?

I think that's largely the problem. Without something special about it the PWs here are just another RP featuring staff and their friends, but given a special place right at the top of the list of RPs.

At some point I want to sort of review what happened with the last one. I halfway started already. 490 posts in total over 33 threads, 79 approved characters. Longest lived thread had 76 posts. 22 threads had 10 posts or less. 4 threads had 50 or more posts.

This is purely quantity measurements rather than quality of course. Might help indicate how energies could be better utilized in the future though. Maybe.

And to not sound too accusatory/hostile/whatever, I had nothing to do with SWPW but some great writers did and it's probably the hardest sort of RP to initiate, maintain and control.

There was once something called Rhydin. It was on AOL and when I come along it was in its dying day. But Rhydin was started by some hacker clique that liked rpging and user created chat rooms were all involved with the Rhydin brand. I don't know much of it because it was dying to website networks stealing its ideas and a new generation was logging on. My point is that it can be done, but it takes work and mampower.

I'm not tryna be the negative nancy here and shoot you down, but would it be worth the time and effort? Again, not really. I know the idea of a PW might sound nice, but again the number of users on the Guild has gone down and it's gonna be impossible to make something that everyone's gonna like... as stated before. It might be worth trying on a smaller-scale... like a network of interconnected threads, but I doubt it's ever going to justify its own section.

Also, can I just note that Expanding Horizons was just stupid on so many levels.

I agree with you Ghost Note. It won't happen but it would be a fine day. I remember the old guild at what you're saying. Compared to old guild activity this generation is lost lol it's the holiday season however it'll pick back up soon. Anyway we can sit here and speculate however much about whatever what but I do hope one day we will see a fantastic PW.
