Hmm.

No response from Sir Kannazuki. Too busy attending to their new friend, most likely. Well, that was just fine too. She had other things to attend to herself. She also was quite aware that her appearance was likely more than a little...off putting. Far be it from her to make someone uncomfortable especially in such a situation even if she would have liked attending to him. Really, maybe she should just anyways...she knew how to handle such things and anyone else would simply mess it up. She was the best caretaker and also the only one who could -

Ahem.

She'd breathe in, remembering some words from Kyouko-sama.

Sometimes, there was such a thing as being overly helpful.

Well, no matter.

She could finish cooking.

Sliding away from the hubbub of the fire and camp, Nyla would head into her lodgings...only to find it already occupied by Tomi. Eating one of her cakes, no less. Well she had no qualms with that, but...

"Ah. Tomi. I wasn't aware you had a habit of sneaking into peoples rooms without their permission..." She'd say, noticing the book in her hands."If you need advice on human relationships I would be happy to give. I happen to be something of a expert, you know." She'd say, sliding over to the dragon and giving her a friendly smile.

The cake would have been...nearly indescribable. The moment she'd have taken a bite out of it, it would have likely briefly, revealed the entire secrets of the universe to the dragon. It was almost like tasting every single flavor at once. It was sweet but it was hard to describe why or how sweet exactly. Just that it was, but it couldn't be described...oh, and she'd have probably find her eyes drawn to Nyla as for whatever reason, images of the Shoggoth in various...compromising positions briefly appear in her head.

"Or was there something...else you wanted?" She'd respond with a giggle.

@PaulHaynek@FrogRFlowR@Rune_Alchemist

Shizuka was glad to see that Takeshi had calmed himself and agreed to have dinner with them; He watched him take a seat with Wyn and start a conversation. Finally, someone who’s willing to listen to reason!

He took notice of Nyla coming up to him for a brief moment, but he supposed that she saw that he was busy so decided to head back into the kitchen area. Much to his relief; He didn’t think he could deal with her right now after what happened last night…

Unfortunately, before he could engage in more pleasantries or take a breather himself, he sensed someone was fast approaching. However, much to his surprise, the chi belonged to that of a mamono. An undead it would seem. Did the Varjans have necromancers on their side, he thought? Whatever the case, he didn’t have much time to think as it appeared the person in question was about to make their presence known to the entire camp.

Stepping away toward the edge of camp, he decided to greet this 'guest' directly.

"Identify yourself"

@Restalaan@Rezod92@Slypheed@Hammerman@Dark Cloud

Atsuha took notice of Takeshi’s blushing face and giggled a bit. After the situation seemed to have de-escalated. She then decided to address the two newcomers, crawling over to them as they went on about the male monsters.

”Konbanwa. I wasn’t expecting aid to literally come down from the heavens. Although, I say that while we have an angel as part of our ranks. At any rate, my name is Hangai Atsuha: Paranormal Detective Extraordinaire and the most beautiful arachnid you’ll ever lay eyes on~” She said, not being able to help but to flatter herself.

”Ah yes, everyone was rather shocked at the existence of one male monster boy, let alone four! But as the bunny has stated, we’ve been too busy dealing with other things to really pay it much mind.” One may notice that there was a bit of a nervous slip at the end of her statement. She also shot a blushed glance at Skarsneek for a brief moment.

”That being said, it’s interesting to see more foreigners join our group. Especially when they’re a pair consisting of a little birdie and buzzing fly.” Her comment was more jovial and playful than anything else. ”My, how fun it would be to trap you both in a myriad of enchanted webbing. Oh! But, I don’t think Shizu-kun would approve of that, teehee.”

She then crawled a bit closer to Valeriya for a moment. ”Also, feathered one, and you as well little bunny” she said to both Lunatea and Valeriya. ”I…just wanted to personally thank you. It was thanks to the both of you that my sister found her way back to me.” She then went over to Luna and gently placed her hands on her shoulders. ”Especially to you, Luna-chan. I realized that my request was a very hasty and selfish one to make given the circumstance. But, in the end, I was right to trust you with looking after her for me. I am…in your debt. From now on, if you ever have need for anything, know that you can always look to the Hangai sisters.” She stated in a sincere tone.

Atsuha took notice of of Sam, who seemed to be recovering from a bit of shock ftom tonight's ordeal. Recalling the events detailed to her by Lunatea, she began to pity him a little. She walked over to him and gave him a gentle embrace, rubbing his head in a comforting rhythm.

"You poor thing..." She said, looking at him with sad eyes. "You must've been terrified. Forgive me, I should've prepared for this more.".

She released her hug, but still had his hands on his shoulders. "Sam, I...I just hope that...you don't think of Hinami any differently because of what happened. Sh-She really is a sweet girl! I just..." She began to trail off, as if at a loss.

She then backed away and took a moment to regain herself. ”Ahem, my apologies for cutting this short, but if you will excuse me…” She then left them and began making her way toward Skarsneek.

Atsuha gently knelt down beside Skarsneek by the fire he was still poking at. ”Hello there.” She said. ”Seems we’ve had quite the night, eh? Her manner of speech was very reserved and hushed. ”I heard you took a grievous wound during the battle. It appears to still be showing.” She said as she looked at the scar on his chest. She placed a gentle hand on it, rubbing a bit. ”I believe getting rid of this nasty mark on your skin shouldn’t be too much trouble. Although, you’re probably one of those warrior types who think scars are a sign of one’s pride and experience. This time her tone deepened a bit, added with a bit of frustration. ”I understand you’re probably used to this sort of thing by now, but maybe you’d stand to be a little more careful next time…”

She turned away for a moment, seemingly now having an issue looking him in the eye. Her blushing intensified as well. ”Also, I-I wanted to talk about what happened during the boatride…”

But, before she could continue further, it seemed that a presence was fast approaching the camp. Dammit, no! Not now, she thought. However, like Shizuka, she quickly sensed that the chi belonged to that of a mamono. Huh, except for the yōkai territory denizens, weren’t they supposed to be the only monsters here? Shizuka appeared to the one would who confront their new guest.

While she was relieved it wasn’t more Varjans coming, she was still cautious as to how this scene may play out.

"Slow your roll there, uber-spider. I'm a Hornet, not a Beelzebub. Do I look like I rummage through garbage for a meal?", Kerry retorted before flinching back in shock and blushing at Atsuha's second statement. "G-Geez, you're that kind of freaky. You sure it's the Varjans I need to watch out for?"

Before she could continue, Kerry snapped her head toward the nearby woods, her antennas twitching.

Something's closing on the camp....fast.

The hornet jumped down from her branch walked towards where Shizuka stood, her hand stretched out and waiting.

"Identify yourself"

"What he said. Nice and slow.", Kerry added as the cool metal of Dusk smacked into her hand, planting the blunt end to the ground as she stood beside the samurai. "After what we've been through today, we're not in the mood for any games."

At Samael's remark, Lunatea gave him a glare and a blush. She would much prefer him to keep their secret only to themselves, thank you very much!

Still, she did feel it was sweet of him to talk about their relationship in such a way. Another reason why she fell for him, she supposed.

As for him hugging her leg like that, well, let’s just say she enjoyed the sensation.

ㅤ

Cambiel's response to Kerry's question took her by surprise. Though if she were to think about it, it all made sense. As an angel, he would hate the Great Change more than anyone. As a monster, who could agree with Lilith’s ideal, she certainly welcomed the Great Change, as well as her parents, but to an angel, it certainly would be a terrifying thing to go through, seeing how slowly, you saw your comrades being corrupted by Lilith’s power.

She gave him a sympathetic look from a distance. She almost wanted to go to him and pat him on the head but she knew he’d probably hate her for it. Angels tended to be quite proudful after all.

ㅤ

When Atsuha walked over and thanked her for saving her sister, Lunatea replied with a bow. "You're welcome, Miss Atsuha. Though, I have to wonder, what is that talisman sealing? I never met a monster with such a… threatening presence before. To be frank, I'm worried sending her out to the battlefield in such a state." She continued, referring to her unsealed self.

After speaking to her, she watched her apologize to Sam for her sister frightening him. To be honest, she didn't think she should've done that. Coddling him like this… it would only encourage him to stay weak, something he couldn't be if he wanted to tag along with them.

And then, all of a sudden, she felt it. A new presence entering their camp.

"Stay close to me." She told Samael. "Hey you! Identity yourself!"

Act 1: Will Of The Oja

Onrai

Regional Border

It took the taskforce a day and a half to reach the Onrai region, taking occasional breaks here and there. Shizuka was leading the taskforce towards Terauchi Temple, where Kyouko's few human spies on the island were based and where the taskforce could use as a base of operations. Takeshi was not amused, although not surprised either, that one of their sacred temples was actually a front for the yokai.

The trip was mostly uneventful, granting the group an opportunity to admire the wide scenery of the region's plentiful grasslands under the light of the morning sun. The stoned and bricked roads of Saikoten soon gave way to the dirt paths of Onrai. The moment was fleeting, for they all knew that the Varjan invaders will be all over this place very soon.

The taskforce encountered no souls save for the occasional passing or fleeing villagers. Those who did not know of the invasion were informed and advised to seek shelter immediately while those who were already running had grim news: The Varjans were rapidly expanding eastward to Ginirokaze from their landings in Saikoten. Not only that, but the Varjan fleet was quickly encircling Shizuyama. It was obvious they planned landings on every edge of the island and to cut off any outside aid.

The news made Takeshi's heart heavier than it has ever been in his life. But now, he had the ability to act. And he WILL act. But whether he will regret acting or not...

"Yokai." He called to attention the entire taskforce. "We'll need more than us if we are to rescue my father. There were warriors, friends, that I didn't see with us during the battle on the beach. They may still be alive and, if they are being smart which I'm sure they are, they'll be hiding here in Onrai." He explained. "We'll need to comb the region for their whereabouts, and recruit them to our mission."

"There's just a... problem. You are all yokai so at best, they won't listen to you and at worst, they'll try to kill you." Takeshi closed his eyes and cupped his chin for a moment before exclaiming with a profound idea. "Ah, I know! Tell them that I sent you and that I couldn't come because I was still dressed up as a miko. They'll know what that means and should be all ears... I hope."

"I, myself, will be looking for Kikyo. She's the last of the exiled Kinkakuji Clan." Takeshi finished. "And... she's someone special to me. I'd go alone, but I suppose any of you can tag along."

"Oh and, what do we do about the prisoner?" Takeshi asked about Kasseros. "I know we have him bound tightly but he'll be a liability if we take him on our searches. Someone should take him to Terauchi Temple and imprison him properly there."

"Takamori is a warrior whose eyes allow him to predict his opponent's next moves. An ability we could have used in Sanjo Beach if he showed up... but maybe it was good that he didn't or else we might have lost him too.

He has an archery dojo to the southwest. We can start looking for him there. We'll certainly need his unique ability."
Takeshi Oja

"I think I'll help in finding this Takamori guy. Sounds like he would've been invaluable on that beach and he's definitely gonna be invaluable if we want any hope of driving these Varjan pricks off this island.", Kerry said, stretching before turning to her teammates. "Anyone care to join me?"

"Hm, ye' sure you wanna go after a guy like dat?" Wyndressa piped up. "I get the feelin' he'll try to get ye' before ye' even ten paces of'em!"

Still, when Takeshi mentioned the others; two names of interests popped up.

"Kageho is a shinobi who was supposed to attempt to sneak through the Varjan blockade alongside others. The last wave of shinobi that we could send. I... ordered them not to go anymore, behind my father's back, since it would have been a waste and the Varjans were upon us. It was too late to call for reinforcements from the other islands.

Still, I expected her to show up in Sanjo Beach with the other shinobi. But they didn't. Anyway, their hideout should be around here somewhere. Try looking for any suspicious clearings in the forests around here. We can use their help."
Takeshi Ouja

If these "Shinobi" had been trying to spy on the Varjans, then perhaps one of them might know something about Hilda.

"How's about I go find this Kage-Pfft!" Wyndressa tried not to laugh. She had to know how that name would sound! This is what isolation does to people. Anyway, "I'll look for dis Kage-hoe, if ye' don't mind? I get the feelin' I should be able to approach'em wit'out gettin' their knickers all in a bunch!"

For the next day, both Skarsneek and Gringor assembled as they were briefed on the next course of action and possible options available to them.

Skarsneek initially wanted to head towards the so-called ninjas for their information gathering and probable better knowledge of the land but Wyndressa had volunteered for that.

So he opted for other options.

@PaulHaynek

"Sorae's skill with the naginata is fearsome and second to none. She and her clan was summoned to Sanjo Beach, but never appeared. We should head to their estate in the west and find out what happened to them and, if possible, recruit them to rescue my father."

"I'll go for Sorae." Skarsneek said as he poked and brushed the top of his two horns. Perhaps if he can find a way to cover his head, they won't outright mistake him for a mamono. He then turned to Takeshi and asked. "Any of you know where to get those wide straw hats?"

Gringor on the other hand, chose a much simpler option that rouse his interest.

"There's a monastery east of here called Fung Temple.

There's a monk there named Nobutada. He's one of the most sturdiest people I know, able to weather blows that could shatter boulders. When my father called for the monks of Fung Temple, I didn't see Nobutada among them. If he's still alive, he'll be in the monastery and he can lend us his aid."

"I'll go for the temple." Grinning as he wondered if that statement of taking blows capable of shattering boulders was true. If it was, well, it meant he can get serious. And if they want to fight him, who was he to deny them that? "Crack a few heads, and get them to follow us."

"We're supposed to recruit them, not kick their ass." Skarsneek snarkily remarked though it was brushed off by the own high orc retort.

"Don't go skirt-chasing then."

"...Bah, fine, so long he's able to move, just do what you want." Skarsneek threw his hands in resignation though if Atsuha paid attention, Skarsneek didn't deny Gringor words either.

For the most part Roku kept to herself during the group's travel to the temple. She might have had to occasionally fend off a Manomo or two as well as ignore a few comments, though. One in particular seemed to have a hard time not staring, but the Ochimusha was glad she never actually spoke to her directly. As for herself, Roku kept in close proximity of Takeshi mostly while not being in his direct bubble. She was torn between wanting to serve him, but having a hard time coming to term with what she was. Not just the fact she was a monster now, but also the changes in her mind. Impulses and thoughts that so far seemed intrusive and confusing to her. Ever the stoic, though, it was doubtful anyone would notice her doubts.

When all was said and done and Takeshi had spoken to them about his immediate objectives, Roku stepped up to him. "My Lord, I cannot let you undertake such a task on your own. Let me accompany you and save this...friend of yours." Roku was certain that her desire to protect Takeshi was the prevalent reason she proposed to guard him. If there was a second... underlying reason for her to follow him, she was not yet aware.

@Hammerman@Restalaan
As for Tomi, after having been freed of the Cake's and Nylaa's influence she went back to being her usual self around camp; napping, messing around and annoying Shizuka mostly. Maybe once or twice she would've taken flight and come back a few hours later to either stretch herself or hunt for food. Being a lazy Dragon was a thing, but instincts were instincts and one couldn't just toss them aside. Speaking of which, her instinct triggered something in her when she saw the newcomer. That Roku girl struck something in Tomi that she couldn't explain exactly - she seemed familiar. Though not enough to go out of her way to speak with her, especially since she seemed particularly cold (pun intended).

When they had moved in to their new base and Takeshi made his little speech, Tomi wasn't especially thrilled to go hunt for people that would probably want to kill them. From up on the branch of a nearby tree where she was laying, Tomi looked around. Out of all the group, three caught her attention; Lunatea, Skarsneek and Samael. She thought she saw them generally be around one another, but more importantly they seemed more on the quiet side. It seemed like they had the most chances of avoiding fighting in general and allowing her to have a nice, relax mission.

"Don't go skirt-chasing then."

"He won't!"
Gringor would hear Tomi chirp in as she landed, not too strongly this time, beside Skarsneek. She proceeded to stand with all her height while patting the goblin's head and proclaiming; "Because I'll be watching him."

"I'm sure you won't mind if I join you, right hmm...Scar Sneak?" she said, almost revealing just how aloof and inattentive she was at times - as if it was not common knowledge already. "Wait..." Tomi said as she crouched beside the Goblin as if he was a small child.

"You're a... male?"

"Monsters! If any of you still have some form of honour, face me! Your kind is not welcomed on these shores and I, Yoshihara Roku, will see that your corruption is erased here and now!"

Lunatea rolled her eyes. Great. Another person who thinks all monsters are bad.

She's terribly wounded though. And yet, she still wants to pick a fight with us?

…Wait, no. She’s not wounded. She’s… she’s an undead. An undead monster!

So why does a monster like her hate her own kind?

She decided to let Shizuka handle her. He seemed to be willing so who was she to disobey?

And then, they decided to settle their distrust with, what else, a good old-fashioned sword duel.

It was impressive to be sure. But must they resort to violence right away?

Really, she didn’t think she would ever be able to understand the heart of a warrior in her lifetime.

She watched them engage in their sword fight with both curiosity and annoyance, intertwined in one contradictory manner. It couldn't be helped. She herself had always been somewhat of a contradictory person.

Hmm, I guess they both are impressive… I can barely see their movements… Especially Shizuka's…

Well, at least that's over quickly, thankfully enough. Thanks to that Takeshi person, nonetheless.

"No...you're lying. There is no way a warrior such as yourself would be with Monsters...unless you've been corrupted."Roku Yoshihara

"He's not corrupted, you imbecile." Lunatea butted in, as she often did. "We're not here to get husbands. We're here to save this land from the Varjans." She half-lied. She certainly wouldn't refuse a cute man, she thought, if she happened to meet one on their journey.

@FrogRFlowR@PaulHaynek

She paid a glance to Samael, not-so-subtly marking him as a candidate.

She watched with satisfaction as Takeshi defended them. Glad that man is coming to his senses. She especially smirked when he broke the news that she was a monster now. Welcome to the club!

As she expected, she didn't take it well, to the point of declaring suicide. Ah, was this the famed seppuku she had heard about? That would be quite the sight to see.

Thankfully (or unfortunately, if you saw it from the eyes of a heartless anthropologist), Takeshi managed to talk her out of it.

Noticing her blush, she rolled her eyes to the back of her head. And now she has a crush on the young lord…

ㅤ

Nothing else noteworthy happened that night. They ate and slept, taking turns keeping watch, before they woke up in the morning, hopefully well-rested for the challenges to come.

For the next day and a half, Lunatea kept herself busy admiring the scenery, jotting down notes in her notebook while memorizing it in her mind as well. It was unfortunate that they didn't pass through any human dwellings however, as she certainly could use a day or two in one of them, interviewing the residents, noting their cultures, etc, etc.

And then, all of a sudden, Takeshi wanted them to split up.

I suppose there’s wisdom in that. To cover more grounds, it’s better if we go separately.

Still, that also means splitting up our firepower…

She sighed, shaking the thought off her head. It wasn’t her job to come up with the plans.

“Dressed as a miko?” She raised an eyebrow at his statement. “What do you mean by that exactly?” She asked him.

He then gave them their options—which one of those people they would come visit and ask for aid.

“I’ll go with Kikyo,” she declared. “She seems to be the most normal of the bunch. It’s better for a weakling like me to chase after such a person.”

She wasn’t afraid to call herself a weakling. It was the truth after all. She was just a scholar, not a warrior. The only reason she could fight was because of the panties she wore.

As for the matter of the prisoner, she opted to leave it to the others. There was no way she could be bothered with such a troublesome task.

Ah, she needed that. Tomi was quite entertaining to speak with, and honestly being so far away from Kyouko-sama was starting to wear on her just a bit. Shizuka was well, nice enough all things considered...the other males, though? The...what were they? Goblin and Orc? Crude and lacking any sort of class. Honestly she wondered if they were useful at all, but well, no matter. Nyla would listen quietly to the proceedings and thoughts of the others. She had half a mind to go with Tomi since she was going with one of them, but...well, she'd decide her talents would be better suited elsewhere.

Hm, come to think of it, wasn't there something Lady Kyouko wanted her to do?

Ah-wait a minute!

Something about the Oja clan, right!?

Oh goodness, and didn't the young man here introduce himself as being from it? Oh dear oh dear how was she so distracted? She supposed she must still be feeling rather despondent from being away from Kyouko-sama for so long.

Right, well, she'd have to be tactful about this...

"I could continue watching after our prisoner, if need be." Nyla responded. "If it is uneeded though, then I will accompany Lord Oja." She'd smile at the young man, a certain 'I will be going rather you like it or not' sort of smile. "I do hope that isn't a problem? while I dislike fighting if nothing else, if something goes awry my body is fairly durable..."

Shizuka was certainly thankful that Takeshi was able to diffuse the situation before things got more intense, even being able to talk her out of taking her own unlife! After everyone else had settled in, dinner was served and the squad retired for the long day ahead. However, Shizuka was still weary; he had many questions that didn’t have answers…yet. All that was obvious was their paths would be long and treacherous.

Onrai

Regional Border

Taking lead from Takechi’s directions, Shizuka led the taskforce toward the Onrai region which layed deeper into the Shizuyama territory. The trip itself took roughly a day and a half, but it wasn't so bad though. The group got to take in the lush grasslands rustling gently in the morning breeze, also bearing witness to some of the fleeing villagers. It brought him, if only a little, relief that more people made it out alive. It was, however, fleeting. Reports of the Varjans taking control of several key areas spread as quickly as they did, and more troops were pouring in even now. He saw the anguish in Takeshi’s eyes at the news, which hardened his resolve to end this madness all the more.

He took notice of Atsuha watching Hinami like a hawk, sensing that some sort of new Onmyōdō sorcery was placed on her. Atsuha had explained to the group earlier that she had placed a stronger spell on Hinami to keep her emotions in check, saying that the ofuda would no longer be needed. It had been replaced by an odd tattoo on her forehead. Shizuka had his doubts, however, given the circumstances he had secretly always felt that the original method was too ineffective. Of course, Shizuka despite being a spellcaster was no Onmyōji and since he felt that the sisters had been through enough as it is he left it alone for now. Atsuha, at least, would remain by her side this time if anything arose on the battlefield again.

Takeshi stopped the group for a moment, detailed to them about how he had more allies who were to defend the beach with him but never actually showed. Saying they needed all the help they could get was beating a dead horse at this point, so he voted to have the force split for the second time to assist in finding them. Deciding it to be for the best, he allowed the other members to delegate which of Takeshi's allies they would seek out. There was one he went into particular detail, Kikyo was it? He went on about how she was very dear to him, and how he was willing to go find her himself if need be. Hearing that struck a chord with Shizuka, he thought of days long past. Along with a familiar heavy feeling in his heart. Some of the members already stated their chosen targets; it would appear that both Luna and Nyla would be traveling with Takeshi to find Kikyo, which made him feel a little better.

“I’ll go with Kikyo,” she declared. “She seems to be the most normal of the bunch. It’s better for a weakling like me to chase after such a person.”

”Luna-chan.” He started. ”Victory isn’t gained through pure show of force. We each have a role to play here, and your talents are a huge part of that.” He thought that Lunatea’s choice of words were rather odd, although it was to be expected.

"Oh and, what do we do about the prisoner?" Takeshi asked about Kasseros. "I know we have him bound tightly but he'll be a liability if we take him on our searches. Someone should take him to Terauchi Temple and imprison him properly there."

”I’ll take him to the temple. In fact, I’m hoping we can get some good information about the Varjan forces and their plans from this fellow.” He walked towards Nyla, preparing to take him.

”Also, Takeshi-sama, was there any particular place that’d be good for everyone to meet up once we’ve accomplished our respective quests? Like the temple?”

Atsuha heard Skarsneek call out the person he was going after, last night was interrupted so she supposed this would be a good time to pick back up their previous conversation. That was, of course, before a certain annoying dragon decided to act as a third wheel (or fourth, since she wouldn’t be letting Hinami out of her sight anytime soon).

”I’ll be accompanying Skars-kun on his little excursion, and taking Hinami as well.” She announced to the other members.

Hinami simply nodded in agreement and followed suit with her sister. She had been strangely silent since the trek here.

”Last night you said you’d be more careful.” Atsuha said as she walked closer to the goblin. ”But for now I’ll be the judge of that, someone has to be there to patch you up in case you decide to play daredevil again.” She was nearly in his face, gently wagging a finger in his face.

"You're a... male?"

"Oh yes, trust sweetie, he's a male alright~" She hummed to Tomi. "Needless to say, I suggest you keep your distance."

Her tone, whilst still soft, carried with it a bit of foreboding.

Skarsneek of the Red Hill

Having the tall dragoness landing next to him, his eyes was drawn towards her immediately. Seeing that amazing body upclose once again, only serve to enflame the goblin's desire. Briefly missing out on her question about his gender.

Though when Atsuha came in, it served as cold water to his train of thoughts and allowed him to quickly shift on other things. He cleared his throat in an attempt to mask his stare.

"Don't worry, I'll definitely keep myself safe." Skarsneek gently pushed her wagging finger but not before entangling it with his own hand for a brief hand-hold. "Wouldn't want to worry the missus now."

At the corner of his eyes however, he noted Hinami...subdued temperament. An oddity itself as he was sure that undead was supposed to be much more upbeat and spying the lack of the paper talisman looking thing in front of her, in place of it was some other form of magic circle.

"Say...is your sister okay?" Skarsneek said in a lower voice and shared a glance with Atsuha before turning it to Hinami. "She's a bit quiet since yesterday."

Atsuha blushed as Skarsneek grasped her finger, if only for a moment. Her cheeks dyed themselves an even deeper red when he said the word 'missus'. "Wha-What does he mean by missus?!" She silently thought to herself. Her was snapped out of her thoughts when Skarsneek asked about Hinami, however, who had only spoken using body gestures so far.

"Hinami-chan is perfectly fine, Skars-kun! She's just shaken up from the last battle, and needs to take it easy for a little while. I'm sure you of all people can appreciate that last night was rough for all of us. Beside, if I'm the one looking after her then of course she's fine!"

With the verbose way in which her answer was panned, one must wonder if she was trying to convince everyone else or herself of her sister's condition.

"Nee-san is right Skars-kun." Hinami finally chimed in, haven spoken for the first time since their trek had resumed. "I'm actually feeling much better now." She wore her usual warm smile it had before. "If I'm being honest, I'm still a bit winded from the previous skirmish. But, I promise not to get in the way or slow you all down. I'll support you all as best I can!"

While she spoke with a cheerful tone, one may be able to still sense that something was...off about the girl. She then turned to Tomi for a moment.

"I mean that for you as well, Tomi-chan. Let's do our best in finding this Sorae fellow. The more allies, the better!

Varjan War Camp

The Code Of Shizuyama

“Dressed as a miko? What do you mean by that exactly?”
Lunatea Vern Farnsworth

"It's a long story." Takeshi chuckled. "It involves an important ceremony, a missing miko and the whole island watching." The young Oja wondered if he should have humored the rabbit yokai. It was a small exchange, but a sign of camaraderie surely.

"I do hope that isn't a problem? while I dislike fighting if nothing else, if something goes awry my body is fairly durable..."
N'ylaatothk

Takeshi was still intimidated by the scary eldritch maid yokai and now she wanted to join him? "Oh, err, well, the prisoner really should be taken to somewhere secure so..."

It was then that Valeriya the Owl Mage interjected with an offer. "Miss Nyla, if I may? I can take the prisoner from your hands so you may accompany Takeshi. I don't mind and I need to go to Terauchi Temple anyway to catch a break." Valeriya used her telekinetic magic to lift the tied up prisoner from the Shoggoth. "I'll be joining Sir Kannazuki then."

"..." Takeshi sighed, there was no escaping it.

”Also, Takeshi-sama, was there any particular place that’d be good for everyone to meet up once we’ve accomplished our respective quests? Like the temple?”
Shizuka Kannazuki

"Yeah, the temple's good. If it's a place under the control of your Lady Kyouko, then your yokai friends won't need to worry about any of my people attacking them." Takeshi still cannot believe that the temple's true nature went undiscovered all this time. Well, he supposed it was for the best considering the current circumstances.

---

Takeshi and the monster girl trio made their way to Wadatsumi Port, walking the roads as morning turned to noon. The young Oja was uncomfortable along the way, not helping was that the Shoggoth was eyeing him all the while. Two of the yokai were complete strangers and while he knew Roku, she was yokai nonetheless and Takeshi was taught thar the transformation into a yokai induces... changes to the individual.

And yet, Takeshi could not deny their beauty. They had a... charm to them, a supernatural one. The rabbit yokai called Lunatea appeared quite fluffy while Nyla, though she struck fear, looked soft to the touch, probably jelly-like if he had to guess. Even Roku who was dead not a day ago seemed to have only become prettier after returning to life.

No, no, Takeshi shook his head to stop himself from being tempted. He must focus on the task ahead.

And what was ahead was a camp on the path that was not supposed to be there. "Everyone, get down." Takeshi quietly led his party behind a low rock. Beyond them was a camp situated on the face of inclining terrain. The camp was still under construction, its wooden palisades incomplete and some tents lying on the ground unbuilt. Freshly-cut timber lied on the roadsides, yet to be sliced further and processed.

On a closer look, the people who were building this camp were familiar faces. Warriors in either dark armor or dressed in furs and leathers. "Varjans?! They're already here?!" Takeshi was in disbelief. How could they reach this far so quickly? Regardless, this was an obstacle in their path. "We'll waste too much time if we go around. We'll have to get through them."

Takeshi was quiet for a moment, crafting his next words carefully, before turning to face the trio. "May I... May I do this alone?" He requested from his monster companions. "My... It's against my-- our code to fight alongside yokai, or let yokai fight our battles for us. To do so would be to invite their influence unto us." He explained as best he could. "Please, try to understand. These lessons... I can't just go against them."

"So please, stay here while I handle the camp." Takeshi reiterated his request.

Of course, with one glance at the camp and it could already be seen that there were about more than a dozen Varjans occupying the unfinished war camp. And while Takeshi could probably handle the small fry, he might be overwhelmed and there could be more formidable foes inside the completed tents. For the young Oja to head in alone, it would be suicide. Still, the monster girls can heed his dumb request and see what happens.

Takamori's Dojo

Takamori, Blessed Sight

Kerry flew alone to Takamori's dojo, making good time with the speed of her flight unburdened. The dojo was situated on a cliff, overlooking a small village filled with ponds that emitted steam; The famed hot springs of Zipangu.

The Hornet monster landed on the training grounds. She could see a house-like abode in front of an archery range that had three painted hay targets. There was also a bamboo stand near the edge too. However, the dojo was deserted and signs of fighting was littered everywhere. The sliding doors had been destroyed, arrows were stuck on the wood walls and spatters of blood were all over the grounds.

While Kerry was investigating one such sign, an arrow flew forth and landed just beside her foot, coming from the rooftop of the one building. The archer was a middle-aged man with glowing yellow eyes, dark blue hair and light skin. He wore a blue and white attire and wielded a finely-crafted bow with a nocked arrow ready to be loosed at the Hornet.

"Don't move, or the next one will land a little closer." He warned Kerry. "Now tell me what you're here for. This island is being invaded and I don't wanna waste my time on a yokai looking for a man to catch."

Tokinomiya Estate

Sorae, Gentle Heart

~ @AzureKnight (ATS & HIN), @Restalaan (SKA), @FrogRFlowR (TMI) ~

The group journeyed to the Tokinomiya estate, Sorae's home. The trip was uneventful, and finding the estate was not difficult. It stuck out like a sore thumb, being located in a green plateau in the outskirts of a nearby village.

But something was wrong, the group could see multiple black smokestacks rising from the estate. Rushing to the area and ascending the stairs, the group found the aftermath of what was clearly an attack on the Tokinomiya estate. Buildings were burned down or half-burnt, signs of fighting and violence littered the grounds and spatters of blood painted the soil and walls.

The dozen corpses that could be found were all people from Shizuyama, not one sign of the Varjans. However, the armors and clothes of the fallen bore different symbols from each other and Shizuyama weapons could sometimes be found sticking out of the bodies. It was clear that the Varjans did not do this, this was a battle between two groups of the locals.

Suddenly, a shadowy blur jumped from one of the rooftops and delivered a sharp kick against Tomi's head before leaping behind Hinami and drawing a naginata to the neck of the Jiangshi. "As if Varjans and traitors weren't bad enough, now yokai have also come to Shizuyama? I really shouldn't be surprised, a huge invasion is the perfect time to execute schemes and plots."

The attacker was a light-skinned young woman, wearing darl blue-colored armor and clothes and had matching blue eyes. Her dark brown hair was tied to a ponytail and her face, though beautiful, was contorted by a mix of anger, sorrow and hopelessness.

"Now then, give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you all."

Fung Temple

Nobutada, Unwavering Will

~ @Restalaan (GRI) ~

Gringor journeyed alone to Fung Temple. Kind of a lonely trip, being alone and all, but perhaps a warrior like him did not mind.

The temple was located near a swamp, the male High Orc could see multiple structures around the pagoda of the temple complex. The place was well-developed, walls surrounded the temple grounds and the paths were made of stone to ease travel. However, Gringor could not miss one obvious detail currently in this monastery.

Fung Temple was crawling with Varjans, fully occupied by the invaders. Gringor could not see any of the monks from where he was, only Varjans ransacking the temple and building light defenses around it like crude watchtowers and spike walls. The invaders sure traveled and worked fast to be able to reach this far in such little time.

But then, Gringor saw a couple of Varjans escorting a huge, bald, fair-skinned man in orange robes. The man was clearly a Shizuyama local, his hands bound and his face a bit bruised and beaten. There was a good chance this was Nobutada, but the temple was still filled with Varjans. To tackle this problem head on might not be wise, but perhaps the male Orc could find an ally in the imprisoned monk?

Terauchi Temple

Rude Awakening

~ @AzureKnight (SHI) ~

Shizuka was joined by Valeriya and Samael to Terauchi Temple, to escort their Varjan prisoner and establish contact with Lady Kyouko's people there. Maybe even send a message to the Inari about what happened in Sanjo Beach and how Varjo was quickly taking over the island.

It was already noon when the taskforce reached the temple. The place was surrounded by trees that had leaves golden in color, its path lined with stones that welcomed anyone into the abode. However, the beauty of the scenery contrasted the grim sight of the temple grounds. Crude tents and mats filled the corners, occupied by refugees that have fled from the Varjan invaders. The monks of the temple were too busy tending to the refugees and the injured to welcome the group.

Fortunately, one of them had the time and approached the group in front of the temple's pagoda. "Ah, you must be the taskforce!"

The woman had short white hair, yellow eyes and dressed in simple brown robes. She looked like a monk, but it did not seem she was one since she had a sword strapped to her waist. The woman made a quick bow at Shizuka and his group. It seemed she was in a hurry. "I am Ayu, head of Lady Kyouko's spies in Shizuyama. Err, we don't have much time. Some of the warriors from Sanjo Beach came here and--"

"You!" A miko, the one Shizuka spoke to back in the beach, approached the group... and was in disbelief at the sight of Valeriya. Things were deteriorating very quickly. "Are you... were you in league with yokai all this time?" She demanded from the azure swordsman. "Answer me!"

The loud commotion was drawing the attention of everyone in the temple. The miko was joined by several of her fellow priestesses and surviving samurai while Valeriya, Samael and Ayu backed up Shizuka. Words must be chosen carefully, or was the fate of this situation already sealed?

"Welp, looks like I'm on my own for this one.", Kerry said to herself as she flew southwest, towards the dojo of one of Takeshi's allies, Takamori. As she flew, she took in the lovely scenery of the land, including a village that featured ponds that gave off steam.

Yoooo, are those hot springs!? Okay, if we do end saving Shizuyama when all of this is said and done, I've got to have myself a soak in one of these!

The images of future blissful relaxation, however, were short-lived as Kerry touched down in the training grounds of the dojo.....or what remained of it.

"What the hell?", she muttered to herself, now on high alert and a hand on Dusk as she cautiously approached the ransacked abode. The signs of past fighting were obvious, from the arrows embedded in the wooden walls to the sliding doors being busted wide open. There was blood everywhere on the grounds yet no bodies, at least none that the Hornet could plainly see.

A Varjan attack? If so, then they are not wasting anytime taking territory. But I don't see any bodies, Varjan or local. Just what the hell happened her-

Her thoughts were interrupted when her instincts flared up. Before she could even blink, an arrow impaled itself into ground mere inches from her foot. Quickly turning toward where the shot came from, Dusk already out and in her hands, she saw a light skinned, dark haired man with glowing yellow eyes perched on the rooftop of the building, a bow and a nocked arrow aiming right at her.

"Don't move, or the next one will land a little closer." He warned Kerry. "Now tell me what you're here for. This island is being invaded and I don't wanna waste my time on a yokai looking for a man to catch."

"Hmmmm....If I had to guess, you must be Takamori.", Kerry replied, her grip on her spear tight. "And before you ask how I know your name, I'm here on behalf of Takeshi Oja. He wanted to come and see you personally, but he couldn't. Something about still being dressed up as a miko? Anyway, as much as I want to do some hubby-hunting, now is not a good time for that so why don't you just put the bow and arrow down, hop off the roof and get over here so we can talk this out. Maybe tell me what happened to your dojo?"

Skarsneek of the Red Hills

Atsuha and Hinami answer didn't placate him at all, if anything it heightened his suspicion more as he looked back and forth between the sisters.

I'll have to talk to Hinami later if I can. Skarsneek decided at the end, hopefully, it's just his gut feeling being wrong in this one instance instead of the usual, and horribly accurate, instinct.

"Well, if you say so." He clapped both of his hands together to shift the topic before turning to Tomi the dragon and gestured his head to the sides. "Happy to work with a beautiful and strong dragon, if there's any trouble, we'll be relying on you."

"Alright then, let's head out!" Skarsneek said and made his journey after Takeshi told of their rendevous zone. Taking the lead as he moved ahead of the sisters and blonde dragon, having already memorized the map during the journey in his head.

He did however turned back and looked at all his other teammates before giving them a thumbs up.

@Hammerman, @Rune_Alchemist @Rezod92 @Dark Cloud @Slypheed @Noblebandit

"Don't die, yea?"

And with that, Skarsneek left but not before passing by Gringor and blow him a raspberry.

"You can die."

A snort is all that Gringor replied back before the high orc left for his own journey.

Throughout the journey, Skarsneek maintained a cheery mood as they traveled to their location. Taking in the scenery and beautiful sights occasionally, noting just how scenic it would've been if it wasn't because of the war and the fact that this entire island is populated by people who despise mamonos.

We should be there soon. He hummed as they arrived into a green plateau, though that's when he spotted something from afar. There's the sign of dark billowing smoke, steady, small but numerous.

With a click of his tongue, Skarsneek waved towards his companions to signal them. "Prepare for some trouble."

Moving closer to the estate, the smell of blood, decay and death filled his nose. The worst already coming to mind until he saw some of the conditions that the corpse was left behind. For one, it didn't look like it was the Varjan’s handiwork but rather, the Shizuyama’s own weapons instead.

Civil war? No, perhaps a traitor? Skarsneek surmised as it didn't seem that farfetched. Someone had to be profiteering from the situation after all. It's possible some radicals might have joined forces with the Varjans since Takeshi was willing to at least talk to them, Varjan won't even give that sort of courtesy.

In that moment of contemplation, a shadow briefly fell over him and before Skarsneek could process what happened, a new presence made itself known by kicking Tomi away before landing right behind Hinami.

Before she finished her words, Skarsneek had both of his clubs assembled as one and pointed them toward the intruder like a spear.

"Takeshi sent us since he couldn't come, and he's still dressed as a miko." He recited quickly before snarling past his clenched teeth. "So step away from her, now."

---

Gringor of the Ironhide Tribe

Moving around the island, Gringor strode through his destination with a crude map in hand. It wasn't the most accurate but it had enough landmarks for him to figure things out.

Eyes wandered around even as his mind wrapped around the situation their in now that he was alone with no one else. The enemy had plentiful supplies, a larger army, reserves, weapons, and elites available. The odd was highly against them, the only thing working for them was the geographical knowledge but that's if the locals decide to share with them.

Sure, it will be a good fight but it's also not fun losing and orcs don't lose. They can't afford to.

Brushing his hair, Gringor only sighed. Working with humans that don't like them was going to be a pain.

Approaching the temple, he could see from afar that something didn't mixed. The temple walls, stone, and design, all of it matched one another.

The spike walls and crude watch towers certainly didn't.

A shift in the winds direction allowed him to pick up a few certain scent in the air and he grin ear to ear.

Varjans.

Sticking and keeping his profile low, Gringor moved stealthily to get a better look at what he's dealing.

Then once he was close enough, it seemed that there was a prisoner being escorted. From the look of his clothes, bald head, and the multiple guards around him, Gringor surmised that the monk must be who they were looking for. Though the temptation of just barging in and destroying the Varjan was tempting, he'll need to get the monk out first since that's their main objective.

He'll have some fun after that but for now, it was time for his job.

Getting closer to the prison escort and into their expected travel path, Gringor stayed hidden as he waited patiently like a hunter. Though it did little to settle the fast, pounding and ferocious heart as a battle of patience waged within his mind. One urging to go in and simply tear them to pieces while the other urged for his prey to get closer so he can focus on nothing but tearing them to pieces.

Once they did, Gringor sprung out from his hiding spot like a Tiger. Brandishing his demon silver axe, he swung it hard enough that it appeared a blur even as it drained the guards of their energy spirit. Another slash brought another down, after five seconds or less, Gringor took down two guards already.

Turning sideways to check onto Nobutada, Gringor lash his axe out to cut the latter's bond to free him before turning his attention back to the Varjans. "Come, let's fight these Varjan's to the death."

"It's a long story." Takeshi chuckled. "It involves an important ceremony, a missing miko and the whole island watching." The young Oja wondered if he should have humored the rabbit yokai. It was a small exchange, but a sign of camaraderie surely.

Lunatea tilted her head. “Ah, I guess you mean he replaced the miko. Hmm, how curious. Is crossdressing acceptable in your society?”

ᅠ

Their trip to Wadatsumi Port was, at first, quite uneventful. Lunatea took in the beautiful scenery without letting her guard down in the slightest. For she believed that the Varjans could appear at any corner, especially since they were now walking in unfamiliar territory.

Her skirt, however, didn’t have the same privilege.

It continued to blow upwards from any stray wind that occured, and sometimes, without any winds at all, showing off the bunny’s panty-clad buttocks to Takeshi, Nyla, and Roku. Mainly to the former, as part of the dress’ programming to expose as much of its wearer’s panties to an attractive male. It certainly didn’t help to ease Takeshi’s… view on her kind.

If he were ever to mention the fact to her, she would just say something to the effect of, “It’s okay if you want to see my panties. Unlike some, I’m not shy about showing off my body. My mother caught my father by constantly flashing her underwear to him. I intend to find my husband the same way, especially since she said my butt is cute and all.” She would then take a step close to him and whisper, “Do you find my butt cute? I have yet to ask enough males to affirm my mother’s opinion to be a fact.

Truly, an attitude befitting of a monster.

Her tomfoolery was soon stopped, however, by the presence of a Varjan encampment. She quickly hid behind a rock with the other three. Crouching down with her legs folded like that meant she was yet again showing off her black panties to his eyes.

“You want to do it alone? Don’t be stupid.” Lunatea quickly chastised him while still exposing her underwear. “Do you want to die? No amount of honor is worth it if you lose your life achieving it in the process.”

And yet, no matter what she said, he insisted on doing it alone. And so she decided to just let him go and see how well he did. If he started to get overwhelmed, then she would join in.

She didn't have to wait long.

"Oh for Lilith’s sake…"

She dashed in, readying her spell as she ran. Her panties reacted, sending a surge of wind that lifted up her skirt. Her first blow wasn't that of her wind magic, however, as she jumped forward and performed a dive kick on the nearest Varjan soldier. Her feet were enhanced with the element of earth, adding both weight and durability. The last thing he saw was her black panties, before losing consciousness entirely.

She followed up by ducking behind the nearest tent, dodging the arrows the Varjan archers were firing at her. She used the opportunity to charge up a quick wind spell (bellowing her skirt in the process yet again), just in time to throw it to an approaching soldier, knocking him away.

She looked at Nyla and Roku. They should come to his rescue as well, right?

Of course, Nyla could tell he was staring at her. At all of them really. Not that she minded. If anything, being looked at made her little squishy heart shudder with a mild bit of delight. Of course, she couldn't keep her eyes off him either. As per Kyouko-sama's request, she had to treat him as she would her. It was no different from her previous occupation, really. She remained as attentive as she could.

...

hmm...

Nyla, for the most part remained silent for the trip. A silent caretaker and ensuring that if someone was hungry, they were fed. If someone was tired, they had a place to rest, up until the point where they had reached their destination. She had hoped it wouldn't involve nearly as much fighting as the beach front had, but alas. It seemed like that was too much to hope for. She almost felt like complaining to Kyouko-sama about sending her to fight people when she was much better suited towards more...stealthy missions.

"...hmm..." She'd quietly observe Takeshi enter the fray alone. If it had been anyone else, she'd have probably called them a fool for doing so by themselves, but if she were to do that, she'd have to be called Lady Kyouko-sama a fool too then. Well, might as play up to her strengths just ever so slightly, then. Instead of immediately directly confronting the camp, Nyla would instead disengage and make an attempt to circle around to another side of the encampment while they were distracted with the others.

And the moment she would find an opening...well, they'd have nowhere to run. Caught between three aggressors and a wall of fleshy, gooey mass that would ensnare and entrap the moment they came close.

Terauchi Temple

@PaulHaynek@Dark Cloud

Arriving at the temple with Valeriya and Sam, along with having Kasseros in tow, Shizuka was greeted with the sight of refugees and injured fighters that contrasted the golden leafed trees that loomed over. He recognized some of the fighters from the beach a few nights ago. Good, they actually took my advice. Glad they made it out. he thought to himself. Upon stepping into the camp, they were met by the spy Ayu. Shizuka recalled Kyouko mentioning her in the report, she was the leader of her spies her on the island. She gave off a clear sense of urgently and her speech matched it. She confirmed that some of the survivors at the camp were indeed the defenders from Sanjo Beach, however, she was interrupted before she could go any further.

The shrine maiden he had spoken to earlier had noticed he arrived. More unfortunately, she also noticed that he had two mamono with him as well. Well...This was bound to happen eventually. He thought. At this point, it couldn't be helped. Still, this situation could take an even more worse turn depending on what Shizuka says or doesn't say.

"These yōkai are here to aid you in taking back the island from these invaders, as am I." He began, taking note of the other warriors drawing closer to the scene. "I'm well aware of your land's relationship with mamono, but right now the only threat to your island are the Varjans. You should know that it was these very same monsters that risked there lives in order save the people of Shizuyama."

"I am allying with these mamono, because of aforementioned reasons. So, what will you do? Will you allow us to save the lives of your people, or will you instead point your blades at those who would aid you?"

Tokinomiya Estate

@Restalaan@FrogRFlowR

Atsuha was a bit relived that Skarsneek seemed content with her and Hinami's reassurance, though she did still sense a bit of concern coming from him. Atsuha's new spell was working fine to quell her sister's more monstrous alter ego, but she still wasn't sure how it would truly effect her mental state. She was, however, confident that she could quell her and avoid harm to her allies and any innocents so long as she was near Hinami.

The Jorōgumo chucked as Skarsneek blew his tongue out at the high orc, she wondered why they hated each other so much. Perhaps due to some cultural differences that she simply wasn't privy to. Perhaps she could ask him later, when death doesn't lie around every corner.

The walk to the Tokinomiya Estate was rather pleasurable, Atsuha and even Hinami enjoyed the beautiful landscape. The elder sister hoped that the trek would further help calm her sibling's mind. Although, she could help but be distracted by Skarksneek's cheerful disposition, who was ahead of the party happily skipping along. Of course, the little dragon Tomi was also slugging with them as well. Atsuha had to admit that at first, she didn't like the idea of her coming along. It didn't bother her at this point, as it seemed Tomi had more interest in making Shizuka's life harder than making moves on the goblin. Which was a constant source of entertainment for her.

Their happy little walk was soon cut short as they neared the plateau of the estate. The scent of blood and weapons was thick in the air, and upon drawing closer to the estate corpses lined the area. Atsuha quickly sensed Hinami's chi contorting at the sight.

"Sister..."

"It's alright Hinami, stay close!" Atsuha quickly soothe her sister apprehension.

Upon inspected the bodies, the armor damage and wounds suggested that it was native weapons that cause this. But, how could that be? Were the people of Shizuyama fight amongst each other, in the middle of an invasion? None of this made sense.

Before she could ponder further, a hostile made themselves known. They started by striking at Tomi with a kick, she really wished that girl would pay more attention to their surroundings. Then she leaped behind Hinami with surprising grace and held a naginata to her neck. Hinami looked at her attacker but didn't move, her temperament neutral. Atsuha's, on the other hand, was beginning to boil a bit.

"Traitors?" The woman had confirmed her suspicions. "Look, whatever happened here, know that we come in peace. However, that may change if you don't get a damn thing away from my sister. Kindly remove your weapon from her and we can talk like adults, or I can break it in half and shove it someplace I don't think you'd like."

"Skars-kun, Nee-san, there's no need for this. We came here to aid these people, not to fight them!" Hinami quickly interjected. "You must be Sorae-san. As Skars-kun stated, we are here on Takeshi-sama's request and wish to aid in your fight against the invaders."
