@Rune_Alchemist: Aight, then let me know when that's been edited to adjust for that stuff.

@Sanity43217: To answer, in order:
  • The latter.
  • Case-by-case basis. It's hard to draw a line between how things work in-universe and what's an extension of the game's systems/things for the convenience of players.
  • Yes and no? Swapping weapons and accessing skills is possible in theory (but good luck juggling weapon types), but changing clothing means... Changing clothing.
  • Nope.

I still like the idea of sabotage as a non-combat class, but since I don't feel like going for that setup and prepwork it'd involve, ended up going for something else.

I'm quite interested in the Log Horizon angle. Will probably make some kind of samurai.

@PKMNB0Y

Alright, I updated the CS. After some thought, figured I'd just go in on making her a fairly tanky support on her own with her mounts being the main offensive ability she has. Lemme know if you feel I went in the wrong direction lol

Revisions include -
Included the weapon. Decided on spear since that'd feel like, to me at least, the best weapon to use while mounted on a creature. (Still would take suggestions on that before finalizing it). Also made a mention of its probably going to be difficult to directly control more than two, and even then their combat effectiveness would probably dwindle without direct input.

Explained the buffs/Debuffs a bit

Changed her third class -

And lastly made the update to the utility class to be mining. Pretty much exactly as it says. Mine, identify, and generally know how much its worth and the quality.

@Rune_Alchemist: Seems good to go then. Accepted.

@SilverPaw: Also looks fine. Accepted.

@Sho Minazuki: Hm...

I think my biggest problem is in the conceptualization of the 'Ashigaru' class. Ashigaru, historically, were frontline infantry, which makes them existing as a sort of sniper... Odd, I guess? I also don't know how I feel about the idea of sniper classes in MMOs, as the long range only means so much when you're either forced to be in a more enclosed area or do mechanics and break lining up your shot. Class designs also usually are a bit more complex than 'prep, load, fire', and I'm not sure how much a linear gameplay style like that would keep people. In my opinion, outside of FPSes this specific subarchetype of ranged DPS is best off in strategy games or action RPGs where that range advantage can be taken full advantage of without the necessity of kiting.

The rest is probably fine though? Might need to give it another brush over later.

  • Name: Takeyama Matsuo
  • Character Name: Sefira Sylvanbelle
  • Race: Elf
  • Appearance: Blonde hair, blue eyes, light skin. Very short. Clothing is largely shades of blue.
  • Age: 21
  • Personality: Matsuo is the no-nonsense type, one to take his studies as a university student very seriously. A dilligent student who refuses to accept nonsense, it would be a shock to many of his real life friends that Matsuo is something of fan of anime, manga, and video games. Indeed, his no-nonsense attitude and short temper would make this considerably unlikely. Indeed, due to his image as an excellent student, he felt self-conscious about how his hobbies might be seen and thus endeavored to keep it a secret from his real life friends. Matsuo is an especially big fan of character design, and one of the things that drew him to Emerald Odyssey was its robust character creator. Modeling his character on his favorite archetype, the surly and petite type of tsundere, Matsuo soon became an avid player of Emerald Odyssey. While he played the game to enjoy it, that didn't mean he took kindly to players who got themselves caught in AoEs that were obviously going to drop or completely failed to pay attention to what was going on around them. That being said, the fact that he was quite accomplished as a high burst damage mage(and a healer on the side even though he hated it) quickly made him a valuable party member. Matsuo's short temper and no-nonsense attitude were remarkably suited towards the role of a petite tsundere character, making it all the more ironic now that she has become one. Indeed, becoming Sefira is bound to be a shock, and she's going to have quite a struggle from now on...
  • History: A university student who lived a relatively normal life. Matsuo's background is nothing too surprising, though pressure to succeed from his parents was likely born from their own successes. Still, he enjoyed being a successful student. That being said, he also came to realize he needed something to release stress and alleviate the pressure, and after reading a light novel titled The Elven Mage Can't Stand Me began his journey into the world of anime, manga, and video games. Spending his time balancing his studies and his hobbies, he also became interested in Emerald Odyssey and was soon an avid player. Never once did he suspect that he would become his character...
  • Classes:
    • Starlight Mage: A burst damage class, Sefira as a Starlight Mage is capable of high-power ranged spells. Possessing low HP and low defense, her main defensive options in this class is the use of a barrier spell that prevents attacks from reaching her. Her basic attacks take the form of showers of blue magical bullets. In lore, Starlight Mages utilize the stars and constellations as a template for their spells. As a result, by invoking various constellations she can reduce casting times and increase damage.
    • Sage: A straightforward healing class, built for direct healing and resurrections of injured or fallen players. Sefira absolutely hates playing healer, and only started because her friends in game needed one. Having experienced almost no enjoyment from playing healer, she thus only uses it as an absolute last resort. Now that the game is real it may become different as it is far more important to ensure others wellbeing, but she would still much rather utilize her more offensive skillset.

Yes I've had difficulties figuring out what to do with it, so I based it on how matchlock rifles were used in warfare. You'd be surprised how engaging it could be if the game allows, there's kind of a reason people like to do sniper builds.

Though I understand you have a point, but Ashigaru were just footsoldiers who used matchlock rifles, there isn't a whole lot more that can be done with it in specific to Ashigaru other than soldier utility such as first aid and small arms explosives.

@Sho Minazuki: I think that's more inherent in the type of game, isn't it? If we're using MMOs as a point of reference (at least as a starting point), then I'm not sure to what degree you can make it engaging beyond making the subarchetype consist of what are essentially physical casters (instead of mobile ranged DPS without cast times), and even then the way you've set up the class makes it really linear and hard to add anything on to. Like, if you have the core kit at some leveling point, then how do you add skills onto it? If every expansion would add something (or a few somethings) new, it becomes very difficult to given them new tools (as you yourself have stated here).

My personal recommendation would be to take the fundamental ideas of what you want in the class (as after a bit of though I think a physical caster-esque class could be interesting, designating them as 'snipers' is a bit of a misnomer) and break away from the 'box' that is the archetype you've started with. Since the class needs (new) room to grow once the RP starts, which way do you go from here?

That's my suggestion in this case.

@VitaVitaAR: Will go into a more detailed analysis once it's done, then.

We're going that hard on MMO type gameplay as the basis? I'd assumed it'd be more like real time and lean better into proper movement, rather than WoW style gameplay.

Well, I'll think of something any case. In the meantime, what about the rest then?

I mean, it is based on an MMO, and not every MMO is WoW (again, Log Horizon was also based on an MMO—Everquest, iirc?), but there are still some core design philosophies to abide by. If the class wouldn't logically exist within the game before the transition to isekai, then I'd probably fight it. Things gotta make sense in-universe, y'know?

But yeah, going over it a second time now and I think the rest is fine. No real qualms about anything else, so once we resolve this issue (and you get an image), we're probably good to go.

Overall idea's the same, but it has a bit more, and weapon classification changed to suit it.

@Sho Minazuki: Aye, game character only. I don't suspect that 'real' appearance will become relevant, but if it does, I'll probably ask for it after the fact.

@Sho Minazuki: Sketch already looks great as-is! Honestly, that much alone would've sufficed, but all the more power to you if you want to clean it up.

With this, I think our cast is... Just about set to start? Once all the forms are in place, I'll get to writing the first post to kick things off.

@Hammerman@Rune_Alchemist@SilverPaw@Sho Minazuki@VitaVitaAR: RP's begun!

I guess I'll toss this in as a followup offer/question: do you think a Discord would be useful, or are we fine without? I can spin one up a majority leans towards the former.

While I think its a good idea at least for organization and just for ease of communication, I think it'll be fine even if not.

Anyways, suppose I'll get a post out first thing tomorrow.
