...Am I even allowed to mention something like Akiba's Trip: Undead and Undressed without getting laughed out of the room? Because that was a funny and competent game, it's just, y'know, also total bait to get someone like me to play it.

Akiba's Trip doesn't deserve to be as good as it is.

It's got very good beat 'em up mechanics at its core with a whimsical anime plotline that doesn't take itself too seriously with very great character dialogue throughout. I feel like Akiba's Trip looks more sus at face value then it does if you actually know the game.

Akiba's Trip was some stupid fun. The combat system reveals its flaws if you try to play on a higher difficulty. Otherwise, tearing clothes off of demons to expose them to sunlight and have them explode was an amusing concept. A shame they didn't just try to improve it for the sequel and instead just kind of... yea...

As for games I loved and will never play again, too much to count really. I pretty much beat a game and then move onto other games/my other hobbies. Mind you I'm the type that will play the bajibas out of a game before putting it on the shelf. But once I move on, I move on. I do think I have some worthy mentions though.

Cave story: This was my darling for a while and I just can't bring myself to beat it anymore. Even with all the new stuff in cave story+ I'm just so done with that world. I've killed the doctor who knows how many times, even saved Curly more than once.

A Hat in Time: This game had its flaws, but how many halfway decent 3D platformers are being made these days? People are still making content for the game, but I just can't play it all. I probably spent more time playing community levels than anything else.

abyss odyssey: 2d fighter platform rougelight. Not gunna lie, I'm typically weary of indie games that try to be unique by mashing a bunch of cool keywords together but it actually works here. I'll never master the combo system and there are too many other games to play to keep playing this one.

Azure Striker Gunvolt: There's something that really draws me into these games where they grade you based on the level, and I keep vowing to get the highest rank on every level. But I don't have the patience for it. It was a really, really fun game to play the first few times though.

Pyre: Excellent game with an ending that changes based on how you play. Even the end song changes slightly depending on your achievements and shortcomings. I can't bring myself to play it again, since I feel like I had the perfect experience.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is a really good podcast game both because of its structure as a big explorable BOTW-esque open world and because if I'm listening to a podcast I don't have to hear the fucking terrible dialog. Seriously the narration is like someone saw Seth McFarlane Rick and Morty and went "What if we did that but even worse"

What are some games you actively have enjoyed but after you've beaten it once you have no desire to return to it despite liking it a great deal?

Far Cry 4 and 5.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for a Far Cry game. FC2 and 3 are some of my favourite FPS of all time, and I can't say I didn't like 4&5 whilst playing them, but they're so benign, so average so... routine, that playing them again would be the video game equivalent of purgatory.

Metro 2033: Great game, loved the story, don't feel a desire to replay it. Actually, you know what? I'm just going to pre-empt myself and say MOST story driven single player FPS I will likely never play again in my life. Exceptions are games like Dishonoured, which is really more of a stealth game than an FPS. Moving on from these...

This War of Mine. A lot of the emotional beats lose all their punch seeing them again. Seeing a woman being dragged into a backroom to be sexually assulted by soldiers the first time is horrific, the second time I'm planning before I've entered the building to stab the soldiers and steal all their gear. Even on the harder difficulties, TWoM never challenged me skill-wise, so without the story, it's got nothing.

Phantom Doctrine: Really cool ideas, but it was too easy to optimise the fun out of the game, and not playing optimally meant more heat, more lost agents, more problems. Playing well was effectively a punishment. Learning to play well was real fun though.

Ghostrunner: Alright, sue me, technically speaking another FPS, I'd really group this into the Hotline Miami style of live fast, die fast, respawn fast. The new 'Hardcore' mode feels like banging your head against a brick wall, except once the brickwork begins to chip you realise there's a titanium layer underneath. The story is so bland, basic and barebones I'd figured it out before the third mission had ended, and the worldbuilding is interesting, but too shallow for me to care that much about it. As viscerally enjoyable as finishing a hard level was the first time, when all the game has to throw at you is 'more enemies positioned to kill you even more cheaply than before,' it's not worth it to me.

The only reason I finished Far Cry 5 was the mechanics/gameplay, I feel. The story is just too comically bad for me beyond that.

FC5 looked like a dumpster fire to me.

But then I thought 4 was a dumpster fire and think 6 likely will be too.

Not to mention that cringe ass Apocalypse FC5 shit

Oh right, I also played like, a metric ton of Meatboy and all those ultra difficult platforms that tried to be different flavors of that. Those are not games you return to, even if you enjoyed getting rekt thousands of times to the levels.

That's how I feel about Monster Hunter World right now. I'm almost done with the DLC and it's cool because stuff ramps up so much but goddamn. It gets hard. Even if you're fully specced out.

It could be because I bought Saints Row 3 Remastered but I really hope they make a Saints Row 5 one day. I hope Agents of Mayhem didn't kill them.

Conker's Bad Fur Day is a cult classic in my book. Bit dated but funny all the same.
