What are some games you actively have enjoyed but after you've beaten it once you have no desire to return to it despite liking it a great deal?

Probably the first Mass Effect for me. Absolutely loved its writing and characters but ohhh boy was it clunky to play. I didn't have a huge problem with that the first time- because I was 100% engrossed in its storytelling- but the two times I tried to replay it I couldn't get past the first mission

Bet you're super ready for the remaster coming out, then.

Transistor. A game I thought was so good I honestly couldn't bring myself to play it again and mar the experience.

I've only 100%'d a few """modern""" games in recent memory. The Tomb Raider reboot (still trying to for it with their sequels), nearly Ghost of Tsushima (missing flags and fireflies iirc), and a few others. I tried to do a completionist run with Dragon Age: Inquisition and I still ended up missing stuff in my codex.

I have a crippling problem with open world games where I have to, like, do everything I can in an area nd the main story be damned. Like it took me about 9 hours to get out of Norway in Valhalla because I had to get everything. I don't even go for 100 percent completion in most things but something about seeing shit on a map has me like 'Well I gotta do that, it's probably important' and it never is.

Man, I didn't even want to leave Norway because the game was just so unimpressive to me from the get. I have to force myself to play that game and I couldn't peel myself away from Odyssey. Biggest disappointment of 2020... video games-wise... for me.

I don't hate it so far but someone on the dev team really fucked up the stealth and that seems like something you shouldn't fuck up in Assassin's Creed. Like fuck I didn't know people in the old days could detect me from across the goddamn map.

Most recent and best example that I could think of would be "Curse of the Obra Dinn." Great and fairly challenging mystery. No real replay value. (Solve it once, you've seen it all.)

I was hoping Valhalla would be sick as fucks but the gameplay looked pretty underwhelming early on. Hopefully they nail it next time. I'm ready for this Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla style to be done and over with anyway.

I love your optimism and I hope the same for the franchise.

I'd love for them to return to the Syndicate mechanics.

I didn't play Syndicate but I enjoyed the games prior to 3 and then Black Flag.

I'd love to see either another set in the same kind of environs as 1 or something quite different like Feudal Japan or China during the Opium Wars or maybe like colonial times India. More emphasis on Assassin and Creed, less on open combat and godlike powers.

Play Syndicate. It has the best parkour system in the entire franchise.

Takes a minute to learn properly, though.

Personally I like the RPG style of the current Creed but I know that makes me something of an outlier in the fandom but I like what I like. For me the biggest failings of the new games is Layla Hassan is undercooked but at least so far Valhalla seems to finally be having that aspect of the story matter whereas Odyssey had the coolest fucking reveal and did fuckall with it.

That said if they wanted to go back to smaller areas with more defined characters and assassination 'puzzles' like the older games I wouldn't complain.

Oh there's plenty of those.

Idk if Hand of Fate counts because of its rogue-lite nature, but after my initial spree of playing it I haven't picked it up again since. That's a fantastic game, even though I never saw it all the way through to the final boss.

West of Loathing took all the best aspects of Kingdom of Loathing and made it into a single-player RPG instead of the webgame it was, and that worked really really well. The game is unbearably funny and actually manages to be a really good RPG, all things considered.

Eternal Sonata is a really fun RPG with a hilariously convoluted plot but it suffers from "large RPG syndrome" where anything past a certain number of hours in playtime isn't anything I'm willing to go back to any time soon.

Brutal Legend is a game I played once and then never again, despite me having a fun time with its action RPG and RTS mixed gameplay.

...Am I even allowed to mention something like Akiba's Trip: Undead and Undressed without getting laughed out of the room? Because that was a funny and competent game, it's just, y'know, also total bait to get someone like me to play it.
